Club President Confirms Interest In Newcastle Striker Target

News today that there is indeed interest in Portuguese Under-20 international striker Amido Balde, and Newcastle are one of the clubs said to be interested in the youngster.

Amido Balde

Amido Balde – 21 year-old striker

The 21 year-old 6’4″ striker who was born in Guinea-Bissauan, and he currently plays for Vitória Guimarães, was linked with Newcastle a few weeks ago.

And today Vitoria Guimaraes President Julio Mendes has told Estadio Deportivo that there is significant interest in his player:

“I can confirm that there are several clubs interested in Balde and we are studying the situation calmly and carefully”,

Baldé was released by Sporting Lisbon only last summer, and he then signed for Vitória de Guimarães in Portugal’s top division, on a two-year contract.

So it’s a little surprising that he is attracting such interest now after presumably he wasn’t good enough for Sporting last summer.

It seems that Newcastle are interested in the physical presence of the youngster, and we have to think that if Newcastle are able to get this young striker to Newcastle, it would end the pursuit for former striker Andy Carroll.

Everton are also said to be interested in the striker, but we’d be very surprised if other bigger clubs are not also keeping an eye on this top Portuguese youngster.

Just been checking the fixtures/results at West Brom. Their last five games as below:-
    02.03.13 Lost 1 -0 v Chelsea
    09.03.13 Won 2 -1 v Swansea
    16.03.13 Draw 0 -0 v Stoke
    30.03.13 Lost 3 -1 v West Ham
    06.04.13 Lost 2 -1 v Arsenal

Within the same period ie from Saturday 2nd March 2013 to date, we have had ten games, which includes 4 EL games.
So it looks like their squad should be fresh, but their form has dipped during the above period. Having said that they are a team who are beatable. I am therefore going for a 3 -1 win.

    repost:

to be honest, id like to see some fire tomorrow, see toon play like the season is depending on it.. oh wait, it IS… my opinions, on the last five:

    wba – beatable
liverpool – beatable, id rather walk alone
    whu – beatable
qpr – better beat the snot out of them and send them packing downward, au revoir remy, assbag
arsenal – prob not, but i hate them too…

lads need to play angry, and embarrassed; if they have half the passion we as fans have, toon would go unbeaten for 5 years, at least 🙂

Regarding Sissoko, playing him in a deeper role would allow us to play either Cabaye or Marveuax higher up the pitch as they are both better suited to a No10 role, also it would finally allow us to have a big, powerful midfielder to carry the ball out and link the play

Jack butler…. just to reply on sissoko. He did say himself he prefers to play more forward than he was used in france (however he is not a no.10 imo) I think pardew only.has him so far forward due to not having a real established and fit no.10 available. Marv needs more work. Hba and goofy both injured. Also, if he is dropped back to play alongside cabs… which one would be the holding player, and who would you have as no10 now that we have more options? This is a genuime question btw hope you dont think im having a dig 🙂

Tuff…Stop with your excuses…they’re getting tired mate. I’d take a 3-1 all day long, it would be fantastic.

Dok…Play embarrassed? Would that be shying away from the ball? 🙂

Your assessment on who is beatable is spot on given normal circumstances, sadly nothing normal about our lot…still, would be nice to end on a high, it would be nice to have a high.

i’d have perch and sissoko deeper…perch sits, sissoko drives forward when he has chance, also defends.

Cabs plays number 10, slots the ball through for cisse like he did last year

ben arfa and marv either side of cabs, not too wide, like a slightly wide number 10/winger…do what they think is best at time

    @Markaccus

I’d honestly love to see Cabaye played further forward as he’s lost of late being played so deep and isn’t able to have any real impact on the game.

But its a difficult one as we’ve have no natural link between the midfield and strikers all season, something that has and is still costing us as our attacking move’s break down very quickly, well that and the appalling quality of our final ball.

I just think that after the Chelsea game Sissoko has been found out and is no longer given the time or space he needs, so he has to adapt his game, but whoever plays as the No10 we need that link up

Yeah that sounds canny jack. I certainly think cabs is a more attacking player than socks. Socks could then play with a bit of box to box freedom and perch holds the fort. Only question i have is marv and hba both cut in. Would we have enough width?’ I trust hba to get wide but marv doesnt seem to perform when asked to go wide.

can get the extra width from the fullbacks if needed

but we don’t really score many from crosses whipped in from the by-line so width is just a means to stretch the play and get us more room in the middle, can come from fullbacks if really needed.

ibiza -afternnoon – I think you need cutting down to size ——–timber. Ha Ha Ha.
Clearly you and Beattie must have been playing hookey at school during the lessons about trees and bushes. Classic.
daztoon I think Percy has his back to the wall so may be more adventurous – desperation stakes. If he does the old routine of inviting pressure we may be shagged. That Lukaku could be a threat and get a goal anytime.

I think HBA is the best bet as our No10 (if fit) as he would offer far more than what he can when being played out wide. With Gouffran and Marv out wide and Cabaye and Sissoko alongside each other in the middle.

Or play a 4-4-2 with Gouffran and Cisse up front with Marv and HBA switching wings but again have Cabaye and Sissoko in the middle. For me Tiote is a liability this season with only a few flashes of the player he can be. He needs to get back to basic’s by just disrupting play and giving the ball simply

One for the future? Balde is a star right now! Benteke made a splash this season but Balde will make that look like a drop in the ocean! Alongside Cisse he will have as many assists and goals and both will be double digits.

What u reckon Ibiza worth of my 10%?
