Pardew – Some Players Back For Benfica But We Need Wins

Newcastle’s display and result today, a 4-0 hammering by Manchester City and a poor performance, puts us back into 15th place in the league table, and we are only 3 points above Wigan, who are in fourth bottom place – and they have a game in hand on Newcastle.

silva scoresd

Silva celebrates after scoring City’s second goal

And one thing is our goal difference is getting as bad as other sides around us in the league table – it’s now at -15 – and that was our third league defeat in the last four league games – and surely we have to prioritize the league now to ensure our safety?

The Newcastle manager believes we need at least two more wins from our last seven games – but we have to get above 40 points at least – with Aston Villa and Wigan 3rd and 4th bottom respectively with 30 points, and both clubs have a game in hand on Newcastle.

So if they win those games they will be level with Newcastle.

This is what Alan Pardew told BBC Sport after the game:.

“We need two victories at least, and maybe a third, to get ourselves a strong position.” “We are missing some big players at the moment, but we are hoping a few players will be back for Thursday’s Europa league game against Benfica.”

“City played with no pressure about them.” “There was a relaxation around their quality players, but we did not squeeze them enough.” “We were not tight enough or aggressive enough.”

Aston Villa are at home to Liverpool tomorrow and a win in that game will take them level on points with Newcastle.

We’re now in a precarious position after this defeat today – and the fact that other teams around us in the league have done well.

Well Pardew says we never pressed them….we never press teams.

So either it’s our plan not to press or he simply cannot get these lads to press.

Either way he needs to find a way to change it, Pardew is not the only one to blame for our poor season but as manager he takes the responsibility. Thats what manages get paid to do.

Fair or not he carries the blame for this team playing badly and should be getting the praise when we play well.

    “We were not tight enough”

Maybes if you put your f****** pen and paper down and actually start barking orders and motivating players from the touch line and telling them to close them down, then that wouldn’t have been the case today.

We need wins? Yes we do. We also need a manager with the imagination and the Bo11ocks to get the team playing football.

I get the joke your making there…pretty good haha.

But catchy does have a point, scrapping out 1-0 wins and not playing well until trailing will only get you so far.

Yes 5th was great but it isn’t a long term plan.

Worst aspect of today was the goal difference. We’d just got it back to level/better with teams around. Now the 3 home games (fulham, benfica and sunderland) are all must win and the crowd’s gotta get behind them. We have a good chance with about 8 players coming back.

please watch the last few games again if you can,,

goofy has done nothing for a few games now, he never tracks back, i feel he hides in games, he is never out wide yet he is no where near cisse

sissoko,, like him alot, but he is being asked to do to much, this is a team game, but its hard when he dont have options in front of him,, only cisse, and cisse spends to much time trcking wingers 🙁

To be honest thought guti did a pretty good job today and he does really play there a lot as Santon gets forward more than he does.Agree on simmo would have played anita there instead and perch in midfield.
Its the fact we sat back from the first minute and invited them onto us and didn`t close down it was only a matter of time before they scored. Was the same v them at home sat back and made them look better than they really are

It was FEAR, FEAR & More FEAR for many NUFC “Stars”. If you can bear to watch this again, see how few marked any one in a blue shirt, see how many kept themselves so a blue shirt was between the Magpie with the ball and themselves. Only half the NUFC team was in the game, and they had too much to do with the dormice hiding on the pitch. Sad…..

I hope to god we get rid of simpson, the amount of times they cut through him/he was out of position/he gave the ball away was disgusting. I’d much rather have Ryan Taylor or a up-and-coming RB (Haidara-like) as understudy to Mathieu.

yeah play the reserves cos are our players putting more emphasis on the Europa games to get seen and maybe a ‘better’ move to another club using us as a stepping stone.

Football ia a easy game –
pass and MOVE not Newcastle they pass the ball usually to the opposition and stand still.

Man city passed moved into space, wanted the ball, closed us down didn’t give us space.

Can’t see us winning another game if we take todays attitude into the next seven league games.

but i think the issue today was similar to start of season, injuires and poor form.

but the problem was not the result, its how easily we were beaten, carved apart whilst offering no threat ourselves

like what southamton have done,, they seem to have done there homework,

they have brought in a guy that plays football the right way,

he has them playing better football than before, which they played pretty good anyway,
he dont even speak english yet 🙁

REALITY CHECK PLEASE….pardew or tactics are not the culprit…players are….simpson..obertan..anita lightweight….a couple of others playing out of positions due to injury….. appalling performance by all the team…a team hunts in packs…we know we can do that…but we didnt today as well as having 3 weak positions against current epl champs…

    TS

Given Catchy’s recurring themes in his posts, my point was about pots and kettles.

I have never been satisfied with a 1-0 attitude as remember the boring Arsenal years (living in London at the time).
I dislike Manure intensely but SAF always goes for the second killer goal and they never give up – which is what we ought to use as our main tactic.

Today was being outclassed and our failure to strengthen in the summer looks more and more stupid as the January signings ain’t going to gel into a top performing CL level team in just a few starts – especially with some star players out. Mashley winged it. We need to play the rest of the EPL games like they were Cup Finals – not that we have a great track record there either…

15th looks like a successful season tonight.

pardew is instilling a fear factor into the players by training defensive football,
he might as well tell them they are not got enough to attack, better hold on and hope they dont score to many

erm..no offence to the team here but even with all our players back injury free i would still expect us to lose against city ^^

they are like manu and chelsea a class above us even on our good days so i’m not too upset about us losing !

we should have tried harder i agree as there was notthat much determination imo and they did not look upto the fight but this game and the liverpool game are our (i expect us to lose games) but if we dont look like we want anything in the other prem games i will be a hell of a lot more upset than i would be from todays result.

    Band B,
Yes who would have thought that the excellent business propelled idea of not buying a CB or RB last summer and ensuring we turned over a 1.5M profit would have seen us in a relegation battle.

@catchy did you see that chelsea massively changed there team?
if we had our full selection of players for defense would we have shipped 4 goals i dont think so
and for you to dismiss the ammount of money spent on teams against winning?
who won the prem last season and who have won the prem numerous times before after BUYING it??
    1 result means nothing!

missed the match today first time all season, somehow i think i put on a curse today, i didn’t expect a win or draw today but if no1 got injured i count that as a plus.

also in my opinion i got to go for Pardew out, we seriously need a new attacking manger for those who think Pardew should stay with the team really need to wake up he’s an defensive manager ( coach ) and will never get the toon up top not even in the top 10

im negative about only 1 aspect of our team, the guy who leads them,

i find it very strange how i can be classed as negative when im the guy screaming for us to play a more attack minded game, nearly all of our players are attack minded , yet we spend very little time attacking teams,

i am sure your well aware of putting attack minded players in defensive positions is a sure way to asking for trouble,

but please tell me how im negative,, id love to hear

I hope Marveux was not brought on because he is being rested to have a starring role against Benfica in a no 10 role can see why we maybe got Sissoko for so cheap as he needs to find consistency in his game

The standard of the premier league is so poor this season the games against Fulham and Sunderland will be dire too watch everyone from 10 down deserve to go down as everyone is dire

How come Pardew, plays both Gouffran and Cisse, as wingers? The loser takes Gouffran, off and brings Gosling on, instead of pushing Gouffran, in field with cisse and playing Sissoko, in his natural position behind the two strikers 4-4-2 he has them all over the place. Pardew, is a disgrace and he cannot blame a lack of investment, for his retarded tactics. Most of these players are internationals yet he is wasting them, due to his negative tactics.
