The Newcastle Journal is reporting today that they have inside information that the Magpies will try to bring in three purples in the summer – immediate first team players – as Mike Ashley’s ambitions for Newcastle seem to be increasing.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – striker target this summer
One new acquisition has to be a striker, and Mike Ashley himself was in France on Sunday night with Chief Scout Graham Carr to watch St. Etienne’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is thought to be high up on Newcastle’s list this summer.
And with Fabricio Coloccini likely to be leaving in the summer, Newcastle will also want to bring in another top class central defender. Apparently behind the scenes it’s now almost certain that Fabricio will be allowed to leave the club this summer and return to Argentina.
And the third player Newcastle could go after is a wide man with speed, and it seems that Newcastle will also offload some players, with Gabby Obertan being one who may leave the club this summer and return to France.
And it wouldn’t surprise us if Newcastle let Cheick Tiote go in the summer either, because we have good cover in Vurnon Anita and also young Gael Bigirimana is coming through fast, since the 19 year-old joined us last summer from Coventry City.
Cheick has not had a good season so far, and the Journal is reporting that Newcastle will not be pursuing Ajax captain Siem de Jong , and it seems Newcastle could again return to France for their players.
It could be an exciting time for Newcastle fans in the summer, but we still have to ensure we are in the Premier League next season, and we are not safe yet – by any means.
And it’s good that Mike Ashley is getting more involved with things at the club, and maybe that’s because he was stunned when his counterpart at QPR – owner Tony Fenandes – wooed striker target Loic Remy to join the small London club in January – and QPR are still bottom of the league .
It would be good if we can have a really good finish to the season in the league and possibly make 10th place – but we’ll need to string a few wins together to achieve that.
And then there’s the Europa League. 😀
