The Newcastle Journal is reporting today that they have inside information that the Magpies will try to bring in three purples in the summer – immediate first team players – as Mike Ashley’s ambitions for Newcastle seem to be increasing.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – striker target this summer
One new acquisition has to be a striker, and Mike Ashley himself was in France on Sunday night with Chief Scout Graham Carr to watch St. Etienne’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is thought to be high up on Newcastle’s list this summer.
And with Fabricio Coloccini likely to be leaving in the summer, Newcastle will also want to bring in another top class central defender. Apparently behind the scenes it’s now almost certain that Fabricio will be allowed to leave the club this summer and return to Argentina.
And the third player Newcastle could go after is a wide man with speed, and it seems that Newcastle will also offload some players, with Gabby Obertan being one who may leave the club this summer and return to France.
And it wouldn’t surprise us if Newcastle let Cheick Tiote go in the summer either, because we have good cover in Vurnon Anita and also young Gael Bigirimana is coming through fast, since the 19 year-old joined us last summer from Coventry City.
Cheick has not had a good season so far, and the Journal is reporting that Newcastle will not be pursuing Ajax captain Siem de Jong , and it seems Newcastle could again return to France for their players.
It could be an exciting time for Newcastle fans in the summer, but we still have to ensure we are in the Premier League next season, and we are not safe yet – by any means.
And it’s good that Mike Ashley is getting more involved with things at the club, and maybe that’s because he was stunned when his counterpart at QPR – owner Tony Fenandes – wooed striker target Loic Remy to join the small London club in January – and QPR are still bottom of the league .
It would be good if we can have a really good finish to the season in the league and possibly make 10th place – but we’ll need to string a few wins together to achieve that.
And then there’s the Europa League. 😀

Comment #81Well done Taylor for getting a call up, I can’t say he doesn’t deserve it because IMO he’s one of the best English CBs going

Comment #82taylor’s call up is getting a lot of stick on the bbc site…..sure most of these people don’t watch him or just don’t like him as he plays for us.
I don’t see him being any weaker as a defender than other lads in the squad.

Comment #83We all hope Ashley, was sounding out a new manager while in France. And get shot of Pardew, and get someone who knows how to win things, rather than just surviving like old Pardew, does until he gets found out and is always sacked.

It is kind of odd with the problems we have had this season with injuries. You would of thought he would of got a chance somewhere around the first team. He seems well down the pecking order.
Transfer,
We have Ben Arfa but his injuries are frustrating to say the least. His broken leg out of the equation. We seen how good he can be if he can work on his consistency and stay injury free. He could be that player for us.
If we lose Cabaye though i worry for our team. I think by far he is our most important player. He makes us tick. When he is missing we are lost

Comment #85Pleased as punch that saylor has been drafted into the England squad. Well deserved, wonder if he will carry on with his tactics when up for corners. Congratulations to Steve. I might just watch the team now, had no interest before now. Only one team for me and that is the toon.

Comment #89Not all teams have a Tiote but the ones that don’t would love one and the ones that do under value them
Anita is not close to being the same player or offering the same to the team and Perch is a very poor mans Tiote (on Tiotes worst day he’s on par with Perch imo) I’d sooner lose eiher Anita or Perch than Tiote and I don’t rate Tiote all that highly

Comment #90I’d much rather have Gameiro than Aubameyang. I personally think he’s pretty overrated and has a poor, poor attitude. Sure Gameiro can’t be happy at PSG, and must be interested in a move to the premier league? For those of you who don’t know much about him, I’d say Gameiro is like a French and more naturally gifted version of Shane Long, with a better finish too. Great player.

Comment #91@robin I see you are at it again, pardew ain’t going anywhere, you seem to be all alone on a very thin branch with your AP hate messages. Suggest you get a life. You give no reason or explanation as to why you have so much hatred in AP. you just come out with stupid comments that makes you sound like a child..

Agree with the first sentence but not the second.
Perch is an excellent tackler and much calmer on the ball than Tiote so plays simpler passes having won the ball.
Anita never puts the boot in but is better on the ball than Tiote or Perch.

Comment #94Jonny @ 10 says – Why let tiote go? Anyone seriously think Anita can replace him? We wouldn’t have a single ball winner in the team and get bullied by opposition.
Ball wiiners – like Tiote – who have limited technical/passing/scoring ability are disappearing from the first team of the top clubs.
ManU, City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal don’t have limited ability ball winners like Tiote – not to mention teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Players like Viera, Keane, Robson and latterly Makele appear to be a dying breed and Tiote isn’t anywhere near their class. I’m not saying Tiote isn’t a good squad member but no way is our team – or any team – dependent on an out and out ball winner who can do little slse. The modern game is all about the team closing the oppo down and playing a pressing game and then once possession is won the top teams have midfield players who can run with and pass the ball well. Tiote is weak in both those areas.
If Tiote goes I’d be very surprised if a top 4/5 team bought him and I doubt his value is more than £8/£10M on current form. It will be interesting to see what happens in the summer with Tiote – I suspect one way or the other Pardew has already made up his mind on whether he wants to keep him or otherwise. I doubt Pardew’s hand will be forced by a ‘silly bid’ being received so if Tiote goes it will almost certainly be because Pards thinks he can use the money to stengthen the squad.

Comment #95happy for the lad Taylor; every decent player (those not just in it for the money) want to represent their country – hope he gets some time on the pitch.
Personnally, I couldn’t care less about England.
Yes it’s my home country, and yes I’ve lived here all my life, but the national football team just bores me!
There, I’ve said it – happy to take the abuse…..

Think thats spot on there. We showed last year we got the same amount of points with or without him.
You need more than one string to your bow in football these days, can’t just have the one skill, need several due to the quality you are up against at high level football.
I think the hype around tiote a year or two ago linking him with chelsea and 20mil bids was because they thought he could become that solid DM who can also pass the ball around too.
In reality that hasn’t come off and he has stayed around the same level, gone backwards if anything, so I cant see a big club going for him.
Typical holding players are now busquets, mascherano, khedira, etc…plenty examples in the german league too.

I’d rather see Newcastle win something over England I think…seen England win other world cups in cricket and rugby and the enjoyment for that doesn’t even come close to something like the 4-4 comeback game against arsenal.
I’d love England to do well but with football it’s like a part time thing anyway, club football is the pinacle and international football is a sideshow where top teams very rarely play each other.
At least cricket and rugby you have internationals all year round and its put above club level so you see the best vs the best.

I don’t dispute ben arfa’s technical ability, he is up there with the likes of zidane for style…as for end product he is very poor…few goals or assists and thats not just at us, its throughout his career in france too.
He was unlucky with the leg break, but then he hurt his ankle, now hamstring…..he seems to keep picking up injuries…whether that is our medical staffs fault or not I don’t know…but PSG wouldn’t pay the money we would ask when they could spend that on a better player.

Not sure why he was there but must have been some meeting with club officials….can’t see him going just to watch the lad or a game.
Whether it was a deal to buy a player or just to arrange a link between the clubs I have no idea. But I guess it will have been business related.

Comment #106Pushy/Ian/Jekyll/Hyde or whoever else you may be:
I think you’d be best served actually reading my comments before you try calling them out. Instead of laying into Sage and trying to drive him off the blog I was defending him, and trying to play devil’s advocate with Online Guy, yet another poster who I was encouraging to stay on the blog instead of leaving.
Seems like all these multiple personas you have going on makes it difficult to sift through the comments and keep facts as part of the agenda, not surprising as you are continuously propagating a pathetic lie on an almost daily basis. Sad really.
I’m also not the only one who has sussed you out, many others have done so from nigh on the very beginning, such as JfA, Mister Tuff, and believe it or not Ibiza had his suspicions so how about you grow up and stop patting yourself on the back with your ridiculous superiority/ego complex you’ve got going on.
On topic:
It doesn’t surprise me that MA is targeting 3 potential “purples” as our first XI isn’t as strong as I think it needs to be. We are without a 20 goal a season striker as Cisse seems only concerned in scoring great goals and not many goals, we do not have a truly recognised winger on either side, Tiote seems less and less able to be the CDM we need him to be and I am still not convinced about Santon’s ability to be a top 6 LB.
We corrected a lot of the problems that existed in January, but we have a long way to go if we are to get back where we feel we belong.
Also, great news about Saylor, it’s a damning indictment on Hodgson though that Ferdinand, Dawson, Terry and Cahill all had to be unavailable for him to get the nod. How Smalling is on the team leaves me scratching my noodle, but he does sit on Manure’s bench, which apparently is all the credentials you need to be an England player…
Anyway, well done Stevie lad.

I think what we have managed to achieve is a good squad at the moment. What we need is the last few pieces of quality as you say.
Teose 3/4 players who can come in and push for a first team or start right away will take us on and we can be a very good team again.

in world football? or for our club?
hazard, mata, messi, ronaldo, iniesta, pedro, suarez, cazorla, fabregas….i could do on all day. These players produce consistently and get a lot more goals and assists and work just as hard for the teaam.
I don’t doubt the guy has serious ability with the ball at his feet, he goes past players as well as any of those i mentioned and better than most of them.
My point is that what is the point in doing all of the fancy stuff if he doesn’t get the goals or assists to match.
If he genuinely was as good as those and a world beater he wouldn’t be at newcastle now. A club would have bought him, madrid, barca, man utd, chelsea, man city, juventus, inter……one of those would have bought him if he was that good.

the only thing different with those players and HBA is there managers,, nearly all thos you mention + countless others all play for managers who play football higher up the pitch than we do,,
i also have to ask at what cost to HBA’s is it that he gets to practice his attacking side his game, when our main focus is deffence,,
when i watch say hazzard for chel, he has options left and right, HBA has to pick the perfect pass or score wonder goals,,
i think we all have to remember we got a great player, that just needed a slight attitude adjustment, not skill,, i doubt there is anything pardew can teach HBA that would make him a better player than he was, i think its the other way,, he should be given a free roll and given the ball as much as poss,
OC this is when he is fit,

Comment #119Toon prodicgy, I dont think Amalfitano was a particularly good buy and I dont think he wil do much for us. At times we exaggerate the success of our purchased. Obertan is poor, despite what all the do-gooders would shout. Even Santon is a question mark and I think most of us would say goodbye to Tiote in the summer.

Comment #120Completely right about HBS Transfer Sage. I would be quite concerned about Cabaye in the summer though. He is ready made for Man u as a defensive midfielder who can pass the ball. And dont think he wouldnt leave, and I think 25mill would see him gone.
