It seems that all our players playing last night came through without any injuries, and are now travelling back to Newcastle to prepare for the tough game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Davide Santon scores first goal for Newcastle – now injured
Yohan Cabaye played for the first 70 minutes in the France vs Spain game last night and Moussa Sissoko came on after 82 minutes while Yanga-Mbiwa was an unused substitute, and it seems that all three are fit and healthy after the game, which Spain won 1-0.
Steven Taylor warmed the bench again last night in Montenegro, as England survived a bit of a Montenegro onslaught in the final 45 minutes and came away with a 1-1 draw.
And Shane Ferguson played for around 75 minutes for Northern Ireland in their 2-0 defeat at home to Israel, and Shane will have his loan spell at Birmingham with manager Lee Clark extended.
But last week Davide Santon sustained a thigh injury in training with the Italian U21 side, and it seems he will not make the game on Saturday, and will not travel with the squad.
Mathieu Debuchy had to come off in the Wigan game after only 12 minutes and he is also a doubt, and of course Massadio Haidara is also not available so that’s three of our full backs out for Saturday, including the starting full-backs at Wigan – if Debuchy cannot play.
James Perch, Vurnon Anita and Danny Simpson are available and the two full backs will probably be two from those three.
Maybe James Perch on the right and Anita on the left – and the Dutchman played a full season for Ajax at left back so he’s quite skilled in that position.
It’s going to be a tough game on Saturday and we don’t really expect anything out of the game, so if we get anything it will be a bonus.
But we then have the first leg at Benfica on the following Thursday in the Europa League, and two successive home games against Fulham and Sunderland, which we have to win.
