Newcastle Linked with Lille And Cameroon Defender

News in the Daily Mirror that Newcastle may be after 27 year-old Cameroon and Lille center-back Aurelien Chedjou.

Aurelien Chedjou – Newcastle interested

Now it’s true we expect Newcastle to be linked with a number of center-backs from now through the summer, because Newcastle could be losing both Fab Coloccini and Mike Williamson in the summer.

However, the 14 times capped Cameroon International doesn’t really fit the young profile of players Newcastle have generally been after, although it’s true he’s younger than 29 year-old Mike Williamson and 31 year-old Fabricio Coloccini.

The Mirror is saying that Chedjou could be worth up to £12M, and if that’s true it would probably mean Newcastle would not be interested, since there are other good defenders that Newcastle could get for less than that fee – including 23 year-old French International Mamadou Sakho of PSG.

Chedjou joined Lille in 2007 from Rouen, and will be well known by both Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy, who were at Lille for a number of seasons with Chedjou, so there may be a credible link there.

Aurelien has played 218 times with 15 goals for Lille, and was part of the French Champions side of 2010-2011, along with Yohan Cabaye and Mathieu Debuchy.

Our defending this season has been a joke. 56 goals conceded this season, only Reading have conceded more. We need to tighten up Williamson & Simpson will hopefully move on. Therefore we will need more quality, this lad may for the bill, but I would prefer we signed some proven premier league defenders.

Non story. Doesnt fit our policy. 12m for a 27yr old with a very low resale value. But you never know with MA

As to the previous blog – part of our summer clear out should include Alan Pardew. Under him we will always be a team of 2 halves. Too defensive minded. We’ve never beaten a team by 3-0 or thumped anyone under his reign whereas other teams below us have

When we finished 2010-11 season our GD was -1. 2011-12 season GD +5 and finished 5th. Other teams above and below us had better GD.

This season so far, GD -15.

Would rather have Rafael Benitez replace him who is a winner and knows how to get the best out of his players and is a winner and says things as it is rather than beat around the bush like AP

As other bloggers have pointed out, our medical (incl physio’s) and conditioning staff need to be looked into. You cant have players pullng their hammy’s every 3 games and say they will be out for 2 weeks which then gets extended by another 2 weeks. Something is not right here.

repost (coz i’ve been waiting all day to say this after sum of the comments 2day!)

to all the pardew slaters i.e rotunda, catchy n jack butler how long are you gonna give the next manager with his own team??
remember pardew got us 5th last season ( and won double manager of the year!) and should have replaced the players who we all said weren’t good enough in the summer but guess wat the owner n lamearse thought we’d be alright!
not pardews fault! and i agree with JFA the hangover of that summer business or lack off ruined the season before it started!
it must have been demoralizing after workin so hard all season for the players and manager and then add the injuries it was a recipe for a bad season!
but since pardews got the players we should have got in the summer we’ve improved!
imagine the kind of team ethic n understanding we’d have at this poin’t if they’d came in the summer?
how many new defenses have we put out this season?
i’d probably guarentee no other team have had to change there back 5 as much as us!
so you pardew haters tell me another viable manager that would cope with a season like ours!!?
also on the demoralizing bit the players who won the right to play in europe hardly got a game for most of the group stage due to our very undersized squad n injuries again not pardews fault!!

This one doesn’t fit our tfansfer criteria, plus he’s third CMD we’ve been linked with in the last few days, sadly the situation with Colo hasn’t helped matters we are now forced to reexamine our priorities, instead of a winger and two strikers, we are being forced to look to strengthen our back four plus look for quality strikers, we cant do it all in one go

Chedjou’s a good player but at 12 mill that’s a bit steep for a 27 year old, and for me Sakho is overated I’ve seen many performances where he hasn’t impressed and has been prone to mistakes. For me the CB we should be going for is Umtiti this lads a natural CB who has played mainly as a LB for Lyon this season, I rate him very highly and for me is a better prospect than Sakho and eventually he will be a starter for France. There’s also Kurt Zouma from Saint Etienne we need to sign this lad and loan him back before a big club comes in.
