Here’s A “Things To Do” List For The Summer – If We Survive

Chief sports writer of the Newcastle United Blog – Ed Harrison – looks at the summer, and what Newcastle need to do if we survive in the Premier League – Ed is the Chief Sports writer because he’s also the only writer on the blog. 😀

mike ashley with Llambias_1373228c

These are things Ashley and Llambias must do this summer

Newcastle could be safe even if we lose our last two games of the season, and we’re safe if Wigan cannot win one of their two away games at Arsenal and Aston Villa.

We don’t want to think about things too much – but here briefly, are a number of things the club must do if we are safe:

Those are some of the things Newcastle must do this summer if we are to be in a better position come next August, than we were last August.

  • Issue apology to the Newcastle fans but taking them though hell and high water, and having such a disastrous Premier League season
  • Complete a through review of the season to pinpoint exactly what went wrong, and then fix those things that need fixing – and they will include some of the items on this list
  • Decide who will be the long term manager and coaches at Newcastle – if it’s not Alan Pardew we need to recruit a new manager quickly
  • Decide on Fabricio Coloccini future – surely we need to make every effort to keep him – if he leaves we need to bring in a top center-back
  • Unload fringe players at the club including Steve Harper, Danny Simpson, Romain Amalfitano, Dan Gosling, Gabby Obertan and Mike Williamson
  • Create a sizable transfer fund to give the manager some decent money to recruit other top players this summer to really strengthen the squad
  • Review transfer policy – do we have too many foreign players and do we need to recruit more British players?
  • Recruit two top strikers (not one we need a couple), given the results of the transfer policy review above – Andy Carroll may become a higher priority now
  • Recruit a number of top youngsters and unload those younger players – like Brad Inman among others – who will not make it at Newcastle
  • Bring in a top coach who has a PhD in set-plays – we need to fix why we haven’t scored from a corner for eons and eons
  • Place ridiculously high transfer fees on some of our top players like Yohan Cabaye and Ben Arfa, so we either keep our top players in the summer or get silly money for them

Have I missed anything?

if i was MA i would give Rafa 50 million to spend and also ask Carr to hand a shortlist of quality players on the cheap or out of contract and let Rafa look at some videos of these players to see if he could make something out of them

The more I think of it the more I think it wise to keep Pardew for nexr season. This season has been a learning curve for the heirachy. His position can be reviewed end of next season, and this gives Ashley time to select any replacement.
I’d keep Simpson and Collo, buy Carroll and Remy, sell Santon, Romain Amalfitano, Dan Gosling, Gabby Obertan and Mike Williamson plus a few others and give Pardew another 25 million for other strengthening.
I’d sell Cabaye. We’ll get only one more good season max. before the world cup, then he comes back tired and we get another poor season. Toyote (?) can go at the right price. We need to learn how to use Anita or sell him.
    Enough ramblings.

Douglas, Pardew doesn’t know how to use a Dutch International like Anita, because he cannot get the team to pass and move. He’s not at that level of managing. He’s never done this in his managerial career, so nothing will change.

Carr is putting quality on a plate and Pardew is misusing the players every week. It’s a hideous sight.

He’s had 2 and a half years to learn, yet even after the Sunderland game he still starts the Liverpool game with 4 DM, Jonas who has zero assists and Cisse chasing shadows up front.

He’s not learning game by game.

    1) Derek Llambias Resign with immediate effect.
    2) Alan Pardew resign.
    3) Admittal of failure from Mike Ashley that he is not fit to run NUFC
    4) Opening up of accounts/debts.
    5) Put club on the open market for sale – with proviso that fans have a democratically elected and protected representation at board level with a commitment to setting up of a trust which protects interests of fans/business/city of Newcastle

You have a point. Pardew could well and truly learn from his over defensive mistakes and play attacking football next year, which we all know he can do.

However to say that he actually will is ridiculous. Look at every other team he’s played for, over defensive tactics… I highly doubt he’ll change his way now. I’d like it if he did, but lets be serious.

Keep Tioté, I don’t understand this crap about how Perch is so much better. Tioté puts in a dangerous tactic “SACK HIM HE’S TERRIBLE” Perch puts in the exact same tackle “WE LOVE PERCHINIO”, Tiote quite a lot of the time makes mistakes because he always wants the ball whereas Perch disappears through games so it makes it seem like he’s better.

Selling Cabaye could work depending on how much we get for him. Sure he’s a quality player but can be replaced.

I agree with sell Anita or use him.

Williamson is good back up and is happy to be that, keep him. As for the rest you named either loan them out or get rid.

Finally, you say give Pardew £25 million, that would be awful. He’s already said he needs more English players, which means we’d be treated to the amazing Tomkins or Jay Spearing. Sure, get someone like Ince. But it’s not the type of player Pardew wants now.

return the price of a season ticket
As Ashley owns SD he should be well aware of trading standards “fit for purpose” act. that money should be returned under this act . when goods that have been paid for are not fit for purpose or damaged a full refund should be made available

Everyone suggesting we offload all these English fringe players and replace them with cheap foreigners – really?

We do actually need some homegrown players in the squad, and seeing as everyone seems to think our youngsters are a load of rubbish it’s really not going to work. There’s a limit as to how many foreign players we can actually register.

The first and most Important thing to do is just to Stay up!

    Douglas @ 18:
That is a very brave and very Risky Post? The wrath of the most of the lads on here wil rain down on you in the next half-hour?

I still believe we will be staying up but it will be touch and go for sure!
If Pardew stays? it will be up to Fat Ash and Llambs Arse, where the main thing that they have to look at for me is how the Barclays Manager of the Year from last Season can take a group of talented players? They are talented!

And then have them playing so Negatively that we, the Fans, have to endure a major Relegation battle which we don,t deserve ! None of us do!

You could look for excuses, Injuries,Bad Decisions, but some of the tactics from Pardew,s side are also to blame.

I think i saw this coming back when Kevin Nolan smashed the ball in the net when the Hammers played us?
We have played the most of the games this year, making the 1-0 and then sitting back and not pushing for the 2-0 sitting back and settling for a 1-0 win !

Last year, we were winning games by a margin of at least three or four goals, something which has been lacking this year?
Our biggest mistake was not replacing BA in January! We put all our balls in one basket and only went for one striker? If Remy did,nt come then we should of had a back-up lined up! Why did,nt we?

This is,nt Pardew,s fault but the blame for that lies firmly with Ashley and Llambias !

Now the main aim this summer has to be the signing of at least one Striker and a strong Central Mid-fielder !

Looks like there is going to be a a manager merrygo round this summer
    New managers at
    Man Utd
    maybe Arsenal
    Man City
    Newcastle if we stay up
which will mean a player merry go round too

    Going to be fun!!!

If we change which I have a hunch we will

Like to see Benitez or a long shot Temuri Ketsbaia

    Just a small point.

Why do people say give pardew next year to show he has learned.

Why after half a season of rubbish could he have not shown he has learned and at least try to correct the problem during the season.

With the injuries and poor form of some he must have seen it was working when we went on that long run without a win but we lined up in exactly the same system every week, he never even tried to change it round.

That’s his biggest failure…not being able to adapt from a system that, whilst worked last year, didn’t work this. He should have mixed it up…it’s the very same reason Martin oneil lost his job at Sunderland.

im not sure why ashley has to say sorry, as i remember, a huge number of fans including you ed said give until the end of the season, which has been granted ,

you could see he wasnt right but chose to look at all other problems rather than focus on the main problem, the football we where watching,

maybe if you had of been more vocal in trying to get him out of dodge , then maybe you could ask for one from him, it took all the way to the sunderland / liverpool games for ppl to wake up
