Newcastle Pick Up One More Injury Over International Break

It seems that all our players playing last night came through without any injuries, and are now travelling back to Newcastle to prepare for the tough game at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Davide Santon scores first goal for Newcastle – now injured

Yohan Cabaye played for the first 70 minutes in the France vs Spain game last night and Moussa Sissoko came on after 82 minutes while  Yanga-Mbiwa was an unused substitute, and it seems that all three are fit and healthy after the game,  which Spain won 1-0.

Steven Taylor warmed the bench again last night in Montenegro, as England survived a bit of a Montenegro onslaught in the final 45 minutes and came away with a 1-1 draw.

And Shane Ferguson played for around 75 minutes for Northern Ireland in their 2-0 defeat at home to Israel, and Shane will have his loan spell at Birmingham with manager Lee Clark extended.

But last week Davide Santon sustained a thigh injury in training with the Italian U21 side, and it seems he will not make the game on Saturday, and will not travel with the squad.

Mathieu Debuchy had to come off in the Wigan game after only 12 minutes and he is also a doubt, and of course Massadio Haidara is also not available so that’s three of our full backs out for Saturday, including the starting full-backs at Wigan – if Debuchy cannot play.

James Perch, Vurnon Anita and Danny Simpson are available and the two full backs will probably be two from those three.

Maybe James Perch on the right and Anita on the left – and the Dutchman played a full season for Ajax at left back so he’s quite skilled in that position.

It’s going to be a tough game on Saturday and we don’t really expect anything out of the game, so if we get anything it will be a bonus.

But  we  then  have the first leg at Benfica on the following Thursday in the Europa League, and two successive home games against Fulham and Sunderland, which we have to win.

Comments welcome.

    Markacus.

Perhaps building technology has developed something which allows the strengthening of the metro ceiling or summat. Maybe they’ve changed the planning laws. Who knows? Maybe they’re eventually going to build the Newcastle San Siro on the town moor after all these years.

Or perhaps we’re going to stick with a 52,000 capacity. They could rip out some the seating I suppose…

Anyone remember the standing idea recently? Maybe the tech involved allows them to simply cram more into the same space.

Can’t see them allowing standing again. Think prem rules mean all-seater. Suppose a new ground on the moor is a possibility, although freemen of the city wouldn’t be able to graze their cattle anymore!

SJP metro is under the Gallowgate end. I think the only bit of the ground eligible for expansion is the corner next to the John Hall stand, y’kna the one next to leazes tce? But only the corner because the metty line runs diagonal.

Also there is no way I would advocate a move from the cathedral on the hill. It’s right where it belongs: at the heart of the city.

SJP is pretty talismanic. The mackems might enjoy their out of town car boot sale venue but I’m not sure it would suit us at all.

Only allowing Quick Seats option online. 🙁

John Hall floated the idea of building a new stadium north of Gostorth just of the A1 close to the Falcons rugby ground his visionwas tho have everthing there Football, Rugby Basket ball even ice hockey, Sporting Club Newcastle is was to be called but too many objections from fans & council weren’t keen on the idea of taking business out of the city centre.

I for one love St. James’ exactly where it is slap bang in the middle of Newcastle and I would not change it for the world. Its great being able to have a few drinks in town before kick off and then making the short pilgrimage to the ground with all the other fans. One of life’s great moments 🙂

Changing the subject, it often gets mentioned about 3 top class players ( or purples if you prefer ) will be joining us in the summer, where does this belief come from, as far as I am aware Derek Llambias made it clear after the January French invasion that the summer will be used the strengthen the squad and there will not be anymore purples signed, unless its to replace an outgoing purple, so where does this 3 purples in the summer belief come from.

Like every other Toon supporter I feared the worst for Haidara, but with the slow release of any news about the extent of the damage I began to suspect that the Toon were well aware that it wasn’t as serious as first thought but kept quiet until FA made their ridiculous decision, then to keep the sympathy going, began to release the news a little at a time now , although I cant see it there is rumour & only rumour that he may ready for Man City.why risk him if Santon is OK

Spoof….I think it comes from two things.

    1) The hope that the board have learned you cannot stand still as you only go backwards.
    2) The extra money available to PL clubs next season.
    3) Pretty sure I’ve read something from the club to say they were working on it…but that may have been a dream.

So it’s really just wishful thinking rather than something which has been said by a club member, that’s a shame as I was hoping that I had missed something.
I think we should guard against complacency mind, if we keep telling ourselves that we will be signing an extra 3 we might start to believe it, and it will all end in tears.

I hope your right Ibiza, as we can never get too strong can we, but if you are right then that mean that Llambias has given us wrong information and has been lying to us, and if these 3 did sign it would make him look rather stupid, Derek Llambias look stupid, never ?
Then again he may have said no purples to stop us from getting carried away and to try and make other clubs believe that we aint got much to spend, it may be a ploy.
See, look what you have done Ibiza, you’ve built my hopes up lol

As you said earlier, we will have to wait and see.
To confuse matters, it was just last week that Ashley was with Carr watching St Ettienne, presumably the lad being watch was Aubemeyang, he is hardly a squad player, so perhaps I have got it wrong.
One thing for sure though, I’m not going to expect a rush of quality players as some may be doing, if we get them I would take it as being a bonus

Im a student in newcastle and a lifelong fan, and the view of the city, with st james’ towering over like a fortress, when you come over the river still takes my breath away. Every team who comes to visit has to look at it and every travelling fan be it by coach, train or car. It must be intimidating for players and fans, which can only be a benefit to us. Thats not somthing we should throw away by relocating.

52,000 is huge, 4th biggest in England including wembley. We should invest the money into wages or new fitness and medical equipment/staff. Where it is needed.

Funny that Robin only seems to appear in school lunch breaks!!!
I woud find it hard to believe that Haidara is fit to play on Saturday – both physically & mentally. Assuming he is out who is going to be first to post a team? I think it will be the ‘normal’ starting team except with Perch & Simpson at fullbacks.

Injury league has this to say:

D Santon Hip/Thigh Injury no date
M Haidara Knee Injury 2 weeks
M Debuchy Hamstring Injury 3 days
H Ben Arfa Hamstring Injury no date
F Coloccini Back Injury 2 weeks
    T Krul Ankle/Foot Injury 2 weeks
    H Vu?ki? ACL Knee Injury 7 weeks
R Taylor ACL Knee Injury 3 weeks

Pretty sure I’ve read Taylor should be back sooner and also Haidara so not sure how reliable this info is tbh.

    Alreet Ibiza,

I’v had a stairlift fitted, I was keep getting stuck half way up the stairs 😉

Isn’t Colo back this week? Granted, may not be match fit.. Although he did look in good shape dancing around at the San Lorenzo game. He looked as fit as a lop to me? Haha.

Never heard anything on Debuchy, maybe he is fine? We would of heard if he was out for an extended period you think?

Haidara, whats the news? Match fit? Is he training yet? I’ only heard good things about Haidara, apparantly he is ready to play

Is Colo back this week? Nice of him to pop in 😉 Maybe Colo at CB and MBiwa in a FB position (think he’s played there before)?

I read Debuchy got sent back by France or we didn’t let him go…maybe just to ensure he’s okay for City.

Nothing concrete on Haidara, maybe by the Benefica game.

Aren’t I a useful guy? Full of knowledge me 🙂

Would a news stadium that we actually owned outright be such a bad thing. SJP has not exactly been a happy hunting ground unless you followed NUFC in the 50’s.
