After what was a dramatic game at Villa Park this afternoon, Chelsea came back from one goal down and 10 men, after Ramires was sent off in the first half, to win the game 2-1 in dramatic style.
Bentake scores after just 14 minutes to put Villa 1-0 up
And is was that guy who is supposed to be passed it – Frank Lampard (yeah right) – who scored both Chelsea’s second half goals, and the winner came with just two minutes to go after Bentake had been sent off after 57 minutes for a second yellow card for a high tackle on Terry.
Frank Lampard now has scored 203 goals for Chelsea – a club record.
And Aston Villa’s top goalscorer Bentake will now miss Villa’s last game at home to Wigan a week tomorrow – good news for Wigan.
Ramirez was sent off just before half time for picking up his second yellow card for a foul on Agbonlahor, and it’s really hard to make this stuff up, after Villa looked in a great position to secure their season leading 1-0 up at the half, and against 10 men.
The defeat means Aston Villa are still two points ahead of Newcastle and a win tomorrow at QPR will take us above the Villains – and the win for Chelsea has secured their Champions League qualification for next season.
The results are going Newcastle’s way and as we reported on Thursday there are two steps to heaven (aka The Premier League) for Newcastle – now there’s only one step.
A win at QPR tomorrow and we are safe.

Alan pardew was named the 2nd best manager last season and you all want the messiah out???? Very unfair if you consider the injury and lack of summer signings forcing him to use ugly tactics. Smh

Comment #164I didn’t want pardew to be sack. Unless convincingly prove that it is fully his fault.
To me, the late investment from the Owner was too much to take for pardew and his team whom are work in progress. I personally can’t accept that.
When the required mens did not arrive and the football matches still have to continue playing and compete at top level. Its not an easy job.
I give Pardew a timeline: Starting 2nd half of next season. Thats when new players have at least got a season in Newcastle kit. Thats when improvement either 1 of two main things need to happen.
1. Win games, be it ugly or whatever or (sad to be said, this method will not last, players will only be motivated so much after your screaming, it is proper football that they enjoy playing that will last)
2. Play proper football and watch our team creating chances after chances. Even to the extent of losing games (But no worries good attacking football will win games, when chances is created, its just a matter of time)

Comment #165I dont think Martinez is anything special either but is he better than Pardew IMO yes. Not to mention Wigan have the 4th lowest wage bill in the league. And as for relegation survival, how many times has he had a team relegated from the PL ? .
He wouldn’t be my ideal choice as I would go for Benitez but we know Ashley runs a tight ship wages and transfer funds wise, so I think he is a more realistic target.

So ud be happy fighting relegation every season as long as we don’t actually go down? As for wage bill fair enough it’s tough but he should surely of had at least one season of over achieving if he was a good manager? He’s always in the trap door imo he get out of players what they offer he never gets more than that
Plus Whelan wouldn’t agree a fee for him with Ashley imo

Comment #171Let`s hope for a 120 minute run out for Wigan. And maybe demoralizing defeat in the end.
We should sign McManaman for next season.

Comment #172This is a proper football manager.
Mourinho also responded to Pepe, who had accused his coach of showing a lack of respect to Casillas, the captain, last Friday, describing his words as “inappropriate” and for the first time gave a footballing explanation was to why he plays Diego López ahead of Casillas.
The Portuguese called the defender “frustrated” and noted sharply: “Pepe’s problem is easy to analyse: it’s called Varane. It’s hard to be a 31 year old and be steamrollered by a 19-year-old kid [Raphaël Varane] but that’s the law of life. There must be very few people who don’t think the future is [Sergio] Ramos and Varane.
“I have to have the legitimacy to decide: I am a football manager. I prefer López to Casillas. I like a goalkeeper who is good with his feet, who comes for crosses, who dominates his area. You all question me and I accept that but you have to accept that I am the coach, it is simple.”

No one said he gets teams relegated but he’s been in a relegation battle since he took over at wigan
How have he evolved them in that time? He hasn’t at all, alot of people complain that under pardew we won’t go anywhere, well wigan haven’t gone anywhere under martinez

Ben arfa and other players you mentioned are entertainers. I can barely blame pardew for his abysmal (poor) tactics due to lack of real creative players at his disposal.
I also feel ben arfa should be sold asap to garner(get) some transfer money for a more readily fit winger.

Youre way off the mark. Just because he is facing relegation with Wigan doesn’t mean he would do the same with a better Premier League Club let alone the talent we have. All I am saying is I think he could do better with our squad than Pardew. Why is that so hard to comprehend ?.

So when was the last time Whelan dropped 20 million in a transfer window buying the likes of M’Biwa & Sissoko then ? . Not to mention we already had HBA,Cabaye,Cisse and more. Some of you are acting like Wigan buy great players or can attract them for that matter when one of their best ever transfers has been Kone.

U asked what could Martinez do with our squad and going off his CV I gave u an answer personally I think Pards could do better with his squad than he has done this season.
And it’s not hard to comprehend I just offered u a different opinion, what’s wrong with that?

Comment #187I hope my beloved Newcastle don’t get relegated. They might never recover from this fall again.
Even if, that will take another 4 four years to regroup. Not many fans can say they have that many four years to wait. …guttered.
The easily way out is to get a richer owner. ..dreaming.

What does transfer fee’s matter? There are plenty of squads in the league who dont spend massivley and do better than wigan
As i said how have wigan progressed at all under martinez? They haven’t they have stalled and are stuck in a repetative rut

McManaman would be a good buy.
He made one horror tackle and it happened to be against NUFC. But I don`t see him as a dirty player in general. He has plenty to offer.

Why did he not come out with his cash earlier to further improve the team? Why?
