News in the Daily Mail today that the Newcastle scouting is picking up for the summer transfer market, and Chief Scout Graham Carr has checked on one of Lyon’s best young players.
Samuel Umtiti – 19 year-old Lyon defender
It seems that 19-year-old left-back Samuel Umtiti, the French U20 International, could be in Newcastle’s sights this summer.
Sanuel can play either in central defense or at left back, and the Cameroon born player has played at the French U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels.
He joined Lyon back in 2001 and finally made his debut in January of last year in a 3–0 win against Lyon Duchère when he played the whole game, and since then he has played 38 times with two goals for the French side.
Carr was at the game to watch the versatile defender represent France U20s’ in their 3-1 win over Denmark last Thursday in France.
It seems that Newcastle will be bringing in a a number of players in their late teens and early twenties in the summer – and it would seem that the 5’11” tall youngster could be a target.
Newcastle brought in 20 year-old Massadio Haidara from Nancy in January, and the lad looks like a top player in the making, and Newcastle will try to bring in players of around the same age and ability this summer.
