Coloccini Is King – Newcastle Must Keep Him

The return of Fabricio Coloccini to the back four of Newcastle last week at West Ham, has probably saved Newcastle a relegation this season, and he has been absolutely massive for Newcastle in these last two games in which we have conceded just one goal – and that was from a penalty.

ben arfa's penalty

Ben Arfa smashes home his penalty in great style
It almost broke the net

And we’ve got 4 points in those last two games, after the disaster that was the 6-0 mauling by Liverpool, but captain Colo has obviously been a much greater impact at Newcastle, both on and off the field, than we had thought.

But the first thing Newcastle must do now is to try to persuade the mercurial Argentine international to stay for the final three years of his contract – we need him – and we need him badly.

And that has to be job one for Newcastle.

Fab Coloccini – Newcastle must keep him

But Newcastle are now safe in the Premier League, and we can even finish in a respectable position, if we can take something out of the game against Arsenal next Sunday afternoon.

And there are reports that Newcastle are in for Loic Remy – even though he turned us down in January – and it was noticeable today that after he scored the penalty on 11 minutes, he didn’t particularly celebrate too much.

Maybe he’s on his way to Tyneside?

Today’s game saw Newcastle play well in the first half and we came back well from being 1-0 down after 11 minutes, with goals from Ben Arfa – a terrific penalty – and a good opportunist goal from Yoan Gouffran right out of the blue.

It was some excellent skill from Gouffran and in the first half Ben Arfa also caused QPR all kinds of problems.

But there will be complaints about the second half today – when QPR dominated, but thankfully didn’t carve out many clear-cut chances, and we were able to hang on even when Rob Elliot was sent off after 81 minutes for handling outside the box.

But hey – this has been a disastrous Premier league season and what we needed was the win – and the ads did it.

That’s all that matter – we’re safe.

Tsunki, that’s the most sense anyone has said on here for days (mainly coz I agree with you)…. Spending 2-4 million a year out of your transfer budget on a top manager would be. Much wiser use of funds.

I think we’d all have preferred this was settled a few weeks back. Either way, it’s done. We’re safe and we can look forward to a better season in a few months time and have to enjoy a better season than this.

Our two goals came from a lucky pen and a poor back pass.

And once again Pardew sat back on a 1 goal lead and invited all the pressure.

We were lucky qpr are shit going foward otherwise it would of been a familiar loss

I still think if we can get a good price we should sell Colo.

He’s been good the last 2 games but has had a poor season and wanted to leave us in the shit in Jan.

Great player on his day but his days have been few and far between this season.

I will be happy if he stays but don’t think it’s imperative we keep him IF there is a player to replace him.

I honestly don’t care about the performance today as we got the points we needed and that’s all that matters.

Time to start putting things right so we don’t end up in the same position next season

Sorry hotdog… what is it u see in pardew that makes you excited even if we do scrape a win against an already relegated qpr???

Im happy we won yes because it means we are safe, but he has to go to avoid anymore dissapointment, simple as that.

Find a post from any point this entire season where I have done that. Please do – else don’t make things up?

You’re purely saying that because I recently pointed out how sad it was for you to be hurling abuse at randoms over the internet – a point which still stands. Very sad indeed.

Hot dog; we are where we are through other teams being shit. That’s nothing to celebrate. I would say we are 10 points short of where we should be.
Pardew is to blame. If stays he has to learn. It’s his arrogance that I cannot stand. Fair enough if you have a boat load of titles and cups a la Ferguson or Morinho.

Beattie – no mate, Colo’s experience alone has been missed, badly. I’d like him to stay long enough to coach the incoming back four to do their job properly. It won’t happen though, expect some waving and tears after the whistle next sunday.

hotdog – I have been a solid supporter of giving Pardew a full chance all season, but you have to accept the results. Just let it wash over you, it will all be over soon… 🙂

    Repost (due to Ed’s rapidity)

Today was not pretty but thank god we somehow managed it.

    Observations on the game:

    – Coloccini was immense.
    – Williamson has shown that a few (including me) are wrong about him, he put in a very good performance and kept bobby zamora under control in the air.
    – MYM is a very good player. Once he settles he will be Coloccini’s eventual replacement at centre back, he has composure skill and one thing that Colo doesn’t have – pace (don’t get me wrong he isn’t there yet but with prem experience he will get there).
    – For all the stick he has taken, Jonas has proved again that he is an absolute workhorse and gives everything. He is the only one in that team that would have chased that backpass down and on the day that is what has kept us up!

    FOR THE SUMMER:

    – Pards should be given until Xmas UNLESS a TOP manager can be found to replace him. I don’t want him replaced with an untested foreign manager who could take a long time to settle.
    – The french players need a break and a good summer off. Cabaye has been poor for most of the season and I think that is because of the EUROs and injuries that have led to tiredness. Same for Sissoko who started on fire and burnt out. Even Gouffran is starting to look tired.

    SUMMER TARGETS:

    – I don’t think that PEA is a realistic option – top teams in europe are sniffing around and we are still likely to finish 15th. I think he will probably go to Inter.
    – Because of the above I think pride should be swallowed and we should bag remy asap. He is quick, good in the air has great movement and can finish as well as being able to play from the left or right if needed.
    – Carroll – he should be brought home. Forget this he is only good with a long ball nonsense. I was at the West Ham game and he held the ball up brilliantly, had quick feet (and showed a few skills) and is frightening in the air (something we really lack).
    – Other than the two strikers above, we need a CB to replace Colo if he goes and I think we are ok.
    – Goes without saying that the above is subject to nobody else leaving.

This manager has finished up 10th, 5th, and (1 match to go, so too early to know the finish, but currently) 13th.
This ain’t great. It also isn’t sackable. Wake up.

Cockney – it’s not excitement but I’m not going to jump on a manager who got us to 5th last year, has made some good signings and generally talks well to us fans. I’ve heard so much tripe from sourness daglish and seen so many managers come in that plainly have not worked. I’m 50-50 with pardew to be honest. I think he needs to bring in a good coach alongside him if he stays. Just enjoy the win for today at least.

    @ 9

    I’d say about 3-5 million.

A lot of Italian clubs and major Argentinian clubs pay that.

Regardless of age he is an Argentinian international CB and a lot worse and a lot older have gone for a lot more than 3-5 mill.
