There’s a disaster underway at St. James’ Park this afternoon, with Liverpool ripping the Newcastle defense apart in the first 25 minutes of the game, and the Reds are two up at half-time and it could have been worse.
Jonas Gutierrez – in action this afternoon
Newcastle looked second best from the off today, and within three minutes the fast free-flowing play of Liverpool was just too much for Newcastle, and Daniel Agger put Liverpool 1-0 up, as he was completely unmarked in the middle of the penalty area as he easily headed the ball home..
Liverpool were having all the play, and it was hard to believe what was happening, as the Reds continually opened up the Newcastle defense, and after 17 minutes they were 2-0 up as former Sunderland player Jordan Henderson put the all into the net completely unmarked – after a Coutinho pass tore open the Newcastle defense once again.
Newcastle came a bit more into the game, but after 36 minutes a superb left wing cross from Haidaira found James Perch completely unmarked just six yards out, but he amazingly headed two yards wide of the goal. 🙁
Half time came and the lads were booed off the pitch as relegation is looking a little more real right now – unless Newcastle come out as a completely different side in the last 45 minutes.
Summary – too bad to believe – and it was like a third division side playing a Premier League side.
Newcastle will need to play much much better in the second half – and we need an early goal – if we any chance to get something out of this game – which looks highly unlikely at half time.
Pardew needs to give his Arsenal half-time talk, when we were 4-0 down against Arsenal just over two years ago.
