Newcastle United will play QPR on Sunday, and it seems like a win will give us safety in the Premier League this season.
Harry Redknapp – Newcastle swill be safe
It’s also a chance for Newcastle to get the double over QPR, after we beat them 1-0 at St. James’ Park earlier in the season.
This is what the former Tottenham and Portsmouth manager said about the game on Sunday:
“We don’t want to be rolling over for anybody, even though we’ve done that a few times recently.” “But I think Newcastle will be safe, even though they’ve been sucked into it.”
“They over achieved last year, and under achieved this year, and clearly injuries have affected them.” “I saw Wigan getting out of it until the other night. Now, it’s going to be tough for them.”
And news today that center-back Christopher Samba, who joined QPR from our Europa League opponents Anzhi in January, will miss the game with a knee injury.
Shaun Wright-Phillips with an ankle injury and Andrew Johnson with a knee injury will also miss the game.
We need a win to be safe – we hope we can get it.

Comment #41With so much at stake for us on Sunday and QPR with nothing to lose or gain, I wouldn t be surprised if Ashley hasn t incentivised Harry to let us win.
These things happen in business every day and NUFC is a business for Ashley.

actually easy to find haha
http://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/3389/Stages/6531/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2012-2013
go to the bottom table entitled “premier league positional statistics” then select the third tab shot zones.
It’s all there.

Yeah, it’s madness.
Cisse is a a pure unadulterated poacher. He also has the ability to shoot from places you wouldn’t even think.
His goals for us last year were absolute class, my own personal fav being Swansea were Cabaye played a gorgeous through ball and Cisse curled and lobbed it into the far top corner.
That’s what he does, finds space and finishes.
Playing him at RW and as a target man has taken away his ability to sniff a chance and made him think to much when he gets one.
The pressure has gotten to him and his confidence is on the floor.
The problem with Cisse is sometimes he does miss a few chances but give him the creativity and he will make 5-6 chances a game not the 1-2 he currently does.

Comment #44Next season a 4-3-3 with a front free of Ben Arfa-Cisse-M.Suarez would tear up the PL. Add to that Sissoko-Anita-Cabaye just behind and we are laughing.

That link i posted to the table of where we shoot not only shows we are lowest % in 6yard box but also 3rd highest % outside the box.
To me that shows when we don’t score too many despite games where we end up having 15+ shots as they are rarely from threatening positions.

Comment #47Pardew has said that following the boring 0-0 away draw against West Ham that ‘the city has come back together again’.
Is he fcuking mad?
Plus he is still moaning about the press criticism following the Sunderland and Liverpool results.

We take so many shots outside of the box because we have nobody pressing any higher than the 18 yard line.
There is no intent is there?! It’s embarrassing.
Especially when you see a team like Wigan/Norwich/Reading getting bodies in the box.
At any given attack I bet we have Cisse in the box and nobody else supporting.

I dread to think what the stats would be if it included keeper clearances as well.

I think it includes free kicks from the keeper in their own half and punted up field which then would include 2 or 3 of Ba’s?!

yeh it’s a good read…think your right on why we shoot so far, we dont get enough forward so when cisse has the ball it’s either shoot or pass back 20/30 yards.
the long ball is bad, but the short pass we are 14th, which is low but does show we try to pass it around, just with no movement and people not getting forward we end up resorting to the long ball.
catchy in norway

Of those short passes how many do you think are us trying to play the ball away after prolonged periods of opponent pressure?
I often see Santon and Colo knocking it about and then when it goes to midfield or the opposite side and there is no movement it just gets pinged up front. We then lose the ball and invite yet more pressure.
It this was an error that was noted and fixed over a few games then I’d think higher of the manager, but sadly it is his hallmark.

Comment #64The more I think about it I really think Kevin Gameiro would be an great partner for Cisse. Very realistic too and wouldn’t cost alot as he’s desperate to get out of PSG.

Beattie: Agree completely. Football is a simple game to coach. Given a roster and a formation, what can each player do on the defense, what can each player do on the offense? What type of goal scoring threat is each player in a line up? That’s the question Pardew needs to ask. Right now, it’s really just a lone poacher. Everyone else is setup to be a supporting cast, mostly because only defensive considerations are being given to their formation.
4-3-3.. We need a poacher (Cisse, check), we need a creative dangler (HBA, Marv, check).. what we also need then is someone with a rocket. Really, rockets should come equipped standard across our middle 3, but I think we really need a left forward who who is deadly from far out.. both shots and crosses.
Our midfielders also need to be creating chances from far out. And probably more importantly, our fullbacks need to be screaming up the sides and putting up more crosses than a Roman legion.
You can only play lone striker if you’ve got a great overall striker who can do it all. Otherwise, we need a diversified attack.
