Newcastle lost this game by 6-0 and one of the heaviest defeats for a long long time, and it has to be one of the worst and inept performances given by a Newcastle side for many a long year, as the Liverpool side simply ripped Newcastle apart from the first whistle – and now we have only three games left at West Ham, QPR and home to Arsenal – and maybe the only win we could get is at QPR. This was a shameful performance from Newcastle. And our goal difference is now -23 – it was -19 when we were relegated four years ago.
But this will send huge alarm bells off in the corridors of power at Newcastle, because our goals difference is now not much better than Wigan, who were beating Tottenham 2-1 when an own goal equalized the scored – but Newcastle are playing terrible football at the exact worst time.
And our goal difference is -23 – the same as Wigan’s – and it’s hard to say this – but this a much worse display than in our last home game against Sunderland.
Newcastle looked second best from the off today, and within three minutes Liverpool were just too much for Newcastle, and Daniel Agger put them 1-0 up, as he was completely unmarked in the middle of the penalty area as he easily headed the ball home.
Liverpool were having all the play, and it was hard to believe what was happening, and after 17 minutes they were 2-0 up as former Sunderland player Jordan Henderson put the all into the net completely unmarked – after a Coutinho pass tore open the Newcastle defense once again.
Newcastle came a bit more into the game, but after 36 minutes a superb left-wing cross from Haidaira found James Perch completely unmarked just six yards out, but he amazingly headed two yards wide of the goal. 🙁
Half time came and the lads were booed off the pitch as relegation was looking a little more real right now – unless Newcastle come out as a completely different side in the second 45 minutes.
Newcastle made two changes at the break and Ben Arfa and Yoan Gouffran were introduced for Gutierrez and Perch, and Newcastle showed a lot more spirit, well for the first few minutes, and then Newcastle were 3-0 down.
Ben Arfa lost the ball out on the left wing and Coutinho quickly moved forward and threaded a ball through to Daniel Sturridge, who simply smashed the ball past Elliot – and our difference is getting near that of Wigan at -20.
After 60 minutes Newcastle’s defense was again ripped apart as three Liverpool players are on one Newcastle player, and Daniel Sturridge scored again and Newcastle fans start to stream out of the ground – in what is a display that is so bad – that it’s hard to believe – goal difference -21
On 73 minutes Liverpool scored again (for fun) as the ball was crossed from the right and this time it’s Borini who put the ball past Elliot, and then just to make sure this is one of the darkest days for a long time Debuchy picked up a second yellow card and was sent off – and he will miss the game at West Ham.
And from the resulting free kick Jordan Henderson scored direct, as Newcastle players seem to have given up – which is completely and utterly unacceptable – and our goal difference is now -23 – the same as Wigan’s, who are 5 points behind us with a game in hand – but this result will give Wigan and Aston Villas huge hope.
This was an unexpected and complete and utter disaster for Newcastle United – and this result will send shock waves around St. James’ Park – as the wheels seem to have come off.
We have three games to go to save ourselves – but the odds don’t look good tonight – it was simply shameful this afternoon.
And if we play like this in our last three games, we’ll end up on 37 points and we’ll be relegated.
That’s the truth.
It will be interesting what Alan Pardew has to say after this shameful disaster.
I don’t even want to hear an apology from Alan Pardew and the players – talk it too cheap.
