Papiss Cisse Injured – Seeing Specialist In Paris

9:20 am, Tuesday, April 23rd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 58 Comments

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Papiss Cisse is now in Paris to see a specialist about a rib injury, after he suffered some discomfort after the 1-1 draw at West Brom on Saturday – what a way to start the day!

papiss cisse - I just scored fulham

Papiss Cisse – in Paris for diagnosis

The Senegal International suffered the injury – which is a small crack in a rib – in the quarter final tie against Benfica in the Europa League.

He is in Paris today to see a specialist and get the status of the condition, and to see whether he can play on for the last vital four games of the season.

Newcastle failed to replace Demba Ba when he left in January, even though we tried to sign striker Loic Remy from Marseilles – he preferred the big money at QPR to Newcastle.

So the only experienced strikers we would have if Papiss – heaven forbid – is ruled out for the rest of the season  - are Shola Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran, and Yoan showed he can put the ball into the back of the net on Saturday.

But scoring goals has been a problem for us even with Papiss in the side, and we suppose Alan Pardew could play young Adam Campbell up front, and the 18 year-old local lad has certainly looked more than a good young player this season.

So this is hardly a good situation for Newcastle to be in, with just four crucial games to go in the season, and it’s all down to poor planning, and the inability to get a good striker in during the January transfer window.

And why are our players all picking up injuries this season – all the time?

It cannot just be all bad luck.

Oh my – let’s think of some good news …….. hey Aston Villa were hammered 3-0 at Old Trafford last night and all four teams below us in the league lost their last game – so we gained one point on the lot of them – and our goal difference is supetior too.

Let’s hope the prognosis is that Papiss can continue to play on – and after all he does get a one week rest between games.

What do you think?

Shola to save our season then? :)

shola to doom our season then

  • 3 Rainrix // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:24 AM

@2…. Did shola crack papiss’ ribs like?

  • 4 Moe_UAE // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:26 AM

This is a very worrying news. Not sure who’s gonna step up to score the goals. Shola? Gouffran? Cabaye? Sissoko? ..
If he’s to miss the next game, I’d much rather see Gouffy playing in the center than seeing Shola starting.

  • 5 AwToonnufc // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:29 AM

I think that its clear to see that this 4-2-3-1 formation is not working but Pardew is being to stubborn. If it were my choice I would go back to 4-3-3 like last season. The main problem that I have noticed over the last load of games is that there’s only ever Cisse up front by himself, and he’s not in good enough form to do that. We should play 4-3-3 with ben arfa on the right and Marv on the left. Then play Gouffran in a ST role if Cisse is injured. My team choice would probably be this…..

    Elliot

    Debuchy–Taylor–Colo–M’biwa

    —————-Tiote—————–
    ——Cabaye———Sissoko——-

    Ben Arfa——Cisse—— Marveaux
    /Gouffran

Also Cheers for the hard work Ed, Much appreciated!

  • 6 Markaccus // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:29 AM

Goofy up front. Marv hba and cabs behind. Socks and perch/anita in mf. Whatever back 4 we can muster.
These personel can also be played ad a 433.

  • 7 Markaccus // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:31 AM

Aw…. would you persevere with tiote? Personally think he needs time on the naughty step.

  • 8 roshan MAGPIE // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:32 AM

goofy will be better than cisse has central forward this season because of cisse s current form

  • 9 lesh // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:33 AM

Worry not. If Cisse is injured rest assured Pardew’ll have a plan B up his sleeve. But first, he’s got to find his jacket!

  • 10 Tsunki // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:39 AM

I imagine Pardew as the season draws to a close like a Howard Hughes in his locked office, with the latest injury notes being slid under the door. Faint sobbing can be heard from within.

  • 11 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:39 AM

    Roshan,
Cisses current form? Hasn’t he got 5 goals in his last 8 games? That isn’t a bad record. Not to mention the one’s wrongly disallowed!

  • 12 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:41 AM

Also, there is no guarantee that Tiote or Marveaux will be fit to play either, still waiting for news on that.

  • 13 irish_mag // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:42 AM

This is bad news. Hopefully Goofy can step up and provide, flanked by Marv and HBA. Other than that all I see is Pards putting Shola up there and playing hoofball up to him for the remainder of the season. And that’s a scary thought.

  • 14 arctoa // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:42 AM

A simple solution would be Gouffran pushing up with a returning Ben Arfa taking his place in the team.

This is assuming he can’t play, of course. There are only a few games left and it can’t be that bad if he’s been playing with it since Benfica.

  • 15 roshan MAGPIE // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:43 AM

well I forgot that Lilongwe Geordie I guess because he misses so many chances in each and every game

  • 16 Tsunki // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:45 AM

I do hope we can knock a bore draw out against the scousers. How pathetic is that? At the start of the season we should have been betaing useless outfits like Man U every week according to Ketsy.

    :|

  • 17 Moe_UAE // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:46 AM

    roshan
I’d rather see missed chances = cisse
    Than no chances = shola

wonder why people keep putting HBA in their teams while the manager clearly mentioning that he’s in no shape to start games till end of season.

Forgotten man Obertan should get some chance ..

  • 18 G // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:47 AM

Gouffran with HBA up front for the rest of the season? No doubt AP will stick with Shola as a lone front man, something he clearly isn’t comfortable with, but I would prefer the pairing mentioned above.

  • 19 AlwaysTOON // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:47 AM

    fshola, bring on Campbell

  • 20 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:48 AM

    Roshan,
True, he seems to score 1 every 10 good chances at the minute.

  • 21 Greebol1892 // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Cisse has been in good form – OK missed a couple of chances but his work rate has been excellent with average service (i.e. Cabaye too deep!) and he has been scoring! Gouff has been one of our best players the last 2 games and would be good up front because of his work rate and knows where the goal is. Otherwise play Campbell up front! Don’t play the no.23 – he should be nowhere near our 1st team! All this “loyal servant” sh1t just annoys me, as does his constant non-football (lazy, too slow, always fouling, offside, can’t pass, can’t score, forces us to play hoofball, talks crap (remember him saying he could fill Wor Al’s boots!!!!!!). Awesome penalty taker but NOTHING else. SOS = S0d Off Shola, but it’s not your fault the gaffer keeps picking you. Hurry back Cisse! Hurry up end of season! We won’t go down because there are still Villa, Wigan & Stoke who are much worse than us (believe it or not).

  • 22 ichrisho // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:52 AM

This may just have saved our season…. Now lets see what Pardew can achieve without Mr.Offside… Is it the year 2000 again? … Shola and Harper in …. Old School… Nice :)

  • 23 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:52 AM

Obertan did score a hat trick for the development team as a striker last week. Problem solved! Look at you lot, worrying over nothing when we have had the gift of the Gab all along!

  • 24 arctoa // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:53 AM

The fact that Cisse has been in such rotten form but has still been getting vital goals shows that he’s a quality player, I think.

Obertan recently scored a hat-trick for the reserves and I do think he would make a better striker than a winger; his first touch and finishing is pretty good, and of course there’s his pace. It’s wasted out on the wings, as he can’t cross the ball or cut it inside to save his life.

Clearly a confidence player, so now might be the time to bring him back in. Scoring a hat-trick has got to feel good, no matter what level it’s at.

  • 25 Greebol1892 // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:54 AM

…. if Cisse cannot play then you can bet your house on no.23 on his own up front. HTL!

  • 26 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:54 AM

    Ichrisho,
There is No School like the Old School

  • 27 Mag.no // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:57 AM

Shola on top for the ramaining fixtures. Oh dear. Hoof it is!

Why not try something new Pardew(he does that against good teams now and then)? Campbell on top flanked by Marwaux and Ben Arfa in a 433. Against a poor Liverpool defence they should create something during 90+ mins with their pace and trickery. And i would love Campbell to be our savior!

  • 28 Ketsbaia9 // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:58 AM

It just shows you how poor the premier league is with teams like Man Utd winning the league. They wouldn’t stand a chance against Bayern, Real, Barcelona, Dortmund etc. Shearer’s right, the premier league is a lot worse than it was. Man Utd had the best team when they had Beckham, Ronaldo, Teves etc.

  • 29 winnynufc // Apr 23, 2013 at 9:59 AM

Why is everyone when naming there side they are leaving Haidara out of the team! He’s the only really natural left sided player we have barring Marv! He gives us a better balance on the left & in my opinion he has been sound defensivley! mbiwa decent CB but not sure about LB with bein right footed. Haidara all day for me 3 points Sat nice! HWTL.

  • 30 arctoa // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:00 AM

Talking of the old-school: I think Elliot has been cleared to play, but it would be nice to see Harper allowed to play out the season and surpass 200 games for the club. He’s hardly a liability in goal and, having been around for decades, could provide a calming influence and a true degree of leadership on the pitch. Cabaye leaves something to be desired as captain.

  • 31 ichrisho // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:01 AM

    Lilo – Sure isnt…. :)

Now its time to face the light Shola… Come and play… play damn you like you’ve never played before (Good)….

    I say go with Obertan… oh no wait thats a joke… sorry….
although I do remember someone saying that they wished Goofy would play upfront… now we have the chance… I bet he is awesome upfront… 2 golas against the Pool this week!!!! HWTL…

  • 32 arctoa // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:04 AM

I wouldn’t say that the Premier League as a whole has gotten a lot worse, but the top couple of teams have certainly slipped compared to their European counterparts. The Spanish league is pretty thin once you get beyond the usual suspects, for example. I don’t know a whole lot about the German league, but it seems competitive from an outsider looking in. They know how to run their clubs, too, and I’m certainly interested in their re-instatement of (properly-designed) terrace sections. Something was lost from the English game with the introduction of all-seater stadia.

  • 33 jordijohnty // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:05 AM

not a problem really. all we got to do is play gouffran as central striker like he did last season in france where he was one of the top scorers in the league. support him with marv and / or benny. simplesk. or play amoebi and KICK IT LONG. which will pards go for?

  • 36 barkel // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:10 AM

Call me crazy but how about we go to 4-4-2 if Cisse is out?

    Elliott
    Debuchy Tayls Yanga Haidara
    HBA Cabs Socks Jonas
    Shola Goufran

Anita can go right wing if hba isn’t fit for the full match

  • 37 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:10 AM

    Ibiza,
I saw that article earlier on the Times website. What a joke the man is, fair enough supporting his compatriot, but do it privately. Don’t make yourself a laughing stock.

  • 38 Moe_UAE // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:11 AM

Also why are people bringing up young Campbell? IMO he’s young and way inexperienced to start in such vital games.

Heck if not Obertan, I’d even give a chance to Anita on the wing with Gouffy up top over seeing no.23 (nice 1 Greebol). From what I saw, Anita is more than decent on the wing

  • 39 foggonridiculous // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:12 AM

I note that the Chronicle use the following wording:

“If Cisse was ruled out, it would leave the Magpies with limited options – with Shola Ameobi

the only other recognised senior striker.”
    (MY spacing).

Whatever COULD they be implying…. :-)

  • 40 ichrisho // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:13 AM

No-one wants Poyet… he is a slinky cheat as a player and manager… funk him… I cant undertsand a word he says either… Shola to save us this season… :)

Play Goofy upfront for 70 mins… and then bring the bigman on for the last 20 minutes… I think this may well be the catalyst for us staying up… No-one can say that, even with his goals, Cisse has looked comfortable since maybe last Novemeber… he is ALL over the place… and with BA leaving it seemed like something really hit home to him (As in sh!t where are the goals going to come from??? Oh yeah me!!!!… He needs a break… and a strike partner would be helpful… )

  • 41 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:13 AM

Lilongwe…I can see a little half arsed comment along the lines of “It was silly, he has apologised. I know him and he’s a good man really, blah blah” is one thing. But he’s almost gone on the attack against everyone else. I’d be embarrassed if that sort of thing happened at Newcastle, much like i was recently with the curious incidents involving the cosmos and the horse.

    Barkel…You’re crazy :)

  • 42 Transfer Sage // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:14 AM

German football is dominated by bayern…most years they are winning the league/cup

Spanish is dominated by real and barca

Same our league, dominated by man utd then usually one other, maybe 2.

This man utd side is very good, make no question about it. Narrowly beaten in champs league by one of the best teams in the world, and thats with 10 men.

    Poyet eyeing the Pool job????

  • 44 martoon // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:15 AM

Pardew has stated that HBA won’t start matches so I don’t know why you lot keep putting him in your lineups. He has been anonymous on his last two sub apprearances so there is clearly still something wrong..

What a player bayern has just signed in the form off gotze from Dortmund, yes 33 mill is a lot but just shows the thriving for success!! Yes are mould is great signing good players for low fees but if u want success great players cost u top money, Rvp for united? I think my heart would stop if Ashley paided 15 mill for a player never mind 33, but just shows investment brings success!! No investment u end up where we are, before people say about the 18 mill spent in jan yes that was great, buts that’s probz what Rvp has been paided this year, top wages and fees brings success

  • 47 Rainrix // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:17 AM

martoon…. In fairest we didn’t even have the ball for the last 10 minutes against WBA which was when he eventually got on. Fair enough against sunderland though as he was pretty poor yet so was the entire team :|

  • 48 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 23, 2013 at 10:19 AM

darren…I get what you’re saying, but investment doesn’t bring success, smart investment does. It’s a tricky balancing act, one that Man U generally do well with. However, to find an example of a team that don’t, well, look no further than our next opponents.

martoon…I think he has looked okay, but he just couldn’t get in to the West Brom game in that second half. In hindsight, he should have played in the first 45 when the majority of the game was played on the ground.

If Cisse is out for the Liverpool match, perhaps Pardew will play 5 defenders and 5 midfielders.
Start with a draw and play defensive for the whole 90 minutes.
After the inevitable defeat he will be “shocked” and “sorry” no doubt and of course blame our “awful injury situation”. The man will blame anything and anyone but his own inept tactics.

Would sooner see Saylor as a central striker than Shola.
Ameobi has nowt to offer this club any more.
If Papiss doesn’t make it we’re in trouble.
At the least give Campbell a chance – cometh the hour cometh the man. Who knows – he could be a life saver?

  • 54 toontillidie // Apr 23, 2013 at 12:25 PM

6 pts above the drop zone 12 points to play for games left against Scouse and the gunners at home 2 points there

Away at West Ham 3 points there and away at QPR 3 points there so in reality we have 8 out of 12 points to play for and i am sure we can do it teams to go down i think will be reading Wigan and QPR and we will finish just above the drop zone in 16th with only scumderland below us in 17th thats how i feel its gonna finish for us HWTL

  • 55 toontillidie // Apr 23, 2013 at 12:28 PM

then we can concentrate on next season and thats when all you pardew haters should be calling for his head why unsettle the team more than they are by replacing the manager this close to the end of the season thats what we did when Wor Al took over with just a few games remaining and we went down so get behind pards and the team for the closing games of the season HWTL

If he is out for the rest of the season. I swear to god he best play Gouffran up top. With Benny and Marv if not guti either side. I f Ameobi starts and we play Stoke City football I may just commit. In all serious I really wanna see Gouffran upfront not as a winger.
