Some surprising news from reports coming out of Portugal, that potential Newcastle striker target Ricky van Wolfswinkel has agreed to join Norwich City for £8M.
Ricky van Wolfswinkel – will join Norwich in summer
Norwich manager Chris Hughton seems to have beaten other clubs to the 24 year-old striker, whose current club Sporting Lisbon are very short of ready cash.
Newcastle have been linked with van Wolfswinkel for a few years now, although it seems like 23 year-old St, Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is at the top of Newcastle’s list of striker targets in the summer.
£8M seems a decent deal for Norwich, so we don’t know if the former Newcastle manager has beaten his former club to van Wolfswinkel.
Newcastle were interested in the striker while he was still at Utrecht, and Norwich paid twice the amount that Sporting Lisbon paid for the Dutch striker almost two years ago.
It seems that Norwich have paid some of the transfer fee already, which allows Sporting Lisbon to pay the wages of their players and coaches, which are currently eight weeks overdue.
There were reports in January that Norwich had bid £8M for the player, but that bid was turned down, but that’s before Sporting Lisbon ran into more financial difficulties.
We assume Newcastle did not want the former Utrecht striker, and probably Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, whom owner MIke Ashley and Chief Scout Graham Carr watched on Sunday night, is our number one target for the summer.
What do you think?
And please sign this petition to get the FA to do their job, following their disappointing decision to do nothing on McManaman’s tackle on Haidara last Sunday – thanks.
