Newcastle’s display and result today, a 4-0 hammering by Manchester City and a poor performance, puts us back into 15th place in the league table, and we are only 3 points above Wigan, who are in fourth bottom place – and they have a game in hand on Newcastle.
Silva celebrates after scoring City’s second goal
And one thing is our goal difference is getting as bad as other sides around us in the league table – it’s now at -15 – and that was our third league defeat in the last four league games – and surely we have to prioritize the league now to ensure our safety?
The Newcastle manager believes we need at least two more wins from our last seven games – but we have to get above 40 points at least – with Aston Villa and Wigan 3rd and 4th bottom respectively with 30 points, and both clubs have a game in hand on Newcastle.
So if they win those games they will be level with Newcastle.
This is what Alan Pardew told BBC Sport after the game:.
“We need two victories at least, and maybe a third, to get ourselves a strong position.” “We are missing some big players at the moment, but we are hoping a few players will be back for Thursday’s Europa league game against Benfica.”
“City played with no pressure about them.” “There was a relaxation around their quality players, but we did not squeeze them enough.” “We were not tight enough or aggressive enough.”
Aston Villa are at home to Liverpool tomorrow and a win in that game will take them level on points with Newcastle.
We’re now in a precarious position after this defeat today – and the fact that other teams around us in the league have done well.

Comment #43theres no way a team could have expected this many injuries and we have strengthened loads its just even the backup players are now injured also lol.
we need a striker or 2 and a winger or 2 imo and if collo goes a replacement but its not lack of service imo making cisse look bad its the lad himself swinging at everything and not knowing where he is instead of using his head and looking he needs a demba ba/another good striker to give him no option but to improve of get dropped.

Comment #45Hats off to the travelling supporters, they are better supporters than ill ever be, supporting the team in performances like this… Living in Denmark, I had the option to turn the TV off at half time and i took that option, the negative play and bad performances from certain players leave me ashamed to afmit that my confidence in our manager and allot of the players are shaking!

Comment #46catchy i have watched every game this season unlike you!
and how you blame everything on pardew is a joke btw imo gouff has been brilliant at trackin back since he came apart from today but its understandable with gutti at lb so don’t know wat your on about!?
@daztoon i agree gutti played well but the point is wat did you really expect against a forword line worth more than our whole squad and as ibiza said we conceded the same ammount when we were more attacking

nope i think we are a great attacking team as well as a massively improved defensive team as no where near as many stupid goals are let in now but in honesty i dont think cisse has what it takes to be depended on as a lone striker and sissoko to me has done a great job behind the striker !
the thing i would change (seeing as benny is injured and our lb/rb injuries) would be to give goofy the lead role up front (but this may or may not work who knows)

Yes but by that time we were chasing the game. They looked so good because we stood off and let them play.We had a five man midfield and never got near them.I at least want the manager having a go at them while the game is being played, not after saying we didn`t close them down

Comment #54A defence that has never played together up against City was always going to struggle.
Our bad luck with injuries, even after the Jan signings, has meant we aren’t playing a settled team and the chopping and changing required for the Europa games hasn’t helped either.
No settled team is the single biggest reason why I am concerned about relegation.

over a season so far,, 56 goals let in,, very very poor
cisse is a good player, but needs more support around him, he is snatching at half chances from 40 yards, because he has no options in front of him,,
he needs players closer to him, wingers and AMC

He is the manager if you and i can agree Simpson and Ober are shit then why can`t Pardew see it.Why do we have a manager who worries more about what the opposition can do than what we can do with the attacking players we have.
People say Cabs, anita, sissoko had bad performaces why because we wern`t playing to their strengths which is an attacking game.

Comment #57can i ask one question who expected to win it??
and catchy i don’t no who ya talkin about? who had a shocker?
@daztoon ober was at fault for both the 1st goals for not closing down thats just him as i said before he’s prob been told all week to defend and close down and he didn’t thats not the managers fault thats why he was pulled off!

most of them goals conceeded i blame on williamson 🙂
we had a very bad 1st half of season but we now have the players we should have signed (apart from a striker but blame remy for that) unfortunatly everyone decided to get injured all at the same time (the inconsiderate b******s)and it must be said i am very very happy with the players we got in both defence and attack as i was one of the 1000’s on here who was saying it would be a dream if we got sissoko and mbiwa.
and yes completely agree with the cisse part (fingers crossed we get a pea or bony to sort that next season but theres not much we can do this season)

So why is Ober picked in front of Marv then as he offer`s nothing in tracking back and of course nothing going forward.Marv may not track back but he can see a pass and doesn`t give the ball away cheaply. Is that not the manager`s choice

the next topic pardew says marv had a slight injury so was not risked and i have never seen marv play half a decent game on the wing tbh but if not injured it could have worked with marv/sissoko behind cisse in a 3 attack
and i agree ober must be on his last legs now and he needs to go to make space for a new face i the summer.

Comment #65IMO Pardew has in football terms not got the players in his corner. In a straight head to head with other PL clubs we have a strong squad but AP cannot get the best out of them.
Anita getting a slagging off some but when he was given a run in the team he showed his quality, got praised but then AP dropped him and he has been a bit part player since. Players need games not in and out.
Obertan is and never been any good. No more to say.
Sissoko is a CDM not a CAM.
Cabaye should be played as the CAM.
In a very precarious position now.
The players must now grow some and deliver and show their fight.
However, irrespective of the bad luck with injuries, to move forward on the pitch then MA needs to part company with AP at the end of this season.
A coaching team of AP, JC and ST is poor and a change is needed.
The question is who can take us forward?

If Marv had a slight injury then he shouldn`t even have been on the bench.Hba had just come back from a hamstring injury yet starts in below minus conditions on a plastic pitch common sense tells you that aint a good for a first game back

Comment #69Hopefully after the last three games of the weekend Stoke,Villa and QPR will not have won.2 of these teams are away but we are now at the time of the season when you get strange results. If Villa and QPR were to lose I would sleep a little easier. No realistic fan really expected a win today against the Champions who were at full strength whilst we were without the majority of our top players eg Krul Debs Colo Tiote and HBA.Several of our squad players are not fit for purpose and a serious review of the back up squad is needed in the close season. We have 7 games left 4 of these at home.We must win 2 hopefully will win 3 and ideally will win 4.If we average a point a game we could stay up but 9 points should be certain. Our away form even with our new players has been poor and this must be addressed. An away win at West Ham, West Brom or QPR would be very welcome and show that we are working on the problem as to win only 1 away league game all season is little short of a disgrace. The players must have belief in themselves that they can stay up.

Funny how it comes out after the game never mentioned pre game press confernce.Marv had a slight hamstring,we didn`t press them enough, we didn`t press them at all.Why can`t we come out from the off ala Chelsea game and press and hassle and attack a team

he did say if it was 1-0 down or 2-1 down he may have risked marv for a few mins which kind of sounds positive thinking tbh
and you can not blame them for arfa’s injury as it was announced days and days before that he was 100% and that he was even left out the game before because they wanted to protect him from injury.

Comment #75Never expected anything today but starting with Obertan , then bringing on Gosling we really are scraping the bottom of the barrel. We sorely missed Tiote in mid field today.& For those who are screaming for Anita to replace him.crawl back into your blindsighted hole .Anita & Cabye were overun today, we Tiote, s bite very much indeed,

Comment #76I feared that would happen today, for all the title race is long over Man City are still a good team and are very strong at home. After being rubbish from the end of October to the end of January we had started to improve a bit but these two defeats in a row, despite the injustice of the one at Wigan, have put us on a bit of a downer again. We aren’t safe yet but there are at leadt 4 teams who would rather be in our position than their own, including the unwashed. A lot of problems caused by playing Jonas at left back. Benfica is going to be interesting, I just hope we aren’t humiliated.
