Pardew – We Had Two Or Three Big Chances At 1-0

The Newcastle manager Alan Pardew was very rightly proud of his players after the game tonight – after his Newcastle United side put in a courageous and gutsy performance,  and we got very close to winning it 2-0.  Newcastle were 1-0 ahead after 71 minutes and  had the chances to go 2-0 up – but we just couldn’t get that second all important goal.

Alan Pardew – being interviewed after the game

But two minutes into stoppage time Benfica broke away and scored – and 1-1 didn’t tell the story of this game – and you can hardly blame Newcastle for surging forward in stoppage time, because if we didn’t score a second goal, we were out in any case.

A very proud Alan Pardew had this to say after the game tonight to Ned Boulting of ITV:

“They are a good side – you can’t let them get a lead against you.” “In the first half we kept it tight and looked to nick a goal – and almost did that before half-time.”

“We had two or three big chances at 1-0, but you can’t ask for anything more from the crowd, the players.” “You’ve got to respect the opposition – technically they are a superb side.”

“I am so proud of the performance – we couldn’t have done any more.” “We’ve got some very good players – when we get them all back we’ve got a very good side.”

Alan is right that we have some great players,  and we only need two or three top players in the summer, and keep our players fitter next season, but that should be easier with the few games we’ll play, and we can be pushing for another top six position in the Premier League, and hopefully back into Europe the season after next.

That has to be the goal for next season.

And next time in Europe we will have hopefully learned that you cannot have a small squad when you have European games – and we had 14 of them this season.

And considering the injuries Newcastle have had this season – the lads did fantastically well in Europe.

Now to hammer Sunderland on Sunday.

i acknowledge the fact that their are better managers out their than pardew …. ..

but from what he has had to work with with all the injuries and ba leaving he has been trying… regardless of his mistakes and bad luck at times…

the only thing i can do is get behind my team…

There is no disputing our line up with all players back is a top side. Just hope we can hang on to all of them barring Colo who looks like he’ll be off.

Haidara has the potential to take Santon’s place next season. Great going forward and strong and fast in defence.

I’ve supported TOOON for best part of 50 years, through all kinds of shit. Tonight, we gave it out best shot, against one of the best sides in the competition, and they just managed to scrape through.

I’m proud of my team and fully expect them to shaft the scum on Sunday!!

Anyone want two top tickets for the Europa final? lol

Understand one thing mate, I’m no Pardew lover, but I’m also intelligent enough to understand that spouting off every day on a bloody blog isn’t going to change anything other than drive me to despair.

You constantly call for Pardew’s head as if you actually think that Ashley’s going to hear you and change the manager (funny how you never put up a realistic replacement though).

99% of us would replace him IF we could find the right man but we are not the owners of the club and we understand that sitting in our arm chairs calling for his head and slagging him and the players off will change absolutely nothing

i would have dropped this silly formation he is playing

    cisse is alone upfront

marv would have started for me, playing left side

cabaye would play higher up the pitch, prob behind cisse

    sissoko on the right

bigi in his DMC position with anita somewhere around him linking up,

jonas would not have been on the pitch

Yawn…the usual tripe on here I see. I could have written the responses to this game from so many people on here. Its all very well saying sack Pardew but in a many number of years how many good managers have we got in? Why would it be any different this time? The starting lineup was always going to get some flack from the Pardew bashers but I think how open we were when we had most our attacking options on showed Pardew’s thinking.

So your saying you wont swap bramble and cuellar for mbiwa and taylor. Haha we got rid of bramble for a reason.

The only player i see at sunderland that posseses a bit of quality (which is extremely rare) is danny rose and guess what hes on loan. Haha i bet he cant wait to leave!

To everyone who’s is crazily saying that we should have attacked from the start…. please realise these few facts.
    1. The only advantage that we had going for us was the away goal.
    2. If Benfica also got an away goal, the tie was over.
    3. You can count on one hand the number of clean sheets we have had playing even moderately attacking football over 90 minutes this season.
    4. They were on a 30+ game unbeaten run.
    5. The only team to successfully do what we needed to do to win against, them was Barca-fuckin-lona.

Very proud of pardew, and even prouder of haidara for the way he came back without even skipping a beat, from his horrific injury.

Good game tonight! Unlucky not to go through in the end. Can’t fault that second half performance really.
Great that Ben Arfa got a few mins under his belt and looked sharp if a little porgy.
We have absolutely got to go with Debuchy, Haidara, Marveaux and Ben Arfa on Sunday, they just flow and would absolutely destroy Sunderland. If we line up defensive I’m going to have a hard time defending Pardew.

The fact is Bramble was shite 7 years ago! Brown and O’Shea are just awful, Johnson has shown how overrated he is this season, Cattermole is slow, clumsy and dirty, Gardner is average, Larsson is ok and Fletcher is decent. The only good players at Sunderland are Sessegnon and Mignolet. That is it. Even Sessegnon only turns up once a month.
