Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has taken responsibility for the loss against Sunderland, and in his comments to the local press today, he’s said it’s the players fault for the humiliating 3-0 loss to Sunderland, and not the manager’s fault.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – players responsible for terrible loss
But the fans have laid the responsibility for the defeat squarely on Alan Pardew’s shoulders, be that right or wrong, and the last five games of the season are now vital for the future of the north-east club.
Another relegation in four years would be completely disastrous for Newcastle, and while it’s not exactly probable, it’s possible unless Newcastle can start picking up points quickly.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is clear that it’s the players who have to pull their socks up:
“I believe the responsibility for performances and results lie with the players.” “We have to take care of winning the next game.”
“The coaches and manager will help us, of course, but we need to take responsibility to show that we want to win the next game and keep the club in the Premier League.”
“It is an intense time.” “All us players understand that there is a lot of pressure on us right now because there are some massive games coming up.”
“You have to learn to live with the pressure as professionals. This is our job.” “This is such an important time and because of this you have to pay attention to everything; what you eat, when you sleep, how you rest, if you want to avoid injury.”
“Everyone needs to be ready now.” “This is what you must do to have a professional life and if you want to be a success.” “It is so important to win at the weekend because we obviously want to stay in the Premier League. It is a huge game for us.”
We need a win tomorrow to allow the Newcastle fans to start to recover from the disastrous and humbling loss last Sunday to Sunderland – the worst defeat by Sunderland since back in 1979.
It’s just not good enough.

Like you – all I’m asking for is progress. I want the long standing Toon problems of shite defence, too many injuries, not enough players coming through development, too small quality squad, too many utility players out of best position, lack of forward cover, old fashioned style of play – ALL these sorted out over time. We have a good few players in the right mould now but need to back them up with better coaching and much better attacking players to add to what we’ve got.
And a cup would be nice….*wistful look*

Comment #87On Swansea…I am not going to say they wont cope next season, but lets see how they cope with the EL before we praise them too much.
They have been working on their plan for 10 years, which is great.
Ours restarted again after relegation and up until this season was something that people from all corners of football were praising.
Any comparisons at this point are a little premature, just as us saying we’d arrived last season were clearly premature also.

You’re in the European places. Keep up the good work this season and you may get a transfer to chelseablog.org
People are talking about you and the manager Ed Harrison has already been quoted in saying it’d take a massive offer to see you leave.

It is a dark day in the Beattie household when he comes to realise that a man who endlessly puts Abied in every post he uses, a man who was dying to get Scharner into the team, a man wo always thinks we have £200 million to spend, has more respect than I.

In Scotland there is a loose bunch of musicians called the Fence Collective – led by King Creosote.
Reckon you have to be an honorary member (sorry BandB).
What is your preferred fence preservative without burning yer butt?

I am patient, would take top 10 with some seasons getting a challenge for the top 6 for a good few years, no rush, i’ll hopefully be watching us for many decades so a few more years matters little.
I just want to know we are giving ourselves the best, or close our best chance to progress. If there is no progress or regression changes must be made.
whether its a new manager or not i don’t know, think we do need to give pardew better coaches to work with and as long as he is willing to work with them then he has time, if he won’t accept help we must go for the good of the club not good of the manager.

You were missed in your absence though, you’re like a good takeaway…nice to have every every now and again but if eaten every meal can get too much haha.
but seriously we may not agree on everything but generally we agree on the basis of arguments, just have different solutions.

I agree with Beattie. Ha ha yes thats what I said. Edmond that post was kind of complimentary and erm well I am a bit unsettled now. 🙂
Anyway, it looks like streaming the match against the Baggies this weekend. I do hope we don’t lose, or we could be relying entirely on our dross relegation stablemates to save us. As if we aren’t already. I am hoping some fire and fitness returns to the team this time and we get a decent display.

Comment #100The table below is based upon how many shots each Premier League team has had this season. It makes for interesting reading.
Liverpool 575
Tottenham 526
Man City 503
Everton 487
Arsenal 482
Chelsea 476
Man Utd 456
Newcastle 429
Southampton 418
Swansea 394
QPR 393
Wigan 379
WBA 378
Fulham 375
West Ham 375
Sunderland 339
Villa 338
Norwich 323
Stoke 289
Reading 278
Conclusions drawn from this table are:
– Liverpool are profligate in front of goal. Perhaps with a more clinical striker they would be serious champions league contenders.
– Man Utd are ruthless in front of goal.
– We create many chances are and are almost as profligate as Liverpool in front of goal.

good stats but misleading
I remember a few games where we have had 20+ shots…but most from 30 yards and only maybe 1 or 2 you would actually expect to get a goal from.

Comment #108No one can deny we create many chances. I don’t normally use statistics when discussing football as I like to use my eyes to tell me who is a good player, who is a bad player, who is a defensive team, who is an attack minded coach etc. etc, so on and so forth. But I know that we have created many chances and this is based on how often I am out of my seat when I’m at the match as someone misses another great opportunity.
Fine margins, lads. Very fine indeed. We’ve had over 100 more shots than Norwich, yet we find ourselves below them and less than 30 few shots on goal than Man Utd and there is a gulf between us. Pardew isn’t doing a great deal wrong. It is the players letting us down, big time.
Oh, and Mike Ashley for not signing a striker to replace Best. A striker to replace Lovenkrands. And a striker to replace Ba.

Comment #112I don’t think those stats are that misleading. The teams in that table are roughly where they are in the league, except Man Utd and us. One if ruthless and clinical. The other isn’t. One has Van Persie, Rooney, Chicarito, Welbeck. The other has Cisse and Ameobi.
