French Surgeon – Ben Arfa Is Now 100% – Back For Sunderland?

We had said before that it wasn’t clear to us that Newcastle knew exactly what was wrong with Ben Arfa’s hamstring, but it seems that specialists have now determined the prognosis – and they say he’s 100% fit.

Ben Arfa – French surgeon says he’s 100%

It seems that the French International has some scar tissue on the hamstring, which will cause him no ill effects – so that sounds some good news this morning.

This is what Alan Pardew said in the Shields Gazette today:

“What’s happened with Hatem is that the scan has shown that we’ve got some scar tissue still in the hamstring,” “He’s showing no ill-effects.”

“We’ve sent him to three experts, mainly a French expert, who’s been looking after him. He thinks that he’s 100 per cent.” “We’re now treating him as that.”

“He’s running. There could be a cameo as soon as Sunderland.” “He’s got a week’s work. If he gets through that work, then he could be involved.”

“It’d be a massive bonus for us, but it’s still too early to call,” “After the last time, we said he wouldn’t play again this season – and half of me thought he might.”

“I just wanted to clear his mind and see how he reacted. Hopefully, we’ll get a nice bonus.”

It seems that Ben Arfa will have a week of training and then he could be back for the Sunderland game, which would be terrific for Newcastle,  and he could be available for all six remaining Premier League games.

And since we are only 3 points behind Fulham in 10th place, we could yet make the top ten of the league, which would make things look a little more respectable some the end of the season.

We are also hoping we may get Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara and maybe some other injured players back for the Sunderland game.

This is good news this morning about Ben Arfa.

Great news, just hope it doesn’t mean Marveaux back on the bench as he has been a revelation. Most cultured left foot I’ve seen since Tommy Craig and chippy Brady (showing my age!)

    Krul

    Debuchy Colo M’Biwa Haidara

    Sissoko Cabaye Marveaux

    Benny Cisse Goofy

    Subs

    Santon
    Guti
    Saylor
    Anita
    Tiote
    Eliot
    Bigi
    _ _ _ _ _ _

    Campbell
    Shola
    Obertan
    Raylor
    Williamson
    Simpson

That’s a massive squad and pretty much all available

Ed, prognosis or shouldn’t it be diagnosis? Sorry, nitpicking.

Would love to see HBA back, as long as he won’t be damaged again after 10 minutes!!

    Rotonda,
you’ve ‘benched’ a couple of our best performers from yesterday. Not sure that’s right.

Rotonda…Whilst I’ve always supported and not doubted Marv I have been fairly critical of him as I’ve always felt despite a few flashed of brilliance he doesn’t perform anywhere near enough to warrant a starting spot.

He has really taken his opportunity the last few games and does deserve to be starting games…who do we drop? I guess Jonas.

    —–Cabaye—Sissoko—–
    HBA—–Marv—-Gouffran
    ———-Cisse————–

I think I could handle something similar to that 🙂

Not sure why I asked the question when you’d already answered it. Not off to the best of starts today. I blame Cisse and Pardew as they made me start drinking yesterday.

On Jonas…I have never been a fan of him at LB, but he did do a great job there yesterday. Still don’t think it’s his best position, but a great performance from him.

Might be a daft question but if ideally who would you want going down, Sunderland or Wigan? I think I would rather Wigan went down, so at least we still had the derby. After that Wigan game, I’m still angry at their attitude.

Spoof…I actually had forgotten about the machine that is Tiote 🙁

For me then, it has to fall down to who is in form. Competition for places is great for the team.

Would love to see HBA back and getting through a game, would do wonders for him as well as the fans, never mind the team.
have been saying it for ages Sylvain Marveaux is one of the most skilful footballers around, he just ghosts by the oppostion, hes one of those player that come along very rarely, we have two of them, he just lacks a bit of confidence in his own ability plus the need to do it for 90 mins + Cisses 5 added minutes, he also needs the support of the manager to have trust in him.
Different point – Sissoko was luck to escape a second booking for going into the crowd after Cisse when he scored yesterday, Cisse got booked but do not think any action was taken against Sissoko, probably said he went in to rescue Cisse.

danuneek, I would rather Wigan go down as well, because we always get more points off Sunderand than what we do off Wigan, we have to look after ourselves.

No, that isn’t what Pardew said. He said that 3 experts have had a look at Benny and that ONE of them said that he thought he was 100%. Pards didn’t say what the opinion of the other 2 experts was.

Pardew is not going to play him for the full game. I would start him on the bench and then at half time make a decision on who to bring off depending on who’s playing well/ How the game is going.
He was brought on at half time last year and completely changed the game…..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpgBVxe41t4

@Chris_g. Ed has got it right. Pardew has said ‘Mainly a french expert’ Then went on to say that they are listening to his opinion and treating him as 100% fit. Based on that ONE experts opinion.
Have you even read the article? or just one paragraph?

We always get such conflicting stories were ben arfa is concerned? he came out of court last week and looked like a wwf wrestler, looked like he had just finished a shift at the local kebab shop, that said if he is 100 per cent fit??? then he has to be involved he the mackems, even though it will be as sub no doubt, at least its a bit of hope.

On that game yesterday AP said we looked a bit lacl lustre first half and we couldn’t get going, my question would be how the hell cant you be up for the most important game of the season, in the second half we had no option but to push forward more, which we did, and match of the day made it look better than it was IMO, but we did create chances because we took risks, still not a consistant 90 mins as usual but I suppose the three points is what will show in the record books.

Most of the team upped their game second half, a fantastic save by krul as well and a very good goal and good work from mainly marv who at least was trying to open their defence up, we prob still need 3 or 4 points for total safety, but it was massive yesterday, and fair play Jonas did have a decent second half, and the celebrations of cisse and sissoko along with AP in the crowd ended a very tense and nervous day on a hysterical note for the Geordie faithful.

what a difference a day makes cisse could of had a hatrick yesterday again, and he kept smiling and trying right to the end, marv looks great now and just cant be dropped on that form, benny got to get 20 mins or so at the end as well as shola ……,we have got a job to pick a team when there all fit, guti put in a good shift at left back, haidara been out for a while and first derby game so think it might be a case of guti in front to help out a bit for the sundaland game, as for benfica i wouldnt like to be in pards shoes if anyone gets injured he,ll get slaughtered and some of them are going to have tied legs
and id prefer wigan down after robbing us, we are always good for points against the scummers
is it about time remy and sambas realise clauses were made public harry surely someone must be able to start rumours somewere

Ben arfa for Marv on the 70th minute, marv has been great but looked done in yesteray and the benifica game, still have him start but ben arfa on the bench is what we need this season, id take him have at benfica on the bench and come the second half if we need a goal we need ben arfa on
