It’s Good News Bad News For Newcastle

4:46 pm, Thursday, May 2nd, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 114 Comments

It’s good news bad news from Alan Pardew at his press conference today – and the bad news is that Newcastle have sustained yet another injury in training – this time to Massadio Haidara – what goes on in the Newcastle training?

Fab Coloccini - training

Fab Coloccini – in training this week – he’s back!

Massadio has sustained what seems a common a common injury at Newcastle – a hamstring strain – and he will now miss the vital game with West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.

But the good news – very good news – is that captain Fabricio Coloccini will be back to captain the side.

Coloccini has trained  for over a week now, and it seems his back injury is no longer bothering him, and maybe he can bring some much needed stability to the defense, which has looked hopeless since we were eliminated from the Europa League by Benfica.

Alan Pardew had this to say about his captain:

“Colo is fit and well”

That’s  great news on Coloccini,  and we’ll need him over the last three games of the season if we are to survive relegation.

We’ll bring you more of the press conference soon.

Comments very welcome.

have to say the haidara injury, though inconvenient is not a worry to me.

Well, I better get ready for my match now.

    Pardew’s Press Conference…

We’re pulling together, trying to get a result, and the fact that we have a lot of French players and some language difficulty has been kind of torn up and made to be something else.
“There’s no problem and we go to the next game.
“If you think, because the players are from a foreign countries or some of our players are not bothered, it’s just ridiculous. Of course they’re bothered. Our frustrations and our professionalism are on the line but we have the destiny of ourselves in our own hands.
“No-one else – we’re not in the hands of anyone else. Only us can put it right. We’ve got a little gap so we need to exploit that and make sure we extend it.
“I haven’t even looked at the run-ins of the other clubs because it’s very, very important that you focus on yourself. The destiny’s very much in our own hands and we need to make sure that we get the wins that we need – if it’s two wins, if it’s three wins, I have no idea.
“Some of the wildfire that we’ve had has just been way, way off the mark. But we put a poor performance in on Saturday and we need to put that right. That’s the most important thing.”

    One Word… Balls.

ahh yes i clicked on now, bit slow today

  • 7 Carryingcoals // May 2, 2013 at 5:02 PM

    Brown Alien

I like your team, bit untested for the toon in the full back positions but perhaps they are the best alternatives.

Consider Simmo right back and Anita in for Tiote, or on the bench ready to come on if the midfield is doing poorly.

  • 8 Newcastle Brown Alien // May 2, 2013 at 5:04 PM

carrying, yeah, i could be wrong, but i get the feeling that simpson may be uninterested and not fight, which could be lethal against jarvis and anita would try and fight for a place.

  • 9 Klatoon // May 2, 2013 at 5:05 PM

Simmo and Jonas as fb’s for me.

  • 10 BigKirky // May 2, 2013 at 5:06 PM

“Some of the wildfire that we’ve had has just been way, way off the mark.”

Alan, we’ve conceded 9 goals in two games at home and played disgustingly. Wide of the mark you say? Are you just that used to being down there struggling and fighting against relegation throughout your career that only a little criticism should be allowed?

It’s not good enough, and you will take what you get from the fans who have to pay good money to watch it each week.

  • 11 Twatter // May 2, 2013 at 5:07 PM

Anita at RB? No thanks. Would rather have Simpson there.

I’d imagine Tiote will start – exactly what good he’ll do I don’t know, but Cabaye and Sissoko have been no better recently anyway.

  • 12 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:11 PM

The injuries that we have sustained this season are simply sickening, especially when most of them have been muscle pull’s or strains picked up in training. There is something endemically wrong with the players fitness levels and conditioning for it to be as bad as it is and thats why we need to completely change how we operate.

Sacking Pardew has to be only the first step in a coaching shake up. We only have two 1st team coaches in Carver and Stone, Andy Woodman as goalkeeping coach and Simon Tweddle as our sole fitness coach, where the likes of Borussia Dortmun have Klopp as manager, two assistant coaches, two fitness coaches and an athletics coach and a goalkeeping coach plus a medical staff that far out weights what we have.

It isn’t down to poor luck that we’ve had so many players missing this season, it’s down to the fact that we are being run on a bare minimum and thats something that seriously needs to change

  • 13 santonthenewmaldini // May 2, 2013 at 5:12 PM

Simpson has actually played very well the last few games that he played did i just say that??

He has never just packed it in during a game for us either always gives 100% even if he is not the best technically plus I think he can deal with Jarvis not sure Debuchy would at this time of asking needs a little more time to get used to premier league

Plus Simpson has a new contract to play for either with us or someone else so he has to play well to impress because it does not look like there has been a queue of clubs trying to get him

    No worries Big Kirky.

  • 18 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:22 PM

This will be the final nail in Pardews coffin

  • 19 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:23 PM

Whats the club have one by banning the Telegraph is get their backs up and they will now go out of their way to publish stories that will hit the club hard

  • 20 BigKirky // May 2, 2013 at 5:25 PM

    Luke Edwards on 5 Live:

    * Some players moaning about tactics to Pardew

    * Back-biting from players

    * Was contacted from his contact within the club about the goings on.

    * Says he has notes and short-hand writings from convo with contact.

    * Clubs generally lean on local journalists to promote positives from the club.

Just a few points from him talking on radio.

  • 21 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // May 2, 2013 at 5:26 PM

Well that didn’t really reveal much.

Claims info came from employees, including playing staff.

Mainly he discussed how he thinks it’s bizarre that he’s been banned, not really about the actual problems.

Oh and he did it to help the club, by giving the information he’s giving them an opportunity to sort it out.

Still not sold either way tbh. Struggle to portray a journalist as an innocent victim.

Having said all of that, the club could have handled this better.

  • 22 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:28 PM

It’s just another case of the heavy handed way that the club deal with people. By banning him they have caused bigger problems and this will not go away now

  • 23 santonthenewmaldini // May 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

Well I am glad that there is players arguing over Pardew’s tactics and methods cause they have been shite all season !!

Wish the players had voiced their concerns a long time ago as we would probably be safe by now and in the semi final of the Europa league!!!

  • 24 danuneek // May 2, 2013 at 5:29 PM

No way to Jonas left back, did you not see him against Man City?!!! Mbiwa has to go left back with Simmo right back, that way we’re not getting caught out with them playing as wingers. It might not be a bad thing with Simpson returning, he’s better defensively than Debuchy and is particularly strong in the air.

Also, we need Sissoko in his propper DM role as we need height and power to combat Nolan’s aerial threat. Taylor to combat Carroll and obviously he knows how his game as well, and Colo to be calm and collected in possession.

4-4-2 for me as Cisse needs a partner to work the channels and link midfield with attack, I’m torn between strolla and Goufran for this role, problem is Goufran will work the channels but Strolla will hold it up better.

I feel this is a game we’re not going to dominate in the air, so we have to get it down and play. Dominate possession and keep the ball (never going to happen though is it?). The midfield is key for this, Cabaye and Sissoko in the middle, Anita on the right and Ben Arfa on the left. They can both deliver an early good ball into the box on their favored foot, without having to cut inside. Anita obviously will provide a bit of extra defensive cover, and Ben Arfa will be playing in front of the more defensive minded Mbiwa (who is pretty quick). So that’s how I would set up, plenty of experience, technical quality and pace in the right areas.

    Anita———Cabaye—-Sissoko——Ben arfa

Hasn’t the Telegraph been banned once before from SJP, or am I getting something mixed up?

Jesper…That he’s just being an honest reporter and that he has been told that their is unrest and divide and that the club really only want positive news coming out…something along those lines anyway.

    Simpson! 🙂

  • 29 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:32 PM

Thump – I think we’ve banned everyone at one time or another. Pity they wouldn’t ban Pardew for impersonating a football manager 😀

  • 31 Beattie25 // May 2, 2013 at 5:33 PM

M’bwia shouldn’t be at left back IMO.

Might as well as put Shola there.

Anita or Perch for me as both have played there previously including Anita for half a season at Ajax.

  • 32 Munster Mag // May 2, 2013 at 5:33 PM

  • 36 lesh // May 2, 2013 at 5:36 PM

  • 37 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // May 2, 2013 at 5:37 PM

Jesper…I’m not convinced either way tbh. I’m sure the club don’t want negative reports out there and I’m also sure that a reporter will make things seem worse for a good story.

A few phrases in the article make me feel it’s a bit of a cop out

“Newcastle United’s dressing room is in danger of a damaging split”

“The tension is believed to be down to the fact some individuals have been more interested in complaining about tactics and worrying about their own personal agendas rather than helping the club to survive in the Premier League.”

I’m sure there have been words had and complaints made, but how bad is it? I suppose we’ll know more on Saturday.

  • 38 BigKirky // May 2, 2013 at 5:37 PM

I remember Alan Oliver was banned…

I thought it was a lot earlier than that though.

  • 39 danuneek // May 2, 2013 at 5:40 PM

Beattie25, Why shouldn’t Mbiwa be played at left back?

He plays on the left side of CD and he’s actually got a strong left foot which makes him better equipped for that role than either Perch or Anita, both of which are right footed.

Perch never looks particularly good in a full back role and tends to be quite rash and jumps in. Anita … well… he’s about 2 foot and we need as much height as possible in defense.

  • 40 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:41 PM

Why is it that everything we do ends up being a bloody PR disaster?

    Ha ha ha

Question to Pardew – ”What do you think you need from these 3 games coming up?”

    AP: “I have no idea”.

    Question from previous thread:

    ilovetoon8788 // May 2, 2013 at 3:48 PM

Interesting thing is, have we actually won more games with willo in the team than Taylor? Maybe he’s much better than we think he is?

I don’t have the comparative figures for Willo v Taylor, but it is a fact that we’ve tended to concede fewer goals and keep more clean sheets when Willo has been playing.

He’s played in almost exactly half of the premier league games this season (18 out of 35) and these are the stats for each of those games (showing goals conceded in brackets)

    a) the 18 games that Willo played in:

    Everton A (2), Norwich H (0), Reading A (2), Man Utd H (3), Sunderland A (1), West Brom H (1), West Ham H (1), Swansea H (2), Soton A (2), Stoke A (2), Wigan H (0), Fulham A (2), Man City H (3), QPR H (0), Man Utd A (4), Everton H (2), Norwich A (0), Reading H (2)

    Total goals against: 29
    Goals against per game: 1.61
    Clean sheets: 4

    b) the 17 games that Willo DIDN’T play in:

    Spurs H (1), Chelsea A (2), Villa H (1), Liverpool A (1), Arsenal A (7), Villa A (1), Chelsea H (2), Spurs A (2), Soton H (2), Swansea A (1), Stoke H (1), Wigan A (2), Man City A (4), Fulham H (0), Sunderland H (3), West Brom A (1), Liverpool H (6)

    Total goals against: 37
    Goals against per game: 2.18
    Clean sheets: one

So the answer to your question is yes. Willo is much better than people on here think he is.

  • 44 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 5:43 PM

If a journalist mention’s an unnamed contact or a reliable source you can be assured that the story is a total fabrication which should be ignored, Newcastle are in a right mess at the minute, the last thing we need is a bare faced liar of a journalist preventing us from concentrating on the job in hand, he has rightly been banned and should never be allowed back in, anyone who tries to be harmful to our club should never be allowed back in.
As for some players not liking the tactics, as with every club, Real, Barca, Man U, Bayern, the whole lot of them, you can be assured that there will be one or two players who are unhappy and will use poor tactics which don’t suit him as a reason for them not being in the side, what this vile man is done is to use a natural feeling for a non first teamer to try and make matters even worse than what they currently are, he should have his hands cut off so he can no longer write garbage in an attempt to try and damage us

  • 45 Beattie25 // May 2, 2013 at 5:44 PM

I think if it was the middle of the season then M’bwia could play there as an experiment but this isn’t the time to put a player in a new position and hope he plays well.

We need someone who has experience of playing LB. I’d play Perch for his strong mentality and ability to communicate with Colo.

Don’t forget that M’bwia doesn’t even speak English yet.

  • 46 Beattie25 // May 2, 2013 at 5:45 PM

    chris g

I don’t think Willo is better, just Saylor is a lot worse.

  • 47 Ibizatoon - Back By Popular Demand // May 2, 2013 at 5:48 PM

Jesper…if it were completely true then the article would have been a lot more damning imo. Just hinting at cr*p, which makes me think it is mainly cr*p.

Spoof…I’m with you. May have a hint of truth, but is designed to cause more grief.

  • 48 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 5:48 PM

the man claims to have proof through txt message conversations save on his phone. If the club want to push this issue we’ll find out who was telling the truth and who was telling porkies.

Was it right to publish the story? No it wasn’t in my biased opinion.

Where the club right in their handling of the matter? No, as yet again the have taken the approach of using a sledge hammer to crack an egg.

  • 52 danuneek // May 2, 2013 at 5:52 PM

Mbiwa played full back in his first few games and looked decent, also he’s played that role for Montpellier.

I get your point about communication, but at the same time all players understand the language of football.

Perch hasn’t actually played a lot for us at full back, we signed him as a RB but he looked very poor and was quickly replaced. I think he’s actually a better defensive mid than full back.

In the end, I would rather have a strong left footed CD playing left back than a right footed CM with a poor history playing in that position.

But as far as the debate goes, lets just agree to disagree…

  • 53 geordie1892 // May 2, 2013 at 5:56 PM

We can speculate all day long but the unfortunate reality is Jonas is playing left back against the hammers.

  • 54 danuneek // May 2, 2013 at 5:56 PM

Also, “but this isn’t the time to put a player in a new position and hope he plays well.” When has Perch played left back this season?

  • 55 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 5:57 PM

JB, with such a reaction from the club, if there were any truth in it he would have defended himself and named the source, as he hasn’t done that we have to assume that it is indeed just rubbish, I could claim that I have two heads four arms no legs and a six foot tail, but until I prove that to be true you should treat the claim with contempt, which is what I feel we should be doing with the Luke Edwards claim.

  • 56 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 6:02 PM

the club has stated that they may take legal action against him/Telegraph lets see if they follow it up?

The press lie all the time so we automatically call them all liers, but lets face it the club have lied to us so many times how the hell are we expected to believe them? If you want to, then fine, but for me? no thanks, I simply don’t trust or believe Llambias and co and the performances on the pitch would say that there is something very, very wrong

  • 57 NUFC_LEAZES END // May 2, 2013 at 6:03 PM

haidara wouldn’t hve featured in my preferred line up anyways

    simmo taylor colo mbiwa
    cabaye sissoko tiote
    ben arfa cisse gouffran

and that’s a 4-3-3 not a shitty 4-2-3-1 that pardew plays with sissoko as an attacking midfielder. LW and RW, not pardews shit RM and LM

  • 58 geordie1892 // May 2, 2013 at 6:03 PM

  • 64 lordjoesnow // May 2, 2013 at 6:10 PM

@57 oh sweet the 4-3-3. Now that was exciting when we had Martins Viduka and Owen up front sharing the goals out!

The further up field Ben Arfa is, the better. We can’t risk him losing that ball again in midfield and conceding a goal because our defenders have zero pace

  • 65 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 6:11 PM

It’s funny how we all spend the entire week posting our teams/formations for the coming games, pity Pardew didn’t take as much time and effort with the actual squad he has

  • 66 Thump // May 2, 2013 at 6:12 PM

I don’t like the Telegraph’s reaction to the ban. They’re almost bragging about it.

“The article that caused our ban”

  • 67 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 6:14 PM

JB, as for the performance on the pitch what it tells me is that we are not as good as we thought we were.
A 6 goal hammering does not mean that a manager has lost the dressing room, which is basically what Edwards is claiming, Di Canio has only been in charge for 4 games, has he already lost the dressing room, I don’t think so, for me it was a poor journalist using our French contingent as an excuse to write total rubbish, but like I said, I could be wrong.

  • 68 NUFC_LEAZES END // May 2, 2013 at 6:16 PM

I was thinking the same about harper, purely because of the amount of goals that have went in lately but, I cant blame Elliot for that and I think his reactions are better than harpers 🙂

yeah the 4-3-3 worked a treat last year, but pardew decide to copy clubs like man city (teams with decent defencesthat can rely on taking attacking pressure then countering#)

  • 69 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 6:17 PM

I think its the other way round mate he spends to much time overthinking what team he is going to put out .
Instead he should try just putting the best players in there best positions and get the basics right .
To many of our players look confused and uncomfortable with what he is asking them to do

  • 70 northernirishtoon // May 2, 2013 at 6:20 PM

If Anita doesn’t start against west ham then it is clear that pardew wants shot of him

What does he have to do to get a game. How bad do we have to be playing before he is brought in

The mans confidence in himself and his manager must be shot to bits

    I feel sorry for Anita.

  • 71 JackButler // May 2, 2013 at 6:21 PM

We’ll never know what exactly happens at the training ground or inside the dressing room, everything is pure speculation on our part and to be honest whether Pardew has lost the dressing room or not doesn’t change the fact that he’s not the right man for the job.

What happened against Liverpool wasn’t just a defeat it was a complete and total collapse. Both the players and manager looked lost an devoid of idea’s of how to change or even contain the opposition and that’s the most worrying thing for me.

This Telegraph story just add’s more fuel to the fire that we are falling apart at the most vital time of the season. I’m just praying that we can scrape enough points to stay up and perhaps put’s things right in the summer

  • 76 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 6:32 PM

Why not be brave and do a Wigan and go with a 3-5-2
    Taylor Mbiwa Colo
Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote Sissoko Marveaux
    Cisse Gouffran
We can’t defend so why not use attacking as our best form of defence, Benny and Marv as wingers with Cabaye, Tiote and Sissoko all playing deeper to try and dominate the midfield.
However Pardew’s probable team will be
    Mbiwa, Taylor, Colo, Jonas
    Tiote Cabaye
    Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Gouffran
    in the usual 4-2-3-1 formation

  • 77 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 6:39 PM

    @ Spoof

3-5-2 only works effectively if the wing backs defend and I can’t see Marv & HBA doing that effectively.

  • 78 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 6:39 PM

    I like saying effectively 🙂

  • 79 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 6:42 PM

he wont play a formation like that because if we won he would have to change his footballing philosophy and admit that he has been totaly wrong at every club he has been to.

  • 80 p // May 2, 2013 at 6:42 PM

aye, I think Jon-ass will get the nod for LB

  • 81 Douglas // May 2, 2013 at 6:47 PM

If Gutieiz plays insteed of Hyadara, we’ve lost. Gutierez has been responsible for at least 3 goals againt. We need a proper defender in each back four position. We need people (includung Sissoko and Goufran) to play in their rightful positions.
If we play a defensive team, we’ve lost. We are incapable with current moral of keeping a clean sheet and of coming back from behind.
I wonder if Cambell would be a good bet in the last 20 minutes. Young, fearless?
If we could get 3 points vs WH, what a fantastic relief it would be. Ah well, dream on…

  • 82 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 6:48 PM

If i spot jonas going to training tomorow im going to accidentaly crash into him.
Just a bit of wiplash like and his compo can pay for a flight back to argentina.

  • 83 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 6:48 PM

    My team would be:

But we all know he will play Gutierrez and Tiote so what’s the point 🙂

  • 84 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 6:48 PM

    @ douglas

Haidara has done his hamstring and won’t be available for the Hammers.

  • 85 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 6:49 PM

It appears as if others are jumping onto the bash Newcastle bandwagon.

isn’t it amazing how one man backs a comment and then so many just have to put their awe in, I really hope we come out fighting and earn a “hard fought” win against the Hammers, to shut these people up. It would make us safe and make them look stupid, I just hope Pardew is using these comments as part of his team team talk.

  • 86 Douglas // May 2, 2013 at 6:53 PM

    Big Pappa Cisse,
Hiadara out? Ah well, my thoughts move on to the QPR game.

  • 87 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 6:54 PM

And as pardew will be with him he will probably choke due to the possition of his head in gutis lap rendering him unable to sabotage our survival bid .
Then 3 points no pards or guti smiles and happines all round

  • 88 AndyMac // May 2, 2013 at 6:55 PM

Actually Wet Spam play 4-1-4-1 so if Pardwho adopted that formation at least he’d make it difficult for the Hammers to score 6:(

On paper we have a team to beat WHU but as everyone so often says, “Football isnt played on paper” even though Pardwho uses reams of the stuff during every game !

  • 89 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 6:55 PM

BPC, you are probably right, but we are incapable of conceeding less than our opponents, so we should try to score more, I think Marveaux is out anyway so perhaps Jonas, if the cenral mids can control the game then we might get away with benny in that role, we could also swap Gouffran and Benny around as Gouffran does drop back a bit more, but I would rather leave Benny on the right and just go for it.

  • 90 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 7:01 PM

is it not better people vent there frustration on here then give the team the support they need come match day .
With no oulet its a long time to stew on some shocking performances as long as it stays on here and isnt taken into the match .
Then again its up to the players to give us something positive to shout about

  • 91 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:02 PM

  • 92 mattnufc // May 2, 2013 at 7:04 PM

toonbrother, you are in the severe minority there, even with Caps Lock on.

  • 93 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:04 PM

The defense was fine versus a VERY strong westbrom side the week before last. The collapse had nothing to do with personnel and everything to do with tactics We would have conceded 6 versus liverpool if colocinni played rather than MYM.

  • 94 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:05 PM

@Mattnufc given the collective stupidity of majority of fans here I were my minority status as a badge of honor.

  • 95 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:06 PM

  • 96 Jail for Ashley // May 2, 2013 at 7:09 PM

The best bit of total sport tonight was Pards blaming the crowd for the Liverpool humiliation.

  • 97 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 7:10 PM

    @ brother

Collo will give us the much needed composure in defence. He is the best defender at the club

  • 98 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:11 PM

We love to reassure ourselves by saying if so and so had played the result would have been different. Thats how Saylor became a hero by virtue of his absence durting the first half of the season and Williamson a villain by the same token. Well guess what, Saylor and not Williamson played in the 6-0 massacre last week.

  • 99 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 7:12 PM

    @ Jail

I know m8 I heard it . The guy would blame his dog for our performances if he could. As for the fans being the problem, not many teams would get another full house despite being stuffed by their local rivals the last home game. The bloke is in denial

  • 100 p // May 2, 2013 at 7:14 PM

I can’t listen to total sport anymore, too painful

  • 101 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:14 PM

@ BPC, Colocinni ,composure? Sorry mate thats just absence making your heart grow fonder. Colocinni is just as prone to capitulation as the other members of the back 4. Destablising the back four to reintroduce him would be suicide imho.

Remember we conceded 7 seven versus Arsenal and 4 versus ManU. What difference did colocinni make in both those games? Like i said if the majority think this is a good idea Im happy to belong to the minority on this one

  • 102 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 7:14 PM

Dam i knew as a crowd member i should have marked sturige much better .
And not getting close enough to coutino was one of my major balls ups i must find pardew and say sorry for my lackluster performace .
    What a titt

  • 103 northernirishtoon // May 2, 2013 at 7:14 PM

It couldn’t be any worse. To not bring collocini in would be madness.

  • 104 northernirishtoon // May 2, 2013 at 7:16 PM

    What was the general jist

  • 105 Spoof // May 2, 2013 at 7:16 PM

TB, I’m in the minority with you, but with the defenders availble he will and should play, as poor as he is he is still better than Perch, Simpson or Williamson.

mot7, it is better to get frustrations out of your system, but its not the fans attitude which is annoying me, its the press attitude, the fans have every right to be annoyed, but the press have no right to instigate more problems, but thats what they do, lets hope the players can use the rubbish being mentioned as a tool to fire them into a positive response

  • 106 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

This is the line up i would play

  • 107 Big Pappa Cissé // May 2, 2013 at 7:17 PM

    @ brother

That doesn’t take away from the fact that he is the best defender at the club. Last season when we went on the unbeaten run Collo & Taylor were the CB pairing so why wouldn’t it work now. Yeah we got stuffed by Arsenal and Man U but they were both away from home. Getting hammered 6-0 at home is inexcusable and cant really get any worse.

  • 108 p // May 2, 2013 at 7:18 PM

I don’t know, I can’t listen to it. Not quite as bad with Sunderland losing. They should be 2 separate shows. Nowt worse than listening to toon fans ready to throw themselves of the tyne bridge followed by a smug mackem

  • 109 p // May 2, 2013 at 7:20 PM

yes, look Collo is the best defender at the club and let’s face it, he could not do any worse than the last game

  • 110 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:20 PM

@BPC we played westbrom the week before and looked very good defensively. Only thing that changed was Pardumb’s idiotic tinkering with the balance of the team

  • 111 mot7 // May 2, 2013 at 7:20 PM

sorry i thought you were refering to the fans .
As for the press there always seem to be a general hatred towards our club and fans .

  • 112 northernirishtoon // May 2, 2013 at 7:22 PM

‘Destablising the back four to reintroduce him would be suicide imho’.

Had to laugh at that lol

Worst home defeat to Sunderland in 100 years and worst home defeat to anyone in 75 years and your worried about destabilising the defence

    Your off your head

  • 113 toonbrother // May 2, 2013 at 7:25 PM

“it cant get worse than the last game”…I dont understand this sudden fixation on the last game. the world didnt begin last week saturday. It was traumatic for all of us but it wasnt the only game we’ve played this season and Liverpool certainly aren’t the best team we’ve faced this season. The problem wasn’t down to the choice of players but the choice of strategy. If i were pardew i’d apologize in private to the players, tell them to expunge liverpool from their memories and pick up where we left off vs WestBrom

  • 114 toonluvva // May 2, 2013 at 7:30 PM

Colo might be fit today but what about after tomorrows training session?
