Davide Santon Injured In Italian U21 Camp

There is news that Davide Santon didn’t complete his training session yesterday with the Italian U21 squad, and the Daily Mail is reporting that he felt pain down his left leg.

That’s bad news, as our players are starting to fall like ninepins again to injury, and we already have Coloccini, Krul, Haidara and Debuchy out with injuries that were picked up fairly recently.

Davide Santon has some sort of thigh problem, and if that’s the case we expect him to return home to Newcastle, so he can get treatment on the problem immediately, with our next game being a week on Saturday at Manchester City.

Newcastle have Danny Simpson still available to play at right back, and of course both James Perch and Vurnon Anita can play at either full-back position, so we still have some cover.

We lost Colo at the beginning of the season, when he twice returned from Argentina squads with an injury, and we need to restrict injuries as much as we can during this two week International break.

The Italian U21 side are playing two friendlies against Russia in Cittadella on Friday, and then they play the Ukraine in Bassano del Grappa next Monday, in the lead up the European Under-21 Championships, which will take place in June.

So that’s even more reason for Davide to return to Newcastle – friendlies simply don’t matter these days – well not as far as clubs are concerned.

Haidara – Delighted he is feeling OK and has recieved all our messages of support. Lets leave the Wigan-bashing now… it only upsets even more… Now time to start thinking of best team to take O’Neill and his chumps, especially Danny Graham, back to the championship…

Can’t help but think that McManaman would do his career no harm if he came out and apologised stating that he never meant to hurt Haidara but sometimes these things happen in football. I would certainly have more respect for him. Right now he’s hiding behind his idiot manager and chairman.

@Super – You are right although he may have been told by the club to let it all die down… also Haidara may not be seriously injured and so they have said just leave it.

I’ve an awful feeling about this season everything possible seems to be going wrong with injuries and wrong decisions going against us. I just wish the season was over and we’re safe.

Got to get this lad further up the field for me. So much better going forward & looks so much more comfortable than when he has to defend constantley. He’s been court out a few times this year but is a real asset in attack!! I like Santon he loves the toon & always gives his best just needs a change of position for me! HWTL.

Sadly he isn’t a real asset in attack though. He’s just better going forward. His movement is predictable and his passing is sometimes erratic. That being said, he is young and will be an asset. Hopefully as a fullback not a winger.
