Newcastle Win At QPR And We’re Safe – Pardew

7:43 pm, Saturday, May 4th, 2013 by Ed Harrison · 262 Comments

After the 0-0 draw today at Upton Park today when our lads played very well, Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says that a win at QPR next Sunday could secure our place in the Premier League for next season.

newcastle fans after game west ham

Newcastle players applaud their great fans after the game today

But we now wonder if 41 points will be enough this season, with teams like Wigan and Aston Villa starting to win games.

In truth our PL survival doesn’t look too good right now, after Wigan beat West Brom 3-2 today, and they could go above Newcastle after playing their game in  hand on Tuesday night at home to Swansea – if they can win.

Here’s what the Newcastle manager said after the game today:

“I think if we win at QPR it’ll be enough.” “It’s a huge game, and it’ll be a tough one, but we’ve got to go there and try to win.”

“Obviously they’ve already been relegated but it won’t stop their enthusiasm to try and beat us and finish strong.”

“A lot of other teams have been brought into the fold for relegation, Sunderland, Norwich and Southampton, they’ll all be a little bit nervous I should think.”

“But we can do is worry about ourselves, try to win at QPR and see where that leaves us for the Arsenal game.”

If we do win at QPR next week and other results go in our favor, there is a possibility we could be safe before the last game of the season against Arsenal – and that would be a huge relief for Newcastle fans everywhere.

The lads must go all out at QPR and try to get goals and the win, but QPR don’t give too many goals away – and today Arsenal won only 1-0 at QPR – with a goal in the first minute from Theo Walcott.

It’s going to be a big big game for our lads next Sunday afternoon.

So` it’s almost certain that were gona beat qpr while were playing for a point vs west ham?

Loic remy will score against us and they will beat us ….ITS ALL BECAUSE OF THAT FCUKING W***ER PARDREW THE ASS***E … :D

  • 2 LeToonARMY // May 4, 2013 at 7:48 PM

If Wigan lose on tuesday i think their season is finish they wont beat villa and i think we can draw at qpr at least

  • 3 Beattie25 // May 4, 2013 at 7:49 PM

We are the worst footballing team in the league and people think we will just turn up and beat QPR?

Today was us trying to win the game apparently.

  • 4 kevymartins // May 4, 2013 at 7:54 PM

Harry redknapp will be licking his lips at the chance to take us down. He has always disliked us as we dislike him…And all jokes/slabbering aside of harry but he sure as hell can manage a team better than pardrew and they will beat us

  • 5 BDin9 // May 4, 2013 at 7:54 PM

Levy QPR were abysmal. Arsenal were poor today as well. I don’t see Norwich getting another point.I only hope we can

  • 6 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 7:54 PM

    Beattie

I don’t think we will just turn up and win.

They are struggling to score as well so we have got a chance with just one or two goals (I know that’s a lot for us but you never know).

Fingers crossed we get 3 points, makes it easier

He just can’t shut the f..k up can he. he seriously need saving from himself.

    Manx

    Poyet for just one example

    @Transfer Sage
Fingers crossed and a bottle of Imodium time.
We have quality sat on the bench in Anita yet Gosling gets a run out really the man has lost it

  • 9 kevymartins // May 4, 2013 at 7:56 PM

I had been thinking all week long west ham was are get out ticket really really have a bad feeling about going to qpr needing a win or were down

  • 10 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 7:57 PM

    Daz

I found that odd too. Gosling shouldn’t play ahead of Anita. Hell even obertan should have a go after his hattrick before gosling

  • 11 Rotonda heights // May 4, 2013 at 7:58 PM

    dazoon

the ironic thing is Anita go 3 m.o.ms in a row and was then just dumped for Tiote.

  • 13 Le Belfast 007 // May 4, 2013 at 8:00 PM

I think we’re the most likely to get relegated. That wigan win today was one nail in the coffin. If they beat Swansea midweek, that will be another nail in the coffin. If we dont win next week, we’re as good as gone.

  • 14 Beattie25 // May 4, 2013 at 8:00 PM

Even if we do beat QPR we are not guaranteed to stay up.

We are relying on other teams regardless of our own results.

It was in our hands, now it isn’t.

We went for the draw today. We got it. We also lost control of our own destiny.

  • 15 Big Pappa Cissé // May 4, 2013 at 8:00 PM

Gosling isn’t fit to lace Anita’s boots yet gets in the team ahead of Vurnon. PARDEW IS A JOKE

  • 16 Sawbuck // May 4, 2013 at 8:01 PM

Goofy had a record of 1 in 2 before he came to us. Now gets cramp with 20 minutes to go.

  • 17 daztoon-anti christ is that the time // May 4, 2013 at 8:01 PM

How does a player go from getting mom game after game to be dropped from sight and seeing Tiote,Perch,Gosling,Guti even Sissoko go straight into the team in front of him.

  • 18 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:02 PM

Still in our hands, just need to win both and get a fee goals too. Unlikely I agree but possible

  • 19 Laurent Robert 32 // May 4, 2013 at 8:04 PM

Anita isn’t just a Dutch footballer, he is a former Ajax player playing over 100 games and Dutch International playing at all the youth levels. It is a crying shame he is not being utilised. Carr must be so frustrated at the waste which is being inflicted on the team by our berk of a manager.

  • 20 daztoon-anti christ is that the time // May 4, 2013 at 8:05 PM

Trouble is mate its not in our hands its in Pardew`s

So apparently we were@ war with west ham today – http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alan-pardew-tells-troops-go-3409402

I mean ffs pardew for once keep ur mouth shut. instead of talking the talk why don’t you walk the talk.

The guys fing disgrace who is trying hard to get us relegated with his schoolboy tactics. I mean why bring gosling on at all. That too when we had anita or even oberyan.

And ffs y do you even bother putting cambell on the sub at all ifu never intend to use him at all. #EPIC FAILURE

  • 22 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:05 PM

    Daz

I’ve never been hugely impressed with Anita so see why pardew goes for tiote (or at least I’d did at first, don’t get it after all these bad performances). But Anita goes about the game quietly and does well at the basics which is what we really need right now.

Would give plenty of options for the simple ball and aloe us to keep possession for the players like cabaye and Ben arfa to get forward and influence the game .

  • 23 Beattie25 // May 4, 2013 at 8:06 PM

    Sage

Even then it isn’t in our hands.

If Sunderland and Wigan win their games in hand and all teams match our results we are down.

  • 24 Ashton // May 4, 2013 at 8:06 PM

    It’s simple, we beat QPR.

  • 25 Ashton // May 4, 2013 at 8:06 PM

  • 26 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:08 PM

We are level points with Norwich so just need to better there goal difference.

same again today from Pardew “We played well first half but showed a different side to our game in the second and had to roll our sleeves up”.

  • 30 JackButler // May 4, 2013 at 8:09 PM

Think we sill need 4 points to be safe

  • 31 Big Pappa Cissé // May 4, 2013 at 8:09 PM

If we went down and I passed Pardew in the street it is safe to say harsh things will be said. Taking us down with this squad is a crime against football and I will never forgive him till the day I die.

  • 32 PompeyJohn // May 4, 2013 at 8:10 PM

As long as we beat QPR next week I think we will be ok. I have used this:
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/predictor/default.stm

and I think Norwich, Fulham and Stoke could well finish below us.

That is assuming we win at QPR of course, if not we have had it.

  • 33 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:11 PM

    Look

Worst case scenario we go down. We still get to watch football every week and tickets will be cheaper haha

    Strange substitutions
    Gosling and Ameobi
    - both waste of space
anyway You know whats going to happen next Sunday.

QPR have not scored for over 6 hours
bet they will score within the first 10 minutes.mibnd our goalscoring not much better 1 in the last 4 games

  • 38 beefman13 // May 4, 2013 at 8:15 PM

Just beat QPR and we are safe, i would not back us to beat blyth Spartans at the moment, and thats no disrespect to blyth.today again we had no width no crosses coming in, seen it all before and if we do get safe it will probably be a ben arfa dream goal, im praying we get by so the guys at the very top can sort out this god awful mess, and that means binning that manager who just has not got a second gear and has been found out.

  • 39 Sawbuck // May 4, 2013 at 8:15 PM

We need that movement and quick feet Anita offers.
I noticed today typical Colo got dragged out of defence by nolan, then ball watched while Nolan slipped back in.
I want to see Colo passing the player on to a midfield not coming out leaving space behind

  • 42 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:18 PM

I missed the first half so can’t comment on that but from the 2nd I think although we needed a goal, we dug out heals in and made sure we got the point at least.

Subs totally stopped the threat we had and I really question how they get a game.

  • 43 rossrich // May 4, 2013 at 8:20 PM

I think we should go all out for Temuri Ketsbia. With the players we have and his attacking philosophy we can rule the world….. THE WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!

Been saying all season we are to good to go down but with injures and this manager it could well happen. If he isn’t sacked at the end of the season mike Ashley can go Fcuk himself if he thinks Ian going to buy another ticket.

  • 46 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 8:24 PM

    Daz

    No no no, not Campbell.

He’s a class young striker but pardew plays him left mid when he gets on. Least shola can be up front so a small chance if a goal haha

  • 47 JackButler // May 4, 2013 at 8:24 PM

“I think if we win at QPR it’ll be enough.” “It’s a huge game, and it’ll be a tough one, but we’ve got to go there and try to win.”
    ———————————————————————-

Yet more evidence of Pardew’s shortsightedness. All our games are huge irrelevant of whether we are top of the table, mid-table or in our present predicament. The amount of opportunities that we’ve had to pull ourselves away from the bottom of the league and we’ve blown them all. It’s sickening that we are into the last two games of the season and still hoping for a miracle.

This incompetent fool must be sacked as soon as the last ball of the season is kicked irrespective of what league we are in

  • 48 wolfshead@toon // May 4, 2013 at 8:26 PM

i think we did well today given our away record against a team that mauled man u a couple of weeks ago theres 5 teams in it now wigan have to play again midweek sunderland must be low after being smashed and norwich are in free fall we got qpr next and they will be thinking more about their holidays chins up :-)

  • 51 southerngeordie // May 4, 2013 at 8:29 PM

So Pardew assumes that if we beat QPR, we’ll be safe. Hmm, is that the same logic that assumed we’d be safe after the Stoke win which was something like 8 games ago?!?!?!

For a man that prides himself on being methodical and diligent, this is an incredible stupid statement. In case it escaped Pardew there is a possibility that we could win both and still go down. Well a win at QPR will help our cause, to assume it makes us automatically safe, is just another example of why we are where we are.

I utterly detest the air this man breathes – his approach to this campaign has been arrogance personified. It was only last week he acknowledged that relegation is a possibility. I honestly, believe that he will take QPR completely for granted. They will be no pushover what-so-ever.

if we win both games we are guaranteed to stay up.
If wigan and sunderland both win the game in hand the table will look like this
    vil 40
    sunderland 40
    south 39
    wigan 38
    Norwich 38
    newcastle 38

although we are in the bottom 3 neither wigan or villa are 3 points aheads yet the play each other in the last game of the season.
so here are the final tables depending based on each of the out comes of that fixture and providing we all win the rest of our games
    wigan beat villa
    wigan 44
    Newcastle 44
    villa 43
    villa beat wigan
    villa 46
    Newcastle 44
    wigan 41
wigan and villa draw that game
    villa 44
    Newcastle 44
    wigan 42

In fairness I think that Anita would be good. Him with sissoko and cabaye would be nice. Can all tackle, can all pass, got the killer stuff from cabaye, goal threat off sissoko and cabaye and also a box to box player in sissoko.

Anita with being a fullback can also cover one of them if they get caught out in an attacking move.

Not a shocking decision not to play him, just my personal preference he should play.

I don’t think it mattered who we bought in Jan.

We were heading into a relegation battle under Pardew regardless.

I said many times along with many other posters that the best signing we could make in Jan would be a new manager.

No striker in the world would’ve saved us with the negative anti football tactics.

Ashley is to blame for keeping him in charge, Llambias is to blame for backing him, Pardew is to blame for choosing the tactics, the coaches are to blame for not challenging him, the players are to blame for not reacting to his foolish management sooner and a lot of fans are to blame for the slogan ‘In Pardew We Trust’.

He has been given an easy ride and we are all about to pay for our complacency.

We will blame Pardew but we must look at ourselves.

No way you can guarantee that, anything is possible at this stage of the season. Pressure will effect everyone.

Don’t worry, we still get to see Newcastle play football next year, even if its in the championship. Not great, will be crap, but we can see them play still. We are lucky out team is a top flight club, a lot never even get to experience that.

Luckily one of my local team, spennymoor, won the FA vase today. After another local side lost in the semi and last year another team got to the final last year.

Wigan will beat Swansea on Tuesday night & Villa on the last day, in my opinion.

It’s between us and Norwich. We could get a point next week and hope Norwich lose at home to West Brom.

I just cant see us winning at Qpr, for all the possession we have we don’t really look like scoring. It’s been like that for a good while now.

I wasn’t hugely impressed but I think he would be good, with sissoko and cabaye who also put in a tough tackle him being weaker isn’t critical.

I think just collecting the ball and keeping it simple is always good.

He was getting a lot better before he was dropped, toughened up a lot. One of the best DM in the prem was makelele, small but tough, I think Anita would have got there, not that good, just mean been tough enough like him.

  • 93 boater // May 4, 2013 at 8:55 PM

A point away at West Ham is decent on paper, but the second half today was the last chance this season we’ll have to play without incredibly high pressure. I don’t think this team can handle the pressure that’s coming, and Pardew ramping up the stakes ahead of QPR means nothing anymore sadly.

We have scored 2 goals in the past 5 league games, with 1 away win all season. QPR’s players will approach it as a combination of a training session and a shopwindow for a new club.

I understand Shola coming on, and not a 17 yr old with 30 minutes of league football under his belt, But it takes a team to score a goal, and we don’t have it in us regardless of personnel.

We are doing none of those things, west ham were poor today and handed us the initiative, we did fcuk all with that initiative instead we felt sorry for ourselves over the goal that could of been, its not good enough
3 points in front of wigan? So what we were 5 points infront before kick off and should of gone into that game hunting for nothing less than all 3 points, but once again we played like toothless cowards, no effort no fight no pride

“I think if we win at QPR it’ll be enough.”

These are a Very Big Words from a manager that could not commit earlier.

I hope its True. I will still give Pardew to improve and change the team.

Pardew should really play the best player instated of any biases.

In March 2006, Pardew had a dispute with Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger, after he criticised Arsenal for failing to field an English player in their UEFA Champions League win against Real Madrid.[42] Wenger suggested that Pardew was being xenophobic,[43] a claim Pardew denied, citing his marriage to a Swedish wife.[44]

    - AP have got a Problem that he needed to sort out.

I think Arsenal currently have some real English talent coming through.

French players can be our stepping stones to built up a structure as long as they are good enough and we can move forward from there.

Just look at how easy good talented english player love to play for Wenger.

And the sickening thing is, is that if we go down they can all simply walk away and leave us, the fans, with the mess that they have all helped to create

The QPR match is the one that the Toon have targeted as the MUST win. Trouble is I’m not sure that Pardew actually has a clue of how to achieve that win.

Once again I expect the players to be happier playing at Loftus Road away from the pressure cooker atmosphere of SJP.

Fingers etc crossed for a win against QPR, and just hope and pray that Swansea knock Wigan off their stride midweek.

Beattie, I agree with what you say about Ashley – of couse this man is the greatest chairman we ever had ( Billson ) ….however I dont fully blame him re Pardew. I’ve said {Pardew was a gobshite and a bluffer and had lost much of the squad since Brighton. However none of us thought we would collapse like this, and neither did Ashley. For example, after the initial french influence, I bet a friend of mine a pint that we would be closer to 10th than relegation. I guess I owe him a pint now, but I’ll be having many of them, to ease the pain. Pardew should have been able to get us through to the end of the season safely, but something happened internally that would cause us to collapse like shot dogs against Sunderland and Liverpool.

For as long as I can remember I have been repeating the mantra of sack Llambias & Pardew.

    Munster Mag
Ashley is a successful businessman who saw and took the advantage of purchasing a football club to promote his SportsDirect business.
He saved us from being put into administration IMO, and god knows where we would have ended up if that had happened.

His failings, strangely for an astute businessman, has been to appoint personal friends to high positions within the club and then being slow to dismiss them once it was obvious that they were not performing as they should have done.

Ashley will have the opportunity to put this right come the close season. If we get relegated he might do it out of anger as those responsible will have just cost him £60 and also the chance to have his beloved SportsDirect get free publicity whenever we are on a televised match.

If the reports in January are true and Ashley did take a proactive approach by getting presonally involved in the transfer dealings, it could indicate that his belief in Llambias is slipping. If Llambias goes, can Pardew’s job be any safer?

I’m still hopeful that Wigan will run out of steam before the end of the season and join Reading & QPR in the Championship.

  • 159 southerngeordie // May 4, 2013 at 9:48 PM

Steamroller QPR?? Not a prayer. I treckoned we would get one point off them but for some reason now have a feeling we will get 3….( must be Pardews influence!! ) ….but we wont score more than two goals….we are incapable of it. Pardew is a useless twat but hoodwinked many for too long. Guys like Ibiza have been swallowing his rubbsh all season and preaching love and tolerance. My epiphany was Brighton, but I have often thought he would do more since then. I do believe that a collapse in morale happened internally. I have never, ever in all my time watching football seen any team this close to the business end of the season with all still left to play for play like there is no danger of relegation.

What will be worse than going down is going down with such a whimper.

  • 169 Munster Mag // May 4, 2013 at 9:55 PM

Toonluvva, as I have said ad nauseum, Wigan wont run out of steam. Sorry mate, but they competed well in all recent games inclusing Man City and Spurs. Do u think we could have done that. I would FAR rather be in their boots than ours. Incidentally Lawro said on Irish radio that we would stay up and they would go down …at about 2.30 today ….and we all know what he knows about football predictions…..

  • 185 jimiley // May 4, 2013 at 10:07 PM

He got new players so had an 11 who could play football so I thought it was fair to give him a chance to see if he could turn the one good half in 10 games into a consistent good run.

Ashley did not save us from administration.

He didn’t ride in on a white horse and save the day.

He bought the club out and stopped the club from folding, but that doesn’t make him a savior. That makes him a businessman that bought a company.

Much like he has done in his clothing empire, he buys out struggling companies to then turn a profit.

This doesn’t make him a savior.

Your comment on lack of unrest and cohesion at the top are very true – so why are we a team that is actually worse than the sum of its parts? I can only come to one conclusion – the biggest hindrance to progress has to be Mr Pardew.

It may be pure chance and a fluke result that keeps us up, but whether we are in this league or not, The Manager has to go – he IS the weakest link.

Thing is Fulham are not safe they are on 40 points and they have not had a point for a while either

    imagine they went down ?!?

Cant believe people are on here having a full blown argument about Anita the boy is a top quality player who can link defense and attack and allow us to control the midfield

The reason he gets out muscled is because they press him knowing that no one else will make movement for him if he was playing for Swansea, Wigan, Man Utd or Arsenal size would not be a thing as they play football and we play rugby

Its not his fault he has struggled its Pardew’s shitty tactics and before the French had arrived him and Santon had set up our most amount of chances for the season

He is a Michael Carrick player in that what he does is not spectacular and only people who really appreciate possession based attacking football can see what he can bring to our team

Wait till next season if we stay up and get a decent manager he will play every game controlling the midfield

Now don’t get me wrong, experience is vital, but it isn’t necessary for every player to have 5 years of PL experience.

  • 247 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 10:41 PM

    Catchy

Hernandez is class…Madrid must be mad to be after him then?

Valencia creates a lot of their goals in midfield. Other lesser players like nani and young still offer a goal threat even if inconsistent.

Spurs do rely on bale but still have a lot of good players in their, did well last 2 years before bale came good as he is so are good players.

    Daz

We don’t have pace like other sides do, not top pace. Obertan does nothing when he plays either. Can’t pass, cross or control a ball. Still more worthy than gosling.

    @manxpie
Where were you after the Liverpool game spouting your love of Pardew nowhere to be seen and you haven’t called anybody out as your posts clearly state you know fcuk all about football

  • 251 catchy in norway // May 4, 2013 at 10:45 PM

    Transfer Sage

    my point is

spuds, ars even man c, dont have a much better squad then ours, in places yes, but over all its the managers who have them where they are right now

  • 252 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 10:46 PM

    Catchy

They are much better than us, especially man city.

And wood gate was top class just ruined by injuries, he was amazing for us. Best cb we had for over 15 years

  • 253 manxpie // May 4, 2013 at 10:47 PM

catchy that post just shows you talk shit i’ve called you out for weeks and weeks (you’ve never answered!!)
and for your information i’ve been on here fighting alot of posters especially the ones who just say pardew out without a replacement so try looking it up beforer you accuse me of summit !!!!!??

  • 254 Transfer Sage // May 4, 2013 at 10:48 PM

    I’m off anyway lads

Fingers crossed for stoke tomorrow and hope we do it. Hopefully we can all continue these arguments as a prem league team

  • 255 jimmysmith // May 4, 2013 at 10:48 PM

Beattie, thanks for giving me a heads up on what I am and aren’t capable of thinking of for myself.

Nice to know someone so all knowing is also so caring and prepared to make me aware of my limitations.

    It’s appreciated.

We got plenty mate Hba,Marv,Anita,Sissoko and goofy is no slouch

  • 257 Munster Mag // May 4, 2013 at 10:50 PM

Toon22, we have no form. Thats our problem, and amanger who doesnt motivate well. In fairness, we could have scored today but apparently our keeper was excellemnt – probably a MOM job…..Wigan have form and confidence …Sunderland had some form, and a manager who can lift things. I’m hoping its Norwich who screw up, much as I would laugh myself seseless in the Makems went down. We lack belief, team spirit, a manager , goals, the lot….

  • 258 Munster Mag // May 4, 2013 at 10:53 PM

Manx, I never asked for Pardew to be booted out now or two weeks ago. Without an ideal replacement that would be daft. I just cant credit has some fans support this guy who has no real reputation bar the one in his own head, given that he has a sufficiently talented pool of players to finish mid table at least. Put it this way, SAM ALLARDYCE would have kept us up….

  • 259 northernirishtoon // May 4, 2013 at 10:57 PM

    Catchy

You were calling people deluded earlier

You need to take a look in the mirror pal.

To think man c have a slightly better squad than ours is nothing short of delusional

I agree with a lot of what you say but no need to stretch it that far to get your point across

  • 260 manxpie // May 4, 2013 at 11:07 PM

munster but would he get us 5th!?
i give him credit for that where sum say the whole season was luck!
do you remember that that was a pretty much new team in the 2nd season back in the prem?
now i don’t know how much you look in to injuries or form but we’ve had shockers on both so tell me which manager would have dealt with this season better?
because if you are against pardew you must have a replacement that would do much much better than pardew??

  • 261 nufcusa // May 4, 2013 at 11:11 PM

I said it another post and ill say it again. Get a better result at qpr than Norwich achieve next week and we will be safe. City will beat Norwich on final day

  • 262 voodoo85 // May 5, 2013 at 12:41 AM

I honestly see it as being between us and Norwich now. I think Wigan can get a result against Swansea and Villa. Norwich have to play WBA at home and then Man City away. Norwich equal on pts with us at minute but with a +1 better goal difference. I think we will get at least a draw against QPR and Norwich may get a draw against WBA but fancy Man City could put a few past them on their last home match of the season and it will be us staying up on goal difference. I would much prefer a win at QPR and a loss for both Wigan and Norwich
