It’s Sunday, so there are a number of stories in the Sunday papers that are about some of Newcastle’s top players wanted by other clubs.
Ben Arfa in action on Thursday against Benfica
The story in the Sunday People today – and yes – it’s getting just a bit stale these days – is that Liverpool would like to tempt Newcastle in swapping Geordie Andy Carroll for Frenchman Hatem Ben Arfa.
Apparently the People is reporting that Liverpool were interested in the Newcastle winger in January, when he was out injured with his hamstring injury.
The Newcastle officials are said to have told Liverpool in January, that they were wasting their time, and that the French International was simply not for sale.
And only yesterday Ben Arfa himself was interviewed and said he has no intention of leaving Newcastle, which he called a great club.
And of course Ben Arfa is simply adored by the Geordie fans – he’s that kind of player – and has unbelievable skills.
Of course Ben Arfa will have his price, but we think owner Mike Ashley will ensure that price for the French mercurial winger is much more than Liverpool are be willing to pay.
But of course if they come in and bid £35M in cool cash – then it could be a deal – maybe.
Since joining Newcastle from Marseilles in the summer of 2010 – initially on loan – Ben Arfa has played 50 times for Newcastle with 10 (great) goals and 10 assists.
What do you think?
