Ryan Taylor took to the twitter airwaves yesterday after the terrible tackle of Wigan’s McManaman left Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara writhing in agony on the pitch, with blood coming out of his knee.
The terrible tackle by McManahan on Haidara – ban the guy!
It’s a bad injury and maybe an ACL like the one Ryan picked up last August, and Ryan is still recovering form that one.
This is what Ryan tweeted:
“Nothing to do with the scoreline and the fact it was a red but as a footballer it’s the definition of a ‘s**thouse tackle’.” “Wow. Not even a yellow #baffled.”
Callum McManaman was even defended by his manager after the game, and we suppose Robero Martinez is worried in case his player misses the upcoming FA Cup semi-final game at Wembley – but surely that pales into insignificance after the damage he has done to a fellow player.
Newcastle could be only 3 points above safety if Wigan win their game in hand, and we’re not out of the woods yet, and we have to visit Manchester City in our next game after the International break.
Ryan Taylor is now back in training at Newcastle, after he suffered an ACL against Atromitos in August, and he could even play again this season – but we doubt it – and if Massadio does have an ACL injury, he could be out until Christmas.
Here’s the video of the tackle:

I cannot believe that you are suggesting that Halsey would see a tackle like that, a potentially career-threatening tackle, and not take action, simply because he is from Lancashire. To suggest he is corrupted by local influences to the extent of ignoring a tackle like that is completely ridiculous. 99.9% of people involved in football hate to see such dangerous play. The referee missed it. Simple as that. If he was a Wigan fan, he would not be allowed to referee Wigan games. Clattenberg is not allowed to referee Toon games for that reason. What is more, the fact he is from Lancashire (he’s not, by the way, he just lives in Bolton, he was born and raised in Hertfordshire) does not mean he would favour Wigan. It is like suggesting a referee born in Sunderland would favour the Toon because he is from the North East.
It was a shocking tackle that I am still angry at. But to clam that the ref is corrupt and biased is absolutely laughable

Comment #45One of the lads at work has just received a text that suggests Carver is being sacked from Newcastle after yesterdays half-time incident. Apparently the source of the text is prone to tall-stories though, so I wouldn’t put too much faith in it, however, I am curious, has anybody else heard of any punishment from either the club or FA yet?

Comment #57Catchy….Since the new signings have come in we are a totally different proposition. The results we have picked up and the improved performances back up this statement. And lets not forget Cabaye coming back from injury has made us a much better team. He was missing yesterday and we suffered because of it.
Before Haidaras’ injury we were the better team, the aftermath of that really did affect us. And the refereeing decisions cost us big time. A draw would’ve been an excellent result away to a team scrapping for their lives.

Yes I am aware of the scandal, and I agree that it is possible English refs have been involved. But I fail to see how allowing a Wigan player to injure our full back would help in fixing a result. I would imagine that players and referees would attempt to be more subtle than creating incidents like this. Its been easily the biggest talking point of the weekends games. Not a very good way to go around fixing a match without getting caught

Comment #61mcmanaman should be banned for the period the player is injured in my opinion that is the only way to stop premeditated and horror tackles, because the refs are terrible and the bans are too short. if we have foreign refs it would reduce man ures points total by about 15 points a season, maybe thats why it will never happen!

Comment #63Losing faith in people really.
Worst case as he intended to hurt him. Best case was he just didnt think about the consequence of how he won the ball.
I believe it’s a mix, went for the ball but did in such a way he knew he wouldn’t hurt himself at all at the expense of our player. Not the same as trying to hurt but very cowardly and poor judgement to think it wouldn’t cause injury.
I like to see a ten game ban for these tackles at least, these are horrific and whether intentions not not need to be removed from the game.
As for people sending death threats and wishing hatred and abuse on the lad…grow up. It’s disgusting and hopefully why serious threats will see you lot spoken to by the police. That sort of thing is much worse than the tackle that has outraged you.

Comment #65A couple of posters mentioned earlier the training at Newcastle -one suggesting what actually happened and the other accusing the original poster of making it up. The exact topic was who did what aspect of training.
In an interview John Carver is quoted as saying :-
“Every Monday he [Pardew] comes into work having compiled a defensive report on the opposition. That’s his project, working with our video analysts to provide players with the best information.
“This week, for example, he will talk about Manchester City’s angles of attack, their set-pieces, their movement, as well as focussing on individuals. The lads will be made aware of Dzeko’s strengths and weaknesses, the best way to nullify Silva, Milner’s incredible work-rate, everything.
“That takes care of Monday to Thursday. On Friday it’s my turn when we look at ways to get at opponents. Put simply, Alan concentrates on how not to lose and I then find ways to win.“
So there you have it from the horses mouth -so to speak.
Link to site where quotes obtained. I think original interview was in the Chronicle though :-

Comment #66I’ve been saying for years there should be a league table for refs.
Make a points system and by tge end of the season the refs with most bad decisions, errors etc should be punished.
No european games, Internationals. Fa or league cup and be demoted to lower league football. And if career destroying tackles go unpunished sack them, take away their licence.
Does seem a bit rash but would make them wake up. refs are to complacent knowing nothing is going to happen to them while they ruin our beautiful game.

Comment #67While I think football and rugby are two totally different sports, I believe that there are a few things aspects of rugby that football could learn from. In rugby, if a player is found guilty of an on-pitch misdemeanour, he is banned for a period of time, rather than for a set number of games. This makes total sense to me, as a 3 match ban can result in the said player only missing one or two weeks of football, which in McManamans’ case would be outrageous, considering the severity of his tackle and the resulting injury. I think a 6 month ban for him would be more appropriate, meaning he would miss the rest of this season and the opening 4 or 5 games of next season. Which is still probably getting off lightly! But at least this sends out a message that this kind of tackle is totally unacceptable and will not be tolerated and an offending player will get the bloody book thrown at them.

this just goes to show why look so poor every week 🙁
every week our team is being told to play a different way,,
i think more focus should be put on the players we have and trying to get the best out of them instead of trying to figure out how to stop other teams playing
it also shows pardew thinks he has a team of nobodies and that he does not trust them to play football, his goal is to stay in the league,,
if this was not his goal, he would concentrate on trying to win games

There was only 4 games on yesterday surely not beyond the wit of the FA to get a ref from the south or the midlands.

That’s a really damning indictment isn’t it. one day only for attack training – pitiful.
As I say what’s the point in having all these flair and technically good players if Pardew straitjackets them in defensive mode all the time.

Comment #75John Carver offer some insight into how Newcastle United run the dressing room on a weekly basis and talks about how he’s now convinced that Alan Pardew is the man for the job.
In a recent interview, John Carver told of how he and Alan Pardew split the workload at Newcastle, with Pardew concentrating mainly on the defensive side of things and Carver concentrating on attack. Carver said:
It’s interesting that we spend the largest portion of the week on defence and goes some way to explaining why we have the best defensive record in the Premier League. I don’t know if that’s the typical way a Premier League manager does things but I can only imagine that it’s totally different to the way Keegan ran things in the 90?s, where it seemed that Darren Peacock and Philippe Albert were only vaguely aware they were defenders.
Presumably, the way a manager sets this sort of thing up has a lot to do with the team he has at his disposal and clearly – judging by our third position – what Pardew does works well for our current team.
Carver admits that he couldn’t understand why Chris Hughton was sacked in favour of Alan Pardew:
“For a start, I was angry that Chris had been sacked just a few weeks after the 5-1 win over Sunderland.
“When I heard Alan was taking over, I thought it was a strange decision.
“Newcastle are a club that have traditionally had big-name managers and I couldn’t understand why the club thought he was the right man.“
But when offered the job at Newcastle, Carver was soon convinced:
“It took only five minutes to realise this fella’s got something.
“Alan’s plans for Newcastle really excited me and I needed no convincing to return to the club I love.
“I signed a four-month contract in case things didn’t work out, but both of us soon knew it would be a more permanent arrangement.“
So far so good for Pardew and Carver.
I think there are a lot of people waiting for this horrendous three game run we have so that they can say “I knew Newcastle didn’t have what it takes”, but in fairness few teams will pick up points at either Eastlands or Old Trafford and I reckon we’re good for a point against Chelsea anyway. I think if we can make life difficult for the League’s top 2 and not be complete pushovers we’ll have proved that we’re worthy of our position and – who knows – we might surprise a few people yet.

That stuff mr tuff posted has shocked me.
I appreciate you need to take some time to concentrate on how to stop the opposition, need to rpevent attacks and cut out their most dangerous moves, thats just good planning.
But to spend only 1 day working on attacking play is terrible.
We do struggle to create chances, last year only one team created less than us just we were very clinical and as a result got 5th.
I don’t midn winning some games by the skin of our teeth, that’s good character but all games shouldn’t be like that.
In reality I think we have as good a first 11 as spurs, they jsut have bale who puts them ahead of us, so we should be doing much more than we currently are.

Comment #80Cisse broke records last season with goals to games. No player had signed for a team in Jan and made that type of impact. Yesterday Andy cole and Dwight yorke were the sky pundits, they must’ve been laughing their heads off with the chances he missed ( not even on target from 6 yards) they would’ve taken at least 2 o them.
He has lost his composure in front of goal. He just wacks it with no direction. Wish he would just pick a spot and slot it in. He has got me frustated this season.
