Two Newcastle Players Out For Season – Two Others Return

Shola Ameobi came on as a substitute last week at West Ham for the first time for a while, and with his first kick of the game, the 31 year-old seemed to injure his knee, and the news today is that he’s out for the rest of the season.

shola ameobi at metalist

Shola Ameobi – out for the season

This is even more proof that Newcastle cannot expect more than half a season out of their local striker, because of all the injuries he picks up over the length of a season.

And it also seems that French International Moussa Sissoko has played his last game of the season for Newcastle, as he too is ruled out for the season with the knee injury he picked up last week in training.

Since these two players have been known to score some goals, it leaves our goal-scoring capabilities even thinner than they were last weekend – and we wonder who’s going to score the goals in the last two games of the season.

Newcastle have scored only 3 goals in the last 7 games, while managing to concede a massive 16.

The good news is that both Davide Santon (hamstring) and Sylvain Marveaux (groin) could be ready to play in both our last two games, and we need four points to save us from the drop, assuming Wigan can win both their two remaining games.

And we wonder how Massadio Haidara’s hamstring is doing – and whether he will be able to play in either of the last two games of what has been a disastrous Premier League season for Newcastle.

If Pardew is sacked I think Shola will be oot.

    Another reason to fire him.

Not whilst Jonas does his defensive duties and wins free kicks on the halfway line.

Good news marvs back, just a shame we wont see him starting. Pardew will have an aneurism if he has more than 3 creative players on the pitch at once.

Whats the point in keeping a striker, Not good enough the premiership, Injured at least 2/3 times a season, Has a terrible work rate on the pitch. Yes i know hes local, but enough with the emotional attachment he is not good enough for this club. Scoring the odd goal doesnt mean he is good. If you stuck any old sunday league player up front, after a few hundred matches they will score the odd goal too.

Surely 433 with a triangle in the centre of the pitch consisting of Cabaye and Anita side by side with Marv advanced. Gouffran/Cisse/Ben Arfa upfront… If a team has ever picked itself!

The curios case of Jonas Gutierrez.

It is so sad what has happened to him. From fan favourite to the great divider.

People love his determination, his never say die attitude and his continued desire to never give up.

Now take all those attributes and put them into an attacking player and you have a gem. Take all those attributes from an attacking player and turn him into a defender and you ruin that player.

Pardew has ruined him for me. His plus points are now a negative has he stifles the teams progression up the pitch and offers little attacking intent.

When he played for Majorca he had all those abilities and transferred them into his attacking play. He would run and run forwards wearing out the opponents. He would dribble, twist and turn and win free kicks high into the opponents half and create space for his team mates.

Now to all those that say he babysits Santon, you show your lack of knowledge. A LW should never babysit the LB. His job is to offer support and help attack.

It is the CB & DM who babysit the LB and covers them.

I will always look back on Jonas with positive eyes but he needs to be shipped out. Pardew has broken the stallion and turned him into a work horse rather than a race horse.

    Boom, analogy of the day.

LYF…Fitness, injuries and form aside, my call for best team would be:

    —————–Krul—————–
    Debuchy–Colo–MBiwa–Santon
    —————-Tiote——————
    ——–Cabaye—-Sissoko———-
    —–Benny————-Marv——–
    —————-Cisse——————

I could be convinced to swap Santon with Haidara and maybe put Sissoko in Tiotes place and put Anita in for Tiote.

Oh how I’d love to see that.

The very sad fact is that with a different manager in charge we would see a team like that every week. But as long as we have a toothless, gutless Pardew at the helm we will never see such an adventurous formation

Rotonda…I don’t see it happening either. I should of perhaps said:

“Fitness, injuries, form and manager aside”

I do actually believe that if we had been doing better and confidence had grown we may have seen something similar to this by now. It’s not that Pardew can’t or wont, but he wont unless he is completely happy with how things are going – which at Newcastle is rare.

It was when we had injuries that we resorted to the 4-3-3.

No, I would not rather have nationality over quality. It was merely an observation. To some extent it is reflective of the condition British football is in today. If price tags for homegrown talent was extortionate certainly we would have recruited more of it in the Ashley regime.
I don’t have a problem with the lack of Englishmen, although a certain number of a submitted squad list must be homegrown.

It’s a sad fact that we simply do not have any British players good enough at this point in time.

It’s a sad reflection on the price of British players in the modern market also that our own youngsters are no where near good enough to make that step up yet

Beattie…. I think with jonas its a case of him passing his peak. This season he doesn’t even seem to have the defensive work rate he had last year, or at least he isnt as effective. He’s had nothing along the lines of his performance against stoke away last season.

His attacking is where its really gone done hill. Last season he lacked end product but got into good positions and won free kicks. Now he barley seems to pass the halfway line. Whether thats a lack of confidence legs or orders is debatable but its like you say detrimental to our attacks.

I wouldn’t get rid of him though. He would be a decent option to come off the bench if we were under the cosh and couldn’t get a foothold when defending a lead. But ultimately he simply cant be a starter next season

I know you wouldn’t have nationality over quality. I wasn’t saying it in a sarcastic way, I think my reputation precedes me there, sorry for the confusion.

    I agree though.

I also think that young kids leave too soon. They are snapped up and left to waste in the reserves of top clubs and never make the grade when they should be learning their trade and playing games.

There should be a rule that a player cannot leave a team before at least one full season in the first team so this stops big teams snapping up 14 year olds and wasting them.

you could have 0 homegrown players if you wanted

the rule is you can have no more than 17 of your 25 squad as foreign players….so in theory we could have 0 homegrown but means our squad would just be 17 haha

You’re entitled to that opinion and fair enough.

I do disagree and think Ben Arfa was not brought into the team because of what he lacked defensively. In trying to make Ben Arfa a better defender you run the risk of ruining his attacking ability (Jonas). His job isn’t to defend and we have seen when giving the chance to attack he simply devastates the opposition.

You run the risk of lacking defensively but conceding goals doesn’t guarantee that you will lose you points, not scoring does.

Hughton brought him in straight away and he tore Everton to pieces.

At this point in time Chelsea have 22 players out on loan with a combined market value of £90 million, proof that the ‘Big’ clubs are buying players for the sake of simply stopping them going to their rivals without the intention of using them for some time

the annoying thing is pardew thinks tracking back is key to attackers defending.

if he watched the top sides what he would see is that tracking back is a small part but the main part of defending for a forward is closing down the other teams defense in their own half to create mistakes.

Beattie…There is a line and it is extremely thin. I like trying to make a player more complete, but you can’t overdo it or you will, as you say, you run the risk of ruining their other abilities.

I don’t think that is so much the case with Benny tbh. Injuries and fitness have taken the sting out of him for now imo.

Ideally I’d like someone else to play that RW position and play Benny as a No.10 type, but who?

At the very least, if a players loses a ball, I want them to try and win it back, which Benny does now.

    Yep.

Especially with Ben Arfa nipping at your heels, defenders would panic.

Also if we counter, it is better to have Benny on the half way line that it is at RB.

I was unaware of that! Though when you look at the sub-standard stock of english players that we have in our ranks, maybe that basic 17 foreign man squad wouldnt be such a bad thing….

Thanks a lot mate, its always appreciated. 7 wings against him and never an away win in his time is woeful though… even for us!
