Newcastle Target Three “Purples” This Summer

The Newcastle Journal is reporting today that they have inside information that the Magpies will try to bring in three purples in the summer – immediate first team players – as Mike Ashley’s ambitions for Newcastle seem to be increasing.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – striker target this summer

One new acquisition has to be a striker, and Mike Ashley himself was in France on Sunday night with Chief Scout Graham Carr to watch St. Etienne’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is thought to be high up on Newcastle’s list this summer.

And with Fabricio Coloccini likely to be leaving in the summer, Newcastle will also want to bring in another top class central defender.  Apparently behind the scenes it’s now almost certain that Fabricio will be allowed to leave the club this summer and return to Argentina.

And the third player Newcastle could go after is a wide man with speed, and it seems that Newcastle will also offload some players, with Gabby Obertan being one who may leave the club this summer and return to France.

And it wouldn’t surprise us if Newcastle let Cheick Tiote go in the summer either, because we have good cover in Vurnon Anita  and also young Gael Bigirimana is coming through fast, since the  19 year-old joined us last summer from Coventry City.

Cheick has not had a good season so far, and the Journal is reporting that Newcastle will not be pursuing Ajax captain Siem de Jong , and it seems Newcastle could again return to France for their players.

It could be an exciting time for Newcastle fans in the summer, but we still have to ensure we are in the Premier League next season, and we are not safe yet – by any means.

And it’s good that Mike Ashley is getting more involved with things at the club, and  maybe that’s because  he was stunned when his counterpart at QPR – owner Tony Fenandes – wooed striker target Loic Remy to join the small London club in January – and QPR are still bottom of the league .

It would be good if we can have a really good finish to the season in the league and possibly make 10th place – but we’ll need to string a few wins together to achieve that.

And then there’s the Europa League. 😀

Really surprised Ashley was in france on sunday. This is not like him is it?

On Steven Taylor, about time he was selected, just hope he does not come back injured, usually what happens to our England players.
Glad we are getting more purples so we can really compete.

Does St. Etienne have any good casinos? Nice tax write off for Ashley to fly over there on “business”…

I doubt Ashley would of flew to France “just” to watch someone playing a game of football. My guess is questions and negotiations have started.

    @6 – I hope you’re right but that’s also how rumours start?

My guess was that he was just being persuaded to part with the cash (or at least attempt to)

Pure speculation of course, it’s just my own personal opinion.

I think it’s very unlikely Ashley went all the way to France to see in a game.

Why let tiote go? Anyone seriously think Anita can replace him? We wouldn’t have a single ball winner in the team and get bullied by opposition.

Only 8 games of the left & already the transfer rumours have started , we after this player we are watching that player, I wont believe any stories until they have signed on the dotted line, other clubs are also watching these players, remember a certain Remy he was on his way to Toon officials were waiting for him, only he didn’t arrive, QPR offered more cash the rest of the story we all know

Exaclty…Even ashely though the remy deal was done and it never happened. It why I always stress everything I report on here is just speculation even when there’s a bit of insider knowledge its never a certainty.

Man utd don’t have any ball winners in midfield and they seem to do pretty well. There are many ways to play the game and having a tough tacking centre mid (in our case who loses the ball as much as he wins it and gives away countless fouls) isn’t the the most effective way to play anymore.

Not many top teams have that genuine, hard tackling, brute in midfield anymore.

We probably wont need to sell 2 ‘purples’
Simmo, gosling, obertan, colo atleast 4 leaving
Aub wud come in to replace Ba.
I think we wud go for lens to replace obertan.
And colos replacement will likely not be a purple. Mbiwa is colos replacement imo. I think we will Bring in a younger guy who can learn from steve+yanga and can come in incase of injury

I think Tiote is quality at what he does. He has been out of sorts this season though compared to his usual standards. Decision making has to be questioned. If he can get that sorted out he will be ok.

Maybe he believed in all his own hype last season. Took his foot of the gas and has found a false sence of confidence in his ability.

He is one of the best in the premier though at tackling and breaking up play. Surely you can’t just lose that

Whats with this get rid of Tiote brigade they say we have a ready made replacement in Anit! Get serious big strong players just walk through him, no body bosses Tiote. On Sunday when Hadiara was stretched off it was Tiote who held the midfield together till we regrouped

Tiote is still good at breaking up play. The problem is he cant pass, he knows he cant do the long passes and normally gives it to cabaye for him to do. When cabayes injured tiote looks completly lost, a few times against wigan he tried passing it to perch/jonas and they kept givIng him the ball back forcing him to try passing which went wrong. Atleast thats how i saw it. It seems as tho he has confidence in shooting (god knows why) and tackling (everyone knows why :P) but passing he has non.
Cabaye is a vital player he links defense with attack, he (+Staylor) is/are captain on the pitch, even without the armband they look the captains to me. I think HBA is our best player (natural gamewinner) but cabaye is our most vital, aslong as we dont sell cabaye to raise money for theses 2purples we will be ok imo.

t00ntime – maybe not sell 2 purples, but like I said, 2 will probably leave. Colo almost certainly one of them, not sure if Simmo is counted as the other but possibly Tiote will go too. Tiote has been pretty poor this season compared to last, but I’d rather we kept him. On the other hand, if we get a big bid in for him, then I wouldn’t cry if he left as long as we reinvested the money into the squad.

Reports this morning say PSG are after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer aswel as Arsenal & Chelsea. Would be great if we could get him but I cant see it happening.
I think we should go for CSKA Moscow’s Seydou Doumbia. Mite cost a bit more but he will be worth it.

t00ntime @ 14 add Tiote and Amalfitano to those four and we could really rake in enough money to get Aubemayang, Martens and Douglas.
Think those three, together with our current squad, could really go places next season especially with a permanently fully fit Ben Arfa, Saylor and Cabaye plus a return to good health for Haidara and Raylor.

I dont like tiote, I think he is a negative in our play.

He gives away a lot of fouls, gets a lot of cards, suffers from a few injuries this past 18 months, loses possession in our half way too often, holds the ball too long as slows our attack giving the opposition time to adjust and set themselves…not a good player I don’t think.

How many other teams have players like him? not many around the top of european and english leagues….he can only do one job and footballers now need to be capable of doing more than that.

I’d rather have anita in there, he might not tackle as well but he keeps the ball better and can pay at a higher tempo which is what we need to make sure we can attack and break teams down.

He might be bit lightweight but rather give him a run as he was settling well prior to cabaye’s reutrn.

@toondarnscarf if colo+simmo are the only ‘purples’ leaving and gosling+obertan the only squad players leaving and we brought in a ST, winger, CB i think that wud be a good/great summer. Cant see MA splashing too much cash, we spent alot (for our standards) in january without much return (most of bas cash went to agents)
I hope we dont have to sell a purple.

Three purples, a couple of good youngsters and we would be all set for a top four assault! Our first team pool would be amazing if we can keep are players also.

    What do we reckon then?

    A centre back.
    Speedy winger.

Why are a few people wanting Tiote sold in the summer. He’s done well for us and he maybe having a below par season but that no reason to sell him. On his day he is a tank, nobody can get past him. If he does keep up his belove average preformances just bench him for Anita and use him as a sub until he improves, which im sure he will.

I think Tiote is fantastic when playing alongside Cabaye – when Cabaye’s not there (ala Wigan), all the play ends up going through him and he’s just not up to it.

At least he always actually wants the ball and wants to make things happen, which is far more than you can say for some of the others.

@wyn forgot about amalfitiano, i guess AP has too. He can leave too if a decent offer comes in. Tbh i dont want rid of tiote, i still think he has stuff to offer for us. I dont understand how people see him as a liabilitly because he makes silly fouls when cabaye+colo do exactly the same. (colo gave away a free kick which put us 1-0 down vs spurs) the biggest mistake tiote made was the penalty, but it happens players make mistakes.
I agree with TDS tiote+cabaye is fine, tiote+anyone else, and tiote seems a different player. If tiote leaves we will need to replace him as (atleast imo) anita isnt strong enough to be a CDM in the bpl.
Also i’m not a fan of douglas he seems to stuck up his own ar5e and when he does something wrong its always someone elses fault. Personally i dont think he wud start ahead of mbiwa/Staylor anyway :S

t00ntime – I agree with you completely. We definitely need a top CB if Colo leaves. I’m not comfortable with Willo as one of the top 3, we need someone better.

A striker, a CB to replace Colo and a better version of Obertan would be great. Simmo and Gosling are surplus to requirements, so really we’d be upgrading one and adding a striker. Would be excellent!

I really hope none of the other “purples” leave though…

Im sure ben arfa is away in the summer to psg, just the way he’s been out for so long with a ‘hamstring strain’. To me NUFc are just keeping him fit to make sure he can still be bought by PSG, although I imagine it’s a big fee and possibly Menez involved or Sakho? And he supports PSG which is a insentive to leave. Lvoe him to stay though!

I agree he does show for the ball and always tries to make something happen, commend the guys desire I just don’t think that type of player is needed as much now.

No problem is he stays though, just that if we need to sell to buy (no shame in that, spurs do it well), then he is the one I would like to see go. I really can’t seea big club coming in for him though (just my opinion) so we won’t get a lot of money so probaby better hanging onto him if that’s the case.

I just think he has moved away from what made him a solid player for us, he is conceding too many daft fouls, not releasing the ball quickly, turning into trouble, etc…..although he has pinged some very good long passes (ba’s volleyed goal vs reading springs to mind).

And on the term purple….its a high value casino chip.

tiote is a hard situation for myself as last season he was worth 20mil + to me as he was outstanding.
this season though with the players we had coming in and players that have improved it makes him look a lot more avg.
his silly fouls and cards are getting worse not better and when it comes to selections now ! for them reasons alone i tend to think anita or perch is better suited in the team.
i honestly think its the prem that he’s not suited too as theres nothing wrong with his tackles a lot of the time its just that everyone dives in the prem as they know they will get freekicks.
my opinion is sell him as my own nerves are a lot better when perch/anita are playing (through hardly any fault of tiote’s) and let tiote move abroad and become a star in a league thats not so fragile.
