Newcastle will be bringing in one new center-half this summer to replace captain Fabricio Coloccini, who is expected to return to Argentina to be with his family.
Mamadou Sakho in French colors – Newcastle continually linked with this player
And one player Newcastle have been linked with for some time now is French International and PSG center back Mamadou Sakho, but there are also a number of top clubs linked with the 6’2″ defender, who joined PSG back in 1996 when he was seven years old.
As many as five Premier League clubs are said to interested in the PSG defender, who is having a hard time of it getting a regular starting position in the PSG central defense, with captain Thiago Silva and Alex preferred by the PSG manage Carlo Ancelotti.
And assistant manager at PSG, Claude Makelele has said recently that he cannot see the 23 year-old leaving the club in the summer, and wants him to stop talking about leaving PSG, and that he must be patient.
But the defender wants to be in the French squad for next year’s World Cup in Brazil, and feels he must be a regular first team player to achieve that ambition.
This is what the Paris born player has said about his situation at his home town club:
“I’m third choice in the mind of the coach.” “I have to play at club level to get picked for France next season.” “To continue to make an impression I need to play.”
Sakho’s contract has only 15 months to run, and he could move as a free agent next year, but Newcastle are continually being mentioned in the French press as being one of the clubs where Mamadou could end up in the summer,
And Newcastle are in a strong position to attract the young defender – with five top Frenchmen signed in January, and Newcastle now have four French Internationals in their squad and ten Frenchmen in all on Tyneside.
It seems that PSG will try to keep Mamadou this summer, but it’s almost certain to be some bids for him, and PSG may decide to cash in on him, rather than lose him for nothing one year later, when he becomes a free agent.
Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the hint for the player, but Newcastle have a lot to offer new players, and especially French players, with the already large French contingent on Tyneside.
The 13 times capped French International has played for his home town PSG since he made his debut as a 17 year-old, and he so far has made 189 appearances with 7 goals.
He would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle United this summer.

Comment #1I just can’t see this one to be honest. Plus if he came here, who’s to say he’d start. Mbiwa is colossal, absolutely great player who will be playing at an elite club one day.
This guy is good but I rate Yanga higher.

Comment #4I think he has alot of potential but I wouldn’t want to pay over top for him.
…in my book he shouldn’t not be as expensive as Mbiwa but probably would be 🙁

I’m actually a season ticket holder at the Stadium of Light. I have a spare ticket for today’s game if you’d like to join?

Comment #9I’ve never know us to have such a strong defence as we have now. In the past we usally just spend big on one defender and just leave it at that.eg. Woodgate, Bassong, Colloccini. Pardew wants to improve in every position. Good times to be a toon fan. In Carr We Trust

I love Taylor and he is in great form at the moment but I dont think he’s as goood as Yanga-Mbiwa or Sakho and they are still only 23. Hope we still keep him as he would be great back up and if any of our full backs are out Mbiwa can fill in at RB and Sakho can play LB so that would allow Taylor some games aswell.

Comment #15Use the Norwich example and try and get a pre contract if he is interested and his club are willing to talk.
