We Need Experience, Passion – Here’s Saturday’s Team

10:42 am, Monday, April 29th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 204 Comments

We think that Alan Pardew will have been dismayed at the way a lot of our new players  gave up in the second half on Saturday, and simply were not up for the game against Liverpool.

fabricio coloccini in action

Fabricio Coloccini – must start Saturday

And with Coloccini and Ben Arfa both fit, we’ll have to start them at West Ham, and the least we want to see is a gutsy performance from the team, although we don’t expect to get anything at all out of the game.

And with Steve Harper available and close to 200 games in the Premier League, he should be brought back in goal for the inexperienced Rob Elliot.

Mathieu Debuchy is suspended for the game, but he was simply awful against Liverpool, and we should see Danny Simpson back in at right back.

And Moussa Sissoko should be given a rest, as we’re getting tired of seeing him get the ball, and simply run with it until he loses the ball,

So maybe this is a side we could start at West Ham on Saturday:

Simpson Coloccini (c) Taylor (S) Yanga-Mbiwa
Ben Arfa Cabaye Perch (Anita) Gutierrez
Gouffran Cisse

We show Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa in for the inexperienced Massadio Haidara at left back.

Any player not willing to give his guts and fight for the side on Saturday, should be left at home and not even travel to London.

We still don’t expect to get anything out of the game.

he’s been our best player by a mile recently

The problem Ashley has now, is that having failed to see that Pardew was just making excuses, his whole business plan now goes out the window. If we get relegated ( likely ) , all his ideas of getting cheaper french young fellas in to fatten up and sell at a profit is is ruins. Because these guys will not get us out of the lower division. As for Di Matteo – no thanks….very defensive manager and not what we need in the medium term.

I thought your paint a picture style post on Saturday- (the sun was etc) was about the best you had posted. I didn’t agree with much of it but thats for another day. I don’t think we will be relegated but I am considering the possibility of life in the championship. You will recall me mentioning how highly I rate Ian Holloway and he would be the man to get us back up and it would be fun on the way. My whole immediate family, sister as well are going to the West Ham. I forecast 42 points some time ago and stick by it. I hate negativity which is why your sunlit post was quality.

seasons- the crowd got at Haidara and it seemed to shake him briefly.

Lads has no one else considered pardew’s use of “experience” probably means shola back in the side! Would not be surprised if him and willo start.

  • 10 Joe Blog // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:02 AM

I’d honestly consider the Willo/Colo partnership, they would hopefully play their natural games, not making rash decisions in the key area, feeling they have something unnecessary to redeem themselves – fresh minds – Willo was also our best defender against Benfica and has done well against Carroll in the past. We all know teacher’s pet Saylor won’t be dropped though, despite he and Mbiwa been in different libraries, never mind on the same page.

    I’d go with this:

I realise I’m asking for flak with that line-up, but I honestly think it’s the best course of action.

    feeling they have to do*

  • 12 jimmysmith // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:03 AM

Chris Waddle used to chaperone Gazza around the pubs and clubs in Newcastle when they played together at the Toon in the early 80?s.

Gazza used to give it a real nudge even then and Waddle also fancied a drink.

After one particularly huge bender and early morning Sunday fry up at a Quayside caf, Waddle was pulled over for drink driving on their way home.

Gazza quickly nipped over the into the back seat and as the policeman, a huge Toon fan, was giving Waddle a stern warning, dropped his tweeds and cheekily mooned the copper out of the back window.

The constable, unfazed, duly finished his warning to Waddle before he turned to face this bare arse and began a second tongue lashing with, ” and as for you Beardsley………..”

You can’t have someone looking and talking like that Managing the club in this day and age, brilliant player or not.

    Won’t happen!

  • 13 Joe Blog // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:05 AM

But obviously, the one quick remedy is the termination of Pardingleberry’s contract, that’s be a weight off everyone’s shoulders, players and fans.

  • 14 perchy4england // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:07 AM

I can see our west ham team already, shola starting right wing with cisse upfront on his own. Sissoko still being wasted in CAM and Jonas spending the whole 90 mins falling over!

  • 15 Klatoon // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:07 AM

Mbiwa and Sissoko need a rest. Whatever happened to Marveaux?

  • 16 wolfshead@toon // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:08 AM

id start with shola actually make use of him for once and play hoof ball cos its gonna be be a physical battle with the hammers

  • 17 danuneek // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Cisse needs support, he’s not getting that in the current formation. Don’t kid yourself, its not a 4-2-3-1 it’s a 4-5-1. We have to go back to 4-4-2 and play Goufran alongside Cisse to work those channels.

We need Taylor at CB to combat the aerial threat of Carroll. Mbiwa and Colo are just too short. It makes sense to bring Colo back alongside Taylor as they have a lot of experience alongside each other and compliment each other well. This means Mbiwa can go left back and cover against the defensive inadequacies of Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa playing on the left, he’s left footed and this should encourage him to get a few more crosses in for our front 2. Anita on the right simply because he can pass and cross a ball. Sissoko and Cabaye have to play in the middle. Tiredness is no excuse, they have a weeks rest/training and we need Sissoko’s aerial/physical strength in the middle, particularly taking Cabaye’s small frame into consideration.

Lastly, Harper has to go in net. Elliot was at fault for 2 of Liverpools goals.

    Anita—-Cabaye—-Sissoko—Ben Arfa

  • 18 winnynufc // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:09 AM

Why did we play Jonas FFS, why did we play Sissoko on the right, Why did Perch get dragged off & shiote get kept on! I was so bewilderd with the team selection before we kicked a ball! Why was Goofy & Benni on the bench in a must win game???? FFS AAAArrrrggghhhhhhhh! How can we all see it & Pards cant especially with Jonas! Benni has been saying all week he was 100% fit then he starts on the bench in a must win game! Pappis can not play up front on his own he’s not like Demba who can hold off the defender & play people in, Papiss plays on the shoulder of defenders & needs a lot more support!!

I’ve been an ok supporter of Pardew but his selection on Sat was shocking & he & the team deserved everything they got in front of us 52,000 people! Not beein funny but the sunday league side i play for is full of NUFC fans & i know we would have gave a 1000% more than they did on Sat awfull! Sat is another game tho & who bloody knows eh??? HWTL!

  • 19 markmac // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:09 AM

I dont post often and i can expect some abuse but [and i can hardly believe im saying this] i think shola mite have to start along side cisse saturday…

  • 20 Shane // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:10 AM

I would genuinely play Ameobi. If you want experience and a player who can actually link the midfield with the forwards look no further!

  • 21 Bambams // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:12 AM

I am going to put my neck on the line here. ….

    I think we will…

1 Stay up on 37 points
    2 wigan to drop.
3 Blanc will be in this summer
    4 Pards will move upstairs

Can’t see us getting another point but villa and wigan still have hard games and have to play each other.

Ash is not stupid and will realise Blanc would be the right manager for the team.

  • 22 Munster Mag // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:14 AM

    He’s just a born bullshitter….

“I have no problem getting the flak, I accept that,” said Pardew. “That performance was not one of my teams. My teams are renowned for being organised and being on the front foot and you could not say that about my team against Liverpool. I will take responsibility for that.

  • 23 h0sta // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:15 AM

i still think cabaye is played out of position as box-to-box midfielder as he should operate right behind the striker – he always sees for split passes and has a good shot out of the box….

    ANITA!!! sissoko guti
    ben arfa cabaye

i have to say im very dissapointed in most of you ,

you have all decided to jump off the pardew express now its crashed,,

the fact that its been heading into a brick wall all season didnt accure to you,

pardew has been playing a merry tune for you to sing and dance too, well i hope your all proud, our team is on the verge of slipping out the prem, and if that happens, we wont have that good core of solid fighters to get us back up

pardew set a new record before jan had ended with the longest run without a win, and you all believed it was for 2 main things, injuries and the summer spending, when the main fact was / is he carnt motivate

how many think he is a great man manager now ?

its been said so many time to me “be careful what you wish for” this is what you wished for,,

been led a merry dance by the pide piper,, and you laughed and danced all the way for him

  • 30 davis_toons // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:25 AM

Harper is still the Better Keeper all these years. Pardew buy is shit or just now suitable to play at this level at this club.

Please Select Harper for this Job, he is more experience, yes you may say he is old and slow. But he knows, lots of things what a GK should do to help the team at the right moment. That can only gain through experience at this level.

This is not the time to test new keepers. Ever Real Madrid Iker Casillas is beach when the manager feels not right. Pardew u got to do that.

  • 31 Shane // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:25 AM

    I’m a plum!

I backed Pardew, I was so wrong.

However, these players need to shoulder much of the blame too. Out of position or not, you gI’ve everything and we are not seeing that at all.

    Alas, I am a plum.

  • 32 spitfire_ // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:27 AM

    Pardew’s quote from today:

“We could not get a grip, though, and we lacked threat down the flanks.”

Does he actually think that with Jonas on the one side and with the DEFENCIVE MIDFIELDER on the other we will be any kind of threat on the flanks? What a moron!

  • 33 davis_toons // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:27 AM

Iker Casillas walk straight into any team, mind you, a spain 1st team international GK, bench by JM.

Pardew will have LOTSSSsss to learn.

  • 34 5Danny94 // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:29 AM

I think the team will be:

    ——————- Elliott —————–
    -Sissoko——— Cabaye ——– Jonas-

Pardew doesn’t learn from his mistakes.

  • 35 markmac // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:29 AM

catchy – i see where your thoughts come from, yes the football has been pretty tacticless [is that a word?] and boring etc etc but he was never going to be sacked so early in the season and so soon after the ‘8 yr contract’ and so imo you just have to get behind the team as best as possible, because nothing we say would influence MA. he’s his own man but just my opinion of cause mate

  • 36 catchy in norway // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:30 AM

    yes the players should

but in football,, this is how they let there feelings know about the manager

  • 37 Jamiemac // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:30 AM

I’m actually glad Simpson’s going be playing. He’s always shown fight and commitment to this club and is actually a good defender, its just a shame his crossing is awful otherwise he would be a great full back. I don’t think my eyes have ever witnessed a worse full back display from the blogs so called ‘hero’ Debuchy. Lacking in the defence department and his crossing isn’t great either!

  • 38 catchy in norway // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:32 AM

  • 39 Rotonda heights // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:32 AM

He always gets found out. He had Tevez and Mascherano and wouldn’t play them.

As well documented there were a lot of extenuating circumstances for last year and as a West ham fan pointed out it goes to his head, starts drinking his own bathwater and the rest is history!

2 record losing streaks at 2 different clubs and taking Charlton from the PL to the bottom 3 of the championship takes some doing.

None of the other bottom clubs had nearly 20M worth of 5 new players in January with half a season left to play.

We’ve had all the excuses. Maybe the pitch is the wrong shade of green for him. Who knows? Ultimately you could give him Barcelona and he’d f..k it up. Maybe not straightaway but it wouldn’t take long. Imagine the look on Mascherano’s face if he turned up there!

  • 40 jimmysmith // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:35 AM

I’d love nothing more for Pards to steer us to safety with a win at West Ham and then go on to save his job and take us into the top 6 next season.

But yeah, wishful thinking to put it mildly. So I’ll settle for being dragged over the line on the bones of our arse and the time then taken to find the right man after a thorough inquisition at season’s end.

  • 41 Rotonda heights // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:36 AM

Yes we can blame the players but Pardew is paid the big bucks to motivate them and if it calls for it change things when they are going wrong. On that basis alone why is he still here?

  • 42 Mark the Mag // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:37 AM

  • 43 Munster Mag // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:37 AM

Shane, I was a plum until Brighton. So I guess that makes me half a plum! I have been hugely disappointed since then but have been surprised by the support given to him. All season long, he has had more talent available to him than rival managers, and from january onwards he got some class in. But players – “the group” as he keeps bloody saying – have deserted him and his methods – and Tiote is a classic case in point. Ashley and Llambias have many questions to answer. Continuity for continuity’s sake doesnt make sense, despite what some of the more naive contributors to this forum have told us. Come on Toon – 3 points will do it ….

  • 44 davis_toons // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:38 AM–Sir-Alex-Ferguson-England-boss-Roy-Hodgson-Jose-Mourinho-tops-list.html

  • 45 Tommyy // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:38 AM

Problem with Debuchy is he kept going to the byline before crossing, never going to outpace or outpower a good full back like Enrique. But then again he can’t pass and move it on and get the return like Evra or Rafael at Man U cause he doesn’t have the link up.
Also it’s time Sissoko was dropped, he’s been useless since Chelsea and for me after the way people were banging on about him I thought he’d be quality. I know he’s clearly out of
Position but he just runs and loses it. No creativity, no spatial awareness and he’s a poor passer. He needs to be sat in midfield and allowed to go box to box like Toure and he’ll be more effective.

  • 46 Rotonda heights // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:41 AM

The abuse you, I and Beattie etc have taken has been very unpleasant at times when all you want is the best for the club and when you can see someone damaging it so badly it is very hard to take.

I don’t take any pleasure in saying I told you so but given his previous it was always on the cards.

If a manager was trying to play football the right way you would want him to have more time, but Pardew is something out of the dark ages and seems to have alienated Anita, Marveaux, Colo and previously Ba to name a few.

  • 47 markmac // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:41 AM

catchy – i think now tbh if he ever going to ‘go’ however that may be [sack, mutual consent etc] i think itl be now or soon anyway but i guess you may say is that too late…lets just hope not :-[

  • 48 danuneek // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:42 AM

    Mark the Mag, no chance.

Goufran is no winger, Ben Arfa is no striker, Perch is no full back and Jonas can’t cross. Where is Cisse? he is our only goal threat and is likely to nick a late goal. That team would get hammered.

  • 49 Jail for Ashley // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:42 AM

It’s very easy for you to lay the blame solely on Pardews shoulders but stay away when we win,was Pardew here the last time we got relegated with a whimper,I don’t think he was,Mike Ashley was though, maybe there is something so repugnant about a man who was proved a liar and con man in court that makes the modern football not want to do their bit for a man like that.

  • 50 tunearmy // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:42 AM

This is a battle and the French are a bit renowned as being ‘surrender monkeys.’ They need some rousing and motivating for the next few games.

Pardew is not the kind of person you would want to go into battle with.
Just hope he realizes it’s not working and make changes.

With backs against the wall we need to come out fighting or we’ll take a proper kicking and loose some teeth.
Start playing attacking football and when the goal comes go for another and let’s see the flashes of brilliance we saw occasionally this season and when the new signings first arrived.

But do they give a F###

  • 51 Tommyy // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:43 AM

Also looking at the circumstances and what’s happened and then comparing to other teams around us, Pardew has done possibly as badly as we could have envisaged. Everyone talks about injuries, check out Villa’s injury list this season and the amount of kids they’ve played. Number of games should not matter at all, yes we can let them off the odd game due to Long travel but many of these players have played in Europe before so it’s really no excuse.
At the end of the day it’s bad management, bad coaching and complacency from a management team clearly sub par.
I really do think many of us could have done an equal job I really do.

  • 52 davis_toons // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:43 AM

Of course it’s not Pardew’s fault for being a parsnip, and it’s Ashley’s fault for planting him there in charge in the first place. But needs must, and the one decision that would make the biggest difference at this point is the immediate sacking of Pardew.

It would enable to fans to get wholeheartedly behind the club, and the players to have a chance to do what they do best – unfettered by the tactical incompetence of the man. Pardew’s incompetence has always been a major problem waiting to happen, and a handful on here (including me) have been screaming this for 2 1/2 years.

Ed buried his head in the sand and backed AP all the way until he recently U-turned. The hero-worship (look at that header) was so painful at times I gave up.

Bottom line is Pardew will not change, but he’ll take the bloody club down if he is not changed!!

We needed someone young, a tactician and he could be Roberto Martínez.

In 2007, Swansea contacted Martínez to offer him the position of manager. He accepted the offer and retired from playing, soon bringing success to the Swans. He won the League One Manager of the Year Award in his first season as Swansea were crowned League One Champions, which took the club back to England’s second-tier division after a 24-year absence. Martínez later accepted an offer to become the manager of Wigan Athletic

Hopefully he can do something better, if selected before leaving it in good hands to the “Special II”

The older style is not working anymore.

  • 75 Slank // Apr 29, 2013 at 11:59 AM

Many of the team that played against WBA, Sunderland and Liverpool lack confidence, look tired physically and mentally. Therefore I would rest as many as possible. It’s a big risk but I believe well worth taking.

The much maligned Willo needs to play to stop Carroll in the air. The equally much maligned Simpson has to replace the suspended Debuchy. Colo to return as captain and who can read the game better than anyone else at the club and has a calming influence. Jonas to replace Haidara who really is not good enough, yet.

I would like to replace Cabaye as he looks shot both mentally and physically but I don’t see any suitable replacement. Ben Arfa has to play as he can open up defences. I would like Marveaux to play as he two can open up defences. I would stick with Sissoko but in the middle to partner Cabaye. The risk is not having a specialist defensive midfield player like Tiote or Perch.

Cisse needs a partner. It’s between Shola, Campbell and Gouffran. I would go with Gouffran as he is more direct whereas Shola is directionless and Campbell is too inexperienced.

We should go out and attack with a high tempo.

    My team therefore is:

    Simpson, Willo, Colo, Jonas
    Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Sissoko, Marveaux,
    Cisse, Gouffran

I’ve gone past sticking up for him as I want shot of him as well, but I do think he had a smaller pot than some of those mentioned at the start of last season which was unjustifiable it wasn’t until the rot had truly set in that five untested Frenchman were brought in.

must have imagined city winning the league last year with that funny looking little Argie chap.

Don’t agree with what he did, but Mancini didn’t overlook the guy completely

I think 52000 people 2 matches running is pretty decent support don’t you?

  • 79 Greebol1892 // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:03 PM

I see Ed still desperate to see Mbiwa at full-back….
I think we’ve always seemed quite solid with STaylor at RB when he’s played there so why not? Keep Haidara and get Colo in BUT…. you can guarantee Tiote and Jonas will start, and Sissoko on RIGHT WING FFS! because Pards CAN’T change it now and has lost the plot.

The thing that wears no.23 and pretends to be a footballer and shouldn’t be anywhere near 1st team, will have a big part to play through Pard’s eyes. Hoof.

Many of us were hounded and derided for pointing out the folly that was Pardew from day 1. However I’m certain we don’t find a witless 0-6 defeat and impending relegation as any sort of laughing matter.

  • 83 Transfer Sage // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:06 PM

west ham are a physical team, like the long ball and getting it wide. Think we need to attack them to try and keep them on the back foot.

I’d play this side (433 with the forward 3 quite narrow like cisse/ba/ben arfa last year)

    simmo taylor colo haidara
    marv cabaye anita
    hba cisse gouff

For me mbiwa was a let down, no effort, drop him…means will or saylor with colo, willo was in terrible form and not played so i’d pick saylor (shows fight at least)

Haidara is only left back so has to play, same as simmo at RB.

I’d have anita to help us keep the ball, tiote is too out of form to play. sissoko looks exhausted and is struggling so i’d prefer marv in the middle.

I’d then have a narrow front 3, all can score, good movement will do for west ham i hope…they are in form so wont be easy.

  • 85 Rainrix // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:10 PM

Sage… If mbiwa was a let down then surely taylor was as well? Regardless i’d play either taylor or mbiwa at RB and the other can partner colo. We could do with as much height in the backline as possible.

  • 86 John Tudor // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:12 PM

saylor 50-1 to have a go at carrol

  • 87 Transfer Sage // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:14 PM

Not for me he wasn’t. He made mistakes but mbiwa left him exposed time and time again. They were holding a good line then mbiwa kept stepping up into no mans land.

Also taylor at least tried to get back when beatedm, mbiwa didn’t even walk back, just stood. He should have gotten back just incase the keeper saves or it hits the post.

all i have ever wanted was the best for newcastle, this is hard to take :(

CH was never a great coach, but i respected him, he came in and did a great job, i dont think he will ever be a top5 coach, but id have him back in a heart beat

yes other do need to take blame,

DL is not the man to lead our club,

but my main concern has always been with the style of play our team plays,
DL has nothing todo with match days, you can go and visit clubs up and down the country and see teams that cost nothing play or try to play football,,
this is all pardew, you dont need the best player in the world for every position to try and get it to work, we could all manage that team,
a good coach can do good things with average players, fergy has just done it this season

JFK played better football than pardew , and that is something

pardew has taken a team with great spirit and he has broken that spirit,

i still believe we have a top 4 team, and if fergy had that team, we would be top 2, just need another striker

these are not even prem class players, yet some think because they play in black and white, there world beaters,

i would rather play fergy, bigi , tav, prob even good, campbell, give them a taste and let them learn

  • 91 Le Belfast 007 // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:23 PM

I want him sacked like, though I really don’t want to see someone like Lee Clark replace him.

It would just be another sideways step. Would love Benitez, though I don’t see that one happening.

  • 92 valle // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:25 PM

I have been thinking allot about the idea of Benitez as our next manager, which seems to be the name linked the strongest with us. Im actually warming to the idea, his Liverpool team was not a bad one and came the closest to winning the premier league as they have ever been (Only since it took that name in 92 ofc) and his Valencia team played gorgeous football. As long as we dont go for a british manager I will be happy though. We need new ideas, new tactics, new training and a whole other way of thinking football altogether.

  • 93 Le Belfast 007 // Apr 29, 2013 at 12:29 PM

Getting rid of Pardew might be the right thing to do, but not we have all the info that even with the new players who boosted us we dropped back off.

the worst thing (for me anyway in the past 3 games) is the first half at west brom. It showed that we can set up attacking and it does work for us. We should have played sunderland, liverpool and west brom 2nd half like that.

It’s more annoying because we can see thats the solution and Pardew can solve the problem just for whatever reason he is choosing not to.

TS…I’m not blind as some may like to think, I’m just keeping an open mind. Not like I’m in a position to start protesting outside the ground.

I said it yesterday, but Ashley needs to speak with the players and find out if this is a protest against Pardew. If it is, he goes now, if not, we hold on and hope they find the fight.

If the players feel they’ve let Pardew done, which for all we know is possible, it may well demoralise them futher by sacking him now. So many guesses being made on here.

All I can hope is that given the seriousness of our situation, and it is serious, that Ashley will deal with it after properly assessing what the situation actually is.

P.S. Catchy, just realised I gave you a sorry in that last post 😉

Theres no point debating the pro s and cons of Pardew anymore or point scoring amongst ourselves as to who recognised first how clueless he is.

Its self-evident now that he is completely out of his depth and the players look totally confused and bewildered.

The priority now is for Ashley to find someone to steer us through these last 3 games to try and salvage PL survival.

No way should Pardew be allowed to tinker around with our talented squad any longer in the hope that he might fall on a winning formula.

Surely Ashley will realise theres too much at stake to leave this chancer in charge any longer.

  • 124 vanderlee // Apr 29, 2013 at 1:15 PM

We need strength and determination as much as anything else for Saturday. I don’t think it is our best 11 but the team I would play is:

    Perch, Taylor, Colo, Haidara

    Perch, Tiote

    Ben Arfa. Cabaye, Anita

Anita can play on the left and will provide some cover and interesting to see if he can pick a pass from there.

Cabaye and Ben Arfa will support Cisse to get the goals.

I rate MBiwa but this season we have been miles better when Colo and Saylor have played.

Perch over Simpson at RB as he will give a damn!

Harper over Elliot to take Rob out the firing line and get someone marshalling the defence which clearly didn’t happen last week

  • 125 boater // Apr 29, 2013 at 1:17 PM

I can’t believe that so many have picked a side and left out Tiote, we need him more than anyother player we have, we are in a fight, and you leave our best fighter out of the side for an average championship player like Perch, god help us.
    Simpson, Taylor, Mbiwa, Haidara
    Cabaye Sissoko, Tiote
    Ben Arfa, Marveaux
Play 3 deep midfielders in an attempt to control the game and give Benny a free role with Marveaux playing behind Cisse, Marveaux is the only one who seems able to make a pass quick enough to keep Cisse onside, Cisse does look a better player when he has Marveaux, but Perch for Tiote, come on lads its to important to play silly buggers and continue with this Tiote witch hunt, Perch is out of his depth !

Give it a rest will you. People tell you to shut up all the time because you put your points across in an annoying, aggressive and immature way. It’s nothing to do with what you say, it’s the way you say it.

And despite all you say about never abusing anyone, I’ve read you telling people that they’re ‘not a Newcastle fan’ plenty of times.

You’re still at it now, listing players who are “not even prem class”. What rubbish, there’s plenty teams in the league who would kill to have a player like Jonas in their team. Elliott has proved himself a worthy #2 goalkeeper on many occasions, and single handedly kept us in the Europa League earlier this year.

  • 132 magpie6699 // Apr 29, 2013 at 1:41 PM

vanderlee – I gather you like Perch but playing him in 2 positions at once is asking a bit much!

    Cabaye Sissoko Perchinho / Anita
    HBA Cisse Goofy

Shame if we go down, we have potentially the best squad we have ever had in the Premier. If only we could have added in the summer, we never learnt from the time we only brought Bowyer after a good season, that is the time to progress. Just read an old article from the summer when steve wraith was criticised by the club for saying there was a big unrest amongst the players about the lack of transfers, they slated him but turns out he was right. 7-8 world class players in our team, quite possibly some of the best to ever wear b&w stripes, Krul,HBA,cabaye.

Sissoko is not a winger. Perch and tiote are dm. Cabaye is not a winger .Jonas……..Well.Everybody in the stadium can see what’s happening. Well apart from parsnip and his brigade of merry followers with their ankles hanging out his @rse

  • 149 Spoof // Apr 29, 2013 at 2:16 PM

JT, getting in each others way could happen, but last season at the start we had two banks of four which made us difficult to break down, we were good defensively, I feel under the circumstances that it may be best to revert back to that type of game, then again it could be argued that if you have a poor defence you could play a 3-5-2 and just go for it, we do have the attacking players to do that and it worked for Wigan last season. Decisions, decisions, who would want to be a football manager eh !

No threat down the wings coz Debuchy and Haidara have struggled with no help from the man in front of them. Both bomb on with pace and skill but run into blind alleys because they have no wideman helping them out or playing a 1-2 creating space for them its an important partnership for defence and attack, Enrique, jonas style. Great cross by Haidara for perch square bonce, if that had gone in it would have changed the complexion of the game, another sitter missed, did u see carraghers face

the back for will have more of a presence and power, the midfield has power with the sissoko and the passing and creativity of the rest of the players, gouffan has much better pace movement and composure than cisse has and will finish his chances. pretty simple solution if only pardew opens his eyes but he is too blind by his favorite word ‘experience’, the game is about movement and and tactical awareness not just experience

i think i started of with very good intentions, saying i did not like obertan playing, he gave us nothing, then i sat watched game after game where we had no clue what we were doing, and when we lost, what pardew said for reasons, never matched the game i wtched,,

but all i got told was we are 5th, be happy

Would you trust Simpson to put in a shift knowing relegation is the only way he could possibly stay at the club. Mbiwa played well there in his first few games.

  • 160 TheWellGeordie // Apr 29, 2013 at 2:38 PM

    Am I the only one who thinks we should stop with the 5 man midfield? We need more adventure on the wings and more in defense. My 11 would be;

    Simpson – Coloccini – Taylor – Mbiwa – Haidara
    ——————- Sissoko —— Anita
    ————————— Cabaye
    —————-Ben Arfa ——– Gouffran

Cisse spends most of the game offside and Gouffran creates more problems for defenders for me. Simmo and Haidara can advance on the wings without having to leave the defence exposed and we can attack with at least 4 players every time.

the wellgeordie, you have effectively still got a 5 man midfield if the full backs are pushing on, that system creates pressure on the midfield 3 as the opposing winger can push much higher up the pitch creating easy crosses for the opposition to put into the box, playing westham like that will andy carroll a total field day of chances to score.

Catchy…Maybe you don’t realise it, but from day one all you seem to focus on is the negative. I’m sure you can see why people found it to be a wind up. There are other posters who have criticised aspects of Pardew and the team, but you just don’t ever seem to enjoy any of it…at all (maybe I’ve missed one or two comments though).

As I said, you do make some very good and valid points, but it gets lost in what has appeared as straight up hatred since day one. It has made it hard to take you seriously.

catchy in norway // Nov 18, 2012 at 12:51 PM

    tarie 4

    sorry its late, dam work

the reasons i think the club are now going backwards

NO1, pardew, he talks a good game, most actually believe the words comming out of his mouth,, but that old saying , actions speak louder than words, his actions or lack of them prove week after week he is not good enough

no2, team spirit, blame ba, blame cisse, blame obertan ,shola, anyone, ba last season, spat the dummy, he got played on the left, to no effect, but was on the pitch, said if he dont play through the center he was off, marv running away because he was named a sub, shola running down the tunnel after being subbed, after we just had a man sent off,, next week he is in the side right side of a front 3, hey he was great there ,
you can not tell me that our players esp midfield, can be happy watching that ball go over there heads 80 times a game? will this create good team spirit,

no3, training or lack of training, you can not sit there and say they practice that football we watch at the weekend, its just not posseble
first season back in the prem, i remember playing man city, they played much better football but lost, but i was proud, i thought we where the better team, city finished 3rd that year, and we out played them under CH, and it wasnt just one game, it was many,, we had a style,

no4, his interviews leave you confused,
pardews words of wisdom, some of my faves
HBA, he is a real gem, he is a proper no 10, we are lucky to have him,, then saying well if he wants to be in the team he has to do more work for the team to get in

gets himself fit, shoved out on the right, only after we fans screamed and screamed that obertan wasnt good enough, but we still had to wait til obertan got injured, hmmm HBA in the side every week, obertan on the bench,, guess we were right about that one

obertan, he is a confidence player, he needs to feel loved,, week after week, we are wining or not losing obertan is getting worse and worse, fans at the ground booing him, surley , any kind hearted guy wouldsay, son,, im taken you out of the lime light for a while and work on his game,, pardew sent him out to be slaughterd every week,, and i still dont see any improvement in his game,
he still cuts inside, he still loses the ball a lot, he still can not cross a ball

yesterday, after the match, . listen to his words,

we had a lot of kids out there today, kind of as an excuse for loosing then says in his next breath, we were better than last week, contradicts himself a bit,, should we stick with the kids, who played better??

as a team/club, we have took a step backwards from what CH did for the club

my 2 weeks was just me being funny, the rest of that comment was all true though,

i would expect to see a new manager stamp his brand of football on the club within 6 months of joing the club

take rodgers at liverpool,, there in no way in hell they have a better squad than ours, ours is better in every way, that team has been driven by gerrad for so long he was a one man team, but rodgers now has them passing the ball like they where brazil

take laudrup yesteday, tookover from rodgers, but still pass the ball, and created clearer chances,,

and lets get one fact straight,, do i like changing managers,, no, not one bit,, but in pardew, i think he is limited in what he can do with quality players,

he can make pub players look great, but he can also make great players look like pub players,, he does that every week

  • 176 toonarmydownsouth // Apr 29, 2013 at 2:55 PM

My team for west ham would be

    simmo Mbiwa colo haidara
    cabaye socks
    hba cisse gouff

First person I’d drop is Taylor
The blokes a complete liability, I’m sorry sage but I disagree with what you were saying about mbiwa and haidara hanging him out to dry, Taylor has no, and never has, positional sense, he runs round like a headless chicken
Debuchy mbiwa and haidara were all playing a high line and for 2 of those goals if Taylor had the f yoking common sense to check his lines he would of stepped up to
But he constantly plays people onside
As for his fight I think your misplacing that for his stupidity he’s a liability and for me him and tiote would be first out the door in the summer

I wanted to put anita in but I think west ham would obliterate him!

  • 177 TheWellGeordie // Apr 29, 2013 at 2:56 PM

@ DCarter – I see what you’re saying but I disagree. If Simmo and Haidara are pushing up the field we still have 3 centre-halves back to hold the line and gives everyone else on the field the chance to spread out and create space on the attack, not to mention we only need one of them to push up at a time. The crosses might come in but I’m confident on the abilities of Sissoko, Anita an Cabaye to shut them out, not to mention on the defensive I think Simmo does a fine job, and Haidara has potential. The only players that will be able to put accurate balls down for Carroll are Nolan an Noble, and I think they would struggle to do it against this set-up.

Carroll will play deep and try to get on the end of a long ball, I have a feeling the MYM and Coloccini wouldn’t give him much room to do that.

if anyone would like to go and check,, its all on this blog somewhere,

but i think you will not find any negativity from me towards pardew until about 10 games into last season,

i like many other vented towards DL after the sacking of CH,
all i said before obertan was getting games was , pardew wasnt good enough, but that was when he first joined,,

then something switched a light on towards pardew, i could see he was only saying what ppl wanted to here,

he said many times we never got our passing game going, or we wasnt at the races today, but when you really sat and watched the football, we had nothing about us,

i didnt like how he tret HBA, i think his use of him now is wrong, i carnt understand how you would want to use him as a right winger and make him track back, we lose the best part of his game

Catchy…Not sure then. To be honest, I’m not going to trawl through the blogs archives to find out when and how it all started, so will, for the sake of my sanity, give you the benefit of doubt.

As I said though, I can’t recall a time where you have seemed happy with anything and do seem to concentrate on the negatives, I suppose it could be argued that I concentrate more on the positives. I feel a speech about middle ground coming on :)

I personally don’t agree with your view on how Benny has been handled, this season or last. IF we had a better suited winger, then sure, utilise him in his better role.

It’s a bit like the Cabaye situation. Should be further up field, but if we can’t get the ball to him, he’s wasted up top (slightly different as Anita could play the deeper role to distribute the ball to Cabaye, but I think you’ll get my point).

Jesper…Silver lining, hmmm….at least Newcastle aren’t going bankrupt?

I am struggling a bit at the minute. It might be hard to see or accept right now, but I feel there is still some fight left in our boys, we only got a glimpse against Liverpool (if you blinked you may have missed it), but it was there. If they can find a way to use that then we should be safe.

As I said a week or so ago, we just need this season to finish and still be a PL team.

Perch is no more than a championship full back at best and that’s it.

New poster, thought I would share my two pence worth. Not sure if a 5-3-2 has been suggested before but this formation will hopefully address two areas of where we have been disjoint, defence and midfield.
    So here’s my Team

    Mbiwa____Taylor____ Colo _____Willo____Haidara
    _____ Gouffran _____ Cabaye _____Sissoko_____
    _______________ Cisse _____ HBA_____________

Although arguably Gouffran is not a natural midfielder, he has the pace and strength to run up and down the field to assist with attack and defence. Something that HBA lacks, plus having him higher up the field will give him the opportunity to make an impact in the final 3rd.

  • 198 cockneymagpie90 // Apr 29, 2013 at 5:32 PM

Excuse after excuse get him the f*** out!!!

Haidara wasnt the reason why we lost 6-0!!!!!!!!!!

Hes made mistakes all season and his recent ones are playing out of form tiote over and over again while a quality player in anita sits and watches.

He then plays Sissoko in a CAM role where that isnt his position, he cant f****** play there, simple as that. He hasnt got the technical ability in the final 3rd.

He plays gutierrez on the wing which causes no attacking threat what so ever, hes a CM for goodness sake!! Its obvious!!!

And then he leaves our attacking threat on the bench ie marvo, benarfa, gouffran and campbell!!!

Hes a bloody joke, everyone im support of him shiuld be ashamed of yourselves!!

We need as many people against him so he gets the boot, if he stays nufc are no longer a premier league team or atleast another relegation battle next season!!

  • 201 Poshtoon // Apr 29, 2013 at 7:06 PM

We should be playing a 433.

    Simpson Colo Saylor Hadaira
    Cabaye Tiote Sissoko
    HBA Cisse Gouffran

There are only a few ways in which we score goals. One is that Cabaye produces a great pass and Cisse manages to stay onside. The other is we play it through the middle and someone produces some magic to put Cisse in or give Gouffran a chance. We do not score from runs down the wing and we do not score from corners, so there would be no real damage done by the lack of width the 433 brings.

Sissoko is a box to box player. He needs options in front of him when he gets in to the oppositions third. Pards is playing him far to far forward.

We are a fast team. We should be able to hit teams on the break, but we can’t do that if Cisse is up front on his own, and if there is noone to bring it forward. Tiote should be in the team purely for when we are not on the ball. He needs to be able to offload to Cabaye or Sissoko, so they can feed the attack. Tiote has been criticised alot this season. Partly for his discipline, which is fair, but also for his inability to pass. He shouldn’t be being asked to play this role. It’s not his strenghth and we have other players who could easily help him in this respect.

Gouffran is a quality player, and with his pace he should be given the chance to get in behind the opposition defence more.

I think that we have a more complete team than we did last year. It is just being used in an ineffective manner.
