City Don’t Play As A Team – But Have Fantastic Players

5:37 pm, Friday, March 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 58 Comments

The current Newcastle captain in Colo’s absence – Yohan Cabaye – both courageously and sensibly admitted that he had struggled with depression last summer after the European Championships, and it was also revealed yesterday that Alan Pardew had helped Yohan get through his difficult times.

Yohan Cabaye – could be Newcastle’s best player

he stand-in Newcastle captain both courageously and sensibly admitted that he had struggled with depression last summer after the European Championships, and it was also revealed yesterday that Alan Pardew had helped Yohan get through his stressful times.

We know some Newcastle fans don’t rate Alan Pardew, but here’s another case where his man management has been of the highest caliber – and our own hope is that he becomes more successful than he’s ever been at Newcastle in the next few seasons current Newcastle had to say about Manchester City in The Sun:

“City have fantastic players but, unfortunately for them, they don’t think and play as a team – it’s not the same as United.” “So maybe that’s the difference.” “City are still a fantastic team, but they are a team of individuals.”

“The 15 points is a big difference with United is going to be more difficult than last season, when they had eight points to make up. I think it’s impossible because if United win three games, they win the title.”

We have a number of players out tomorrow – but Alan Pardew can still play a strong team against the reigning Premier League Champions, and with Yohan in the side, and Newcastle wanting to generate some momentum before our two games with Benfica – then anything is possible.

It’s all mind games to annoy City. They know that they’ve underperformed and Cabaye is pointing this out to try and give us more of a chance.

  • 17 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:04 PM

That’s gave us all something to smile about hasn’t it!

Anyone else that ya nick bolasie would be a good signing?

He’s got skill, he’s strong, tall, quick, good crossing

  • 18 Mark the Mag // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:06 PM

Glad to see Clarkie and Watson doing well at Birmingham, class from Fergie, has he now got a future at NUFC after these performances ?

  • 19 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:09 PM

I think we should see how he does in pre season, if he can still improve by playing in the championship, then send him on loan until January then am certain he’ll definitly be ready for the premier

  • 20 BIGUPNUFC // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:09 PM

@mark, hope so, he is showing confidence he did not have in the pl

  • 21 Sack Llambias // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:19 PM

Part exchange Ferguson for Redmond. Only kidding , good to see Ferguson’s cultured left foot being put to good use. Not before time and illustrating the benefit of our under 21’s getting experience at a higher level. Impressed with lee Clark’s side and his attacking formation they have really outclassed a PL prospect side. And no I am not making a case for Pardew to be replaced. But it’s nice to see our own do well.

  • 22 nufc786 // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:20 PM

    what about our sammi ameobi

  • 23 Mark the Mag // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:22 PM

He has got a target man to aim for in Zigic and nice balance with Redmond on the other side. He has just went off for Ambrose, thats them two, Clark, Watson, McDermott, Ramage any more ex mags on show ? Is Carr still there lol

  • 24 BIGUPNUFC // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:25 PM

has sammy recovered from his injury at boro?

  • 25 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:29 PM

Yeah, I think Ameobi needs more game time in the championship, to gain the confidence that he much needs.

Bolasie has already played in the championship for a couple of seasons now, I think he would be a good buy, and he was born in France!! 😉

  • 26 Mark the Mag // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:33 PM

Seen Bolasie a few times, thought he was Zaha at first very skillful.

  • 27 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:37 PM

He’s the same type of player as Saha imo

  • 28 nufc786 // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:39 PM

hmmm he is french…. :) i agree with you on ameobi

  • 29 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 7:43 PM

Haa if your French, your dench.
    And if your dench……..
    Well your dench.

Naa but seriously if your French you’ve got a good chance of being signed for us!

  • 30 dembademba // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:03 PM

shane just got an assist and scored a free kick against palace! some player he’s gna be :)

  • 31 deyansabourian // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:03 PM

Guti may start though but I would prefer if him and Obertan came on as subs around the 70th…Obertans been getting a lot of slack and deservedly so but his speed off the bench can still change games so I still like him as an impact sub for one of the wingers.

  • 32 Magpies-till-d3ath // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:09 PM

hmmmm, I’m sorry Ed, “could be our best player”? IS our best player!! Shame he likes Utd though!

  • 33 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:11 PM

Remember my chant above lads for when yohan finally publicly admits that he like man utd more than us 😉

  • 34 martoon // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:14 PM

Funnily enough Lee Clark is not that popular with the Birmingham fans but I suppose they did have a slow start in the first half of the season.
I noticed some ex mags on his coaching staff Terry Mac & Steve Watson.

  • 35 tooninspain // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:17 PM

Leazes…..something tells me your chant has already been forgotten.

  • 36 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:18 PM

  • 38 do the hatem shake // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:24 PM
this is the link to his free kick unbelievable curve

  • 39 Ben_BKK // Mar 29, 2013 at 8:40 PM

Cheers for that Hatem shake, you’re right about the curve, it gets right inside the post. Imagine having him and Cabaye over our free kicks. He’s also meant to be decent on corners, which is something that Cabaye isn’t good at, somehow…

  • 40 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 9:05 PM

If fergie can build up a bit of muscle, and practise more on his right foot, then i think he will be a first team regular by the age of 23-24.

Just for the fact that he’s a bit too slender and a bit predictable and people don’t expect him to cut in on his right :)

I think marveaux has the best corner out of our fit players at the minute, by far.

  • 41 Troy Stavers // Mar 29, 2013 at 9:35 PM

Well, it looks like Ashley is starting to claw back his loan which he stated he wouldn’t.

That’s going to be £140m over the next 5 yrs or so which could be invested in the team. Shame really that he’s reneging on his words again.

  • 42 dmac // Mar 29, 2013 at 9:43 PM

What makes you say that Troy? From all accounts i have read it seems like he is preparing to spend heavily again to invest in the squad.

  • 43 Ben_BKK // Mar 29, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Is Troy up to his usual wind up tricks?

  • 44 beddersmag // Mar 29, 2013 at 9:59 PM

Aye troy where you getting that from? Anyway we all know hel get that cash back at some stage. If he wants to take it back in increments when the club is in a position to pay, then so be it. Anything outstanding will be paid back as part of any deal when he eventually sells up. As long as we are not paying interest on the loan we are in good shape imo

  • 45 Troy Stavers // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:10 PM

Lads. I’m only suggesting that Ashley is now starting to claw back his loan, having repeatedly stating, ( Llambias stating rather) that he would not be.

He’s started with £10m last year, £11m this year so all I’m saying is, that £140m that it looks like he’s is now going back in his pocket could be used on players.

I’ve repeatedly praised Ashley for the way he’s sorted out the finances but this is another example of him saying one thing and doing another.

Why not stick to his word and use that £11m that he is drawing from the finances to pay for a player.

We are still average and have a thin squad and I would rather see him build the club instead of lining his bank account which is brimming to the tune of £1.9bn.

  • 46 Troy Stavers // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:13 PM

Do you realise how much profit we should make next season? He’s only spending the TV revenue which is going to be at least £20m extra for each club this year.

  • 47 tooninspain // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:16 PM

Come on Troy, stop winding people up. You know as well as I do that Ashley doesn’t have £1.9 billion in the bank. That’s his total worth including shares and equity.

  • 48 tooninspain // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:33 PM

Our wage bill is going to be a lot higher next year. None of the January signings are included in 2012 figures. At a rough estimate, that’s going to be around £7m for a 12 month period.

  • 49 tooninspain // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:34 PM

    *That’s £7m extra

  • 50 lesh // Mar 29, 2013 at 10:59 PM

So that was meant to be a chant was it? Must say, a thowt it was a perm and if it was meant to be a chant, it stands even less chance of being remembered than if it was a perm. Although in years to come, you will be remembered.

Troy, what are you going on about? He yee started writin this new fangled poetry anaal?

What’s gannin wen wi this site? It’s like St Nicks’s had a clear oot FA eastor.

  • 51 Mister Tuff // Mar 29, 2013 at 11:08 PM

It was suggested in an earlier post that Shane Ferguson was under 21 -he is not. He is 21.

  • 52 NUFC_LEAZES END // Mar 29, 2013 at 11:17 PM

How will i be remembered in years to come like and isn’t a ‘perm’ a hairstyle?

  • 53 Troy Stavers // Mar 30, 2013 at 8:10 AM

You’re right in that his £1.9bn is in assets and not sitting in his bank account however my point is he started off with that amount and promised to invest £20m per season but that was cut short as he lost half his wealth during the market crash.
He’s now recovered that but instead of investing anything, he’s actually taking £10m per season to pay back his loan, a loan which he has stated would not be clawed back.

Ashley has done a fantastic job with finances but I worry now he wants all his loan back over a period and it will be to the detriment of the team.

  • 54 tooninspain // Mar 30, 2013 at 8:22 AM

Troy…..worry not. Nufc is an asset to Mash just like any other assets he owns (businesses, brand names etc). I haven’t seen, as yet, any evidence of Mash taking any loan repayment. I couldn’t see anything in the 2011 accounts, but admit I haven’t looked closely at the 2012 set yet.

  • 55 Troy Stavers // Mar 30, 2013 at 11:24 AM

He’s just announced last week he’s taking £11m back as part of his loan repayment.

  • 56 tooninspain // Mar 30, 2013 at 11:33 AM

Which he is entitled to do. And no interest charges. Name me anyone who hasn’t reneged on something, or broken a promise, and I’ll show you someone who’s a liar, or suffering the onset of Alzheimers.
The key issue here is whether this affects our ability to buy new players. We all know, as fans, where we need to strengthen. I’m sure Pardew et al are thinking along the same lines. Ashley made that statement before the TV handouts were sustantially increased. Presumably in his projesctions, he couldn’t see the club being able to afford any repayments in the short-term. That situation has now changed.

  • 57 Troy Stavers // Mar 30, 2013 at 2:38 PM

Of course he is entitled to do so but that doesn’t mean its in the best interests of NUFC which is what I’m interested in.

  • 58 tooninspain // Mar 30, 2013 at 6:48 PM

Troy….you need to embrace the real world.
