Perch Out – Yoan Gouffran In For Fulham

nufcfulham-fc

James Perch cannot make the game today and Yoan Gouffran will start up front with Papiss Cisse in a 4-4-2 attacking formation.

Apart from that change it’s the same team that played in Lisbon on Thursday evening – and Adam Campbell is again on the bench with Shola Ameobi, in case more firepower is needed in the game.

It looks like Moussa Sissoko will be playing the defensive midfield role in the center of the park – and of course he’s played this position many times for Toulouse – and it could even be his best position.

This is a very important game for the club – and a win would give us some relief from relegation – but now is the time for our players to produce – and hopefully they can get the job done today and win this game for the fans.

For Fulham Dimitar Berbatov and former target Bran Ruiz are the danger men for the Cottagers, with Damien Duff, the former Newcastle winger also starting the game, and no doubt he will be soundly booed this afternoon.

Howay The Lads!!

Teams:

Newcastle United (4-4-2): Tim Krul; Danny Simpson, Steven Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Davide Santon; Sylvain Marveaux, Yohan Cabaye (c), Moussa Sissoko, Jonas Gutierrez; Papiss Cisse, Yoan Gouffran
Substitutes: Rob Elliot, Mike Williamson, Gael Bigirimana, Vurnon Anita, Gabriel Obertan, Adam Campbell, Shola Ameobi

Fulham – Mark Schwarzer; Sascha Riether, Philippe Senderos, Brede Hangeland (c), John Arne Riise; Stanislav Manolev, Eyong Enoh, Giorgos Karagounis, Damien Duff; Bryan Ruiz; Dimitar Berbatov
Substitutes: Neil Etheridge, Aaron Hughes, Kieran Richardson, Emmanuel Frimpong, Urby Emanuelson, Kerim Frei, Hugo Rodallega

But agree that Marv is going to have to take things into his own hands and play in the hole, or there’s not much point in him playing.

This 4-4-2 will either go very well or horribly wrong.

Wasn’t that long ago I remember lots on here screaming for AP to drop the 4-4-2 for the 4-5-1…

Don’t care what we play or how we play though, as long as we get 3 points! HWTL

TKF – i imagine cisse and gouffran will work between fulham’s cbs and fbs. Hopefully marv and jonas will help dominate the centre of the park.

Cisse is certainly not a lone striker, so it’s worth trying him with gouff.

Most were screaming for 442 in favour of 433 not 451. I don’t know why Pardew is so scared of an attacking 433! We’re at home against Fulham for God’s sake.

I’m not sure if it’s a 4-4-2, I think it might just be the usual formation with Marveaux in the hole, Moussa and Cabaye in the deep midfield positions and Gouffran and Jonas on the wings. The club never actually announces what formation it’s playing, they just announce the players.

Surprised that Frimpong isn’t on and their midfield should be there for the taking.
Would rather have Marveau on the left than the right but Jonas has probably been given the job of stopping Duff man.
Karagounis against Cabaye or Sissoko should be ours and enoh I don’t know of but manolev is a tidy player

    Getting excited now
    Howay the lads

I think this will actually be 433, with Sissoko, Cabaye and Marveaux in the middle, Jonas and Gouffran on the wings and Cisse upfront.

The problem with 4-3-3 is that we don’t have a credible front 3.

looking forward to 442. gouffran is primarily a striker, and does link well with cisse. moussa playing the role he’s more used to, deeper, alongside cabaye.

i think there’l be goals. we will have to run harder n faster than fulham if we’re to win. if we want it more theyre there for the taking.

not overly confident gotta be honest

Is it actually a 4-4-2? To me it looks like it could have Marv or moussa in the hole with either guti or moussa joining cabaye in the centre of the park with only cisse as a striker.

    Who knows with Pardew though

Think the front 2 and fullbacks will do most of the wide work, with jonas and marv coming central.

Most of us were wanting Pardew to drop the 442 hoofball and go back to 433, but instead Pards went 451 then 4231 and now 442 with 2 non-wingers. You couldn’t make it up.
Marv has to be played centrally in the hole. Lets be honest there’ll be little to no overlapping on Simmo’s side.

Let’s hope Fulham won’t be beastly and let us get some good passes in to the box !!!

northernirish – They’ve done that before and then we’ve set up differently to what’s being reported. I’m just saying, the players that are on the teamsheet could very easily be lining up in the usual formation.

i agree that formation could be different and change throughout but im expecting n hoping for 442.

we should crowd karagounis out but hes clever player. seen enoh before n thought he looked decent but our midfield is better.

hope duff gets crippled within a minute. or gives away a pen. or gets sent off. i hate him

Good adaptable team. Can easily switch to a 4-2-3-1 if 4-4-2 isn’t working.
    —Cabs-Moussa
    Gouff-Marv-Jonas
    —–Cisse

Or Jonas CDM, Marv wide and Moussa CAM.

It’s great to have the pace of Gouff back in the team.

Pleased to see Goofy given the chance to play further forward, hopefully will link up well with Cisse, Fulhams CB’s arent the most mobile, however if we play long hoofballs into the front two, Pardew needs Sacking after the game, If we go long it will be a nightmare and complete stupidity, unfortunately its ahat i expect.

Anita should be playing full back instead of Simpson, baffling.

    Tommy @ 14

If we knew that it would go a long way to explaining things that’s for sure/.

It’s ell documented Pardew spends 4 days out of 5 training days defending so may be it’s to be expected, but surely a manager should be able to do attacking and defending and not have so much emphasis on negative play only.

If Pards is 4 days defending and carver gets 1 day attacking then it’s not fit for purpose.
