Pardew – This Lad Does Great Things We Take For Granted

It’s strange how things unfold sometimes, but before Sunday’s game we thought that Massadio Haidara would give Davide Santon a run for his money for the left-back spot, but now unfortunately our French 20 year-old is crocked, and he may not play again this season.

It’s a cruel world sometimes, and we’ll need to keep Massadio’s spirits up as he recovers form his injury, although just how bad it is we don’t know yet.

And as fate would have it, Davide Santon had a very good game on Sunday, and he scored a great goal for the club – his first – and to us he looks like a decent right winger, which is where he started his career before Jose Mourinho put him at left back for Inter-Milan four years ago.

Alan Pardew was singing the lad’s praises today:

“I thought Davide was terrific.” “He did a lot of really great things which we take for granted.”“We did a lot of things well, and ended up with nothing.”

And Davide was our Man of the Match on Sunday, just edging out Steven Taylor, who has been in tremendous form recently.

Here are the results of the poll, which is still open if you want to cast your vote.

It’s good that Alan has given praise to Davide – because he deserves it, and this lad also seems so committed to Newcastle United.

Well he did seem generally ecstatic with the goal. You can tell he loves the club and the fans. He did look royally miffed at the same time no doubt due to what happened to haidara.

I think he looks a very good player who defends ok, but struggles with positioning in the box and also at getting back from attacking.

I know these are big issues but he can do them, just not consistently, I’m sure he will learn a heck of a lot from debuchy as he seems to have these skills down to a tee.

His crossing/shooting looked better at wigan when he was used higher up. When he doesn’t need to run 60/70 yards first his final ball is much better I think. Hopefully if haidara and debuchy return then he can be tried up field from the start and see what he can do.

Great goal, but yet again poor defensively which surely indicates trying him further forward even though his final ball with either foot is rarely productive, Chelsea game apart.

Why the hell has Whelan waded in to this and caused even more bad feeling – were that possible ? Instead of trying to diffuse the situation, his comments are just stupidly and ignorantly provocative.

To say Halsey had seen it when Halsey’s defense was he hadn’t just further fans the flames. What a repellent moron and oik.

I only previously liked Wigan for the way they played good attacking and entertaining football with very limited resources under Martinez.

In contrast to Pardew who despite now having the resources still has a team which creates very few chances during games as he has a very defensive ethos.

    Geordie Mark,

Aye they had every right to be infuriated. At the time though they wern’t to know he was blind sighted.

Was it just me or did it seem to take for ever for the medical team to get on the pitch. The poor bloke was in agony!

I thought the same and commented in the pub. No urgency when they finally wandered onto the pitch.

Is whelan rant a Anti-Ashley rant cos he’s got the upper hand in business

When will the FA move out of the dark ages and introduce a simple on field appeal system using a tv match official, suggest up to 5 appeals for mistakes to be reviewed. It works very well in so many other sports.

Taylor is what England need now John Teryr is gone. Somebody who will but himself on the line to block anything and stick his head in to clear the ball.

None of these soft defenders like cahill, caulker etc…they are fine with taylor/terry etc but together they are too weak and the balance isn’t right.

    Charlie,

Is Whelan and Ashleys falling out true? I’v heard and read things but you never know if its for real?

In my view it certaintly seems odd with Whelans comments. You cant help but think there is something thats went on behind the scenes with the two of them. More so Whelan as Ashley never says nout does he
