Papiss Cisse Injured – Seeing Specialist In Paris

The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Papiss Cisse is now in Paris to see a specialist about a rib injury, after he suffered some discomfort after the 1-1 draw at West Brom on Saturday – what a way to start the day!

papiss cisse - I just scored fulham

Papiss Cisse – in Paris for diagnosis

The Senegal International suffered the injury – which is a small crack in a rib – in the quarter final tie against Benfica in the Europa League.

He is in Paris today to see a specialist and get the status of the condition, and to see whether he can play on for the last vital four games of the season.

Newcastle failed to replace Demba Ba when he left in January, even though we tried to sign striker Loic Remy from Marseilles – he preferred the big money at QPR to Newcastle.

So the only experienced strikers we would have if Papiss – heaven forbid – is ruled out for the rest of the season  – are Shola Ameobi and Yoan Gouffran, and Yoan showed he can put the ball into the back of the net on Saturday.

But scoring goals has been a problem for us even with Papiss in the side, and we suppose Alan Pardew could play young Adam Campbell up front, and the 18 year-old local lad has certainly looked more than a good young player this season.

So this is hardly a good situation for Newcastle to be in, with just four crucial games to go in the season, and it’s all down to poor planning, and the inability to get a good striker in during the January transfer window.

And why are our players all picking up injuries this season – all the time?

It cannot just be all bad luck.

Oh my – let’s think of some good news …….. hey Aston Villa were hammered 3-0 at Old Trafford last night and all four teams below us in the league lost their last game – so we gained one point on the lot of them – and our goal difference is supetior too.

Let’s hope the prognosis is that Papiss can continue to play on – and after all he does get a one week rest between games.

What do you think?

This is a very worrying news. Not sure who’s gonna step up to score the goals. Shola? Gouffran? Cabaye? Sissoko? ..
If he’s to miss the next game, I’d much rather see Gouffy playing in the center than seeing Shola starting.

I think that its clear to see that this 4-2-3-1 formation is not working but Pardew is being to stubborn. If it were my choice I would go back to 4-3-3 like last season. The main problem that I have noticed over the last load of games is that there’s only ever Cisse up front by himself, and he’s not in good enough form to do that. We should play 4-3-3 with ben arfa on the right and Marv on the left. Then play Gouffran in a ST role if Cisse is injured. My team choice would probably be this…..

    Elliot

    Debuchy–Taylor–Colo–M’biwa

    —————-Tiote—————–
    ——Cabaye———Sissoko——-

    Ben Arfa——Cisse—— Marveaux
    /Gouffran

Also Cheers for the hard work Ed, Much appreciated!

Worry not. If Cisse is injured rest assured Pardew’ll have a plan B up his sleeve. But first, he’s got to find his jacket!

I imagine Pardew as the season draws to a close like a Howard Hughes in his locked office, with the latest injury notes being slid under the door. Faint sobbing can be heard from within.

    Roshan,
Cisses current form? Hasn’t he got 5 goals in his last 8 games? That isn’t a bad record. Not to mention the one’s wrongly disallowed!

This is bad news. Hopefully Goofy can step up and provide, flanked by Marv and HBA. Other than that all I see is Pards putting Shola up there and playing hoofball up to him for the remainder of the season. And that’s a scary thought.

A simple solution would be Gouffran pushing up with a returning Ben Arfa taking his place in the team.

This is assuming he can’t play, of course. There are only a few games left and it can’t be that bad if he’s been playing with it since Benfica.

I’d rather see missed chances = cisse
    Than no chances = shola

wonder why people keep putting HBA in their teams while the manager clearly mentioning that he’s in no shape to start games till end of season.

Forgotten man Obertan should get some chance ..

Gouffran with HBA up front for the rest of the season? No doubt AP will stick with Shola as a lone front man, something he clearly isn’t comfortable with, but I would prefer the pairing mentioned above.

Cisse has been in good form – OK missed a couple of chances but his work rate has been excellent with average service (i.e. Cabaye too deep!) and he has been scoring! Gouff has been one of our best players the last 2 games and would be good up front because of his work rate and knows where the goal is. Otherwise play Campbell up front! Don’t play the no.23 – he should be nowhere near our 1st team! All this “loyal servant” sh1t just annoys me, as does his constant non-football (lazy, too slow, always fouling, offside, can’t pass, can’t score, forces us to play hoofball, talks crap (remember him saying he could fill Wor Al’s boots!!!!!!). Awesome penalty taker but NOTHING else. SOS = S0d Off Shola, but it’s not your fault the gaffer keeps picking you. Hurry back Cisse! Hurry up end of season! We won’t go down because there are still Villa, Wigan & Stoke who are much worse than us (believe it or not).

The fact that Cisse has been in such rotten form but has still been getting vital goals shows that he’s a quality player, I think.

Obertan recently scored a hat-trick for the reserves and I do think he would make a better striker than a winger; his first touch and finishing is pretty good, and of course there’s his pace. It’s wasted out on the wings, as he can’t cross the ball or cut it inside to save his life.

Clearly a confidence player, so now might be the time to bring him back in. Scoring a hat-trick has got to feel good, no matter what level it’s at.

Shola on top for the ramaining fixtures. Oh dear. Hoof it is!

Why not try something new Pardew(he does that against good teams now and then)? Campbell on top flanked by Marwaux and Ben Arfa in a 433. Against a poor Liverpool defence they should create something during 90+ mins with their pace and trickery. And i would love Campbell to be our savior!

It just shows you how poor the premier league is with teams like Man Utd winning the league. They wouldn’t stand a chance against Bayern, Real, Barcelona, Dortmund etc. Shearer’s right, the premier league is a lot worse than it was. Man Utd had the best team when they had Beckham, Ronaldo, Teves etc.

Why is everyone when naming there side they are leaving Haidara out of the team! He’s the only really natural left sided player we have barring Marv! He gives us a better balance on the left & in my opinion he has been sound defensivley! mbiwa decent CB but not sure about LB with bein right footed. Haidara all day for me 3 points Sat nice! HWTL.

Talking of the old-school: I think Elliot has been cleared to play, but it would be nice to see Harper allowed to play out the season and surpass 200 games for the club. He’s hardly a liability in goal and, having been around for decades, could provide a calming influence and a true degree of leadership on the pitch. Cabaye leaves something to be desired as captain.

I wouldn’t say that the Premier League as a whole has gotten a lot worse, but the top couple of teams have certainly slipped compared to their European counterparts. The Spanish league is pretty thin once you get beyond the usual suspects, for example. I don’t know a whole lot about the German league, but it seems competitive from an outsider looking in. They know how to run their clubs, too, and I’m certainly interested in their re-instatement of (properly-designed) terrace sections. Something was lost from the English game with the introduction of all-seater stadia.

Also why are people bringing up young Campbell? IMO he’s young and way inexperienced to start in such vital games.

Heck if not Obertan, I’d even give a chance to Anita on the wing with Gouffy up top over seeing no.23 (nice 1 Greebol). From what I saw, Anita is more than decent on the wing

I note that the Chronicle use the following wording:

“If Cisse was ruled out, it would leave the Magpies with limited options – with Shola Ameobi

the only other recognised senior striker.”
    (MY spacing).

Whatever COULD they be implying…. 🙂

No-one wants Poyet… he is a slinky cheat as a player and manager… funk him… I cant undertsand a word he says either… Shola to save us this season… 🙂

Play Goofy upfront for 70 mins… and then bring the bigman on for the last 20 minutes… I think this may well be the catalyst for us staying up… No-one can say that, even with his goals, Cisse has looked comfortable since maybe last Novemeber… he is ALL over the place… and with BA leaving it seemed like something really hit home to him (As in sh!t where are the goals going to come from??? Oh yeah me!!!!… He needs a break… and a strike partner would be helpful… )
