Simpson, Gutierrez, Anita And Obertan Start

manchester-city-crestnufc

As expected Danny Simpson makes a return to the starting line up at Manchester City today, and Vurnon Anita and Jonas Gutierrez also start.

And Australian Curtis Good, who turned 20 last Saturday, makes the bench for the very first time, and 18 year-old striker Adam Campbell is also a substitute, along with 19 year-old midfielder Gael Bigirimana.

Vurnon Anita will play in the defensive midfield position in place of the injured Cheick Tiote, and it looks like Jonas Gutierrez is in at left back – which is a surprise –  with James Perch on the bench.

For Manchester City, Vincent Kompany comes back in central defense, but Sergio Aguero only makes the bench this afternoon.

We need to take something out of this game this afternoon.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Manchester City (4-3-3-1): Joe Hart; Pablo Zabaleta, Vincent Kompany (c), Joleon Lescott, Gael Clichy; Gareth Barry, Yaya Toure; David Silva, Samir Nasri, Carlos Tevez; Edin Dzeko

Substitutes: Costel Pantilmon, Kolo Toure, Aleksandar Kolarov, Javi Garcia, James Milner, Scott Sinclair, Sergio Aguero

Newcastle United (4-2-3-1): Rob Elliot; Danny Simpson, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Steven Taylor, Jonas Gutierrez; Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye (c); Yoan Gouffran, Moussa Sissoko, Gabriel Obertan; Papiss Cisse

I think we are looking to play counter attacking football, and save some of our other players for the away match on Thursday

for all we know, Obertan may have had a cracking weeks training, and he undoubtedly gives us more balance as apposed to Jonas being on the wing.

He’s gonna’ be on the pitch, lets get behind him rather than complaining about his presence? You never know, he may surprise a few today.

squad is good considering all our injury problem good chance for anita to impress if he gets smashed at CDM role than I guess pardew will shift him to left back and guti to CDM role

think Marv can be a great impact sub at around 70 mins, much better than Obertan would be if Marv started instead of him

No matter what the line up people will criticize,if Puyol RVP and Tevez were in there people would be saying Obertan deserves a chance.

Cant see us beating Man City at home. Hope for a positive performance to take into Portugal.

Looks like Marv and Perch are getting rested as they will be key figures against Benfica.

Good desision imo. Obertan will be better protection against clichy. Marveaux could be super-sub. Not usually my attitude against Pardew but i can see what he’s thinking. Only time will tell whether he’s right but for now lets not criticize.

This is really Obertan’s last opportunity to impress

He will be playing wide only needs to watch Gouffran to watch how to play pace movement and tries hard if Obertan can copy that on the other wing we can trouble them

Cabaye Sissoko and Anita are my 1st choice midfield trio for me anyway Tiote has been shite all season Anita will allow us to keep the ball move it a bit better

Jonas will actually be pretty good at fullback as he is no use going forward anyway so its better he is sitting back

Oh no not Obertan. Just demonstrates we are short up front.
We might sneak a point if there are no individual errors. as somebody else posted previously -need Cisse to get something out of the blue -other potential is Sissoko – his history over the last couple of years is to have good games and then mediocre. Hopefully if he wants to emulate the likes of Vierra and Toure today is a good place to start. Going to be hard though. Somebody said previously if we are going to be ball chasing for 70 minutes we are gong to be knackered. On the plus side City have the potential for an off day -here’s hoping.

absolutely nothing wrong with the obertan call. he gives us an outlet when the pressure begins to pile up. jonas at lb is far more worrisome if you ask me.

No Demand…You are most welcome. Anything to keep you distracted from another home loss.

Rainrix…But that leads to another question…is Robin actually Robin? Which leads to yet another question? Do we actually care? Is that even a question? 🙂

toonbrother @28 – the theory about Obertan being an potential outlet -if we are under pressure – is correct. Problem is can Obertan fulfill the intended role? I have doubts but hope he might do something (which is unlikely based on recent performances).
I am now getting a bit sick of reading the full user names of Ibiza -to check if it is the real one or bashed bonce
