It’s good news bad news from Alan Pardew at his press conference today – and the bad news is that Newcastle have sustained yet another injury in training – this time to Massadio Haidara – what goes on in the Newcastle training?
Fab Coloccini – in training this week – he’s back!
Massadio has sustained what seems a common a common injury at Newcastle – a hamstring strain – and he will now miss the vital game with West Ham at Upton Park on Saturday.
But the good news – very good news – is that captain Fabricio Coloccini will be back to captain the side.
Coloccini has trained for over a week now, and it seems his back injury is no longer bothering him, and maybe he can bring some much needed stability to the defense, which has looked hopeless since we were eliminated from the Europa League by Benfica.
Alan Pardew had this to say about his captain:
“Colo is fit and well”
That’s great news on Coloccini, and we’ll need him over the last three games of the season if we are to survive relegation.
We’ll bring you more of the press conference soon.
Comments very welcome.

Question to Pardew – ”What do you think you need from these 3 games coming up?”
AP: “I have no idea”.

Interesting thing is, have we actually won more games with willo in the team than Taylor? Maybe he’s much better than we think he is?
————————————
I don’t have the comparative figures for Willo v Taylor, but it is a fact that we’ve tended to concede fewer goals and keep more clean sheets when Willo has been playing.
He’s played in almost exactly half of the premier league games this season (18 out of 35) and these are the stats for each of those games (showing goals conceded in brackets)
a) the 18 games that Willo played in:
Everton A (2), Norwich H (0), Reading A (2), Man Utd H (3), Sunderland A (1), West Brom H (1), West Ham H (1), Swansea H (2), Soton A (2), Stoke A (2), Wigan H (0), Fulham A (2), Man City H (3), QPR H (0), Man Utd A (4), Everton H (2), Norwich A (0), Reading H (2)
Total goals against: 29
Goals against per game: 1.61
Clean sheets: 4
b) the 17 games that Willo DIDN’T play in:
Spurs H (1), Chelsea A (2), Villa H (1), Liverpool A (1), Arsenal A (7), Villa A (1), Chelsea H (2), Spurs A (2), Soton H (2), Swansea A (1), Stoke H (1), Wigan A (2), Man City A (4), Fulham H (0), Sunderland H (3), West Brom A (1), Liverpool H (6)
Total goals against: 37
Goals against per game: 2.18
Clean sheets: one
So the answer to your question is yes. Willo is much better than people on here think he is.

Comment #44If a journalist mention’s an unnamed contact or a reliable source you can be assured that the story is a total fabrication which should be ignored, Newcastle are in a right mess at the minute, the last thing we need is a bare faced liar of a journalist preventing us from concentrating on the job in hand, he has rightly been banned and should never be allowed back in, anyone who tries to be harmful to our club should never be allowed back in.
As for some players not liking the tactics, as with every club, Real, Barca, Man U, Bayern, the whole lot of them, you can be assured that there will be one or two players who are unhappy and will use poor tactics which don’t suit him as a reason for them not being in the side, what this vile man is done is to use a natural feeling for a non first teamer to try and make matters even worse than what they currently are, he should have his hands cut off so he can no longer write garbage in an attempt to try and damage us

I think if it was the middle of the season then M’bwia could play there as an experiment but this isn’t the time to put a player in a new position and hope he plays well.
We need someone who has experience of playing LB. I’d play Perch for his strong mentality and ability to communicate with Colo.
Don’t forget that M’bwia doesn’t even speak English yet.

the man claims to have proof through txt message conversations save on his phone. If the club want to push this issue we’ll find out who was telling the truth and who was telling porkies.
Was it right to publish the story? No it wasn’t in my biased opinion.
Where the club right in their handling of the matter? No, as yet again the have taken the approach of using a sledge hammer to crack an egg.

Mbiwa played full back in his first few games and looked decent, also he’s played that role for Montpellier.
I get your point about communication, but at the same time all players understand the language of football.
Perch hasn’t actually played a lot for us at full back, we signed him as a RB but he looked very poor and was quickly replaced. I think he’s actually a better defensive mid than full back.
In the end, I would rather have a strong left footed CD playing left back than a right footed CM with a poor history playing in that position.
But as far as the debate goes, lets just agree to disagree…

Comment #55JB, with such a reaction from the club, if there were any truth in it he would have defended himself and named the source, as he hasn’t done that we have to assume that it is indeed just rubbish, I could claim that I have two heads four arms no legs and a six foot tail, but until I prove that to be true you should treat the claim with contempt, which is what I feel we should be doing with the Luke Edwards claim.

the club has stated that they may take legal action against him/Telegraph lets see if they follow it up?
The press lie all the time so we automatically call them all liers, but lets face it the club have lied to us so many times how the hell are we expected to believe them? If you want to, then fine, but for me? no thanks, I simply don’t trust or believe Llambias and co and the performances on the pitch would say that there is something very, very wrong

Elliot
simmo taylor colo mbiwa

ben arfa cisse gouffran
and that’s a 4-3-3 not a shitty 4-2-3-1 that pardew plays with sissoko as an attacking midfielder. LW and RW, not pardews shit RM and LM

Comment #64@57 oh sweet the 4-3-3. Now that was exciting when we had Martins Viduka and Owen up front sharing the goals out!
The further up field Ben Arfa is, the better. We can’t risk him losing that ball again in midfield and conceding a goal because our defenders have zero pace

Comment #67JB, as for the performance on the pitch what it tells me is that we are not as good as we thought we were.
A 6 goal hammering does not mean that a manager has lost the dressing room, which is basically what Edwards is claiming, Di Canio has only been in charge for 4 games, has he already lost the dressing room, I don’t think so, for me it was a poor journalist using our French contingent as an excuse to write total rubbish, but like I said, I could be wrong.

I was thinking the same about harper, purely because of the amount of goals that have went in lately but, I cant blame Elliot for that and I think his reactions are better than harpers 🙂
@64
yeah the 4-3-3 worked a treat last year, but pardew decide to copy clubs like man city (teams with decent defencesthat can rely on taking attacking pressure then countering#)

I think its the other way round mate he spends to much time overthinking what team he is going to put out .
Instead he should try just putting the best players in there best positions and get the basics right .
To many of our players look confused and uncomfortable with what he is asking them to do

Comment #70If Anita doesn’t start against west ham then it is clear that pardew wants shot of him
What does he have to do to get a game. How bad do we have to be playing before he is brought in
The mans confidence in himself and his manager must be shot to bits
I feel sorry for Anita.

We’ll never know what exactly happens at the training ground or inside the dressing room, everything is pure speculation on our part and to be honest whether Pardew has lost the dressing room or not doesn’t change the fact that he’s not the right man for the job.
What happened against Liverpool wasn’t just a defeat it was a complete and total collapse. Both the players and manager looked lost an devoid of idea’s of how to change or even contain the opposition and that’s the most worrying thing for me.
This Telegraph story just add’s more fuel to the fire that we are falling apart at the most vital time of the season. I’m just praying that we can scrape enough points to stay up and perhaps put’s things right in the summer

Comment #76Why not be brave and do a Wigan and go with a 3-5-2
Elliot
Taylor Mbiwa Colo
Ben Arfa Cabaye Tiote Sissoko Marveaux
Cisse Gouffran
We can’t defend so why not use attacking as our best form of defence, Benny and Marv as wingers with Cabaye, Tiote and Sissoko all playing deeper to try and dominate the midfield.
However Pardew’s probable team will be
Elliott
Mbiwa, Taylor, Colo, Jonas
Tiote Cabaye
Ben Arfa, Sissoko, Gouffran
Cisse.
in the usual 4-2-3-1 formation
