Injury Update – Three Players Could Return Against Liverpool

10:29 am, Saturday, April 20th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 212 Comments

We learned with some despair  yesterday that both Cheick Tiote and Sylvain Marveaux will miss the game at West Brom today, after both seemed to pick up injuries this week in training.

fab coloccini and alan pardew

Coloccini and Pardew earlier this season

This cannot all be bad luck as even now out players seems to be going down like nine-pins.

Alan Pardew gave some updates on the injury front an talked about Cheick and Sylvain Marveaux:

“Cheick hasn’t trained since Sunderland,” “We don’t think it’s serious, and we think he’ll be training next week and available for Liverpool. But he’ll miss Saturday’s game for sure. Sylvain will also miss out.”

So it seems Cheick picked up a knock at Sunderland and maybe that’s where Sylvain injured his groin again – since he’s also out, but it looks like he could also return against Liverpool – with any luck.

And good news that Fabricio Coloccini returned to full training this week, and this is what the Newcastle manager said about Colo:

“Colo’s training, although he hasn’t done full physical work yet,”  “That’s due to come next week, and fingers crossed that goes okay because it will be a big boost to us to have our captain back.”

And we reported earlier this morning that Newcastle will have to be very careful with Ben Arfa and that hamstring of his, as Alan had this to say about his French winger:

“I don’t think he’s ready,” “He’s working hard, but we still think he has a particular injury and we’re trying to manage it to make sure we don’t lose him for the last five games.” “We’re trying to be very clever with him to get the best out of him.”

Ben Arfa will be on the bench today – but with any luck Tiote, Marveaux and Coloccini will all be available for the Liverpool game at St. James’ Park next Saturday.

And Tim Krul will have the operation on his dislocated shoulder on Monday, and he’s out of the season.

If the price is right then bring him back home, it gives a much better than Shola, plus we can play Carroll up front on his own or alongside Cisse. The hoof ball talk is nonsense, West Ham for large parts of games have been keeping the ball on the deck.

Carroll, Andros Townsend and Sakho would do the job, plus maybe Scott Sinclair as i can’t see us getting Aubameyang.

Will Santon be back this season, would like to see him played in front of Debuchy or Haidara for a couple of games.

    Jail for Ashley

i can safely say its numpties like you that will help take us down,,
he should have been sacked in nov, but naa pricks like you said it will be ok,,

look at the table and wake up,,

i guess your a winner just like pardew eh :D

I can see us getting a result against liverpool, if we get a result today! Will be one of MYM’s hardest tests, playing against Luis Suarez.

  • 5 Guj NUFC // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:35 AM

Geordie157- I doubt he will be :( and yes, I would have loved to seen him in a more attacking role in front of Haïdara!

Catchy…At this point I think most are questioning Pardew and regardless of the reasons, that is justified.

However, I don’t think there will be many who don’t want him to do well and turn it around at this stage as it’s our PL survival on the line.

Now is not the time for personal agendas, like it or not, he is our manager and his success or lack thereof will determine our fate. Who wouldn’t want to back him, at least for the next 5 games?

  • 7 croftus5678 // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:38 AM

o.k. not to jinx us here but just looked at a wba forum and wba are well up for this game to beat there overall best points in the prem ever !

i’m actually praying we win this game now as i really do not want to see the comments on here if we dont.

  • 8 croftus5678 // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:41 AM

win this game and secure survival then end the season please as i’ve had as much as i can take atm.

maybe we can look forward to ashley doing his transfer business then to bring a smile to a few faces.

I wish our injuries weren’t discussed in the press conference. He can lie to the fans but not the press …

Why tell WBA Tiote, Marveaux are out? Let them, find out when the team sheet is posted.

  • 10 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:43 AM

Pardew is a prat all he does is lie make excuses and feel sorry for himself don’t think I’ve ever disliked a manager so much.

i dont see why i should suddenly say, come on pardew,, you can do it,
my opinion has not changed on him , and i would be 2 faced if i started to back the guy,

my point has been all season long that we are in this mess because he is stubborn and unwilling to do the right thing,
most are quick to put this on injuries or lack of spending, when the truth is, you dont need a huge squad to have a style off football
our style has always been , see what the other team are doing then defend against it,,

i feel if we start to back the guy now, he will be here another season, setting us up for failure AGAIN

    so far this season

    33 played
    1 away win all season
no goals scored from free kicks or corners
17th worst defence in the league
19th worst away record (only reading worse)
we dont win away from home but our attck is better away from home than at home

a guy that trains the team defensivly 4 days aweek has got it so wrong

HOW CAN WE TRUST THE GUY

  • 16 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:54 AM

He constantly plays players out of position and then wonders why they make mistakes.

  • 17 proudtobageordie // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:54 AM

people still slagging Pardew astounds me considering all the injuries and suspensions and europa league campaign. He ain’t top draw but he is a good manager for a decent premiere league team as that is all we are at the moment. Get behind your club as we are stuck with him for a long time and he will prove his worth eventually

  • 18 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:55 AM

  • 22 tooninspain // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Certain people on this board are preaching about negativity when they want to see Ashley fail, and blame him for everything. I mean, it was Ashley’s decision to play Jonas at left-back last week, wasn’t it?

  • 23 proudtobageordie // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:59 AM

    catchy

    don’t talk utter bollocks mate

  • 24 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 20, 2013 at 10:59 AM

Catchy…I’m not suggesting you change your stance on Pardew, quite clearly you wouldn’t do that, nor should you. One thing I can never claim is that you are two faced with regards to your opinion, you have been relentless all along (yes, that is actually a compliment).

I want to be careful here not to put words in your mouth. I get your point that if he saves this season so to speak, then he would likely keep the backing of the board for more time (which quite frankly he might do anyway). Are you suggesting it would be better to be relegated in the hope that seals Pardews future and we get a new manager?

On a personal note. I apologise for throwing my toys out of the pram the other day, it has to happen sometimes, but as always I’d rather have a reasoned debate. I know in the past I have insulted you along with your opinion, as have you mine. Perhaps, we’d be best to just sticking to topic rather than dragging each other in to it?

For example, I am happy to accept that whilst negative about Pardew, that doesn’t make every aspect of your life negative, much like if someone doesn’t want Pardew kicked out right now it doesn’t make them a loser, just because you think Pardew is.

  • 25 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:00 AM

He plays Sissoko out of position Cabaye as well played Cisse RM FFS puts Marv on the wing played Joan’s lb when we had one on the bench I could go on.

RELEASE CLAUSE we had no choice

  • 27 wreker16 // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:02 AM

Pardew has been unlucky with injuries and Europa league etc

However, you can’t deny he should have done better.

Yes he wasn’t backed and that was a shocking decision but still. It’s not got that much better since January.

Also, I agree (obviously) Pardew isn’t a top draw manager, but our first team is. If we had a better manager, imagine what hatem, cisse, cabaye, moussa, debuchy etc could do.

The quality of the team deserves more.

Pardew should go at the end of the season. Not now though. Way too risky

  • 28 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Says he wants to win stuff plays weak side vs benfica plays 1 first team player against Brighton and weak side vs Man U

  • 29 wreker16 // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:04 AM

We can settle for a class team with an average manager.

But why not try and get quality in both?

    That would be ambition

agree and if ronald mcdonald was manager we should never want our team to do bad just to prove our ego right.

and in fairness to tkf he does play a few out of position a-la goofy/cabaye/sissoko

  • 32 TimKrulFan // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:05 AM

  • 33 proudtobageordie // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:05 AM

sissoko who else has he got to play no 10 role and imo he has done a cracking job
    cabaye is our best dm
jonas lb for his country and you lot whinge when he is l/m
    marv is a winger
cisse up front since ba left and held to ranson by him when he was here.
you can never keep you negga’s happy

  • 36 Hatem's better than Messi // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:07 AM

Worst run in Prem history worse than relegation season.
Yet another FA Cup exit to a better team from a lower league.
Gave S’ton their first win (they were bottom at the time).
Gave Reading their first away win.
The heaviest derby defeat in 34 years …

    Playing unattractive unproductive football.
I have to admire the loyalty shown to him by some supporters.

But on top of that we have his press conferences and all the twisted words trying to spin blame away from himself.

We need to get rid as soon as the last whistle of the season blows.

  • 37 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:08 AM

proud…Long time no see, hope all is well.

Wreker…I don’t think anyone has a problem with getting a better manager come season end. But that for me, is not a reflection on Pardew or his season, just that if you can get better, then you should.

Still comes back to whether we would get better. Not blaming Ashley for the whole season, but there are still legitimate questions over his ambition for NUFC, which would dictate the type of manager he would look at, if he were to look for one at all.

firstly accepted :) i extend mine to you to :)

regarding me being negative or not, i know in my normal everyday life, im happy go lucky, try my best at everything i do, ALWAYS WILLING TO LEARN, and help,

iv said before,, i like football, i love NUFC, and i will not just sit back and watch this train wreck happen, and i can see more and more seeing pardew the same way i do

Half of what you write I do agree with.

That would hurt the club more than him staying.
However at the end of the season if safety is secured I would look at other options

erm…i thought the last 2 europe games we played brilliant tbh if we played with that desire every week i would definatly not moan.

and tbf i must have read 9/10 fans on forums for weeks and weeks before calling for ba to be sold as he was “no good for the team” and the fans idea of playing was with cisse alone up front !

    Ibiza

Good piece by Ryder. Interesting how Pardew evidently really does understand the defects in his career – early exits in Cups fr’instance.

I hope he’s still with us next season – but not as sole Manager. I think we are a big enough club to have a top Assistant Manager who is responsible for all first team coaching and match tactics.
That would leave Alan free to sort out the other longstanding problems we have:
    1. An abysmal injury record;
    2. Poor fitness and stamina;
    3. Overall man management;
    4. Player development – making sure recruitment is right and the plyers actually do get to 1stg team level;
    5. Overall coaching oversight – our current team needs reinforcement and co-ordinating;

There are a few for starters – but the Toon needs better staff below managerial level as well as new blood tactically for the first team.

If we bring in a young ambitious guy as No2 who’ll move on to a ‘big’ club in three years time then so what.

If the guys aren’t up for it today motivation wise – then we’ll know we need a full clear out come summer – not just Pardew but most of the coaching staff – they do work as a team after all.

Ibiza – Hopefully that is a a more consdered view than Catchy’s mantra of ” I hate Pardew” and you ain’t going to go off on one again :)

hate to burst your bubble’s lads but as much as i want Pardew out he’s actually never played a player out of position, you say sissoko is out of position sorry but he’s not, he plays DM, CM, AMC, LW, RW, ML, MR

also jonas can play LB, RB, ML, MR, RW, LW, MC and DM so i think ppl on this blog need to get there facts right before disputing players position.

P.S stop thinking this is fifa or football manager, it’s real life.

Catchy..Excellent. Don’t see how everyone constantly slating each other will help anything. End of the day we all do love this club, just have varying ideas of how to get where we want to be.

So for clarity, you want him to lose every game to throw serious doubt in to everyones mind, mainly the boards that he’s not the right man, but not at the cost of relegation as you think even if we lose every game we’ll still be safe?

Think I got it. Honestly, that is an extreme game of chicken.

    Proud…Probably the safest approach :)

yo-yo…How dare you! I shall never talk with you again :)

I thought the Ryder article was about as honest and real as we’ll ever see from him. Eyes are open. Maybe I give the guy too much sympathy, maybe there is no room for it in football, but then again, maybe there is.

I have always maintained that any issue with this “plan” to bring slow steady success would hinge on two things.

    1) Not being relegated as it would just push us back again.
    2) The players. If the manager loses the dressing room then it’s game over. The other player question mark is timing. Will they stick around for 3 or so years whilst things are worked on or will they jump ship? What was the timeline sold to get wherever it is we’re supposed to be going to?

If those two points don’t prove problematical, then Pardew can be given time, if not then change would be needed as to not undo all the work done to date.

Anyway, back on to your post, sorry for the detour. I would be delighted with that suggestion, seems to cover all of the bases and would be a positive first step without what could be considered knee jerk reactions.

    I’m on board :)

Ibiza….That 2nd paragraph gave the impression that the riots contributed to the non-performance of the players, which, as we know, is carp.
When Pardew first arrived, we were all underwhelmed. However, he gradually won us over with his man-management skills (particularly with Ben Arfa), and the general way he handled himself. I’ve no doubt Ashley was taken in too. However, he has flattered to deceive, and once you scratch away below the surface, there’s nothing there. Of course it would be suicide to get rid of him just now, but Ashley, I believe, will replace him before next season. I’ve no doubt other non-performers in Ashley’s empire are quickly replaced. Why should NUFC be any different?

  • 80 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:42 AM

tooninspain…Did you see the full interview? The way it was presented on here seemed to suggest it went from our performance to the acts afterwards when in fact, the interview didn’t run that way at all imo. I think he was only standing up the majority of fans who always act superbly, hence my surprise you thought that in particular was drivel.

I have been saying for a while now that Ashley, if not happy with Pardews performance and if he doesn’t think he’s matching his ambition will not hesitate to replace Pardew. I’ve never believed that this 8 year contract stuff secured him long term as far as Ashley is concerned.

All that does though is throw in to question what Ashleys intentions are. It will be an interesting summer for sure.

Does anyone think Jonas is as good a goalie as Enrique? :)

Blackandwhite…I would say they certainly mix up how we take our corners more. I have no faith when the ball gets crossed in, so would welcome more short corners for sure.

The only player to really play out if position this season was cisse, right at the start of the season, he hasn’t played RW for ages
Sissoko is fully capable of playing the No:10 role, done it many times for Toulouse aswell as playing RW for them
Jonas only played LB out of necessity
Cabs has only started to play deeper since mid feb which coincides with the obvious fatigue he’s been showing in most games since then
Marv is best suited to CAM but once again how fit is he? Can’t manage 2 games in a week and has his first real run in the team and surprise surprise he’s injured
It’s easy for us to sit on here and rattle of our team selections but none if knows the players capabilities, fitness levels or there limitations

Just a quick question to those who say pardew is clueless and to defensive, why do you all then name to holding midfielders in your posted line ups?? Seems a bit hypocritical

Sissoko hasn’t got a killer pass? The lads racking up assists! He’s played RW numerous times in France and was praised for it, once again you’ve skimmed over the obvious fatigue issue with cabs and Marv, and as for haidara do you not think 2 games in 4 days when coming back from injury would be a bit much? Pardew said about haidara wasn’t match fit to play 2 games in 4 days after his injury but like I said its easy to sit on here and pick the teams when you have no idea of the players conditioning

i think in fairness if Pardew didn’t have to worry about injuries and had a good set of rotation ability’s with players he would of got us in the top 5 for sure.

being in the EURO did take advantage of our players fitness and as record shows even to other teams like Fulham and Everton didn’t do well in the premier league and where struggling to avoid relegation when they where in the EURO’S.

so next season i think and hope that Pardew can prove all the pundits wrong and reclaim the fans trust and support

  • 98 yo-yo // Apr 20, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Mashley has his own mamnagement style.
Didn’t translate particularly well to football club when he came but he has learned an awful lot.
Can’t see him happy at all that Whelan has managed to drag his bunch of cloggers to Wembley and it’ll be personal. On this occasion agree with bills-son that Mash really does have ambition for the Toon – he’ll want to win something during his period of ownership as it would put him one up on the Hall/Shepherd era (and score a point off KK too).
So where does AP fit into these plans ? Will he get an upgrade or will he show the loyalty he does to his other senior managers (though apparently all on incentives).

Could go any of three ways this summer imo – he might stick and give him more time, he might get rid at the end of the season, he might go half way and strengthen the whole playing side coaching & player management team (hopefully including medics) and kick Pards upstairs. I do believe Pards has a genuine affection for the club and the NE – it’s more than a job for him and he still has a lot to prove.

All I want is a wee bit of silverware and not the Johnstone’s paint trophy.

With the strengthening of the squad in the summer and the present squad i agree he has to be judged next season as there is no european campaign. He and us fans will not be able to use that excuse next season. Imo we will be top six next season and all players will be fresh as there is no international competition in the summer break either. in all honesty i think playing sissoko as a AMC would be probably the best role to put him in look at the chelsea game when he played there he kept running with ball even past the likes of cole, he got into space that led to 2 goals he scored and causing there defense and midfield to panic when he ran at them and pushing there players back, and i know ppl will say well he hasn’t done that since, well you got to look at he has played every single game since coming here and hasn’t had a rest and if my memory serves me right hasn’t even been substituted.

I honestly think it was more than tiredness. Tiredness didn’t help but we had 4/5 changes from the thursday game and a few only played a small part.

Our issue was the same as it has been all season, lack of attacking intent, sitting too deep and just letting teams play in front of us.

But that’s in the past. hopefully we go out today and have a go, not gung ho but pressure them. I think we can and will win today.

Whilst I’m not convinced about Percy’s abilities -if as you say you get the feeling that he is here to stay, without any European distractions next season it will be interesting to see how we do. I only hope our lowly position does not have the effect of “better” players not coming here. I think we will be getting half a team in the summer -at least five. Hopefully Ashley will authorise a couple of stars -PEA or players of that standard.

i agree to an extent but then again i’m no fan of the lone striker either as i dont think cisse is the best player to have up front alone and our midfielders (without benny and a left sided winger) we do not get as much support in the box when we break.

yeh he has, but not to the level it was going before, and no where near as often.

and also having sissoko holding with tiote isn’t negative or defensive i dont think. I think he will play like toure does for city, sitting deeper but bursting forward to create attacks.

He can beat a man in midfield which will have him running between the defence and midfield of the opposition which will then allow cabs and forward 3 to have space as people come out of defence to close sissoko down.

Our players are as good as theirs – probably better – but thats the continuing problem with Pardew and his useless team.. WE DONT GET THE MAX OUT OF THE “GROUP” ….as he keeps referring to them. And we also have rubbish fitness levels so we lose players all over the place. Its all a load of tosh – and then he starts slagging off Sunderland!! This is the man who said we needed to look beyond Everton last season. How stupid does he look now? Its a shame, cos for some reason I have a soft spot for him, but logic says we can do so much better and we need to replace him in the summer. I can only imagine what all the good players must be thinking after a few months under his defensive training ( that doesnt work ) . So annoyed with him. Maybe he can blame the senegal FA for the whole messed up season? 2-1 to Brom today if they have their main players. Probably be a late winner too. Rant over….

I just think that even with the tired legs we were poor, and the way in which we were poor is the way we have been poor all season (even the many weeks where there was no europa league). The problems are more than tiredness, it’s the style we play, its so slow and we are so deep that we don’t create enough good chances, restricted to pot shots a lot of the time.

I just dont understand why we can play when we go behind but until that point we are so rigid and set in a deep, defensive style.

If he just let them play from the start how we do when we concede we would look much better.

To me this shows pardew can get them playing well, just he is afraid/too cautious and hasn’t the confidence in the players to dominate a game, which is my view is wrong when you look at our team, especially now, compared to a lot of sides we play.

Being a little more attacking and getting say 9 points instead of just 1 from home games to west ham, swansea, villa, sunderland and reading would have had us 8th and looking much better off (also if we were attacking in them games our play would be better too).

Gary neville did a bit on sunderland when the sacked o’neill. Said they didn’t have a lot of pace in the team and they played too deep so when they won the ball it was too much to get it up the pitch in time to take advantage of any gap.

I think its similar too us as well. We need to play a further 20/30 yards up the pitch so when we win the ball back we can attack quickly and take be more likely to create something.

Proud…..I know he’s no a worldie!! How can you possibly even make the suggestion? How can a manager be absolved of all this after 40 odd games?? He has a better talent pool than many clubs but most games dont start for us until the second half. Someone else said Pardew needs to re=evaluate his style …..ThATS NOT POSSIBLE. Managers have football philosophies – and most dont change their methodologies. I think its time that guys like Toonbano were respected on this blog because he has been pointing out problems all year – and people screamed negger on here at him?? Its not about neggers v optimists – its about where the club is going and its management.

we could play Taylor or MYM as a ball player, cover defender to keep our mids in possession and be quick on winning the ball back and counter but to be honest i couldn’t see Pard’s approach this.

    Well lads, it’s match day!

Nervous about this game but I am starting to think that WBA have started their end of season celebrations as they’ve little or nothing to play for now.

If we start the game with intensity we could catch them on the hop and rattle their cage.

    I’m going for 2-0 Toon :D

I can’t see nothing but a defeat today!!! Sorry lads

  • 161 Big Pappa Cissé // Apr 20, 2013 at 12:51 PM

I don’t hate Pardew aw a person, far from it. My problem is that when I see teams like Wigan go to Man City with a worse team than ours and actually give City a game and not get turned over. Yes they lost but we seem to get hammered more and hammer teams less under Pardew.

I admit getting rid of Pardew now is not the answer but next season if we are still in the PL I want to see what a manager that goes after teams with slick passing football. We sure as sh*t have the players but for whatever reason Alan can’t get them playing well.

I also think Pardew wants to evolve but doesn’t know how. Last season a lot of our success was built on the 4-4-2 formation with Ba paired with Shola or Best. 4-3-3 with Hba—-Cisse——-Ba worked brilliantly and got us in to Europe IMO with six wins on the bounce. Pardew stopped this because Ba was not happy and it is the classic case of if its not broken why try to fix it, but Pardew seems to think he knows best.

Cisse looks so iscolated in a 4-2-3-1 and I just don’t get why Parfew would change a team that had him scoring 13 in 12 FFS.

Beefman, fair enough dude. Its good to agree sometimes. Proud, Croftus etc , why cant we be a bit more ambitious?? Im not an unfair guy ) i have supported Pards for ages – and could still be turned. But I see no logical reason why we are going to imprive. They way people defend him, you would think that Colo, Krul, Cabaye and Cisse and HBA hadnt played at all this season.

  • 166 ~ Phoenix Warrior Perch~ // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:02 PM

  • 167 Ruddy Marveaux-lous // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:03 PM

    Munster

I agree that injuries is sounding more and more like a tired excuse but not having a settled back 5 has caused serious disruption.

Also not having Cabaye and HBA for months robbed us of two of our best players for a sizeable part of the season.

I would love to see a game based on possession, attacking intent, and pressing high up the field and I am beginning to think we will not see that from Pardew’s teams regardless of what players he has available but I am willing to give him until Xmas to prove me wrong.

If it’s not forthcoming then I will be calling for his head.

  • 169 Munster Mag // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:06 PM

Agree with that. Tiote had regressed hugely. Not sure if Pards can be blamed or whether its his attitude. Im beginning to question our famous scouting. Plenty of average players. Everyone knew about Sissoko but plenty of what we have bought aint up to much. Amalfitano, Tiote, Obertan, Gosling, the fella we loaned out in scotland, etc. I’ve never rated Santon as a defender and have said this from within a couple of games of his debut. Do we overrate the whole Toon set up, or am i just being a grouchy old git today?

  • 173 Big Pappa Cissé // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:16 PM

    @ munster

I wouldn’t really say overrating more not using them correctly. No one can deny the talents of Cabaye, Debuchy, Sissoko, M’biwa, HBA (french internationals) Cisse (Senegalese international) and a few others so there is real talent there. You just have to look at Wenger fuming when we got Yohan & Moussa. But when Pardew starts playing Cisse right wing & target man, Cabaye as a DM and Sissoko as a number 10 it is no wonder they don’t perform to their full ability.

  • 174 Jail for Ashley // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:17 PM

    Ptbg,
Where did you get the information about the sanctioning of three quality players,I distinctly remember Pards telling us last year that four top quality players would be signed including a good friend of Yohan Cabaye, all very well promising us players to sell tickets, stomping up the required cash is a different matter.

  • 175 Mister Tuff // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:18 PM

Munster @137 -you pose the question as to why Aubameyang would come to a team scrapping relegation and a crap coaching set up – apart from the lure of the premiership and money.
As with all teams in the summer it all begins with a clean slate for the season ahead and the dreams that buying teams can “sell” to a prospective player as to what the future can bring. Individuals may or may not accept the dream that is being sold. Some players may prefer to play on an interim basis at a club that has not reached the top as they would prefer to develop themselves gradually -as opposed to going to a giant club too early and not getting games. PEA has already been at AC Milan as a youth so I’m sure he knows the arguments here -better to show signs of continual upwards progress rather than the other way around.
The downside is that he has stated he wants CL football next season – he could get that by staying at ASSE as they look as if they will qualify.
Additionally we could at Newcastle have “personal recommendations” for French (speaking) players – which has already happened. I do believe that PEA played at Lille a couple of years ago so he knows Cabaye. The “French” days at Newcastle have been a PR masterstroke -unusual as they are not that good at PR.
Why individuals go anywhere in reality differs from person to person -I only hope that he is interested in Newcastle as he is a tremendous player.

  • 179 Big Pappa Cissé // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:28 PM

If Pardew takes this down I will never forgive him despite how fun last season was and European nights being back at St. James’. It would be a crime to football not to have our best 11 players playing slick attacking football under a manager with balls. This squad is a hell of a lot stronger than the side that went down a few years ago and another relegation would mentally destroy me as a fan.

  • 180 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:28 PM

Catchy…Thanks for the response. Wasn’t actually talking about what you said in the past, but your comment today.

Was just trying to gauge how badly you want rid of him really. You said you felt even if we lose all of our games we’d still stay up, on the basis you don’t see Stoke getting anything and they will go down, not us.

I think your point was that you hope if Pardew didn’t get another point this season it would confirm your viewpoint and that the board would then possibly act – was just wondering how you felt about that if it meant relegation for us.

    Obviously all hypothetical.

NUFC will not be relegated this season no matter how bad they play under Pardew. This merely confirms how poor the bottom 8 or so Prem teams have been this season.

Next season is another matter altogether, however I see no reason to suspect it will not be yet another re-run of the same top 5 – the same eternal hopefuls just under them – and 8 or 9 Championship standard clubs at the bottom paying big earning foreigners to try and keep ‘em up… It’s not what I call entertainment to be honest.

Ibiza – afternoon. I hope you are not going to get carried away by Obertans’ hat trick. Looks as if he is. Remember it was the reserves. I did a few posts – I think around Christmas outlining his entire career from Bordeaux onwards and he never scored a hat trick and in his subsequent seasons (including Bordeaux) thereafter his seasons tally never exceeded -it was either 3 or 5 goals -can’t remember which now. so I suggest nothing to get too excited about.

  • 200 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:56 PM

Catchy…To be fair, you have thought your point has been proved all along :)

I am not going to say we’ve played well this season, as we haven’t. I do agree that the way we press, or don’t is pathetic and some of that will come down to Pardew. No way that Cisse, often by himself or occasionally with the assistance of one other player will pull much off without a lot of luck. So that certainly needs to change.

You and I will always struggle to agree at the end of the day, as whether right or wrong, I did enjoy last season – Is that a basis that I could accept? It sure is. Can it be improved upon? It sure can.

  • 201 Mister Tuff // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:57 PM

nufc-eire – I don’t think that there is anything in black and white that says if you play in the reserves you cannot play in the first team in this case it’s just the proximity of the two games being on subsequent days. He is still a first team player though –I hasten to add on paper not that I think he is!.

  • 202 croftus5678 // Apr 20, 2013 at 1:59 PM

    @165 munster

its nothing to do with ambition as i myself think that pards is a stop gap that can get us a better reputation untill a world class manager is availible who will push us forward.
but atm he’s not as bad as most make him out and is an avg manager nothing more if our squad keeps getting better quality wise and we stay in the prem (i only see striker and wingers missing) i think he could push us into top 6 next season and maybe attract that bit better class of a manager !

my only concern is the pards out chants only so that some can claim they was right (at the cost of the team) when no matter who’s in charge or the mistakes they made we should never want our team to do bad !

and all the years of bad publicity and the jokes made at us about our defending ect (few exeptions lately) but we was staring to be a football team again instead of a circus.
