Luis Suarez has been banned for 10 games by the FA this afternoon – for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic on Sunday afternoon, in front of a worldwide TV audience.
Luis Suarez – yummy yummy
That seems to us a reasonable sentence for a guy who bit a PSV player in 2010 while he was at Ajax, and he got a seven match ban for that, so a stiffer penalty this time seems in order.
And of course it means he misses the game against Newcastle United on Saturday – which is good news for us because he is a great player – and he will also miss the first six games of next season.
This is what the FA Statement said:
“Luis Suarez has been suspended for a total of ten matches after an Independent Regulatory Commission today ruled on a charge of violent conduct.”
“A three-person Independent Regulatory Commission today upheld The FA’s claim that a suspension of three matches was clearly insufficient, and the player will serve a further seven first-team matches in addition to the standard three. The suspension begins with immediate effect.” (good)
“This follows an incident with Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic in Sunday’s fixture at Anfield.” “The Liverpool forward had accepted a charge of violent conduct but had denied The FA’s claim that the standard three-match sanction was insufficient for the offence.”
“The incident was not seen by the match officials and has therefore been retrospectively reviewed – click here for a video explanation of ‘not seen incidents’.”
“Suarez has until midday on Friday 26 April to appeal the additional suspension, above the standard three matches.”
The Liverpool Managing Director Ian Ayre said the club were shocked at the severity of the ban:
“Both the club and player are shocked and disappointed at the severity of today’s Independent Regulatory Commission decision,” “We await the written reasons tomorrow before making any further comment.”
The sentence seems to us to be appropriate, and why would Liverpool appeal the ban, if Suarez has already done this stuff before and received a seven match ban for it in November, 2010 – he obviously didn’t learn his lesson.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

actually .. i think it was crying out to be said….. pardew should look at mourinho as his example… he knows when his team plays Sh1te he admits it … i cannot understand for the life of me Pardews excuses these days…
for me there is enough for pardew to go but there is enough for pardew to stay injuries and such…

Comment #362Mourinho, so much Pards isn’t and should aim to be, and he probably is about to get the sack.

Comment #369Another point on German foot all, every stadium is always packed. 1. Due to the passion. 2. Due to the prices.
I hate the fact that Wigan and Sunderland can be in the PL and have half empty stadiums. Disgrace.

Comment #371I think Pards was a reasonable choice to replace Hughton in hindsight, but it is wishful thinking to imagine he’s gonna be the guy to take us to that next level again. Without a ton of support anyways.
8 year contract, fortunately it probably isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

It’s got to the point where when I read people mocking Pardew like that, I read it in his voice and it see his face, and it gets me just as wound up as if he’d actually said it.

You forgot to mention the Burundian FA for turning Bigis head earlier this year and the British government for allowing over 18s to drink.

They’ll replace them with players from central or Eastern Europe for a fraction of the price.
Gotze is already replaced by youth players. Watch out for Bittencourt and Leitner.

Comment #380I’m gonna try putting the Toon in a box at the back of the cupboard for a while and concentrate on the Champions League.
Which after the last 2 days I realise is that much more life affirming at the mo, actually entirely so.

Comment #383I know they have players that can possibly replace Götze. Question is who is their Lewandowski replacement, and what else will they buy with that two times Carroll transfer kitty. Anyhow, it might go into securing their current player with higher salaries.

Comment #384I read the Journal article earlier on in respect of the story that Percy was prepared to have anther coach. There are no quotes or attributions to the story. Might be true equally might not.
Link to article :-
http://www.journallive.co.uk/nufc/2013/04/24/alan-pardew-ready-to-bring-in-a-new-coach-at-newcastle-united-61634-33225771/
I really think Percy has to be replaced in the summer. I know of no evidence that suggests he will change his style -additionally I do not think that he is the sort of person who could adopt to modern practices. Really need to get some new blood in. Whilst he probably has tried his best and worked hard -it is simply not good enough. The object should be improving the team not wasting another season or half a season in the hopeful expectation that he might improve -we should not be waiting for the manager to improve – if he’s in post he should be the finished article.
Really he has to go.

If Dortmund wins they will be even more expensive signings since they would miss out on some prize money, If only score nothing special since they probably already have been threaten to death by their own supporters. Scoring against Dortmund next year on the other hand. We will see.

Comment #388I knew PEA was 185 but thought Lewandowski was 190 but he’s 184.
This season:
PEA 31 17 13
LEW 27 23 7 (CL 11 10 2 )
PEA 23 years old and Lew 24 years old

Comment #389Fully expect Liverpool to appeal this ban they are so arrogant that you actually have their players supporting him dont be surprised to see them wearing shirts supporting him like they did after his racial abuse ban.Unless the FA respond immediately after any appeal ithink he will play on Saturday. If Liverpool are stupid enough to launch a pointless appeal it only means he will probably miss 7 or 8 games at the start of next season.could mean they are going to have to spend big

Comment #393I think it also depends on if Sochaux is getting relegated. Arsenal are said to be going for him as well but I guess it depends on if the sell Sagna. He has relegation clause, and Boudebouz as well.
Would be nice to pick them up cheap to add squad depth.
Boudebouz instead of Obertan and Corchia instead of Simpson.
