Newcastle Fans Divided On Signing Loic Remy

There was a report out yesterday that Newcastle would be interested in signing Loic Remy this summer,  if QPR ar relegated, which now looks likely.

And we put a poll out yesterday asking readers whether we should sign Remy in the summer, after he had rejected Newcastle to get around £80K/week at QPR, which is all the small London club could offer – cash.

Should Newcastle Sign Loic Remy This Summer

Loading ... Loading ...

The results are almost right down the middle, and we think Newcastle will not go after Remy this summer, but will turn to other targets, in a bid to replace Demba Ba, which we didn’t do in January.

It’s rare that Mike Ashley and Derek LLambias want a player who has publicly shunned Newcastle – and they only want players who want to come to Newcastle, and that’s worked out well over the last three years.

That didn’t seem to be the case with Loic in January, after everything had been agreed, and we think he will again go to the highest bidder, and maybe one of the top six clubs in the Premier League.

There again, if he agreed to walk on his hands and knees to St. James’ Park from Loftus Road, then there’s a chance we could still sign him – but we doubt it. 😀

What do you think?

    Morning jesp.

Im torn about the whole thing. I too can’t see Ashley the person being all too forgiving, but at the same time, Ashley the businessman might.

QPR have done the donkey work and settled Remy into the premier league, and now we could (stress COULD) sign Remy ready to go for next season.

Nobody can doubt his ability, and GC clearly felt he was a fit for this club when it comes to personality, but his loyalty etc is something only the club cab decide on.

I don’t know whether it will happen, as much as fans state he had his chance etc, if he starts scoring 10-15 goals in toon colours, he will be quickly forgiven.

Are his wage demands too high now? Or would he be happy to accept the original offer made to him by us in the last window?

    Who knows…

    Hi Torq…thanks for the reply!

…yeah! who knows! I don’t bear a grudge so if it happens it happens! And as you say should he score 10-15 goals all’s forgiven and forgotten 😉

Seems just like when Ba came to the PL, scored a few goals for a team that ends up relegated, release clause, big wages, mercenary. Yes we got some goals from Ba but can we go through the whole circus again??? If we did get him then definitely dont put a bloody clause in his contract again like with Ba!!!

Ibiza…saw your Q about Community yesterday!

…it’s a great show (a bit strange at times, but that’s actually what makes it great I think)

It’s very critically acclaimed and have high ratings. Check out imdb.com.

I can highly recommend it (but you need to give it time to grow). They at season four now I think 🙂

    Jesp –

Exactly. Whatever happens I think the club will distance themselves from the player publicly whilst enquiring in private. I’m just lucky to know people.

That way if nothing happens, nobody is none the wiser and the club arent seen to have been ‘rejected twice’ by a player.

As I say, we ARE meeting with the club and his reps, so I guess time will tell.

Ok due to my earlier typo, i will be starting a hat campaign for new players. Each potential will have a vote process as to which hat they should wear if they do sign. The most popular suggestion will bee forwarded to nufc, and they should supply the player with the required hat for the photo shoot.

Personally, although as a newcastle fan, i was quite devastated when Loic chose QPR, so he made the wrong decision, but he’s got a brilliant record, and we need the type of player in Loic, he’s incredibly fast, great finish, he’s a complete striker, and face it i don’t think we will be able to afford PEA, and i’d rather have remy than carroll any day. So if the chance comes up, i’d immediately snap up remy in a heartbeat, although arsenal are also interested so it may be difficult. Although QPR are a smaller club, you have to think, remy’s got a trace of a heart problem, if something happened, he’d need all the money he could get. But if we do sign him, i think we should just put all that january riff-raff behind us. And let’s say that Loic needs a fresh start in the prem.

Do I think we will sign him? No. Do I think we should? Yes!

Let’s face it 90% of modern footballers play for money, and the amount getting thrown at them, you can’t really blame them. How many of our players really love the club, and wouldn’t move if offered twice the wages? very few.

He’s a class player, and would be a great partner for Cisse up front.

However i’m not sure we’ll pay his wages. Not sure if the club want him anymore either.

If we are indeed making enquiries, then I’m sure MA/DL will not risk the same situation again.
It will be either sign on the dotted line on the first day the window opens –
or we will assume the worst, write him off and look elsewhere.

after being paid 110 grand which includes goals ect ect not likely he will want to take a wage cut after that plus he had his chance and blew it, we need players who will be loyal to the toon and not there wage packets

What is the point of this! Have we not learned from signing mercenaries in the past? Owen, Babayaro, Kluivert, Marcelino etc etc etc.
Ashley is no mug, he won’t go back for this plonker. That’s why we have a squad with spirit now, no room for players like R£MY.

Would be great to get him and put him on £40k/week and £10k/ goal and £5k per assist. Would be great business and get him to admit he went the QPR ” just for the money ” as any player would, we were just priced out of it at the time and Harry was desperate.

On the ‘should we shan’t we’ sign Remy is it not the case SAF of Manure tried to sign Shearer ‘twice’……

I suppose if its acceptable for the manager reportedly the best of all time to try and get someone who had previously turned him down then its ok for us.

I suppose a few years ago i would not have wanted to, however i am now 43 and would like to see us win one of the domestic cups so want a striker who i think would play well within our current group.

    just imo

Changing what I said before, just a little bit –

I can understand why Remy had to keep quiet about talking to QPR.
I’m sure MA/DL would understand that if another club made a FA better offer, then he would go there instead.
    But
It depends on whether Remy was the one who told MA/DL that he had a far better offer than we could give (in which case MA/DL would probably understand)
    Or
whether MA/DL read about it in the papers.
in which case, there would be NO WAY they would consider him again.

I would love to see him come to Newcastle, he’s just what we need, pace and abilitie to score great goals. I know he chose qpr over us but we all know money talks. Whether Cashley would pay the wages he wants would be a big question! Just hope we get top striker through the door with pace who ever he is in the summer.
