Metro is reporting that Newcastle will go after Loic Remy in the summer if QPR are relegated, and of course the French striker will leave the London club via that release clause he has in his contract.
Loic Remy - Newcastle still interested
We’d be very surprised if this news was true, after Loic rejected Newcastle for more money in January, and joined a club that has only around 17,000 in home gates, and was literally rock bottom of the league when he signed.
But it seems that Remy would have been a great acquisition for Newcastle, if we had signed him in January, since he’s scored 5 goals in 8 league appearances for QPR, who now look like they will be relegated in May.
Newcastle had been in the driver’s seat in January to sign the striker to replace Demba Ba, who went to Chelsea, but at the very last moment QPR crept in and signed the French International striker.
They did it by offering him sky high wages, and Tony Fernadandes the owner got personally involved, but he wouldn’t get those wages at Newcastle this summer.
Newcastle were less than happy with his agents and Remy himself, that they were blind-sided by them meeting in London with QPR, without Newcastle’s knowledge.
There is news that Aston Villa want the striker, but we think there will be a lot more clubs than just Villa who will want Loic Remy in the summer, after his good goal scoring form for QPR.
Let us know if you think we should sign Loic this summer – given what happened in January.
