I suppose if you are trying to look for some positives coming out of the unbelievable loss to Sunderland today – it’s that the Newcastle players will be motivated in the final five games of the season to redeem themselves in the eyes of Newcastle fans.
Mike Ashley – will not be pleased with this result
Because like it or not the players that played today will always be remembered for being part of the game they lost 3-0 at St. James’ Park, and it will go down in the history of Newcastle, that’s just the way it will be.
We’ve heard all the stuff about being unlucky and we missed chances – but we’ve been missing chances all year – and we find it very difficult to score – and it hasn’t helped that we didn’t replace Demba Ba in January either.
But we are not thinking of the summer at all right now – Newcastle have too much work to do in the last five games of the season, and unless we start picking up points we could be in trouble.
If Wigan can get 3 points in their two games in hand, we’ll be just 2 points above the drop zone, and our goal difference is now only a little better than that of Wigan.
So there’s work to be done in the next five weeks – and we must be in the Premier League next season.

Comment #41I haven’t commented for awhile now, tried to give chance to AP and his lovers to prove me wrong with new improved squad.
The results says it all. Even if we have Messi, Ronaldo, Rooney, Kagawa etc. we will still be in relegation dog fight under AP.
We were scoring 5-1, 6-1, 6-0 under Houghton with lesser quality squad than we have now. It’s been 2.5 season and we scored 4 goals max in 2 matches and managed to concede 7 goals in 1 match.
Houghton and Norwich is above us now and they play better football with less quality players.
I’m voting to sack AP at the end of the season, maybe we could get Ancelotti or Lippi.

Comment #42Too much doom and gloom in here .. Chill guys
I see Pards haters took over lol
but its understandable after the shameful result of yesterday
Now I don’t know about you guys, but I have the believe that our players can step up and produce in the coming games
In my opinion, last game was sort of a special case as it was the derby. unusual things happen in those games
I still believe in the manager, but I can’t help but to feel that our coaching staff needs some serious upgrading. Players seem to take too long to improve in our club. I would love to see some investments in that department asap

Comment #44It’s more difficult for Cabaye to play his through-balls when he spends most of the game 10 yards in his own half. Way too deep. Considering the opposition, the scoreline & performance was the most embarrasing derby match I have ever witnessed. I watched the match sitting next to a Wigan fan and he was willing us to win but said after an hour, “watching Newcastle is like watching paint dry”.
Guti pi55ed-off playing out of position.
Sissoko told to “just go out and play in midfield” – feel sorry for the lad.
No. 23 – just a waste of space – simple as. 2 new strikers in summer urgently required to keep this lazy tw*t away from 1st team.
Marv – should play behind Cisse – just give him the ball, man!
Tiote – WTF has happened to him? (Pardew Factor?) Shocking player all season.
Manager consistently appears to be clueless but I am still interested to see what he can do next season with no crap excuses, i.e. too tired after cup games / injuries / bad luck / players out of position / more injuries, etc, etc, etc.
If a new manager does come in, it will mean big changes in personnel = more financial outlay.

not necessarily, just look at Pochentino and Soton.
We have excellent squad, but crap manager. With the same crap manager, you still spend more money in transfer next season, but the outcome still the same.

Comment #46For those that opposed mine and several other’s view on how sh1te Tiote was back in January, have your opinions changed yet?
Perch and Anita are far superior to Tiote this season. It’s simple fact, why tiote gets the nod is simply beyond me. Logicically you play with your best performing players. Not the players with fancy names and under perform on a consistent basis..
Ship him out in the summer. We don’t need him anymore.

Exactly. The point is trying to make competition for a position in the first 11.
What’s the point now? They play better, but still can’t make it into starting line up. This can effect the youngsters mentality, they worked hard and played well, but they won’t get the opporturnity.

Comment #49As for Guttierez starting at Left back…. words escape me.
You have two players on the bench, one a specialized left back. Granted just came back from injury and played on thursday,
and a versatile player that has played in left back several times in the past and on many occasions done a splendid job defensively.
Then there is Gutti. A workhorse that can’t tackle. A 5 year old could see which option was better for Left Back.
Shola on for Gouffran?. Your joking me right? Goofy was a threat in the first half. Shola was a giant waste of space in the second half.
P1SS poor decision making from Pardew yesterday. He has to do better.

Comment #50Sir Bobby is an International Manager with titles under his name.
He manage International players and knows more of a quality players and understanding them. He is open minded in football and have seen alot through international experiences and exposure.
That already gives you alot of things in terms of oversea players recognition and the ways to approach games be it Eurp or league.
For KK, he himself is an attacker, he knows (only) how to attack and his phowsphy

Exactly, I made this point back in January. Just after Anita had a run of games recently with Tiote Injured, and Perch as well having a run of games. Both putting in several MoM performances and playing well on a consistent basis.
Calamity Tiote comes back from Injury and ACON, after half-arsed performances for us in the games he has played and walks back into the team. Yet I see several people, saying he deserves to. What has Tiote done this season that justifies him walking into the team?. Absolutely nothing. Pardew and Co. should stop being blinded by past merit and look at the bare truth. Tiote is simply not good enough to deserve starting for us in current form. That has been the fact for the majority of the season.
Said it before the game, I wanted Perch ahead of tiote.

Comment #54Okay, first time on since yesterday, I spent most of post match too annoyed, or responding to mackem mates who were quite rightly sticking the boot in while I was down.
Insipid display, and downright embarrassing. I will sick to my pre match statement of I wouldn’t swap any of our starting 11 for anyone in theirs. And yet, the far better team won, and sadly, 3-0 didn’t flatter.
So, where did it go wrong? Pardew, maybe in part, but it was much more than just that. Tiredness, no chance, half the team didn’t play on Thursday, and even if they did, they are professional athletes, and it is the same time difference between playing Weds and Sat, you don’t hear Champions League clubs claim tiredness.
We spent far too much of the game backing off. All of their goals came from our defenders retreating until we were in our box. By that time Sunderland had dispatched a shot that flew in. Is it a tactic to back off? Is it a lack of trust in their covering team mates? Or a lack of confidence in themselves? It is simple to do, you stand up to the man, and they either have to prove they are good and beat you, or they pass.
Guti at fullback? I said on Friday, that I expected him to start, but at left back, when we have a left back who has looked very good since arriving on the bench? Very questionable decision.
Marveaux on the right wing for the first 70 mins? Utterly baffling. I don’t see him as a winger anyway, but to play him on the right was odd. Compounded by Pardew when he switched to 442 after conceding the first goal, and Socks went wide left with Marveaux on the right. Very strange decision.
Cabaye looks to be carrying a knock. I said it on Thursday he didn’t look fit, he was limping slightly that game, and again yesterday. If players are injured, don’t play them.
Finally, did anyone see the pictures of HBA at full time? He had a massive grin on his face as he chatted with Di Canio and a Sunderland player. I certainly couldn’t think of anything to smile at by that point.
Lots of Pardew out calls, but I have failed to see a sensible replacement posted yet. If we can get someone better in, great. Personally, I’d look at people like Matthaus, Bilic, Solskjaer. Someone who has pedigree playing at the top level, is working in top level, but smaller European leagues.
We have lots of work to do in the remaining games. If we perform like that, we are in serious trouble.

Comment #55…For KK, he himself is an attacker, he knows (only) how to attack and his philosophy was always to attack be it weaker or stronger teams. We just out do the scoreline, thats it.
During that time, we could have done a ManCity.
He was just out do by the crafty Alex Ferguson in terms of approaching games.
Tbf, there are still plaer lacking in some positions and will it be too late to judge pardew by then.
What can we get by appointing Alan Pardew, is still a question. Is it Baca style of passing football? (I doubt), Real Madrid Style of attacking football? (I doubt) ManUtd Style of mix of play? (Not really, or not yet?)
Well, we’ll have to wait and see if the players that Alan Pardew requested arrived on Tyneside and properly the best time to judge him was 2nd half of next season when all players (currently) have a season with with him.
By then there should be an improvement. In terms of play.

For me, Beattie has it right up above. Anita in for Tiote, he has the intelligence to sit when our full backs attack Tiote doesn’t do that. Perch probably has the know how to do it, but I think Anita is the classier player and will give us more on the ball as well.
However, Tiote wasn’t terrible yesterday, he wasn’t good, but no one in the side was. I don’t know whether he was instructed to, or it happened naturally, but Tiote seemed to be further forward than Cabaye a lot of the time. That is senseless. If it was Cabaye isn’t 100% fit, leave im out, don’t make Tiote try to do his job. If he wasn’t instructed to be further forward, then he was mindlessly roving out of position, and should have been told exactly that.
He does annoy me when he tries to shoot from distance though, it worked once, just stop.

Comment #58As for Pardew saying he will make sure the players are hurting, he shouldn’t need to. If you aren’t angry and hurting after losing 3-0 to a side around you in the table, let alone your massive local rivals, you can leave the club this summer, and I hope the door catches you on the way out.

Comment #60It would be great if we could get a better manager, but can we?… Most of the candidates you people are listing dont sound that great to me, I even saw a few fools suggest Keegan?!?! Im not sure if thats sentimental or just mental. If we could get someone like Laudrup, which isnt that unrealistic as its being made out to be, then great, but otherwise, be carefull what you wish for, we might have the better of two evils, it migth be JFK returning. I hope not, I have grown to like our owner and respect the way he is trying to take us to the next level in a sensible way, but the one thing he is still to prove to me is that he can get a manager decision right.

Yeah, lots of Pardew out calls, very few replacements mentioned. And if anyone was mentioning KK seriously as a replacement they need to lay off those herbal pipes. KK wouldn’t even be considered again by the current regime, due to his last spell and acrimonious departure. Not only that, he is a spent force and I very much doubt he would want to manage again.

I said before and I will say it again, I don’t believe Pardew is going anywhere until this campaign is over and I still believe that is the right decision. We have 5 games left to play, now we need to unite and re-evaluate in the summer imo. I don’t care who is right or wrong.

Comment #72I’m going to stick my neck out on this blog and say i blame the players more than Pardew. Can anyone name a player yesterday who played well – or even ok? No-one was up to the standard we have come to expect of them. We had plenty of time with the “dream team” of Marveaux + Benny on the pitch and achieved little. Mapou and Taylor were pulled about too much. The only change I would have made to the starting 11 would be to have played Haidara at LB and Guti up – perhaps left Goufran or Tiote on the bench (my personal opinion, I accept) – but otherwise the team was as good on paper as it could have been. Everybody had an off-day and we have to hope they can get it out of their system. Just bloody depressing that they had to do it against the Mackems.

Comment #74magpie….Those are my thoughts on yesterday and whilst I’ll accept Pardew is in charge of them and it’s part of his job to get them motivated I cannot accept that performance from our players. It was pathetic.
What I will ask about Pardew yesterday is why he didn’t do more to try and stir them up a bit more from the touchline. We were sloppy and they needed some waking up.
No fight or desire yesterday.

I’m hoping the posters and the atmosphere is slightly better today than some of the joke posts from yesterday!?
I’ve read all sorts;
Sell sissoko as he is overrated.
Cabaye is playing poorly to try and force a move,
Yanga is a terrbile player unworthy of the shirt
Krul has cost us this season with mistakes and long kicks up field.
I struggle to read all that and not post a rant in reply, but it would fall on deaf ears.
Whilst im devastated by the loss, I always try to find a positive, and the fact that stoke lost, and nobody around us took 3 points is something.

Carver and Pardew have said before on radio interviews on Radio Newcastle that Pardew does the defensive coaching whilst Carver does the attacking.
For me, no matter how much Carver gets to work on attacking, the players will have in their minds that they dare not uphold Pardew’s side as ultimately they wont get in the team. So the mindset of the players will most likely be based around “I better not push too far forward on this attack cos if I don’t get back in time, Pardew will be pulling me up for it later (and they may lose their place).” I’m not saying that this is all the time but it will certainly have a bearing on players’ outlooks.
Even in the Fulham game when we were breaking, most of the players were too far back to make any sort of impression going forward. Give it to Sissoko and watch him run with it, with Cisse being the other person in attack.
All this is strategy, coaching and tactics, not the abililties of our INTERNATIONAL players.
As I said last night on here, Di Canio said he wanted to see 4 or 5 players in the opposition box when they attack. That is his philosophy and I counted those exact players numerous times when they attacked us yesterday.
Tactics and coaching aren’t just about formations given either verbally or in diagrams. Coaching players is how to successfully and practically show/get the players to fulfill philosophies and aims of the manager.
What I see each week, is the system in use is not at all suited to the players we have. You need to maximise players in their correct positions. Sissoko and Marveaux on the wings yesterday? Cisse 2/3rds of the season on the wing? Ridiculous. That as most people can see, is just the tip of the ice berg, never mind the sitting back when a goal ahead, long balls etc.
I wasn’t advocating a sacking even a couple of weeks ago, and he should definitily see out the season, but I think right now Ashley should be sounding Carr out as to which manager could get the best out of all these players. He doesn’t really have anyone else to confide in who is qualified and relevant I wouldn’t have thought.
