Team Spirit Said To Be Disintegrating at Newcastle

11:52 pm, Monday, April 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 103 Comments

Aston Villa scored the highest ever goals tally in their Premier League history, when they hammered Sunderland 6-1 and went above Newcastle on goal difference on Monday night.

yohan cabaye i can't hear you

Yohan Cabaye – has talked to Pardew

And now some chilling news that the team spirit at Newcastle is beginning to crumble, and it’s apparently to do with our large French contingent of players – we have 11 French speaking players in the squad.

The team spirit of the Aston Villa side looked sky-high, and if our players cannot get together and play all out as a team for a common cause – survival – we could be doomed for the second division next season.

It’s as simple as that.

There’s a report in the Daily Mirror today that  some of our French players are less than happy at the enormous criticism that is being leveled at all our players, after two of Newcastle worst two defeats in their history – the 3-0 loss to Sunderland and the 6-0 hammering by Liverpool.

And the Mirror report is pointing the finger at Yohan Cabaye, as the man who is objecting the most – so this is hardly good news.

When you are in trouble you expect the team to pull together – otherwise we can hardly pick up the points we need in the last three games. to survive the drop.

And it seems there is a lot of blaming going on between the players, and maybe even with the manager, which is the last thing we want to hear.

If Mike Ashley hears about this nonsense, we would expect him to helicopter up to Newcastle and meet with the manager and players, and ensure all is well in the squad.

There’s £70M to be had next season if we can stay in the Premier League, and Mike is very well aware of that – we know that.

Some of the squad are calling for more spirit to be shown on the field, and it seems that some players are hyper-sensitive to any criticism leveled at them.

Of course we are assuming the report in the Mirror is accurate, and we have to remember that we don’t expect any support at all from the press – they’d just love it if Newcastle were to be relegated this season – what a story that would be after we were 5th last season.

Mike Ashley is obviously very concerned and very annoyed (some say he’s furious) about the last two home results, and Aston Villa’s 6-1 win certainly doesn’t help Newcastle’s cause.

And for the first time this season, they are above the Magpies in the league.

We need to save ourselves by picking up points in our last three games.

That’s the most important thing – it’s the only thing.

Gouffran is the only French player I’d trust to put in a shift, and only then if played up front.

    Simmo Taylor Colo Anita

    Tiote Guti

    Gouffran Cisse

    That’s it……..9

pawl i disagree with that i’d counter that he’s been massivly bigged up before he came and i thought he was shocking against liverpool which lets be honest the whole defense were the fact he just stopped for there 3rd goal and was about 30 yards away from where he should have been i cant see staylor just stopping,
don’t get me wrong i think he will be a top top defender when he gets used to this league but i’d get the staylo collo partnership back for the next 3 games we dont need any more errors at the back and i think collo n staylor are much more comfortable together aswell as for my nerves
next year yes but not in this situation
but i bet if pardews still at the helm before kickoff and he chooses the same as me he’ll get dogs abuse for it but it makes much more sense in this situation for me

Hello, folks! Very disappointed with the so called leaders, especially Cabaye. The club did a lot to keep him happy and we’ve been quite patient with his patch of poor form earlier in the season.

I agree Pardew has to take a large portion of the blame for his negative approach, but please do not miss the fact ever since we lost the QF the players are the real reason we struggled with the severe dip in motivation.

Anyone up for some twitter talk? Find me @ColdInTheNight

Tbis sums uo what my last two posts have tried to do. No player accountability; and particularly from cabaye. Now hes not happy to take criticism if this is true. He probBly only got pushed up because he wont tackle man. Anyhoo off to bed lets see what horrors tomorrow brings

  • 8 santonthenewmaldini // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:12 AM

Well they better take the criticism on the chin because none of them deserve pass marks what do they expect to be praised for getting pounded 9 nil over 2 games!?!?!

They better come out fighting like a wounded animal on Saturday as thats the only way to silence the critics

I could imagine the likes of Arfa and Cabaye being a pain in the arse just now but its only because they want to win and I imagine they are pissed right off with Pardew’s tactics and the way he wants the team to play

I think Debuchy getting sent off told you what he thought of the tactics he was left to defend and attack the whole of the right hand side on his own against Coutinho, Henderson and Enrique!!?No cover from his defensive mids or Taylor and no support on the right wing from whoever was supposed to be playing there football suicide if i ever seen it so glad Suarez was not playing that day could have been double figures

  • 9 jimmysmith // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:20 AM

They’d have to be pretty self absorbed, not to set these problems aside for 3 games and really put it all on the line for the fans, who actually to a man REALLY do care!.

  • 10 Shane // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:20 AM

When you introduce an influx of French footballers, half way through a season, a group that have never played in England and you place them under the management of an unproven premier league manager what do you think will fecking happen!!

  • 11 El Tino // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:22 AM

    Asprilla for manager

    1. he has a big gun collection. In the past he has brought a

gun to training and shot it in the air, as players werent

    training hard enough.

2.he can bring in valderrama as a coach. he was a creative

genius and can teach some of the players. But mainly because

collo’s hair has lost its bounce and carlos can give him some

    3. Most talented player ever and as hard as nails. Wont take

any crap . He will make sure players are never late, if a bus

door is broken, he will kick it in, even if he injures

himself and misses a cup final.

4.He could make cisse more prolific. by teaching cisse to

stay onside more- ‘to beat the offside flag, you must become

the flag’. tino did this by putting his shirt on a flag and

    waving it in the air.

Also can teach cisse to shoot on sight (see point1)

    5. Asprilla loves horses ‘once arriving for international

duty nine hours late after having visited an equine show’. He

can spread this passion to the odd horse hating fan.

    6. He will motivate all the players. He has a few pornstar

    phone numbers.

    7. He will show the unfit or injured players how to make an

impact from the bench.. by drinking wine

After drinking wine,an unfit Tino made his debut providing an

assist and turning the game around against boro.

8.He will teach the players how to score:

Que hace una nina tan bonita como tu en una pelicula porno

    como esta?

What’s a nice girl like you doing in a porn film like this?

    (see point 6)

A lot of the media were all over the fact that we had picked up so many french players in January.

Obviously now we have hit a bad patch they are going to pick on the newer guys.

ED mentioned Ashley getting in his helicopter to talk to the players. Too right he should. Don’t expect him to spout tactics, but he should at least remind the players about how much they are earning and and that they owe him a couple of decent performances before the end of the season.

Hell, he might even dangle a large bonus in front of them for staying up.

The end of the season cannot come early enough for me.

I just hope that when Ashley reviews the season he realises that neither Pardew or Llambias are fit for purpose and gets rid of them.

A few good signings in the summer, assuming we are still in the PL, a new coach/manager and new management could make all the difference. The new french lads will have tasted the PL and got some experience behind them.

Properly coached and playing in their proper positions we might make a decent go of the new season. Lets not go mad about this, we’ll never be top 4. But we could certainly give the top teams a run for their money.

HWTL! A point at West Ham would be ok for us. Provided we don’t chuck away a winning position because of AP’s negative tactics. Then we should beat an relegated QPR. Perhaps Cabaye could have a post-match chat with Remy about joining us in the summer.

Get those 4 points and we will be home & dry. Then as I’ve said, roll on the summer! Interesting times await then.

  • 18 lesh // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:49 AM

Let’s not forger that Cabaye’s suffered/ suffering with depressiion, he’s captain and maybe he needs to be rested and away from the pressure that’s clearly getting to him and as he’s leading the team, is clearly getting to the rest of the players.

That’s meant to be a constructive comment, before the ‘he’s getting £x thou a week etc’ folk jump in.

  • 19 lesh // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:54 AM

    • typo time: forger ~ forget. Micky mouse fone can’t spelll!

  • 20 santonthenewmaldini // Apr 30, 2013 at 1:08 AM

Ashley should be telling all the internationals that if they dont get the finger out and we go down that he will not sell them next season and they will have to battle it out in the championship which will seriously damage their chances of a world cup place next year

I bet they would certainly start fighting a lot harder then!!

I actually think for this game against West Ham he should start with the team that ended the game against Liverpool but with Simpson for Debuchy and Colo on for Mbiwa or Taylor

Would give us a good balance and also some attacking intent

  • 21 89Norcal // Apr 30, 2013 at 1:19 AM

was very funny watching the villa/scum match, and seeing the division of newcastle fans supporting one side over the other based on their own math skills :)

But I have to say today was the worst possible result, not only did Villa get 3 pts, they overtook us on GD as well.

Why not play Gouffran alone up front. I know he’s not an elite striker but he is a striker

  • 22 NUFC-BRAZILFAN // Apr 30, 2013 at 1:54 AM

I don’t know how I would play against West Ham, but I wouldn’t play in a 4-2-3-1 simply because we don’t have a typical number 10 who organizes the midfield. I would play in a 4-3-3 or in a 4-4-2.
    __Goufran___________Ben Arfa

I think I would use the 4-4-2 to defend better West Ham’s wide game and because I think a team must have confidence and organization to play at 4-3-3, which we don’t have now, even thought, at a long term, I think the 4-3-3 formation would suit us better.

  • 23 stuart no9 // Apr 30, 2013 at 1:55 AM

2 things – — first,i have said a couple of times – we have to get rid of pardew. he is not able to sort this out.
at least by getting another manager in, we have give it a go-if we dont , we are going down anyway. its an easy choice really !

  • 24 stuart no9 // Apr 30, 2013 at 1:57 AM

sorry i forgot my second thing ! alreadt a cry of help from the french lads. to any big clubs who want us – come and get us !

  • 25 rossc // Apr 30, 2013 at 2:31 AM

    —-Taylor — Colo — Mbiwa
    Anita ————————-Haidara
    ——-Tiote – Sissoko – Cabaye
    ——- -Ben Arfa — Cisse

This is the only way i can find to play all the players to their strengths. Obviously if debuchy wasn’t suspended he would be right wing back.

But it addresses our main concern, which is our player spend so much time worried about defending because they don’t trust the defense to do it, that we have no attacting creativity what so ever

Our fullbacks aren’t strong defensively so take the pressure off with three dedicated CBs.
With this formation we have a 5 man defensive line and when we have the ball we have a 5 man defensive line too.

When we are in the final third cabaye and tiote to hand back just outside the pick up clearances while sissoko gets into the box and the two fullbacks bomb up to the byline giving us a 5 man attack, with three in the box.

Cisse is at his best when he has got others around him, he isn’t a target man and this tactic would allow him to be instictive and get those little half chances rathers that running the line and getting caught off side all the time.

Thats my rant, dear god please let us stay up.

  • 26 rossc // Apr 30, 2013 at 2:32 AM

sorry that was meant to say

“With this formation we have a 5 man defensive line and when we have the ball we have a 5 man mid field line too.”

  • 27 true toon // Apr 30, 2013 at 3:00 AM

I say screw the french “stars”. Once we get relegated , sell them for a profit !!

Lets focus on staying in the championship next season instead of aiming for Europa league , top 6 ?

I rather we stay in Championship, play good football and remain there rather than come up to premier league and get relegated every two seasons.

    I asked this on Twitter

We have better players than Villa, why can’ we play like them?

  • 42 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:20 AM

I’m not surprised that there is blame game inside our squad among players. Look at their leader who supposed to lead by example, fartdew set the example of leadership by blaming anything possible but himself not even once.

  • 43 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:24 AM

Because we think we are better than anyone, better at everything. Our manager is the best manager of the year, he also thinks that he never make mistakes. His mind set is we are too good to go down with him in charge.

  • 44 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:28 AM

fartdew tactic is simply pick the biggest name in the squad then start putting them into formation, not the best performer or who is more suitable each role in the formation.
    Example: Sissoko as winger…DOH

  • 45 valle // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:29 AM

This is very disturbing if true, since it would mean that our problems run very deep… Almost as disturbing is the fact that we are linked with McClaren and Clark should AP get the kick… If that is true then ill lose faith in MA as well (again). Its probably very prenature, but where there is smoke there usually is a fire.

  • 46 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:35 AM

I think at this time almost every manager available is being linked with us. As long as there is no official statement, I believe it’s all just a rumour created by journo or someone claiming as reliable source.

  • 47 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:38 AM

At this time, I only wish for fartdew to be sacked and give chance to the new manager to know the problem in our squad and rebuild it in summer transfer. Hopefully someone unlike our current cr@p manager.

  • 48 valle // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:39 AM

what I fear most right now, if we are level with wigan and the last game is wigan vs villa, knowing villa will be safe they might give wigan a big win. then we will be screwed again by villa.

  • 50 cyprus // Apr 30, 2013 at 6:52 AM

Haven’t posted since our latest drubbing…
We need a dose of realism injected in the team:
*AP: Perception – Well, being the incumbent Manager of the Year he must be good
Reality- He’s a good man, but needs help on tactical matters
*Defensive coach: If we have one, fire his ass. I’m sure we don’t have a set piece coach!
*Fitness coach: How did he let HBA get so unfit, etc, etc? Fire him.
*Elliott- great shot stopper, but needs work overall
    * Taylor: Perception- so good should play for England. Reality- Plays with his heart, but he’s not very good. Steps in and out of offside traps at diametrically wrong moments, lack of positioning sense, error prone.
*Haidara’s injury rattled him, hope he can be like he was initially.
*Cabaye is no Mata, Nasri even Carrick. He regularly loses the MF too seemingly lesser teams. Anita is the same.

Will this team survive? I think so. Wigan will get 5 or 6 more points, we’ll get 2 or 3 (39 or 40). We may need a point off Arsenal, though!

Does this team have some pluses? Of course: Krul, Debuchy, Mbiwa, Tiote (good player with skill, never hides), Sissoko (needs coaching but can be a Viera), HBA (IF he can stay fit), Cisse (best in the league on instinct, but needs work on focusing on options), Gouffran. That’s 8 players, a good foundation. The rest are replaceable.

So, is this saying all the french lads feel the same, or is it just Cabaye, which could be put down in part to the depression issues he has had this season?

If Cabaye feels like that, leave him out, we need our players to be up for it and ready to fight, Cabaye can’t be if this is true, so let’s leave the lad out and hope that a break/time off will help him recover. If he was diagnosed as suffering with depression e should have had time off straight away, we haven’t really helped in that cause.

However, if it is all of them, then there is something horribly wrong at the club, and it needs to be nipped in the bud. Your move Mike.

  • 59 one Tony Green // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:38 AM

Ed you have taken an article from The Mirror which has absolutely no substance and some of the clowns on this site have taken it as fact.

A far cry from your previous articles The Mighty Sissoko, Dreamboat 1 and 2 blah blah blah.

Fact Cisse has been poor, fact S Taylor has been poor, fact Jonas legs have gone, fact Pardew cannot keep his clacker shut and is totally inept with tactics and Tiote is just a liability.

We cannot defend to save our lives so when we go 1 0 up go for the kill not sit back. When we played at Man United we played with an intensity and that is what we must do.

  • 60 toonbrother // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:38 AM

Cabaye is a winner! He played behind the front three at Lille and drove what was a midtable club to the french title

You can’t blame him for being frustrated with the rubbish tactics he’s being subjected to under Pardumb

We are lucky to have a player like this and we’re wasting a fantastic opportunity to achieve something great with this team

  • 61 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:39 AM

Really don’t get the love for mbiwa on here. He may have been top class in france but he is woeful for us.

I’d genuinely have willo ahead of him at the moment.

  • 64 bills-son // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:46 AM

Villa win 6.1 and overtake us on goal diff, Wigan are playing with plenty of spirit and Sunderland have two homes games out of their last three.

We have reports of internal finger pointing, look a shambles on the field and have two away games and a final home game against Arsenal who will probably still be fighting for a Champs Lge place.

My heart doesn”t want to even consider it but my gut feeling is that we’ll be lucky to get another point and that Wigan will overtake us.

Villa showed eveything last night that we haven’t shown in our last two home games – team spirit, passion, fight, work rate and organisation. Skill comes far behind all of those qualities in these last few games – without that we will go down.

  • 65 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:47 AM

spot on. It just seems so obvious that with a few tweaks here and there we’d be flying. Playing Cabaye and Sissoko in their right positions would be a start. No wonder they look bad at the moment.

Wigan have too much to do now but even if we stay up Pardew has to go as he’s wrecking a really good squad which may take a long time to see the likes of again. Cabayes, Benny’s, Kruls etc don’t come along every day.

  • 66 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:48 AM

If the stories are true – and it looked like it Saturday evening then we are in the shit – big time.
Could get a hammering all three games especially if we go a goal behind.

  • 67 toonbrother // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:48 AM

@tonygreen anyone with a little bit of common sense would ask themselves why ALL of those players have suddenly and simultaneously become poor players? Has the team had a hex placed on it, or have they contracted some mysterious infection that causes players to play football badly??

Think for a second. The problem is NOTHING to do with Tiote, Cabaye, Taylor, Jonas, Obertan or Cisse. The problem was and is PARDUMB

  • 68 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:50 AM

He’s notorious for it and not just at West Ham. He was at it at Southampton too.

  • 69 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:51 AM

Cabaye isn’t in the plus points, but Tiote and Sissoko are?? Cabaye is the best player of those three, to have him in the negatives because he is no “Mata, Nasri or even Carrick” is madness. Tiote has been our worst performing midfielder this season. Personally, I think he is a decent player, just having a rough year, but to have him as a plus and ignore Cabaye is nonsense.

On fitness, it was not down to our fitness coach that HBA got unfit. He picked up his injury and returned to France for rehab. Colo went home, Cabaye did earlier in the season. It is something which has been agreed in players contracts apparently, that for longer term injuries they can return home to continue there rehab, provided there are suitable facilities.

  • 70 Williamsonsuks // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:52 AM

Cabaye’s done nowt wrong! He is our captain and is our spokesman. He obviously thinks like most of us, Pardew is thick as 5hit. End of.

  • 71 Transfer Sage // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:53 AM

as much as we look a shambles QPR are worse, they had players walking off the pitch laughing after they got relegated. they really don’t care, we could beat them.

  • 72 toonbrother // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:53 AM

lol at Williamson is better than Yanga Mbiwa comment. The scapegoating exercise is a never ending merry go round. Poor Willo was scapegoated for our disatrous results before Christmas. We were told Saylor was the saviour. Now Willo is better than Mbiwa. lol. Some fans are just dumb. It pi55es me off reading some of the rubbish people post here

  • 73 garyandsarah17 // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:53 AM

Pardew has always been clueless,we rode our luck in a lot of games last season and this season was a disaster waiting to happen when we didn’t strengthen in the summer. If he picks the right team we have enough quality to stay up by the skin of our teeth. It’s then time to look at people like Jonas and S Taylor and accept they aren’t good enough to take us to the next level. Tiote is like a different player this season and has been simply awful, time to cash in if there are any takers. I just hope the fat man is willing to do what needs doing,if not then please for the love of god put us up for sale and give us the chance to have an owner with some ambition.

  • 74 valle // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:53 AM

Rotonda… If there is any truth in it, you cant blame the players for not trusting him.

  • 75 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:54 AM

Good players are all looking c..p at the moment. It’s the Pardew effect. Give him 3 weeks with any talented players and they’re doomed!!!

I’ve never known so many players not just M’Biwa looking so totally confused and puzzled as to what they are meant to be doing.

  • 76 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:54 AM

    Just realised

    Misery Loves co.

QPR will not make it easy for us. they will want to take us down.

  • 77 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:55 AM

If there is internal fighting, disorganised chaos then maybe relegation could be the best thing.
Complete clear out of players and management, backroom staff the F**kin lot.

The ‘French Foreign Legion’ have become the ‘French Farce’

New manager and a boat load of new players starting with Rhodes from Blackburn and Murphy from Crystal Palace – two strikers who have proved themselves this season.

Should make enough money selling our so called purplies

  • 78 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:56 AM

That’s why I’d get rid of him now. People were saying it would be suicidal to do it now. I think the exact opposite. The players are obviously not paying for him and I almost feel maybe no manager is better than Pardew at the moment.

  • 79 toonbrother // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:56 AM

Personally Im relieved by the Villa result. At least we’re all on 37. Now its a shoot out. Call me crazy but I believe we can win all three remaining games. We have the team. We dont have a coach but we have the talent to ease ourselves out of this mess

  • 80 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Apr 30, 2013 at 7:59 AM

Some games last seson where we won or got points

    Blackburn away
    Wolves away
    Man Utd away
    Villa home (Cisse Debut)
    Norwich home
    Sunderland home

  • 81 Transfer Sage // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:00 AM

Please tell me where mbiwa has looked a good player for us? He has been decent but has made a lot of mistakes in every game he has played.

Not saying he won’t be good long term but now he isn’t useful to us. It’s hard to settle in to a new team/league when they are underperforming. He hasn’t settled and i’d rather see a proven partnership of colo and saylor in the last 3.

  • 82 Charlie in the Gallowgate // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:00 AM

And if Pardew has lost the dressing room – and it looked like it with Debuchy’s attitude when getting himself sent off – couldn’t get off thev pitch fast enough.
    Sack him today
Can’t afford to go into last three with the club in disarray

  • 83 valle // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:01 AM

Another reason to get Benitez… I doubt he would be very popular with the young wifes ;)

  • 84 Transfer Sage // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:02 AM

Oh I agree, not blaming mbiwa, impossible to settle when yor new team in a new league are out of form and look drained of everything.

I think long term he will be good for us, just now i’d go for saylor and colo as we know they can work very well together.

  • 85 Ian Toon // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:05 AM

bills-son – @ 64. Self doubt! It’s not about what other teams do, it’s about what we do! I didn’t have you down as throwing in the towel at this time if at all. Positivity in times of self doubt just get a grip.

  • 86 eaststandgeordie1982 // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:06 AM

Would be better to have no manager for the last few games let the players sort this sh1t out how can it get any worse carver has a good record as caretaker aswell ;-)

  • 87 // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:07 AM

This is all Pardew. A strong manager would manage! to motivate, and discipline the non believers/workers.
I don’t think Pardew is a man that takes on battles with his players. I think he is more about beeing liked by his players, staff and fans.
Cisse wasn’t as strong as Ba in the dressing rooom, therefore him on the wing and Ba as a striker. That with incredible poor tactics, poor motivating skills and a man so full of him self that it results in depressed players is the blueprint of disaster.
F you Ashley for hiring Pardew and for not firing him in january when the football watching fans all saw what was going on, and fukk you Pardew for being a lying narsisist!

  • 88 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:07 AM

I’rd rather get rid of one moronic manager than some very good players. All these players don’t turn bad overnight.

You just know under a Blanc, Rijkeard, Benitez etc we’d see a totally different team working their socks off and enjoying playing football, not defensive hoof ball.

  • 89 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:09 AM

Reason why we don’t have too many players in the box when attacking

Why we look knackered is because we practice hoofball, which means hoof it and stand still

HOOFHOOFHOOF – who let pardew out

  • 90 Rotonda heights // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:10 AM

that boat has long sailed. should have been sacked at the weekend. can’t believe he’s still here. At least Gullit did the decent thing and walked.

  • 91 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:11 AM

If we hoof it against QPR,

Samba will eat it all up, if he playe i.e

  • 92 Lilongwe Geordie // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:11 AM

    Toonbrother, you are crazy :-)

If we go down this time we will find it much harder to come back up, unlikely we could get Rhodes, Blackburn will be looking for big money, if we go down Ashley won’t do that as he would have to subsidize the wages again.

I’m with you on he should go now, but what criticism are the players unhappy about, being out here I don’t see much english media, and the main criticism I’ve seen has been of Pardew. So does that not mean players are with him. Obviously, the media may be slagging the players off more, I just don’t see that, in which case ignore that. :-)

  • 93 Indian Magpie (HD_07 on Twitter) // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:12 AM

No wonder we look poor, none of our players knows abt hoof ball

  • 94 Ian Toon // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:13 AM

Pardew will be selecting the players who he feels are up for the battle. Given that we need 3 points to stay up. It has not been pretty all season so it doesn’t need to be know. We don’t know the mental or physical state of the players. Personally I would look at Yanga as a means of trying to isolate AC by playing a high line.

  • 95 Santon03 // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:14 AM

I really can’t blame most of the players, only pardew. When you put on a team the wrong way then the whole team look sh!t and individually look sh!t as well. From what I’ve seen the whole season, pardew has been put players on the wrong positions and wrong roles, which is not their strong points or what Carr saw in them. Sissoko is not an attacking midfield or winger, HBA is not good at defending so he will cost more harm than good, Cabaye is not holding midfield or defensive which is supposed to be Sissoko, Gouffran was not a winger Marveaux is but he put Marv as central midfield, Jonas used to be a good winger but not anymore. He ask players with less defensive attributes to do more defending than attacking, they will do more harm than good. We have many players with more defending attributes but pardew didn’t use them (Anita, Perch, Bigi) for defensive tactic. I think pardew is just acting or trying to be clever, it’s recipe for disaster. he said he is meticulous about analyzing opponent and tactic to face them, but every week he didn’t have particular tactic to face opponents and he just put on his favourite players and made up formation for them. IT’S A JOKE, it might worked once or twice but it’s getting perdictable and the opponents know it.

  • 96 Jail for Ashley // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:15 AM

I think Tiote has been sold a dummy, sign a big long contract so we get a decent price for you son,he obviously never got his self a decent buy out clause and when Chelsea came in he realised he was stuck here or held ransom to Disk Dastardlys demands,I think the players all realise things as not as rosy as the former glaciers patter suggested and there might be just some truth in the words of Barton and Enrique .

  • 97 // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:16 AM

This is all Pardew. His lack of man management and motivating skills is ruining the dressingroom. That together with the obsession of beeing liked by the owner, players and fans, and the lack of dicsiplin is the blueprint for disaster.
Ba moaned about beeing played out wide when every one saw that he was the man capable of it between him and Cisse, and Pardew sucked his a$$ because Cisse is an easier player to confront. Incredible!
Ashley: Straight it up. You messed up when you hired this clown and not firing him when every fotball watching fans saw what was going on in december/january.
Pardew: I wish you all the worst, you lying narsisist.

    Rant over

  • 98 Transfer Sage // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:17 AM

Yeh none of us know the mental state so can only go off what we think playing wise.

i just think we can play higher up the pitch even without mbiwa, dont need a lot of pace for it, west ham are hardly full of quick players.

  • 99 bills-son // Apr 30, 2013 at 8:30 AM

Ian Toon – I’m not throwing in the towel, but I am being realistic.

Despite my support of Pardew over the past few weeks I’ve been saying for a while now that I feared going into the last three games needing points to stay up. I said that because I could see the warning signs weeks ago. We are an easy touch away from home and that it is one of the clearest signs of a team without fight, bottle and character. We don’t have leaderx on the pitch and my fear was that needing points against West Ham and QPR away and Arsenal home to stay up could be beyond us. That’s exactly where we are now.

Make no mistake, all of those three teams have a little extra reason to beat us – Allardyce, Nolan and even Carrol at WH, QPR wanting to win their last home game and drag us down with them, Arsenal going for the Champs Lge. There are no easy games here.

I had no confidence in the last few games when we last got relegated and I hate to say it but I don’t have a lot now. I see the same attitudes and lack of fight and I’ll hold my hands up and admit that Pardew has to take a big share of the blame for that.

We have had a long list of injuries, we didn’t strengthen enough in the summer and having to play all five Jan signings in the team together because of more injuries hasn’t helped either. If we’d have finished 6-9 points above relegation Pardew might have had a case imo for 10/12 games next season – there is no case whatsoever for being relegated.

Pardew has the biggest three games of his life in front of him. If he is good enough he’ll get the points we need – if not we’ll go down.

It’s now as simple as that.

  • 100 n3w // Apr 30, 2013 at 12:43 PM

Agree with rossc’s 5-3-2 formation, this is the only way we can play to our strengths, but I would have a slight change to the personnel.

So here’s my Team for west ham

    Mbiwa____Taylor____ Colo _____Willo____Haidara

    _____ Gouffran _____ Cabaye _____Sissoko_____

    _______________ Cisse _____ HBA_____________

  • 101 matias // Apr 30, 2013 at 5:19 PM

Interesting that everyone still has Cabaye starting. He seems much to desparate to start let alone captain the team.

But let`s not make this “French” issue. I trust HBA and Gouffran to do good job. The French defenders will become good but may need some time. Maybe Sissoko could be used as late a sub.

  • 103 arpeco19 // May 1, 2013 at 3:08 PM

    ———————– Harper———————-

    ———————— Sissoko———————

    Ben Arfa———————————–Gouffran

I’d play a 3-3-1-2-1… Everyone is now in their rightful position, 3 centre halves, coloccini to take a step back and mop up all the flick ons, Taylor and Mbiwa play as a regular pairing, with Haidara and Simpson playing as wing backs, Tiote doing his natural best at destroying play and giving the ball to the more gifted footballers. I would play Sissoko in a natural centre midfield role NOT as a withdrawn CF it’s not his right position.. Ben Arfa and Gouffran to attack the wings and link up with Cisse as often as possible, I’d tell Cisse to forget about trying to hold the ball up and concentrate on trying to make runs to get in the “right” areas to score goals. My philosophy would be play the ball to feet and not hoof it up to Cisse all the time, use our strengths not our weaknesses… It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see that our formation and style of play haven’t worked this season… I’d “rest” Cabaye & Gutierrez so as to have a stronger bench..

Subs : Elliot, Williamson, Perch, Anita, Cabaye, Gutierrez, Ameobi
