Reports Ben Arfa To Leave Newcastle This Summer

10:14 am, Friday, April 5th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 40 Comments

This is not the first time we’ve heard the news that Liverpool and Newcastle may do a swap deal for Andy Carroll, and let Hatem Ben Arfa go in the opposite direction, but we’d be very surprised if Newcastle will agree to the deal.

Hatem Ben Arfa – moving to Liverpool?

It’s the Daily Mirror that’s reporting the news again, that Andy Carroll could make a return home to Newcastle United – but if the news in Spain this morning is true – that Newcastle are in negotiations with Vitoria Giumares to sign their 6’4? 21 year old striker Amido Balde - why would Newcastle still be interested in Andy?

We reported yesterday that Andy Carroll will be up for sale for £17M in the summer, and he’s simply not worth that much – but we suppose Newcastle may think it’s a good deal is they can get a (very) high valuation on the 25 year-old Frenchman, and we suppose the good form of Sylvain Marveaux could tempt Newcastle to sell Ben Arfa – but we doubt it.

It’s true that Brendan Rodgers is interested in the French wizard, but the lad’s so popular at Newcastle, there would be complete  uproar among the fans if we let him leave – especially to Liverpool.

There’s no real new news in the Mirror on this from when this story first broke several weeks ago – and we simply don’t think it will ever happen.

We hope it will never happen.

What do you think?

    I’d cry, simple as that.

Rodgers deny Andy Hatem swap plans. That is good, because although bringing Andy in would always be welcome but that in no way should be in exchange of Ben Arfa. I strongly believe our results would have been different had ben arfa been around. A Carroll for Pardew deal could be proposed instead, since Liverpool is that stupid.

cough * blatant gutter press regurgitation* cough

Seriously how transparent can these stories get?

  • 4 jayphoto // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:21 AM

Wouldn’t want carroll in return but if we got over 20m for HBA and it was reinvested back into the first team it’d be hard to argue with that deal! Benny is magic but he doesnt assist, create or score enough and his injury record isn’t the best and hamstring injuries are usually reaccurring! Look at what bale, walcott return from a wide position, even routledge and downing ate returning similar percentages of chances created etc, with bennys talent he should offer far more!

  • 5 daztoon // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:24 AM

We started so well took the game to them and played with a high defensive line but as soon as we scored it changed. The defence backed off and gave them all the room they needed. As soon as we lose the ball our defence drops back to our 18 yard line leaving a big hole between themselves and our midfield which was exploited by city on Saturday and Benfica last night.

  • 6 WWYCD // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:24 AM

Done deal one crock for another ;)

Tough result to take last night but judging by the commentary on twitter we had more than enough fire power to win the game with a bit more luck and a 2-0 win at St James isn’t out of the question considering their winning goals were from 2 stupid mistakes which should be beaten out of the team this week. Win vs Fulham to start us off and a jumping stadium inviting in Benfica maybe just maybe we’ll see some chance of glory yet

What about Carroll for shola? Liverpool are gonna get one of our players, they always do. Shola would be a great aqusation he’s sooooo underrated.

Mike Ashley and llambias have been great this season if they followed through with this deal it will remind every fan of what a shite owner nufc have. But I believe he isn’t he’s made mistakes which I’ve forgiven now hes got a great ambition for the club and he’s doing well!

  • 8 NUFCarter // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:26 AM

I hope Ashley just laughs at these stories everyday. He must hate Liverpool as well as qpr.

  • 9 ichrisho // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:30 AM

Any new players will do as long as they want to come and win… BEN10 wouldn’t sign for Liverpool… not in a million years… forget it…

  • 10 ichrisho // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:32 AM

Plus anyone think Yanga-Mbiwa did really well last night… he looked tidy… Sissoko on the other hand looked jaded again and a little untidy with his ball control…

  • 11 WWYCD // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:36 AM

    ichrisho
Hate to tell u but he was flirting with Liverpool not so long ago he wouldn’t of mentioned them if he didn’t have interest in them

  • 12 daztoon // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:37 AM

If we swap HBA for Carroll then we are indeed going backwards

  • 13 ichrisho // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Do you think he would go to Liverpool though seriously? that would be sad… :(

  • 14 jayphoto // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:38 AM

Ichriso – hatem has mentioned liverpool a few times in french press in complimentary fashion! Reckon he would go, think Rodgers has them playing good stuff, hes got henderson and downing playing well again and for me Suarez is the best in the EPL! Reckon with 2 or 3 players and now theyre used to rodgers style that theyll be top 4 next season!

  • 15 wreker16 // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:38 AM

I actually thought mapou played poorly, slow to react for the first goal, gave the ball away constantly 20 mins or so into the second half, gave the ball away but as he has the pace to keep up with them I might let him off :)

Class player but I didn’t think it was his finest match. Lots of good things to come from him I’m sure

  • 16 Spreadthetoon // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:40 AM

complete fabrication. in other words what a crock of …….LOL

  • 17 WWYCD // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:40 AM

    ichrisho
Aye I think if he was offered he’d be off

  • 18 Transfer Sage // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:40 AM

i thought yanga-mbiwa was very poor last night..he made a good few mistakes.

Their first goal he was caught on his heels when he should have cleared the ball after krul saved.

then in the second hald he got out muscled in the box allowing a player to square it, should have been a goal.

  • 19 wreker16 // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:44 AM

Also, I know it’s not going to happen but I would like Simmo to stay. Solid enough back up if he doesn’t mind knowing debuchy is ahead of him

  • 20 RedMissionBells // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:46 AM

    Dear all,

If this Carroll – Arfa swap deal does happen, I will be utterly shocked and disappointed.

Arfa is easily our most flamboyant and skillful player. In my opinion, Arfa plays at a higher level than Modric. Essentially, Arfa has the potential to play at the same level as Ibrahimovic, Kevin Prince Boateng and even Alexis Sanchez.

Andy Carroll, on the other hand, is a reject from Liverpool who is not even flourishing at West Ham. Andy Carroll is not going to take us to the next level.

We must keep hold of Ben Arfa as we have a true gem. For the amount we paid for Arfa, we can NEVER buy a player of the same quality. We are talking about a player whose goal was nominated for Pukas Award.

    This story is crazy.

  • 21 jayphoto // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:47 AM

Think the whole defense was poor last night! Simmo allowed his opposite fullback to push up too far as he offered no attacking threat or overlap! Taylor lost his head for the pen! MYM was off form in most areas and santon gifted them the second goal! They looked dangerous whenever they attacked! If im honest id like to see sissoko given a central role and marveaux given that free role off the striker! Failing that 2 up top with cisse and gouffran! Its really frustrating how isolated cisse ends up during games but i think sissoko has the power pace and engine to get into the box from a deeper position

  • 22 Slank // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:49 AM

I don’t see any swop happening as why would Newcastle pay 17M for Carroll when all our recent purchases have been substantially less than 10M.

If Ben Arfa goes (and I think there is every chance he will) then I think it will be to PSG. I think things are not right with Ben Arfa. Perhaps too many French players?

We don’t know what Gallic goings-on are going on behind the scenes. Just because there are lots of French players at the club it doesn’t mean its all bon ami amongst them. Something isn’t right.

  • 23 Transfer Sage // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:51 AM

I love to watch ben arfa, our most exciting player but the doesn’t offer enough end product and that is why he will stay.

No top club will buy him for the fee we’d accept and not smaller club would pay that much.

Only possible move i can see for him would be monaco.

  • 24 Slank // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:52 AM

‘Done deal one crock for another’

Lot of truth there my friend.

  • 25 TheToonKing // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:57 AM

I love Benny, but we could have Messi and Ronaldo and have f3ck all if they are always injured and never playing.

He played 43 times since 2010. that’s unacceptable in my mind for someone of that caliber and importance to the team.

  • 26 WWYCD // Apr 5, 2013 at 10:58 AM

    Slank
Yeah I was just fishing tbh but there is a element of truth in it unfortunately

  • 27 danuneek // Apr 5, 2013 at 11:00 AM

If this happened I would be gutted. Seriously gutted! and it would also confirm Pardew’s intentions to play long ball football. We always get so close but yet so far away … We have a decent squad and with the addition of a few quality acquisitions in key areas we would have an awesome squad. But Andy Carroll is not the answer, he’s only scored a few goals since he left. Benny is easily worth £20m which is about £15m more than what Carroll is worth. I have a feeling one of our favorite players will be leaving this summer, I thought it could be Cabaye but now I reckon it could be Benny. I get the feeling Pardew has never really liked using Benny because he doesn’t fit into Pardew’s ethos of crap football.

  • 28 Phil K // Apr 5, 2013 at 11:06 AM

Must admit, Ive been very suspicious of Ben Arfas extended “injury” which has been disastrous for us.
But what promise do we have with Pardew as manager ? We’re going backward at an alarming rate

  • 29 ichrisho // Apr 5, 2013 at 11:07 AM

…..the days of Sexy-Hoof-Ball (Mix of Gullit and Pardews ideologies) are coming… its trademarked so no stealing!!!! :)

I didnt know that Ben10 had mentioned Liverpool before… Oh.. after all we have done for him it would be a great disservice to Newcastle and the fans… but if he wants he can go to LeFontaine from Liverpool airport 6 months at a time then… Nae Loss…

  • 30 geordiemark // Apr 5, 2013 at 11:39 AM

if liverfool come up with what ashley wants then ben arfa will be away simple as that, to be honest yes ben arfa is an excellent player thats when he plays and this season hes been injured more so id say sell him but god dont go for carrol theres a lot more other players a lot better then he is why dont they go for cordozo he would fit in perfect

I was impressed with benfica last night but not so impressed with there play acting cant stand when footballers do this havent they not got enough skill

yes its been great being in europe but its been a right nightmare for the toon with injured players ect ect and not enough first team players available to which this comes down to ashley and then you have to blame pardew for his tactics, theres better managers out there in france, germany, spain who are far more advanced in the tactic game then pardew can dream about so id sack him at the end of the season

3 points on sunday no draws and def no defeats no excuses good attacking tactics mr pardew or there will be hell on

  • 31 Dubaigeordie // Apr 5, 2013 at 12:00 PM

Why would we want to spend 17 million for andy carrol when there are a lot better options for cheaper.
Torres 15 mill – i understand maybe he hasn’t been that great this season but 19 goals in all competitions still a fab goal scorer.
Robben ( perfect replacement for ben area) 15 mill – i understand he is old but still if you watch bayern play he is still one of the best players they have !!!

I doubt Ashley will spend that sort of money on Andy Carrol when the other options are there and out in the open!

  • 32 geordiesteve520 // Apr 5, 2013 at 12:17 PM

Ichriso, I actually thought Mbiwa was a bit of a liability last night, was at fault for the goal as he wasn’t switched on and was caught out a lot especially by Rodrigo running off his shoulder. I am sure he will be outstanding but thought he looked dodgy last night.

  • 33 stuart no9 // Apr 5, 2013 at 12:37 PM

this cant happen . as simple as that. that would be going backwards. but if it means a few quid in ashleys pocket , then it dosnt matter what us fans think- hes gone.

  • 34 Rozzy // Apr 5, 2013 at 12:58 PM

Give us £10m+ Agger, Gerrard, Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez (even thought i hate him) and we have a deal Mr Rodgers :D

  • 35 toonluvva // Apr 5, 2013 at 1:13 PM

Sorry but I fully expect either Cabaye or HBA to be away during the summer.
Pardew really needs to prove to the players that the Toon can move onwards next season and unfortunately I am just not sure that we have the right man at the helm to provide that reassurance.

  • 36 mindshaft // Apr 5, 2013 at 1:20 PM

At least Mbiwa reacted – the rest of the defense just stood there watching – last nights defeat was solely down to Taylor and Santon, two unforgivable mistakes and both should be dropped as soon as Collo and Haidara are fit

  • 37 ende // Apr 5, 2013 at 2:24 PM

    Non news.

  • 38 chuck // Apr 5, 2013 at 4:12 PM

    What do i think?
Can we start playing a modern version of the game now we are recruiting pacey, technical players to the side.
Or will we revert to a BSA -Pulis game of humping it into the big guy in the box.
This was successful with Jacky Charltons Ireland side back in the day.
    The answer is no!
Carroll would not fit and HBA is a more valuable player, keep him.
