Season Far From Successful But Players Still Confident

8:56 am, Friday, April 26th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 43 Comments

Alan Pardew has talked today about his squad, and that the lads are felling the pressure but there is still a lot fo confidence in the group – which is very important.

Alan Pardew – players are confident

Alan Pardew was on the interview circuit yesterday, before tomorrow’s very important game against Liverpool, where our lads can lighten up the mood on Tyneside with a win – but we really need all 3 points tomorrow – and after all we have home advantage – and hopefully anohter sell-out crowd.

This is what Alan told the Shields Gazette.

“They feel a bit of pressure,” “It comes from having a very successful last season, and having a season at the moment that is far from that.”

“That’s the reality – there’s no hiding place from that. This is where you find out the character within in the group.”

“From what I’ve seen on the training ground this week, there’s a good sense we will be able to prove that with a good performance and three points.”

“The new French players are less affected, because they don’t quite understand how the feeling is or can be here,” “The most important thing is they look confident.”

“You look at West Brom and we had a difficult second half in terms of retaining the ball and adding pressure on them.” “But we still defended really well, and with some spirit. “

“In the first half we showed we haven’t lost confidence in the group.” “That’s an important factor when you are at the bottom of the league. We need to make sure we build on that.”

But the team still has everything to do in the last four games of the season and we have to fo better than we’ve done in the last seven league games where we have just two wins ans a draw top show for it – a paltry 5 points from the 21 available.

That’s pathetic, but there’s no excuses now since those games were played while we had games in the Europa League.

We need a win on Saturday – and if we cannot do that we have to puck up at least a point – a defeat would be another disaster.

Comments welcome.

Note – many thanks to those who filled out that questionnaire earlier in the week – this is the response I got from Bernic Gebhardt this morning – who is organizing the research on Premier League clubs at the Technical University of Munich, Germany in collaboration with Penn State in the US:.

Thanks a lot for your response. Newcastle fans are really energized, we have nearly 250 questionnaires filled out by Newcastle fans 😀

ichrisho…Sounds like some begrudging optimism there. Don’t see this being a walk in the park, but I do think Liverpool will miss that killer instinct without Suarez, 1-0 or 2-1 to the toon.

    Ian Toon
Thanks for the response,it reminded me of when the turtle got flipped onto its back and then struggled to right its self before continuing its journey.

Rainrix…Remember to get a number when you arrive, don’t want to be back of the line.

Torq…Don’t you do it! :) Good morning.

  • 7 toonbrother // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:08 AM

Pardumb’s problem is he talks so much and doesnt have the results to match. He’s the exact opposite of the guy they have at Southampton. Pardumb learn to shut up every now and then and focus instead on picking the right team. Then you can talk!!!

    “paltry……..pathetic…… another disaster”

    Ed’s subtle, hidden message.

  • 9 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:12 AM

Ibiza… Please im at the front of the line when it comes to bashing the P man :)

    Still optimistic about this weekend?

  • 10 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:18 AM

Ibiza – Begrudging – How dare thee…??? Its friday right… and after a weeks rest – I have built back up my fight for the toon… plus my brother and best friend are Pool fans… its an important one this weekend for me… those bin dippers are always laughing at us…

  • 11 martoon // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:18 AM

toonbrother – Pardew like all managers is obliged to do a certain amount of press conferences and interviews. He is obviously going to be asked questions on the state of Newcastle etc which obvously he has to answer and defend himself. It would be pretty boring if he sat there and didn’t speak, the guy at Southampton claims he can’t speak English but it seemed pretty good when he was blasting the ref the other week.

im depicting what you’re really saying alan, i cant help it because you are so full of crap.

“They feel a bit of pressure,” “It comes from having a very successful last season, and having a season at the moment that is far from that.”

the pressure is coming from not trying against our rivals and for the majority of the season in the league, that is why we are where we are. if we were mid table it would still be classed as not a very good season but the pressure wouldnt be there.

    ————————–

“That’s the reality – there’s no hiding place from that. This is where you find out the character within in the group.”

so you have had most of these players for over 2 years and you’re just starting to understand their character now!

    ———————————

“From what I’ve seen on the training ground this week, there’s a good sense we will be able to prove that with a good performance and three points.”

so you dont see this on the training ground every week?
    very worrying.
    ———–
“You look at West Brom and we had a difficult second half in terms of retaining the ball and adding pressure on them.” “But we still defended really well, and with some spirit. “

in this bit he is defending his second half defensive tactics to hold onto a 1-0 lead with the 3rd worst defence in the league.

Rainrix… You on a first initial basis with the man now? Impressive.

Always optimistic. Each game brings new opportunity.

  • 14 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:19 AM

Ok guys – Lets make an agreement – No pardew bashing today. Lets stay positive and discuss tactics or newcastle women or anything… poor aul’ pardew has nothing left..

  • 15 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:24 AM

    ichrisho…Apologies :)

  • 16 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:25 AM

Ibiza… Well i have been to a few pardew parties in my time, he calls me R daaawwwg in return :)

I used to be like that, then i realised nothing changes. Everything’s so much simpler now, you’d like it! At the very least i dont get internally very angry at all the neggars anymore :)

  • 17 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:25 AM

Ichrisho….What a novel idea. Okay then,

    tactics…Pardews rubbish! Whoops…

    Best start with Women…

  • 18 Generic Commenter // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:26 AM

    @14

    Newcastle women Out!!!

  • 19 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:27 AM

Newcastle women? Calling them women is a bit of a stretch like! :)

  • 20 Ian Toon // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:27 AM

Jail – I did realise that I would be wasting my time. I saw it somewhat like giving money to someone claiming to want to buy food; but knowing that it would likely go on drugs/ drink. But doing it anyway!

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:29 AM

R Dawwwwwwg….Wassup? Do you two have a cool secret handshake too? Getting slightly jealous.

Sounds like an extremely defeatist attitude there mate, very if you can’t beat them, join them.

Not a lot seems to be changing, agreed. I have taken the approach that I don’t expect much change this season, just want to see some points, which we can and have got in the past with Pardew, which will / should hopefully see us safe this season. Then it’s a blank canvas and we’ll see what they do.

  • 22 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:31 AM

Newcastle Ladies are the Bomb… That accent – OOOfftt…. for an Irish guy it makes me knees weak… Am I not living in the reality here?

Ibiza – Padrews tactics rubbish hilarious :)

  • 23 Rotonda heights // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:32 AM

Just reading the last thread and I don’t know if Pardew deliberately lies or just has a very selective memory.

We hear his endless whining about injuries and tiredness but correct me if I’m wrong but 6M Dutch international Anita can not get a game (ahead of Perch) in Pardew’s system and Bigi played before Obertan V Benfica when pace was desperately needed. Marveaux is also often on the bench.

Tiote and Jonas are played over Anita and Haidara. Yes Cabaye was injured for a while and Benny courtesy of stupidity is a long term absentee, but is it really as dire as Pardew makes out.

Shola and Saylor have been hopeless but Pardew plays the Geordie card and it will be M’Biwa / Haidara dropped not Saylor when Colo is fit.

Pardew will take all the plaudits but none of the blame. He makes my skin crawl.

  • 24 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:33 AM

Ibiza… Defeatist yes but tbh im in the same boat as you at this stage. I dont care how we get them i just want points and to survive. Im still chirpy about the future though. We have the best squad we’ve had for a very long time now. Summer being crucial is an understatement.

  • 25 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:33 AM

I love the geordie accent, it’s the best one out there.

Interested about that word reality, what is it?

  • 26 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:34 AM

ichrisho… I take it you’ve never seen “geordie shore”? :)

  • 27 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:34 AM

if we play a 4-2-3-1 tactic tomorrow i’m afraid we are gonna lose against Liverfool, i say we adopt a 433 attacking

    Elliot
    Debuchy, Taylor, MYM, Haidara
    Cabaye, Anita, Sissoko
    HBA, Cisse, Goofy

if we don’t plat this team and tactic we will get smashed by Liverfool end off

  • 28 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:35 AM

See in the papers today that Arsene Wenger is saying that Chelsea are gonna blow everyone outta the water with teir purchases this summer… If Falcao and Paulinho go there… I’ll be raging.. that guy is 10 times better than Aguero… and he be pretty good…

  • 29 Rotonda heights // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:37 AM

    ichrisho

Sorry couldn’t do it. Need my fix!!!!

  • 30 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:37 AM

Geordie Shore – Yes I have. I dont think those wagon wheels are a good show of what is on offer in Newcastle… oh wait – Are you saying that is the quality…???? Oh dear… Wheres my Cheryl Cole look-a-likes???

Ibiza – Reality… Yeah finding it hard to understand that word on here myself… In reality a night out with all of ye might turn… I think that we should all get up to Newcastle and have a 6th Year anniversary party… or we could go to Ibiza???

  • 31 ToonDownSouth // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:38 AM

    The 4-2-3-1 doesn’t work because it’s not a 4-2-3-1!

Jonas cannot be counted as an attacking midfielder, and he sits so deep that naturally the other two AM’s do too.

We just play a 4-4-1-1 / 4-4-2, then dress it up for the team sheet.

  • 32 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:38 AM

Rotonda – Cool… I understand… I was like that after that Press Conference yesterday… he gives me the shits… :)

  • 33 magpie6699 // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:39 AM

    Imagined:
    quotes from West Brom manager.
“We put in a decent performance against Newcastle. We thoroughly deserved our point. In the first half we seemed sluggish and were probably lucky to be only 1-0 down But in the second half we raised our game, equalised and could have gone on to win it”
    WBA fans blog:
“What an idiot! We were playing a team near the bottom of the EPL and let them dictate in the first half. And why does he keep playing his favourites. I really thought this season we were going places but we’re no more than a mediocre mid-table bunch who let a good start to the season slip. Clarke out!”
My point? We assume that WBA came back into the game purely because we played badly / defensively. Perhaps they began to play much better and made it difficult for us??

  • 34 Rainrix // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:40 AM

ichrisho…. Oh dear you’re going to be disappointed then! Its kinda like leatherfaces butcher room most nights :)

  • 35 Dubaigeordie // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:40 AM

Off topic but just looking at Andreas Weimann again on youtube after being linked with him and he seems a quality player and would love to seem him playing in black and white next season!

But also if villa go down i dont see why we dont go for a few other players as well like benteke agbonlahor.
what do you guys think ?

  • 36 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:41 AM

if jonas plays tomorrow Pardew is looking for a defensive approach to the game

  • 37 Rotonda heights // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:42 AM

    Black and white army

How dare you suggest such a good team !!
It’s the same as mine man for man and should have been the team for the last 10 games.

Will it happen? I think we all know the answer to that as you haven’t found a place for Jonas and Tiote!!

  • 38 ichrisho // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:43 AM

R-Dawg – Really? Ah Man – Where be all the ladies at in Newcastle? I have seen a couple of stunners but they usually are hanging off some hulk of a fella whos all tanned up and for some reason has pretty eyelashes… Dang!!!

  • 39 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:43 AM

    Dubaigeordie

i would love to see those players at the toon it gives more pace to the side plus weimann is only 21 years old and has loads of time to develop

  • 40 Ian Toon // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:44 AM

Ibiza- Good Morning. Hope your right with your forecast. What’s your record to date? Only kidding! Thought your unstinting attempts
to provide a cogent response to the recurgitated Pardew out brigade was commendable. It’s really all just a results issue. A win tomorrow will lift the mood and the level of discussion. I can see us scoring a few and go for a 3-1 win. Remember when Cabaye plays well we win. I hope not to have to provide statistical support for my opinion.

  • 41 Black and White with an army lol // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:46 AM

    Rotonda heights

very true mate i just don’t see it happening, Pard’s will set up his team to an extent that he must play jonas, tiote and shola
    which is stupid IMO

  • 42 Ian Toon // Apr 26, 2013 at 9:51 AM

Those criticising Pardew’s statements should listen to the garbage coming out of Brendan Rodgers mouth. He talks endless drivel in support of Suarez. Dalglish was misguided does it just go with the territory?

  • 43 Rotonda heights // Apr 26, 2013 at 10:41 AM

    Ian Toon

2 wrongs don’t make a right or excuse pardew’s nonsense
