Who Was The Man Of The Match Against Sunderland?

2:04 pm, Sunday, April 14th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 128 Comments

Sunderland_2

Let us know who you think was the Man of the Match against Sunderland today in what was a complete and utter shocking defeat for Newcastle.

Sunderland won the game 3-0 – that’s our worst home defeat of the season, and it puts Newcastle right back into the relegation dogfight – this is the worst result of the season for Newcastle.

And just to make things even worse – Tim Krul was injured and replaced by Rob Elliot – Tim has a shoulder injury – so we are still not safe from relegation is the bottom line after this dreadful defeat.

I will start by saying I know part of the managers job is to fire up his players, but wtf were our lads doing today?

No one seemed to care at all. Absolutely no pressure or positioning. Pathetic in the extreme and whilst I know many will lay this solely down to Pardew, or at least apportion most of the blame at him, do we really think the instruction was “Now, don’t pressure them, give them loads of room and where you can don’t be goal side, let them have a crack at goal”.

    Absolutely gutted by that display.

Also have to say, those were three lovely taken goals, even given the amount of time they were given to take the bloody things. Fair play.

Sorry for the caps, please read and dare question if what I am saying is wrong

“I DONT KNOW WHY WE CANNOT BLAME PARDEW? AT THE END OF THE DAY THE PLAYERS ARE FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS OF PARDEW AND THE FORMATION OTHERWISE THE PLAYERS WOULD PLAY ANYWHERE. THE THING IS PARDEW NEEDS TO GO, HIS TACTICAL NEGATIIVITY HAS SINKED INTO THE CLUB AND YOU COULD SEE FROM JONAS’S FACE THAT HE DIDNT WANT TO PLAY LB BUT PARDEW FORCED HIM OR HE WAS GOING TO GET DROPPED. PARDEW IS AT FAULT, HE NEEDS TO GO HE ADDS NOTHING BUT NEGATIVITY AND ANYONE QUESTIONS OTHERWISE WELL WHAT CAN YOU QUESTION? AS PARDEW IS THE MANAGER HERE AND WE HAVE NOT SCORED ONE SET PIECE, CORNER IN OUR WHOLE CAREER WITH PARDEW. WE AIMED IT AT WILLIAMSON IN BENFICA JUST LIKE WE USED TO AND WE AIM IT TO STEVEN TAYLOR HOPING FOR A GOAL. THE WHOLE STAFF NEEDS TO GET CHECKED AND SACKED. THE MEDICAL, ASSISTANT, YOUTH HEAD COACH EVERYONE. ANOTHER INJURY TODAY TO KRUL WE ARE F**KED!!”

  • 3 valle // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:10 PM

The only thing more pathetic than fans screaming for Hughton to come back is fans screaming for Keegan to come back and know absolutely nothing about football… I love CH, he is as nice a guy as anyone in football, but he wouldnt improve us and nor would KK. If we are to improve, we nee to bring someone in with fresh ideas and an attacking mentallity, only problem is, I dunno who could imrpove us who would actually wanna come here. I love the way our club is run, but managers tend to want loads of money and to sign their own players.

  • 4 No Plain Saylor // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Wow. Im tempted to say it was against th run of play, because in fairness we had more ball, more shots. Three crackin goals but. I think if that gimp of a linesman hadn’t disallowed Cisse’s goal which would have made it 1-1 at the time, things may have been very different, we had all the momentum at the time. And within minutes we were two down. The linesman was lookin Cueller in the back of the head, surely he saw him i mean wtf?! Also this is meant to be the one game Shola shows up, no. And whilst this is not Pardews fault at all, decent team out, started well.. you can’t be taking Cabaye off unless he’s injured or we were winning, he’s too important. This season with Cabaye = 40+% games won. Without Cabaye = 18% Games Won. Bear in mind for all you commenting, the game just ended, we were humiliated, simple as. So you’re obviously flustered, but some of the comments on the last post made me laugh.. We need Demba Ba back? F#ck Demba Ba the greedy gobshite. And those of you expecting Pardew to resign today? haha go back on your meds.

  • 5 toonbrother // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:11 PM

Even ordinary fans could see Sissoko did not belong in the withdrawn striker role despite his exploits vs chelsea. Same way ordinary fans could see Jonas would be a liability in defence. The minute ordinary fans can see things the coach cannot see is the minute said coach has to go. Pardumb is like gangrene infecting this club with his mediocrity. Only way to move forward is to have him amputated from the club

  • 6 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:11 PM

As if I’m voting on this. Maybe Krul or Elliot as to be honest, can’t fault them for the goals imo and they do make some other big stops.

There, one slight positive, GK’s. FFS, today hasn’t turned out well.

  • 7 Newcastle for alltid // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

Why do we pump high crosses into the box when we haven’t scored from a corner in ages? Play along the ground ffs! Make the opposition chase you! It has come to the point where I’m not looking forward to our games any longer, as we’re putting shackles on some great talents. Oh my, what could’ve been…..

  • 8 newcastle10 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

That was absolutely SHOCKING!! we are going backwards under Pardew he does not know how to get the best out of the players that we have.all he does is play long ball bypassing our creative midfield players. what kind of a manager plays a centre defensive midfielder left wing its absolutely disgracefull!! we have no spark in the way we play. we cannot score from set pieces we cannot create chances for our stikers and we cannot link up play which begs me to question what we do on the training field. and as for the defence very poor. look at southampton they changed their manager they improved same with sunderland. we need a manager that goes to win games. he plays cabaye far too deep he would be more benefical further up the field with sissoko dropping back. if pardew was managing barcelona he would have them mid table. PARDEW OUT i hope ashley was at the game today. selling out 156 k in 3 games we deserve way better then that crap we are getting on the field. and for the people blaming the players pardew is the one that sets out the players he motivates them and tells them what they should do pardew has to go

  • 9 SBergenwall // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

No one.. A total lack of desire and passion from the lads today.

  • 10 No Plain Saylor // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

  • 11 seasons // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

not a single outfield player turned up today. all very poor. motivation is something that is’nt needed in these games as they all know whats at stake

  • 12 daztoon // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:12 PM

    @Ibizatoon
weve backed off all season mate we never go to the player or ball so Pardew and the coaching staff are doing something wrong

  • 13 valle // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Turkishfan… I can onlt answer for myself, but no I wont read it even if you make an excuse for the caps, in fact the only part of your message I read for that first line with that excuse since you managed to write that without caps… Writing in all caps just make you seem childish mate, so think twice next time.

Very concerned. It’s obvious that we’ve got a problem in attack. We need 3 new strikers urgently.

Players like Alderweireld won’t want to come to us now.

Cabaye and Tiote can slash off in the summer. They can go to Man Utd for £30m as hey aren’t good enough for us.

We missed Santon and Colocini today.

  • 16 josh // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:13 PM

Chosing a vote between this bunch of knobs is like chosing whether you want hitler of robert mugabe in power. F**k right off.

  • 17 Jonny // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Players fault, not Pardrew. Sissoko, debuchy, mbiwa and goufrann are either seriously over rated or just haven’t got started yet cause the French boys have done nothing for me so far.

  • 18 kevymartins // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:14 PM

@Valle look were norwich is in the league table. If he can do that with the quality he has I wonder what he could do with the quality we have …Why did he even get sacked in the first place? ooh that’s right pardrew was ashleys gambling and bum buddy.

  • 19 geordie157 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:14 PM

Time for big Andy to return and add some passion to the side!!!!

Bring in Sakho to partner Mbiwa as Taylor was all over the place first half.

I’m aware it earns you money, but give it a rest.

  • 22 Big Pappa Cissé // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Pardew needs to go. Some results this season were hard to take but this takes the cake. I wager any other PL manager could get more out of our team and on paper the starting 11 should have crushed sunderland today however Pardum somehow manages to get them comfartably beaten FFS. Prepare for the excuse train

    “We was tired”
“we was on the bad end of decisions’

How about taking the blame for hoofball tactics you moron. The guy has to go

  • 23 toonbrother // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:15 PM

Hughton would be a massive improvement on Pardumb. Why? Because he’s clever enough not to believe his own hype and employs common sense based strategies. He may not have the gift of the gab needed to impress fat cats like Ashley but he’s effective where it counts- coaching and motivating the team!

  • 24 toonking // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:15 PM

it has been the same all season
cabaye a CDM when he prefers attacking cisse wide then alone up front with no one to help him marvo not getting started until the last few games hadaira still being left on the bench when he is showing signs of a good FB tiote who is such a bad liability still worth starting the widemen not able to crete chances sissoko just because of 1 good game now is classed as a forward when he is a DM.

  • 25 martoon // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Very upset but you can’t really blame Pardew, he picked the team most people would have started. It was one of those games where we had no luck, good goals given offside and everything they hit ended up in the corner of the net.

  • 26 JDdubai // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Ok firstly we are all angry, hurting, embarrassed etc but lets try not to argue like children shall we…..

For me, another poor game. As a 1-off you could argue 3 great finishes from them, disallowed goal for us to equalise, luck not with us…

But there hasnt been a game this season where we dominated, only chelsea home where we looked like a top 6 team. Cant think of any 90minute performance from us this year at all….

A team with so many creative, skillful players, and such a lack of idea around the box, pass and move not really fluent. To be outclassed today by their players is a joke, on paper we are streets ahead of them and yet we didnt transfer that to the pitch.

All season we havent been a fluent, attacking team. Our europa games, especially all the group games were horrrendous to watch, sneaking 1-0′s against very poor sides. Please if you have a romantic tinted picture of how we played, just re-watch them somehow.

Last season, first half we got results but again, there werent too many top performances, lots of luck went our way as we know. Second half of the season and thins look up, cabaye in the hole, HBA on fire, Cisse scoring from anywhere. Promising.

But to return to this level of performance this season, and it is all season sadly, im sorry but we can bring in all the purple players you like but if the management team cant get them playing well enough then that needs to be looked at.

Was also thinking, who on our coaching team is qualified to teach them how to play the continental way? If this is the way we want to play, has steve stone ever done it? John carver, who i love and think he is essential to us, he was a number 2 to Bobby where we played 442 with wingers and bellamy and shearer up front, wasnt too much continental style pass and move there. Pardew himself has no experience of this hat i know, so how do they expect to teach it when they havent experienced it themselves???

Just think if we want to keep pards, then resign AC and play tahat way with correct players, 2 wingers, sissoko in the middle, sell cabaye and go all in. If we want the 4231 stuff then need to look at the coaching coz even bringing in PEA or whoever wont change the way we play.

    Im off to cry now.

  • 28 brighter // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

ED please make a ‘none ‘ in a poll.
We were all shit today. But all responsibility of losing out the game to Guierrezs passing the ball.
And English refree is done a invalidity desicion again .Maybe we may have a wortless to watch the Premier League.

  • 29 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Cabaye and Tiote are so overrated, it’s unreal. We would’ve got better results with Anita and Marveaux in the starting line-up.

They have to leave the club.

  • 30 El Tino // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

1)main positive was marveaux. he can play on the wing as ppl have doubted in the past and is prob our best player.

2)all 3 goals were frm outside the box, which is rare.
3)linesman robbed us of at least a draw.

Time to put sissoko in his favoured position in the middle in a viera position. Pards tactic of sissoko off cisse as a support striker has been worked out. gouffran was taken off too early. shola was useless. should ve been marv, benny, gouffran behind cisse.
GUTIERREZ IS NOT UNDROPPABLE. THE GUY COVERED AROUND 10KM on THU and was played out of position. Was to blame for 1st goal.
time to bring in some new coaches as we dont have enough. some spanish or brazillian attacking coaches would be good.
taylor is good but we need another centreback to take his place, who is good in the air 6ft4 plus and can score goals. we ve had the least amount of goals from defenders according to opta stats. Need to work on sissokos heading.
Would like to see us sign DIAME , REMY OR AUBEMAYANG as well as a samba/sakho, douglas type beast.
Imagine coming up against tiote, sissoko and diame.

  • 31 Mag.no // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

Not Parsdews fault? Must be irony!
Had one or two players had a day off, ok… players fault, but a whole f*****n team? That’s goes much deeper than a players.

I don’t like Di Canio at all as a person, but i would love have him as manager over Pardew. We would at least try to attack with more than one players in the box.

  • 32 seasons // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

as for turkishfan. 5th last year, attacking football, into europe, quarter finals this year. yeah fair play we’ve been shocking in the league but thats purely down to pardew who’s decided to get himself sacked after being voted manager of the year

  • 33 ajcrawfs // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:16 PM

All their goals were against the run of play catching us on the break. I blame Tiote mostly as the back four were left completely open, should be playing Perch as tiote is god awful at the moment

  • 35 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:17 PM

That PEA isn’t that great. Remy would be the perfect signing.

  • 36 bills-son // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:17 PM

    I agree with Ibiza @ 1.

The better team won simple as that and they wanted the win more than our players did.

Cisse’s goal was balanced out by Taylor not having a penalty against him and we could have had another two pens against us and Goofy sent off.

Pardew put an attacking team out and we got beat by a team with more fight and three cracking strikes that they are unlikely to repeat in one match for a long time.

Sh1t happens and it happened against us today.

  • 37 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:17 PM

No Plain…I can go along with that to some extent. I do feel our biggest downfall was applying some pressure. Gave them way too much time and way too little respect. It’s one thing for fans to shout their mouths off about how easy a game it should be, the players can’t be that relaxed about it.

  • 38 bills-son // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:19 PM

Ketsbaia – Marv was in the starting line up. Did you watch the game?

  • 39 BandB // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:19 PM

We set up against Sunderland as if they were Benfica.
As I said two weeks ago, all that does is encourage out-of-form teams (like Sunderland) to gain confidence and have a go at us.
There was never any evidence in the way we are playing for the surge up the table to eighth.
I saw us safe, but only by a couple of points. And that was predicated on us winning today.
We have London clubs coming up, where we traditionally under-perform. And the “you-just-KNOW-it’s-going-to-happen” prospect of the Fat Sam and ‘Arry doing a victory shuffle.
    Ditto Liverpool.
We are in trouble lads. And “We are the TOON, we are the TOON!, aggressiveness isn’t going to make anyone but yourself feel better.
If we keep setting up like this, we’ll go down.
    Pardew, or the club?
    The club.

  • 40 peaco1980 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Amazed anyone voted for Guti. Amazed too that in the space of a couple of weeks, a mad italian can do something that Pardew has singularly failed to do in months; produce a fluent display of football. Do us a favour Alan and HOOF your way back to Croydon.

  • 41 Dennis Twice // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

  • 42 Assam Toon // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

If Pardew cannot be fired, can he be gagged temporarily? Tired of his big mouth…he talks like as if he is fergie or mourinho and comes up with deplorable performances…has he apologised at all this season?

  • 43 Beattie25 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

5 games left and we have West Brom, Liverpool, QPR, West Ham and Arsenal!

If today indicates how this team plays under pressure then we might as well throw in the towel!

As mad as it sounds I think we should get rid of Pardew now and bring in a coach to try and help us escape! It might be suicide but I have now lost all faith that we can escape the black hole that is relegation!

These players need a kick up the arse and Pardew is failing everyone one of them and us!

You can say the players this or injuries that but everything comes down onto the managers shoulders and it is HIS responsibility to overcome all hurdles and make every team he sends out a team that goes to win!

Forget the fact it was a derby, this was a relegation 6 pointer that turned into our biggest home defeat against a team in the bottom 4 and haven’t won in something like 10 games.

  • 44 matias // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Marveaux and Krul the only ones who didn`t do much wrong.

Wonder what`s happened to some of our stars. Cabaye`s been very poor in recent weeks. Sissoko seems to have lost the magic of his first games. Even HBA was very ordinary today. We need to see him in a game we aren`t chasing after. Tiote was unvisible but that`s not necessarily a bad thing in his case :)

Pardew was MOTM against Benfica but today he didn`t seem to have any kind of system to our play.

  • 45 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:20 PM

Daz…Sorry, don’t agree. It has been a big problem for us this season, but it hasn’t been all season. We have shown under Pardew that we can play a decent game of pressing football. We saw it just the other day.

I accept some of this is going to be down to Pardew and his instruction, that has to be expected, but our players really let us down today, far more than Pardew ever has imo.

  • 49 nufcusa // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:21 PM

Poor defending cost is today. We were poor but have create less chances and won games this season.

Made no sense not to play Haidara, at least in 2nd half when it was clear first half tactics were not working. Shola was the wrong sub. Made everything to predictable.

Haidara for Jonas/gouffran and the one who survived in front of him would of allowed us to stretch the field and create space in the middle for cabaye and sissoko.

We know we have more talented players but simply do not play to their
    strengths

  • 56 NewcastleMole // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:22 PM

GK’s to one side the best outfield player was a difficult one.

Gutierrez is only player i saw who had that passion for the game. How many Free kicks/corners did he win us? He gave 120% in not his natural position. Yeah he did lose the ball often but who didn’t?

    —————————————————————–

Tactics and team setup are to blame once more.
4-2-3-1 ive said many times does not suit our players.
Debuchy, Tiote, Taylor & Goufran didn’t play on Thursday so it’s quite thought provoking that they played quite shocking at times.

  • 57 toonbrother // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:23 PM

@ajcrawfs i thought tiote had an anonymous game which is unlike him. He may give fouls away from time to tim but he never shies away from making a tackle. It may seem after the fact but i was amazed to see him starting such a crucial match after an injury lay off. He was either going to misjudge tackles or overcompensate by avoiding them. But i ask you who’s decision was it to start him today over Perch? Yup you gueessed it

  • 58 magfly // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:23 PM

  • 59 davis_toons // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:23 PM

Pardew should manage STOKE. Its more suited for him and his theory.

  • 60 Jarralad // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:23 PM

I can honestly say that I have never seen in my lifetime a more lacklustre against the mackems than that! I cannot think of a single player that showed the passion required to play in this derby!

Perhaps all of the pundits that predicted our foreign-based side would lack commitment and the passion to compete in this game were right after all

Shameful performance from our side, I expect Tayls will apologise whenever SKY decide to show the after-match interviews, but the more apologetic response should come from Pardew…only he can explain why his team did not turn up for this game..and I hope he is honest in his assessment and apologise to the whole Geordie nation for that, simply appalling performance!

  • 61 JDdubai // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:24 PM

We werent robbed, anyone saying hat is in denial…mackem sould have had a penalty in first half, arguably at least 1 or 2 in the second, gouffran tackle could have been a red too.

1 offside decision doesnt change the fact that they deserved it.

Like i said, its not just today’s result that is the issue, things can happen on any given sunday, but its been all season. Its not just one of those things, its been about 40 of those things now…

  • 62 toonheroes // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:24 PM

I just think we look disjointed going forward. There is no fluency. How many times this season have we scored more than 1 goal in a game? We just flap about when we get in the opposition box, utter sheite.

  • 63 El Tino // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:24 PM

our first team has internationals in every position. why are we struggling to beat fulham etc and losing to mackems?????????????

  • 64 valle // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:24 PM

Kevy… I dont beleive that gamling buddy thing one bit. CH was sacked because player power had taken over and he couldnt sort it. They refused to sign the bonus deal MA and ruthless as MA is he removed anyone who he taught might have anything to do with that. As I said earlier though, CH is a good guy, but im afraid he just lack that dicipline needed in a club like ours. We need someone with passion who can take us to the next level, which imo involves a short passing game and an attacking mindset. I have know idea who would come who ticks those boxes though, so over to you Mike.

  • 70 LGFUAD21 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:25 PM

Also, would have no objection if Cisse was sold. He is not our number 9.

Scores some fantastic and important goals. But we can’t afford to be playing a lone striker that disappears for 90% of the time.

W can’t score goals and it adds pressure to our defence.

Moussa is not a forward player. He is a box to box mid. Played as a forward he runs into player too often.

Marveaux and hba are miles ahead of th rest of the team when it comes to creativity. They actually play into space rather than running into traps.

Would rather Shola be up top with Gouffran, Cabaye or Marveaux playing just off him.

4-2-3-1 i have been saying all season this is what has caused us such a bad season.
4-3-3 is the way it should have stayed or go a 4-1-3-2 because that way the forward is not going to be left alone and the attacking midfielders are not going to be over run it is when you only have 2 plays getting forward that it is so hard to score which was just how we aare playing ATM as cisse and marvo are the only two going forward cabaye who usually is forward now plays deep sissoko is not keep on his forward position while gouffran is way out on the other side.

  • 81 TurkishFan101 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:28 PM

Ok sorry for the caps I will retype it on a serious note and really want you’s to read and reply thanks.

I dont know why we cannot blame pardew? At the end of the day the players are following the instructions of pardew and the formation otherwise the players would play anywhere. The thing is pardew needs to go, his tactical negativity has sincked into the club and you could see from jonas’s face that he didn’t want to play LB but pardew forced him or he was going to get dropped. pardew is at fault, he needs to go he adds nothing but negativity and anyone questions otherwise well what can you question? As pardew is the manager here and we have not scored one set piece, corner in our whole career with pardew. We aimed it at williamson in benfica just like we used to and we aim it to steven taylor hoping for a goal. The whole staff needs to get checked and sacked. The medical, assistant, youth head coach everyone. Another injury today to krul we are f**ked!

Another thing is the whole formation is a mess, what happened to 3 in midfield with cabaye, Anita, tiote which I see as an excellent choice. The whole Sissoko behind Cisse thing does not work at all, Sissoko looks clueless and has been ever since that game with Chelsea, he suited on that role because Chelsea didn’t know we would play a midfield player like him too deep behind Cisse but we are predictable every game due to Pardew’s common sense and tactical philiosophy he as intergrated into our team and I hate watching us play every single game but I watch and support my team and never missed one game cause I love the club, the players and the history which made us today of who we are. Why is Marvo not Sat behind Cisse? He has showed us all that he can create and open opponents up, he has the most assists in our team for the season, what does that say about us? The lad barelys gets to start due to Pardew’s mentality. Im telling you negativity after negativity every game, always defensive, defensive, defensive nothing else “we will catch them out on the counter, and this has worked for us in previous games” he has never took the problem for himself and said its his own fault, this guy as a huge ego for a shite manager but he will only make us play worse and even more worse over time, We need to get rid of him, we need to sort out our staff, sort out the youth academy, sort out the the assistant manager, medical team, coaches everything we needs to from deep roots to start a new philiosophy if Mike Ashley which indeed wants this aswell is working on something right now I hope as he said and Derick Llambias has said we are following Barcelonas foot patch and will invest heavily in the youth and staff.

Purely pointing out that the easiest defence of Pardew is to say that injuries and players performing poorly and bad luck and wah wah wah are what’s to blame, not him.

I’m pointing out that Pardew is responsible in the overcoming of such things!

How did our 3 man central midfield get over run by Sebastian Laarson and Alfred?

It’s was a joke! You could see we had no direction or tactics. Sissoko continuously moving over to the wings, Tiote pushing forwards and Cabaye holding back to ping it upfield.

Those were the basics! I won’t get started on anything else!!

  • 90 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:32 PM

Daz…I’m not saying it’s often mate, really I’m not.

Look at the Sissoko one against Benfica though, how is that down to Pardew?

Today when Guti gave that pass away, he then just allowed the player goal side, then went in for a stupid tackle from behind. Sorry, I don’t think that’s the manager I think that’s players forgetting what they do for a job.

Would have expected a bit more from Pardew on the touchline today, try and get them in to the game more.

Beattie…I think whilst Sissoko had some good games at first in the hole, it seems over and to be honest, with the way he can bring the ball forward, he’s be much better playing further back, would be a better way of bringing ball from defense to attack, something that we seem to struggle with. I would swap Cabaye and Sissoko.

  • 91 Newcastle for alltid // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:32 PM

Switch Sissoko and Cabaye. As simple as that. Cabaye has got so much more vision, passing abilities and creativity. He also had goals in him, before Pardew took him deeper in the pitch and played Sissoko like a Demba Ba replacement. Sissoko would be so much better in the engine room, where he can tackle and run from the deep. He isn’t a CAM, and has never been.

  • 92 kevymartins // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:32 PM

  • 94 toonbrother // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:33 PM

RE:How can someone go from manager of the year to this? How is that even possible?

Think you have to question Pardews COACHING after today. Sunderland weren’t special lets be honest. We have possibly one of the best midfield 3s IMO in Sissoko, cab,Tiote yet a simple high press and we just start lumping the ball up. To add insult to injury pardew then brings on Ameobi so we can do twice the amount of long punts???? What’s going on 1-11 we are better than the scum but did we have the better tactician on the sidelines?? • 101 Bambams // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:36 PM

Maybe we think we are better than we actually are. Hurts me to think this, i genuinely believe half of our players would be good enough for a team in the top six/seven….Its when we have to rely on half fit or fringe players.
I am not going to beat myself up with this result, i have been worried it was going to come! What i will say is, possibly some of you may remember from the pundits during the Benfica live game on tv ” Oh Alan Pardew. em he has not got any confidence problems” …. That was from Coleman which just goes to show he has possibly an overflated ego and may not acknowledge others 9coaches) who may want to change the style slightly.

We have a handfull of games left, I still dont believe we will drop as IMO only one place left in the three to go down, i would still not swop for Sunderland team now and i still think they are in more trouble than we are. Big question is and only Ash can answer….Pards or new coach and or new manager.

  • 104 toonheroes // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:37 PM

Why when we have creative players like Marv and Cabeye are we playing Sissoko in the 10 roll? Cabaye and Sissoko should be swapped. Sissoko often gets the ball, brings it forward comes up against the centerbacks and just runs straight into then because he doesn’t have the creativity to do something with the ball.

For me Sissoko should be bringing the ball from deep and distributing it to the creative players to unlock the defense. Using him as a battering ram isn’t working.

However, this is the same guy who has had two cracking games at LB prior to this game. What’s different? Instruction? For me, most of today comes down to lack of attitude from the players. Maybe that has come from management, but ffs it was the derby, try and care a bit.

Swapping two players around is the not problem.

If the problem was that simple, it would not have cost us about 9 PL places and the worst defeat suffered in my lifetimes of supporting Newcastle.

Hopefully the fact that I’m usually so level headed means that this carries more weight, but I’d be very unhappy to see Pardew start next season as Newcastle United manager.

If there is one job that a Newcastle manager has, it’s to get more than ONE point from Sunderland in a season – especially when they’ve got one of the worst teams I can remember.

Its not just about today, it could have gone either way today, on another day we get the equaliser and it all changes.

The coaching needs to change, bring in someone who knows how to coach these foreign lads. Do you think what they must think, having been coached in France, many at clairfontaine, being taught pass and move, control etc and hen coming to us??????

Fella i have not seen a moment of the match, i managed to keep having a look at the blog and read what you lot were blogging in between my job.

I do hear several of the boys re we just played on thursday, i am at work now with a former Toon goalkeeper who you can imagine is furious and had seen the match prior to coming to work. from what i gather we were second to everything and saylor did not do too well.

My biggest issue, no worry is that we are all so crackers about our club do we see more in some of our players that really is not there. I hope i am wrong, this season has been truely woeful and it shudders me to think it will be similar next year.

  • 126 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 14, 2013 at 2:49 PM

I knew somebody would say that. I meant over the course of the season. Pardew left Marveaux on the bench too much earlier on in the season. Syvlain has been our star player this season. He just needs to add a few goals.

On paper our team looked much better than theirs today. Pardew needs to take the blame. We’d be a lot higher if we had kept Ba and signed Remy.

  • 127 DxK // Apr 14, 2013 at 3:26 PM

It’s tough Kets, we have to put this one behind us to an extent and take what we can from it.

Steven Taylor didn’t look 100% for me and a lot of the players were running on fumes. Our best chance is if WBA don’t really feel motivated as they’re kind of in a nothing position in the league – safe, but not going to make Europe and then if QPR are already mathematically down when we play them.

That could be the four points we need perhaps. The only other hope is that Stoke, who have been abysmal for a while, lose almost every match they have to play.

Our best chance seems to be to give Saylor a rest, rotate him with Colo alongside Mbiwa, who I thought did fine today. Then have Marveaux and Ben Arfa as our x-factor players, with Sissoko deep and Cabaye further forward AND actually putting a left back at left back, not a winger.

    Today my ratings were;

Krul – 7 – made some good stops
(Elliott – 6 – no chance with the goals really and otherwise ok)

Debuchy – 6 – was one of our best outfield players
Mbiwa – 6 – Not really at fault for the goals
    Saylor – 4 – Didn’t look fit, really struggled
Jonas – 4 – Gave the ball away, mind boggling LB selection

Cabaye – 4 – Not in the match at all
Tiote – 5 – Occasionally got stuck in, a shadow of former self.
Sissoko – 5 – Some good runs, mostly into dead ends

Marveaux – 6.5 – Right now seems the only one to unlock opposition defences.
Gouffran – 5 – Did nothing of note, should play up top or be sub.

Cisse – 6.5 – Made some great runs and ‘goal’ was onside.

HBA – 6 – Missed great chance (header), was a slight threat.
Shola – 5.5 – Tried to impose himself, but the body’s not able.

Pardew – 3 – Bizarre. A week he’ll want to forget, now has to raise the troops or it could be an unbelievable relegation, with a far stronger squad than Shearer took down. Will be lucky to still be manager next season if we don’t win 3/5 matches in the run in.
