Once Newcastle are safe in the Premier League – and that could come as early as Sunday afternoon, if Newcastle win at QPR and Aston Villa lose at home to Chelsea tomorrow – Alan Pardew will be speaking to the Newcastle owner Mike Ashley about the season, and how to take Newcastle forward – and whether he is still Mike’s choice to take Newcastle forward.
Alan Pardew – will speak to Ashley once we’re safe
And speaking to the BBC today, Alan was asked if he wants to speak to Mike Ashley directly, and this is how Alan answered that question:
“As soon as I know we’re in this division, that’s what I want to do with Mike,” “He can tell me where he’s coming from and we can clear the air about how we want to take it forward.”
“He could turn around and say, ‘sorry Pards, see you later and thanks very much. He could do that if we don’t make it, he could do that if we make it.” “Unfortunately for me I have to accept that decision.”
We know there are strong emotions on both sides of this issue – whether we should keep Alan or whether he should be sent packing.
But we’ve been reticent to put out much on the topic when we are still fighting for our lives in the Premier League, and we certainly don’t want to upset the Newcastle band-wagon.
But as soon as we know – hopefully that we’re in the Premier league next season – we’ll have a poll and that kind of stuff, and say one or two things about what we think will happen with the Newcastle manager and why.
But until we are safe in the Premier League, it’s not the time to talk about the manager’s future.
Let’s support the lads and hopefully we can even have a decent couple of results over the last two games.

Do you actually hear yourself? If we were top of the league, playing the sort of football Man U were playing, and winning with the regularity Fergie has done over his career then Pardew could play Cabaye in goals and have Sissoko minding the corner flag for all I’d flaming care.
The very fact that you are comparing Fergie to Pardew begs belief. Truly staggering.

.My argument right now is it is happening and football has changed . Whether you suck it in or not.. Players do hold sway now .
I do agree with you on the Sir Bobby Robson Sacking though ..that had nothing to do with me .
Bobby had lost the players though ..Shearer set the ball rolling ..
Things have changed Ruddy its the de rigueur for players to have more say..you can have a pop at me but I’m sticking to my derringer on this one. Go Shave.

There is also the small issue of McManaman and Haidara actually having to play with each other, signing him, or even attempting to sign him without priorly consulting how he’d feel about it would be showing him massive disrespect.
Then there is the issue of how the fans would take to him, because I for one think he is a scumbag.

Comment #84Ruddy the point which should be taken is that they were arrogant before they proved their worth, obviously being arrogant will not mean that you will succeed, but it should never be used as a point when you are giving reasons to dismiss someone.
Of course there is no gaurantee that former players will come, but they usually do.

Where once did I have a pop at you other than responding to the insults you were/still are throwing my way.
You’ve no idea what sway players hold in the dressing room, you’re pointing to Chelsea as a shining example of how player power works without factoring in the fact that they have a multi-billionaire owner who has spent more than 1 billion pounds in a decade and has 3 PLs, 3 FA Cups and 1 CL to show for it. Not exactly value for money is it?
If ever you want to have a grown up debate I will be here, otherwise take your childish insults and p**s off.

Alan is trying to fake it ’til he makes it, he’s fairly good at creating the illusion of aptitude – he must be, he has people like you defending him – his arrogance being one of his most important tools, thankfully, I’m starting believe the only thing he will be made is redundant.

Comment #90Just replying to a comment at the start of this thread, but Rene Girard speaks really good english! He’s had an ambition to work in england for a while! He’d be an ideal candidate for me! Also he can handle Belhanda on a daily basis which says alot for his man management, means he might do ok with HBA! Hes renound for developing young players, most of the montpellier team that won the title were from the youth team and he plucked giroud from obscurity! Also, if he can work with the montpellier owner then mike and derek will be a piece of cake, their owner is an absolute tool! Imagine llambias crossed with a tony fernandes’ need to be in the public eye!

I just don’t see the merit of your argument, you’re lauding his arrogance. Pardew has shown no evidence that his arrogance is warranted in any degree.
If Pardew was then to erupt into a world class manager overnight would you point to his arrogance as a vital ingredient in that? I’d have thought that tactical knowledge, man management, ability to cope under pressure and getting the best out of your players were more important factors in getting to that point.
Also, Pardew is in his mid 50s, not exactly a young sportsman, if arrogance was as vital an ingredient in becoming a top sportsman then Pardew would have got there years ago…alas he has not.

Comment #95tbf spoof, thats tactically switched not habitually switched. And there’s the deeper issue of taking a player who has a game style and asking him to dilute some of that by being a cover for a different position. Getting Jonas to mind the netire wing and a section of defensive mid has blighted his game. HBA never will be a track-back winger, Sissoko is to far up to be his usual player taking the ball from deep and making splitting runs box to box. Cabaye plays so far back he no longer knows the correct pace to hit the ball! He doesn’t like to play AM’s at all and wants his box poachers to sit back too far to get any penetration through the defence quickly enough, forcing them to forage for chances and keep getting caught offside. And a load of other stuff. I will remember it all in a minute.

McCarthy, Townsend and maybe Guidetti. I don’t see City or Spurs releasing cheap so, if Wigan goes down then we might be able to snap McCarthy. I prefer going for Will Hughes in Derby.

See there lies the difference between yourself and I, you assume that because I disagree with people I am attacking them, which is neither an understandable nor forgiveable mistake, but given that you have no sense of boundaries or whether it is in fact you who is attacking people I can see how you’d make that mistake.

Comment #98Id settle for pardew just swapping sissoko and cabaye around to be honest! Sissoko is much better further back, cabaye has the ability to play a riquelme role successfully! Away from home id play gouffran upfront ahead of cisse! Hes quicker and more intelligent! Played his best stuff up top on his own for bordeaux, they won a title that way

Comment #99Ruddy, you need to calm down and have a look at yourself, you are giving reasons to dismiss Pardew, and I am trying to balance the debate, arrogance should not used as an excuse, you then say playing players out of position, Fergie does that, I have never compared Pardew to Fergie, what I did was to show your reason to be wrong by using one of the greatest managers of all time as an example of how the best do that, your response is to turn an example into a comparison, and no I am not suggesting that we should always play players out of position, and yes I do feel that Sissoko should be playing deeper, as for Cabaye being further forward, not to sure about, not for or against, but last season he was superb whilst playing deeper. apart from those two who else is playing in an alien role to them.

Cisse playing on the wing, Sissoko playing as No 10, Marveaux playing on the wing, Jonas being on the pitch, Anita being on the bench, all of which are roles alien to these players.
Also, what I said was Pardew could be forgiven for playing players out of position if it got us success, but look at the table Spoof, does that look like success to you?

in fairness I have already said the same about Sissoko, Marveaux has not played that many games due to injury, but when he has most have been as a central midfielder, but when in France he was regularly used as a winger, so really thats not a fair critism.

Comment #113Spoof made good point comparing with Fergie.
The question isn’t whether or not players are playing out of their normal position but rather why it is working for Fergie and not Pardew.
Wrong instructions? One-dimensional player? Too many at once?

It’s the very fact that Pardew sees him as a No. 10 when he is clearly a box to box, I know he’s played down the wing, I wasn’t referring to that.
The crux of the issue is that Pardew is not the man to take us forward and I find your defence of him to be feeble at best.

Comment #120Been pretty swamped with work lately but still following the blog and comments regularly.
I’ve stated discontents with pardew and his tactics since last season. Our finish last year was enough to get nearly all fans- not to mention the board- on his side regardless of the dross we were being served up.
It’s nice to see the majority of fans well and truly over it now, not for the sake of me being proven right but because this really is the best crop of players we’ve had in ages. My only fears are that this season might have done enough to break that up and that MA will not dismiss him.
