Cheick Tiote returns to the starting line-up against Liverpool today after recovering from injury, but Ben Arfa starts on the bench and Coloccini isn’t even in the match-day squad.
And a bit of a surprise in that Yoan Gouffran – our goalscorer last week – is benched to make way for Tiote, so it looks like it’s a 4-3-3 formation – with Sissoko, Cisse and Gutierrez the front three.
For Liverpool – Sturridge starts up front in place of the suspended Luis Suarez, and former Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique starts.
And Newcastle have been let off the hook as Wigan went 2-1 ahead of Tottenham after 49 minutes, but would you believe it, an Emerson Boyce own goal after 89 minutes made the score 2-2 – and that’s a massive two points lost by Wigan.
But it shows we have to save ourselves and cannot rely on other sides losing games.
A win will take Newcastle into 13th place and 8 points above the drop zone.
We wish!!!

Comment #3Why no Gouffran or HBA ? . I’ve had it with Pardew now like. Does he realise how close we are to the bottom 3 or what

Comment #4Does that mean Sissoko will be playing wide right? Jonas on and Gouffran on the bench? HBA on the bench despite claims he is 100% fit? And Tiote…? Why?
Ok, I’m not going to nit pick and I am just going to say it’s time for this XI to go out and give their all.

Comment #8WTF tiote and perch no gouffran no HBA – ultra defensive at its finest. Might as well play 5 at the back you clueless nob!

Comment #9Seems defensive, but maybe having Tiote and Perch holding, it might free Cabaye to push forward a bit?

Comment #12Does he not know that he’s making a rod for his own back? If we lose this game he will be massacred, and I seriously won’t be surprised if there are calls of “you don’t know what you’re doing” if things go seriously t*ts up.
Obviously it wouldn’t help, and we all need to get behind whatever XI is selected but Pardew is losing what tenuous grip over the fans he might have had.

Comment #13Gouffran, Anita and Ben Arfa on the bench, sounds like its the dangerous attempt for 0-0 at 60mins, then on they come to win us the game.
Tiote and Jonas better put in MOTM performances today!!!
It’s 1 from us, Norwich, stoke, villa, sunderland and wigan that’s going down. We clearly have the best squad, but will pardews lack of adventure in his tactics cost us?!?!?

Where is any creativity going to come from that line up.
I posted right at the end of the last thread the line up to win the game but according to ESPN it is 4 2 3 1 formation with cabaye playing the number 10 role.
Wigan still winning so a win tonight is crucial.

Comment #16Anita should be starting ahead of Tiote. Can’t understand why Pardew doesn’t like him. It’s bad management at its best. We should be playing a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 with Anita in the side. If we don’t win today, I want Pardew out. Doesn’t play the right personnel.

Comment #18Tiote power walks himself into the side. Guiterez could of scored 3 own goals last week and he would still start. Also I seem to remember gouffran scored last but now he’s dropped. Clueless. Aldershor may be a good managerial post for Pardew they’ll be in the conference next season!

Comment #19Liverpool don’t concede many goals so we need to take our chances this week.
Sick of seeing so many chances go nowhere
Hopefully Cabaye can play like he did in 1st half against WBA, he shudve had 5 assists in that game

Comment #20I like Tiote but Perch did perfectly fine vs Westbrom. Why do we need defensive reinforcements? Of all the changes he could have made, he chooses the most negative option possible. The man is retarded. Ill be surprised if we take a single point today.

Comment #23Just trying to calm myself down but I am really nervous following the other results, I really want this team to perform but, like many of you guys, I can see massive flaws in this team selection.
All we really need is 1 win in our last 4, surely we should just go for it rather than pack a team full of defensive midfielders?

Comment #31Think we should sign Biglia, Matuidi and Scharner next season and play at 1-8-1 formation with Sissoko and Anita on the wings. No doubt Pardew will be looking at playing this:
Coloccini
Sissoko Cabaye Tiote Perch P.S Biglia Blaise Anita
