We learned with some despair yesterday that both Cheick Tiote and Sylvain Marveaux will miss the game at West Brom today, after both seemed to pick up injuries this week in training.
Coloccini and Pardew earlier this season
This cannot all be bad luck as even now out players seems to be going down like nine-pins.
Alan Pardew gave some updates on the injury front an talked about Cheick and Sylvain Marveaux:
“Cheick hasn’t trained since Sunderland,” “We don’t think it’s serious, and we think he’ll be training next week and available for Liverpool. But he’ll miss Saturday’s game for sure. Sylvain will also miss out.”
So it seems Cheick picked up a knock at Sunderland and maybe that’s where Sylvain injured his groin again – since he’s also out, but it looks like he could also return against Liverpool – with any luck.
And good news that Fabricio Coloccini returned to full training this week, and this is what the Newcastle manager said about Colo:
“Colo’s training, although he hasn’t done full physical work yet,” “That’s due to come next week, and fingers crossed that goes okay because it will be a big boost to us to have our captain back.”
And we reported earlier this morning that Newcastle will have to be very careful with Ben Arfa and that hamstring of his, as Alan had this to say about his French winger:
“I don’t think he’s ready,” “He’s working hard, but we still think he has a particular injury and we’re trying to manage it to make sure we don’t lose him for the last five games.” “We’re trying to be very clever with him to get the best out of him.”
Ben Arfa will be on the bench today – but with any luck Tiote, Marveaux and Coloccini will all be available for the Liverpool game at St. James’ Park next Saturday.
And Tim Krul will have the operation on his dislocated shoulder on Monday, and he’s out of the season.

Half of what you write I do agree with.
But surely no fan would see us relegated just to get rid of pardew.
That would hurt the club more than him staying.
However at the end of the season if safety is secured I would look at other options

erm…i thought the last 2 europe games we played brilliant tbh if we played with that desire every week i would definatly not moan.
and tbf i must have read 9/10 fans on forums for weeks and weeks before calling for ba to be sold as he was “no good for the team” and the fans idea of playing was with cisse alone up front !
now it seems everyone is jumping on pards head for what most fans wanted in the first place >.<

Good piece by Ryder. Interesting how Pardew evidently really does understand the defects in his career – early exits in Cups fr’instance.
I hope he’s still with us next season – but not as sole Manager. I think we are a big enough club to have a top Assistant Manager who is responsible for all first team coaching and match tactics.
That would leave Alan free to sort out the other longstanding problems we have:
1. An abysmal injury record;
2. Poor fitness and stamina;
3. Overall man management;
4. Player development – making sure recruitment is right and the plyers actually do get to 1stg team level;
5. Overall coaching oversight – our current team needs reinforcement and co-ordinating;
There are a few for starters – but the Toon needs better staff below managerial level as well as new blood tactically for the first team.
If we bring in a young ambitious guy as No2 who’ll move on to a ‘big’ club in three years time then so what.
If the guys aren’t up for it today motivation wise – then we’ll know we need a full clear out come summer – not just Pardew but most of the coaching staff – they do work as a team after all.
Ibiza – Hopefully that is a a more consdered view than Catchy’s mantra of ” I hate Pardew” and you ain’t going to go off on one again 🙂

Comment #50hate to burst your bubble’s lads but as much as i want Pardew out he’s actually never played a player out of position, you say sissoko is out of position sorry but he’s not, he plays DM, CM, AMC, LW, RW, ML, MR
also jonas can play LB, RB, ML, MR, RW, LW, MC and DM so i think ppl on this blog need to get there facts right before disputing players position.
P.S stop thinking this is fifa or football manager, it’s real life.

Comment #53Catchy..Excellent. Don’t see how everyone constantly slating each other will help anything. End of the day we all do love this club, just have varying ideas of how to get where we want to be.
So for clarity, you want him to lose every game to throw serious doubt in to everyones mind, mainly the boards that he’s not the right man, but not at the cost of relegation as you think even if we lose every game we’ll still be safe?
Think I got it. Honestly, that is an extreme game of chicken.
Can I ask, in your quest to enlighten fans, do you let your voice be heard anywhere else other than on this blog?

Comment #59basically look at our players we have and bought in they can play in different position instead of only 1, i went to youth academy with S.Taylor and believe it or not he was a striker at first then the coaches put him as a defender

Comment #63Proud…Probably the safest approach 🙂
yo-yo…How dare you! I shall never talk with you again 🙂
I thought the Ryder article was about as honest and real as we’ll ever see from him. Eyes are open. Maybe I give the guy too much sympathy, maybe there is no room for it in football, but then again, maybe there is.
I have always maintained that any issue with this “plan” to bring slow steady success would hinge on two things.
1) Not being relegated as it would just push us back again.
2) The players. If the manager loses the dressing room then it’s game over. The other player question mark is timing. Will they stick around for 3 or so years whilst things are worked on or will they jump ship? What was the timeline sold to get wherever it is we’re supposed to be going to?
If those two points don’t prove problematical, then Pardew can be given time, if not then change would be needed as to not undo all the work done to date.
Anyway, back on to your post, sorry for the detour. I would be delighted with that suggestion, seems to cover all of the bases and would be a positive first step without what could be considered knee jerk reactions.
I’m on board 🙂

Comment #76B&W Army….you forgot to mention Jonas can play striker and goalie.
Ibiza….That 2nd paragraph gave the impression that the riots contributed to the non-performance of the players, which, as we know, is carp.
When Pardew first arrived, we were all underwhelmed. However, he gradually won us over with his man-management skills (particularly with Ben Arfa), and the general way he handled himself. I’ve no doubt Ashley was taken in too. However, he has flattered to deceive, and once you scratch away below the surface, there’s nothing there. Of course it would be suicide to get rid of him just now, but Ashley, I believe, will replace him before next season. I’ve no doubt other non-performers in Ashley’s empire are quickly replaced. Why should NUFC be any different?

Comment #80tooninspain…Did you see the full interview? The way it was presented on here seemed to suggest it went from our performance to the acts afterwards when in fact, the interview didn’t run that way at all imo. I think he was only standing up the majority of fans who always act superbly, hence my surprise you thought that in particular was drivel.
I have been saying for a while now that Ashley, if not happy with Pardews performance and if he doesn’t think he’s matching his ambition will not hesitate to replace Pardew. I’ve never believed that this 8 year contract stuff secured him long term as far as Ashley is concerned.
All that does though is throw in to question what Ashleys intentions are. It will be an interesting summer for sure.
Does anyone think Jonas is as good a goalie as Enrique? 🙂
Blackandwhite…I would say they certainly mix up how we take our corners more. I have no faith when the ball gets crossed in, so would welcome more short corners for sure.
