Newcastle United have already been linked with about four players in the last few days, and we are being linked again with Brazilian Marcos Rocha today.
Marcos Rocha – Newcastle still linked with the Brazilian
The 24 year-old right back who stands 6′ tall, currently plays in the black and white stripes of Atlético Mineiro in Brazil – so the question is – will he be changing those for the famous black and white stripes of Newcastle United in the summer?
The news is being reported in Il Corriere Dello Sport in Italy, and maybe we are going after a right back to replace Danny Simpson, who will leave Newcastle when his contract runs out in the summer.
Rocha was recently called up by the Brazilian National side, and we were linked with this player in November and December last year, so this may be stale news since we have since signed both Mathieu Debuchy and Massadio Haidara since then.
And Davide Santon can play right back – and Vurnon Anita can play full-back – so we seem fairly well off for full -backs these days.
In November, when he heard of interest from Premier League clubs he had this to say to Globo Esporte:
“My press adviser talked to me about that and then my agent called me. None of them knew anything about it, and neither did Atletico Atlético’s director of football Maluf. ”
“But everyone knows the Premier League is one of the best leagues, it’s hard, not everyone can play there, so I can only be thankful.” “Mineiro President Alexandre Kalil calmed everyone down and said he won’t let anybody leave, not even Bernard, before the end of Atletico’s participation in Libertadores.”
“So if I have to go, it will be after Libertadores.”
So he was saying he couldn’t leave until the summer, so it will be interesting to see if he’s real target of Newcastle’s this summer.
It could be that Newcastle are still interested in the player, and that he will be brought in to challenge Mathieu Debuchy for the right back spot, and Massadio Haidara is in place to challenge Davide Santon for the left back position.
The defender plays the game like Cheick Tiote – very physically – and he’s strong in the tackle, and has 50 yellow cards in 149 league appearances for Atletico and he’s also scored 12 goals.
