When Davide Santon sustained his hamstring injury against Fulham, and it looked a bad one, it didn’t look like he would return this season, and Alan Pardew has today said that’s indeed the case.
Davide Santon – being carried off against Fulham
Alan met with reporters today, and he was asked about the status of the Italian International, who has had a particularly good season in only his second term on Tyneside.
This is what the Newcastle manager said about the 22 year-old:
“I think Santon is struggling for the rest of the season.” “There’s an outside chance for the Arsenal game.” “It means that Massaido Haidara will step in at left-back for the duration of the season.”
The 8 times capped Italian left-back has been ruled out of the next three matches for sure, and there seems very little chance he will make the final game of the season – at home to Arsenal on Sunday May 19th – and let’s hope we are safe from relegation by that time. 🙁
Davide has become a much better player since he joined us just two years ago from Inter-Milan, and there’s little doubt that some Italian clubs will be after him this summer, but we must keep him at Newcastle.
Davide has played 38 times this season, with one good goal at Wigan, and in total he’s made 65 appearances for the Magpies.
Massadio Haidara – good chance for the 20 year-old
This will give a good chance to Massadio Haidara to get a run in the side, and so far the 20 year-old French U21 international had made seven appearances for Newcastle since signing in January. and he’s looked very good.
We think there will be a battle next season as to which of these two very good young players, is the starter at left back for Newcastle next season.
And that competition will only be good for the side.

The margins between success and failure are wafer thin. One bad reffing decision, a ball spinning off a post instead of in. That would have been six points to us and one point above Swansea. Would we then be getting all this Ibiza/Beattie arguing black is white about an unproven manager but truly great player ?
Expectations for the Toon far exceed the ability of the side and management to deliver at present.
We do have to be patient.
We do have to take a longer view.
This season has been pretty painful for a lot of us but the witchfinder generals on here are a real throwback. Pardew didn’t float with that weight tied round his ankles so he must be a witch.
Football is rarely pure and never simple.
I think the Ibiza line is purely pragmatic – and certainly not Pardew-loving – a school boy level jibe. I’m totally in this camp. All I want is enough strikers and a new winger to have quality backup for Cisse, some real strengthening of the coaching side which bothers me – a review of our medical strategy and a top top sports psychologist.
Oh and a trophy before I die

1. Simmo and willo got blame as they were the worst two by far in the team. Both made mistakes, both can’t pass a football and bother shouldn’t have been playing for newcastle but we never signed anyone in the summer. The fact they have no been replaced suggests that as fans we were right, they were the weak link.
Jonas is a winger, a position where you mainly attack, 3 goals and 3 assists is a joke in 2 seasons. Why can’t the man learn to even cross a ball by the time he is 29 I have no idea.
Cisse, never given him stick personally, think he was hard done to this season playing right side, not his game.
2. Shortsighted? hardly. This is long term problems with Pardew. The man hasn’t changed the style he plays with since he first came through the door, only difference is he has better players who can keep it on the floor. Less long balls but the same ‘lets sit in our half and defend for 90 mins’ attitude which I personal;y find not only dull to watch but it isn’t even working this season, so why not try to change? he is too set in his ways.
3.Patience…i don’t mind waiting to see us move up the table but i don’t believe pardew is the man to take us there on a regular basis. Would you walk from newcastle to london if somebody offered you a free lift? course not. Patience is fine but in context…we won’t go anywhere long term with pardew.
Just my own views, can’t claim fact but from everything i have seen with us and in his history it’s my view on pardew.

Comment #92yo-yo; I know what you’re saying but every team in the league will point to deciscions that went against them that may / would have changed the result of a game.

Honestly he earned it with myself, I was very hard on him when he joined the blog and throughout his predictions he took it in his stride. Also he is up front and honest with how he comes by his information
Added to that he’s yet to drop a bollock as far as I’ve noticed (and am a sh*t for spying when itks do)

The argument has been that Laudruop is a success and Pardew a failure yet as Sazzer poijted out there’s only five points between them – I’m saying that difference can be accounted for by bad luck alone.
I do think Laudrup will prove to be an excellent manager in time and I loved him as a player but he isn’t the best thing since sliced bread or even that much of an upgrade on proven performance. He has yet to finish 5th, though he has won a cup.
Agree we have had a shite season though

I predicted in december we would sign 4-6 players in jan…was right.
And just 2 days ago i said i’d been told we paid a lot of expenses in south america which they think can only be down to scouting, we have nothing else there.
But in all fairness torq has more player knowledge on deals than me. I just have business side off my friend and we try to piece it together with media stories/interest…so never anything concrete, just try to add substance to rumour.

It’s not fair to compare anyway….both have had different squads, on with a vast amount of internationals….the other with swansea.
But it also doesn’t take into account injuries.
ps. seen this before but post again…got to love dortmund’s training machine…should lock will in there for a week and see what happens.

Areet mate, a well thought out post and probably deserves a well thought out reply
Oh well 🙂
1)Blame
Your right, this place loves a scapegoat!! However when something is going badly or against us there is normally a degree of blame somewhere, but I agree it’s not solely on one player for a whole season!
Lets take the players you’ve listed
Simmo
Personally got nothing against simmo, he’s fairly quiet and goes about his buisness hadn’t made a fuss about losing his spot and I actually think he’s improved with the competition debuchy has bought in
But I don’t think he’s of a standard that most see he should be at given the targets put out by the club ie constantly challenging from Europe
But yeah he got a stupid amount if blame I even remember a few lads blaming him and he wasn’t even playing!
Willo
I actually like Willo and once again thought a lot of blame aimed towards him is b/s and think he’s quiet a dependable player
Jonas
Once Again think a lot had been aimed at him unfairly, it’s not his fault he’s picked ahead of some bloggers preferred choice’s or asked to do shifts in different positions, for me 9/10 he’s gives 100% on the pitch
Cisse
I’ve given him some stick this season, mainly because i fell Ba took an unnatural amount of abuse for cisse’s form
Well ba has gone, his form has picked up a bit, but a player should be able to stay onside! That’s my biggest frustration with him, which as a fan I don’t feel I have to blindly support him and like any pro in any sport he should be open to deserved critism
This goes mainly for tiote this season for me, his work rate, attitude application and performances have been shocking, and as a supporter of the team I’d rather see him out of the line up for the good of the team
2) yes I think as fans we are shortsighted, many forget we were in the championship not long ago!
But at the same time, being a blog we gave no idea how old or how long some have supported the toon and after a lifetime of spending there wages following the toon they feel a club of our stature should be were we are and simply want to see us reach the potential were more than capable of
3) patience
This point I disagree slightly on
Modern football is a fast fast evolving enterprise on and off the pitch last season we excelled most people’s expectations through a summer of hard work very smart signings and a good work ethic on the pitch
This summer we stood still, you simply can’t do that in football these days, you’ll get left behind
The club was naive and it’s cost us this season imo
Building for the future is a fantastic blueprint, it really is but we have to make sure the club of the present is heading in the right direction for that to succeed and scraping relegation isn’t the way to go
Now imho you can’t label a fan on these expectancies, a fan who’s more ambitious is no bigger fan than one that’s just happy to go and see the team each week and vice versa
Each fan will hold different opinions and ambitions of the club the team and the manager but none of it really matters asking as the lads our supported for those 90 mins each week
My last point is as fans we hold no obligation to the club, we owe them nothing, we don’t have to support them
We support them becuase we want, whether that’s because of origin, family or just because you saw them play once and have followed them ever since
We owe them nothing yet we give undying loyalty to the toon and follow them week in week out and you can’t question anyone’s passion or commitment to the club when fans from all over are on here day in day out arguing to mute points to death over there passion
But the club? That’s the difference, the club owe us fans everything and if as fans we feel there not doing everything in there power to ensure the clubs success, then I can’t begrudge any fan voicing there frustrations

Comment #114Benitez would allow us to attract better players since he’s well-known manager, also back in the day he transformed Valencia into a attacking team and got them back to back Champions League final and won spanish league.
He said to be a business man type of guy so he might buy in on Ashley vision (or lack of it)
He wants to stay and live in England so he might drop his demands and see us as a challenge.
So it’s could be good thing if he comes.
On the otherside he likes to bring in a lot of players. So got in to fight with Inter because he wasn’t allowed to buy anyone and with Liverpool board because they wanted to buy Robbie Keane or something along those line.
