Newcastle Linked With Top Young Lyon Defender

News in the Daily Mail today that the Newcastle scouting is picking up for the summer transfer market, and Chief Scout Graham Carr has checked on one of Lyon’s best young players.

samuel umtiti

Samuel Umtiti – 19 year-old Lyon defender

It seems that 19-year-old left-back Samuel Umtiti, the French U20 International, could be in Newcastle’s sights this summer.

Sanuel can play either in central defense or at left back, and the Cameroon born player has played at the French U17, U18, U19 and U20 levels.

He joined Lyon back in 2001 and finally made his debut in January of last year in a 3–0 win against Lyon Duchère when he played the whole game, and since then he has played 38 times with two goals for the French side.

Carr was at the game to watch the versatile defender represent France U20s’ in their 3-1 win over Denmark last Thursday in France.

It seems that Newcastle will be bringing in a a number of players in their late teens and early twenties in the summer – and it would seem that the 5’11” tall youngster could be a target.

Newcastle brought in 20 year-old Massadio Haidara from Nancy in January, and the lad looks like a top player in the making, and Newcastle will try to bring in players of around the same age and ability this summer.

The Daily Mail seems to have the pulse of what is going on at the Toon these days.

Just like to clear something up!

Ricky van Wolfswinkel is widely reported here in Holland as having signed a four year contract for Norwich, Kudos for Norwich!

But, Arnhem Vitesse are reported as having had no approach from West Ham as far as regards a 14 / 15 Mil offer to sign Wilfred Boney from them !
There is then no substance in the stories in The Mirror, Sun and Daily Express who are apparantly stating this this morning in their papers ?

I trust the Dutch Press more than i trust the English Press !

With the speculation regarding Santon to AC this isn’t too surprising. Could be the “just incase scenario” by the Toon? Santon has already stated if they come calling he is off.

Unless we have plans to move Santon to the wing?

Regardless, Im all for bringing these quality young hungry players with a point to prove to NUFC.

    Win Win situation.

If Carr is there, we can be sure he is on his list.

Toon – prodigy – i thought about this and my solution is that every now and we should send Carr to scout someone terrible we have no intrest in signing and then when someone else gets them its no biggy. A tactical red herring 😉 haha

    Dmac,

    Hahaha! Very clever 🙂

He has got this nickname “Super Scout” now and the press are onto him. They have been for quite sometime actually. He really needs a ploy aye.

No good having a great scout if he’s pictured at every ground and being reported over in the UK haha.

The more of a name he gets, the more the press will be hunting him I guess. An inspector gadget suit would be the one 😉

Nufc leazes @5 – not bad but its ‘Chateauneuf’ thought I would just mark you down on that for the exam 🙂

Sorry to open old wounds but is Carl the same as Pushy Pardew? He has the same style and both are pretty good on their spelling but they also say when they are leaving the blog that they are ‘owt’ and not ‘out’. 😐

Santon story happens every international break.

Italian press asks him if he’d like to return to Italy … Santon diplomatically says yes sure I’d love to play in Milan at some point …

English press translate and spins a new story … its bollox.

by no means take this the wrong way as santon is a bloody great player and not that bad defensively as some would make out ! but i really do like hairdryer better and santon will want 1st team now esp since being linked with ac so if we can get more £ than realistically he’s worth imo 10mil then i would not be sad at taking it bearing in mind how much dummet has come along also and looks like getting a new contract.

The summer speculation has started. I hate this period when a lot of fans become delusional, link us to everyone in Europe and then get angry when the window opens and nowt happens.

When we do get someone, its generally someone off the radar.

We need to be looking at CF’s to play alongside Cisse.

A winger to cover Goufrran and Barfa.

“I had a dream” Three Purple players and a rerun at 4th – a cup final – a passing, penetrative, consistent team a danger away. “I had a dream” Campbell breaking through, a teen sensation, four options upfront, a maddening midfield and finally a rock at the back. My “I had a dream” had a Viera in the background showing that superstar still plays for the club even in retirement. Ultimately a summer where we bought Lescott, Siem De Jong, and outrageously Javier Harnandez. We also picked up Sissohko for free and had Ben Arfa free of injury for a season. “I have a dream”.

We need more scouts. Ones that look at Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Belgium etc and it wouldn’t hurt to look at the Championship once in a while. Also need new coaches, none of our youth players ever develop.

    @15:

A lot of people here, including me, are expecting him to be moving to one of the top clubs in Germany?

It is generally accepted at Vitesse that he will be leaving them come the end of the season. He is top scorer in Holland this year and is worth at least 10 Mil of any clubs money? He won,t move cheaply to any club and will demand a top salary where ever he goes.

I would prefer us to get Wijnaldum from PSV and Stefan de Vrij from Feyenoord Rotterdam. I am disappointed we let Norwich get van Wolfswinkel as the Canaries have got themselves a bargain there?

Hope West Ham don,t get Boney though !

Hello Guys, My first post 🙂

I think i know what Pardew’s might plan will be.
He will offload Jonas or keep his as a benchwarmer, meaning he will push santon to the left midfield. And bringin haidara in on the left back. Seems like a good plan because santon can attack better than he can defend. HTL!!
