The Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has said today the Newcastle squad are now physically and mentally fit following the Sunderland debacle, although the manager seems a little worried about our current captain Yohan Cabaye.
Yohan Cabaye – under pressure
Yohan played last summer in the Euros for France, and he was one of their best players, but it was the first time he hadn’t had a full rest in the summer, and the Frenchman admitted that he had suffered a little from depression at the start of the season, mainly because his body was so tired.
And Pardew gave Yohan the captaincy, after Fabricio Coloccini did his back in at the end of February, when trying that (daft) overhead kick against Southampton, in the 4-2 win – and he’s been out of the side ever since.
Alan Pardew had this to say today about Yohan:
“Cabaye is probably my biggest worry. The rest of them are really sound physically and mentally.” “But Cabaye is our best player in terms of intelligence on the pitch and he needs to play. That’s why he has played almost every minute.”
Newcastle are five points above the drop zone, and we were humiliated last Sunday against Sunderland, who had amassed only three points in their previous nine games, but got their biggest win against Newcastle since 1979, in a result that has shocked and angered Newcastle fans.
And it didn’t help when the manager said after the game the players were exhausted, and it looked like a rather poor excuse for a devastating result.
But Newcastle fans deserve a good and courageous performance on Saturday at West Brom, and we still have to get six points to be safe in the Premier League this season.
So we hope Yohan is OK, and the lads certainly need our full support in the final five games of the season, and so does the manager Alan Pardew.
Calls for Pardew to be fired, with five important games still to go in the season may not be appropriate or timely at this time, since we are still fighting relegation.
Let’s support the side through the end of the season, and maybe we can then have a really good summer of transfers into and out of the club, and certainly from our results this season in the Premier League, that’s exactly what we seem to need.

Comment #44Sad to say but I think we’ll be relying on other teams results. We have to many lackluster premformaces. To many players out of position and bad tactics by Pards doesn’t help. Andy Carroll was like a charging bull last night against man u, would take him back but would probably need Joey back to supply him!!! We need pace and flair. Desperately need a new striker but Pards would probably play him out of position.

Comment #45Beattie…Belfast taught me well…sadly it only works when he’s about…the horrible c**t 🙂
As for me being a championship level ankle holder…guilty as charged, but I will try harder. But please don’t worry, your ankles are definitely at the next level.
Betty…Sorry, what is it we’re discussing now, Pardew or Ashley? You had mentioned my reasoning was based on what Ashley would do and what we can attract as a replacement with him making the decisions and I don’t know what Pardew, his record or peoples opinion of him have to do with that.
Sorry, I am in and out at the minute on calls, so may be missing the point, it wouldn’t be the first time.
I do understand your views on Pardew and can go along with them to a certain extent, but on what basis do you think that Ashley will get better and if he can’t get better should we change just because we’ve had enough of Pardew?
Once again, apologies, this isn’t worded well at all.

That was the interview on Sky like you say where he predicted exactly what would happen.
He rightly predicted that he only has one way of playing but that he would con and bullshit everyone that he was in touch with the modern game and would provide a fast attacking team as nothing less would be acceptable to the Geordie fans.
He hasn t provided that and probably never had any intention of doing so.
I would so like someone to confront him on these issues and show him the recent long ball stats.
Someone who can t be fobbed off with the normal list of excuses as they have no bearing whatsoever on his outdated playing style.
I agree that we should give him and the team our full support till the end of the season but I am sure that many more people are seeing through all the spiel and patronising , smarmy crap that he spouts.
Underestimating the intelligence of the Geordie folk will not do you any good Mr. Pardew.

Comment #56No point in starting Cabaye, we have Anita or Marveaux who can replace him and do a job.
He must be tired and depressed from seeing the ball being hoofed over his head.
Not many were calling for Pardew to be sacked immediately.
I wanted him sacked after the FA Cup debacle.
After the final whistle of the season blows seems like a good time.
He’s a good talker, but tactically and style wise he’s really poor.
I feel really sorry for the traveling away supporters, they’ve paid thousands to watch some dire stuff.
I just watch free streams and I’m sick of watching us give the ball away cheaply and our dead ball kicks are woeful.
A change is needed.

“I love working here, and love the fans.” “They’ve been great for me – they give me great respect and that’s all I want.”
“I don’t want anything else, not undying love, I just want respect. I do a tough job and I do it to the best of my ability.”
“It’s difficult, and I’m looking forward to a rest,” “It’s demanding, but I have say I love it.”
He said this at the end of last season. The man has a lot of class. Sadly, that can not be said about many of the “fans” who want him gone. I love a debate on whether he is the right man to lead us forward etc but constant slating of the bloke and blaming him for an entire season of failings is just unbelievable.
John Carver also spoke so highly of him when he was dragged by Pardew to the LMA awards.
There were quotes about Pardew going in to the office at 7:30 every morning where most managers will see their players for the first time Wednesday morning each week.
He works hard, Cabaye tired!? Pardew tired i will accept!

Comment #67I was talking about external influences that are out of the managers control and I believe there have been many at this club this season that Pardew has had to contend with.
Aston Villa have had similar outside influences ruining their season. Injuries, lack of funding, having to play youngsters and of course there captain Stan Petrov being diagnosed with leukaemia. I think if Villa stay up this season, they will be a lot stronger and better for it next season.
And I believe both us and Villa will stay up.

Comment #68Looking at some of the fixtures ahead for the teams around us reveals that quite a few of the teams play each other -which to my mind suggests points lost to those teams to either catch us or draw away from us. We really
need another win -hopefully on Saturday. I think it is clear that Reading and QPR are already gone. The other interesting games in question are:-
West Ham v Wigan
Stoke v Norwich
Aston Villa v Sunderland
Norwich v Aston Villa
Sunderland v Stoke
Wigan v Aston Villa
Some of the clubs around us have hard games against those at the top which should help. Whilst I would prefer Wigan to go down Villa really look they might be candidates.

Interesting article on Cabaye. Whilst it angers a lot of us, given the amount they get paid to do a job we’d all love to do, we cannot assume what toll it takes mentally and physically on a player.
Let’s see how they perform with a normal schedule.
Great to hear Bernard confirm how much he loves it here.

I agree it takes it toll. But this is more or less asking for time off during the fight for survival. If we win the next 2, give him the rest of the season off. Until then you fight through depression and fatigue to save the future of the club.
People like Cabaye will be ok whatever next season. If we go down we won’t be.

Comment #77sean…I really would. I know he hasn’t been at his best this season, but there are clearly reasons for that.
Lack of rest from Euros.
Injuries.
Depression.
Being played too far back*
I mentioned the other day that whilst not his best position, with Tiote being out as much as he has and Anita not quite taking to the position yet I can see why Cabaye has been played further back. It’s all well and good having him further up field, but you need to be able to get the ball there. I guess that’s the thinking, I realise in practice it hasn’t quite worked out that way.
Basically, I hope he stays. Although he isn’t quite the captain I thought he’d be yet, but then neither is / was Colo.

I dont think Ashley is planning any drastic, disruptive changes to his plans for taking the club forward.
Contrary to many peoples views that Ashley is looking to sell players , which is stirred up by TV pundits and commentators, other than AC who had to be sold for that money there is no evidence of this.
Ashley wants value for money when he buys anything and to have a re sale value makes sense when you buy, whatever it is.
However I dont think he would dismantle the team for a modest profit.
That is the point I was making earlier that we don t need to put up with Pardews inadequacies for fear that Ashley might clash with the new guy.
Ashley will spend his money as he sees fit which he s entitled to do and as long as any new recruit is made aware of his plans for the future and accepts them then I really can t see that Ashley would need to make promises and not keep them.
I m sure he wants success like we all do but Pardews limitations will definitely prevent progress.
