Alan Pardew was trying to be positive after the game yesterday, but most fans wanted all three points as some restitution for the humiliation we had to suffer last Sunday against Sunderland.
Elliot makes good save from Long – after mishandling the ball
And we could have had the game put to bed at half time, if only we had players who could take some of the easy chances that were presented.
And we are really suffering from not getting Loic Remy in January, who could have got us some goals, but it now seems Liverpool are interested in him, and there’s no doubt he would have been great at Newcastle.
Bur it’s history now and it just wasn’t to be.
This is some of that Alan Pardew said after the game yesterday:
“West Brom have had some fantastic results here. We stood up well to them.” “If you have a goalkeeper who can hit the ball to the edge of the opposition box to powerful strikers, which they have, then it’s difficult.”
“The disappointing thing about the second-half is that we didn’t get hold of the ball or create a chance to get the winning goal. We were hanging on at the end, which we did well.”
And Rob Elliot had one or two dodgy moments in the game yesterday, but he still saved Newcastle with a tremendous stop from James Morrison, and a goal from Morrison would have meant defeat for Newcastle, and all hell would have broke loose yesterday, if that had happened – make no mistake.
Pardew praised his back-up goalkeeper:
“Whenever Rob’s been called upon he’s been terrific.” “He made one tiny error at the start of the second-half when the ball bobbled in front of him.
“So it took great character to be strong and solid in the second half.” “He came for all the crosses. And the save from the header was superb. He’s good at that. He can be proud of his performance.”
It was a good performance in the first half yesterday from our lads, when we looked a very decent side, but the second half was all too familiar and mediocre, and most fans wanted to see the win yesterday – and we didn’t get it.
Maybe next Saturday against Liverpool at St. James’ Park.
Hope so.

Comment #41Ive never known a team so inconsistent as us from game to game and half to half. Yesterday’s second half was terrible. Looked like two different teams, has to be down to Pardews tactics. Or did they tire again? Trouble is they turned up the heat and we can’t handle it. NUFC needs a shake its been the same all season.

Comment #45If we win against liverpool which i dont think we will, that gives us 40pts and we should be safe. I would sack Pardew then or after our next loss. I would however hope that newcastle are talking to prospective managers behind the scenes at the moment. So its a quick appoinment.

Comment #46I’d take Steve Clarke as a replacement any day
– He has served his apprenticeship as a coach, much in the same way as Hoots
– He knows the club
– He was a solid centre half in his day
– Works a backline well
– Has coached at some of the top EPL clubs
– Thoroughly deserves a chance at a bigger club after his first FT management season
– Highly thought of as a coach by some of the bigger names in management
– Still SEES himself as a coach, not a power hungry unfulfilled manager
– Works well with what he has got
I have watched WBA a few times this year and there attacking intent, how they set up, off the ball discipline and shape is enviable, this is all down to Clarke. He also comes across as an affable guy who is realistic, honest and above all else – he knows the game!
Thoughts?

I would love to see someone from Dortmund come in, I think our model is very similar to what they have done over the years and NOT the Arsenal way.
They are a tight cohesive unit as a club, I really look on in admiration at them, and they will only get better!

Comment #51The sad thing is Beattie look at MA track records of mangers – all have been washed up british managers.
Keegan, Kinnear, Pardew
I think if he sacked Pardew he would appoint someone like
Steve Mclaren, alan curbishely – someone of that ilk clearly not good enough.

Comment #52I wonder how many points we have lost from being in a winning position? I reckon a lot more than what we have gained from coming back from a losing position. Don’t know the facts, it would be nice to know. There’s a challenge for one of the stato’s out there.

Comment #53jail for Ashley, yes this is your fav beefman with a name change refresher, I still support the owner, the owner has provided his manager with the ammunition, his manager has messed up, injuries or not, we still had a decent team on paper out there yesterday, it could have been stronger again but for his unwillingness to even rest certain players, what does anita think watching james perch who cannot put a foot on a ball for more than a milli second and just runs around sticking a toe in here or there, and Jonas, huff puff fall over, your original nursery rhyme player, is Anita thart bad or that much of a risk, he must be fresh as a daisy, no tiredness on his behalf.
MA hired Alan Pardew, that’s his mistake, he gave 8 year contracts to the coaching staff, on hignsight another mistake even though at the time, it did show we need stability and it was a good way to show we were going in the right direction.
I will still have an open mind, I will comment how I see it, I wont stick up for him because MA employed him, and I am pretty sure he wont get sacked anytime soon, I have mentioned quite a few times that we need to headhunt a top foreign coach to work alongside Pardew, it needs freshening up tactically big style, it has been like electric shock treatment for me this season, im drained, its been shocking!!!!

Comment #55Catchy- I, too, thought he was going to get sacked after the Reading game, but he wasn’t, and was given 4 new players – French internationals, to improve upon, but we are currently in the same position we was after the reading game- 16th. I think his time is up as our boss as I don’t think the fans want him anymore and I don’t think we’ll forget the 0-3 loss at home. It’s sad as I have backed him the whole season, with there being so many injuries, but it’s obvious he’s tactically inept and can’t manage this bunch of players.

They’d never have heard of him but could you imagine Pardew at Barcelona after the first 500 candidates had met sticky ends there’d be rioting in the streets !!
Liked the earlier comment which sums it up perfectly
_ _ _ _ _ _ _
All these players been listed as targets. How many want to come? Easier just to do this.
Out- pardew
In-manager with attacking minded play and a tactical brain to be tinker and change a game.
Honestly don’t think too many players are needed.A new manager alone could buy us 8 places

Comment #58not getting behind pardew now could result in relegation. we need to support him to the last day of the season so that we limp over the line into 17th place.
then the next day we must campaign for pardew to leave. there are so many technical european managers out there who would be orgasming over our squad
horses for courses, pardew was brought in when carroll was still here, made sense, as soon as he went we were doomed lol
you can only play defensive football for so long until the players get demoralised and their natural ability stifled
rumours of benitez, dont like him but leagues above pards. di matteo, solskjaer, hyypia, bergkamp, would take any of them

Comment #60Dragan Stojkovic for me if pardew goes! Hes Wengers recommendation to the board to take over at arsenal! The board need to actually interview a candidate and take them on based on their coaching, tactics and philosophy! If barca proved anything with Guardiola and villanova it is that experience isnt the be all and end all, the game has massively changed in last few years snd dinosaurs like redknapp, pardew, hughes etc are being found out

Comment #69Santon is one of my favourite players. It’d be madness to get rid of him. We do need to change things around a lot though. I still like to see these players at the club:
Remy
Benteke
Balde
Belhanda
Douglas
Alderweireld
Mbiwa wanted to go to Man Utd be we signed him. Alderweireld apparently wants to go to Liverpool, but we need to sign him. Anita may be able to persuade him to join. Most of our players are french speaking so he’ll fit in well.
I don’t mind if Cabaye and Tiote leaves. I feel we can get better players in that position. I still think Marveaux is the best playmaker in the squad by a country mile. If he wasn’t as injury prone he’d be in the France side. I rate him really highly. Very rarely gives the ball away, is good at running at players, creates chances, can strike the ball. Marveaux just needs a add a few more goals to his game.
Can’t believe Pardew didn’t play him at the start of the season. His decision making is terrible. Why paid £6.5m for Anita and not play him? Is he crazy?

Comment #75As soon as we sit back we lose. If we had fast wingers or a target man we could maybe catch them on the counter attack but instead we hoof it up towards Jonas or Cisse who can’t win headers. This is the tactics of a clueless man who would try to teach messi hoofball.
Maybe if we had messi we could aim for the top 9

Comment #77If we had a manager like Blanc, we’d be able to attract almost every player on the planet. I’m sure he’d transform us into a top 4 side. Pardew has to go. He doesn’t pick his best team and keeps playing Cabaye, Gutierrez and Tiote who are under-performing.

Comment #80Interesting, PADDY POWER, quoting 50/1 for Alan Pardew or Paolo di canio to be the next manager fired!
Interesting they see Pardew cemented this way, of course I don’t feel he will get the sack right now, he is just so TERRIFIED of LOOSING rather than thinking positively as he always calls it and going for the complete commited 90 min, WIN.
