Pardew Backtracks At Light Speed On Sunday’s Comments

11:22 pm, Monday, May 13th, 2013 by Dr. Ed Harrison · 34 Comments

Alan Pardew made what was we think was supposed to be a light-hearted comment about not caring if we lose 4-0 at Arsenal on Sunday in our last game of the season.

alan pardew in pain

Alan Pardew – he does care if we get hammered 4-0

But with the 4th place and the Champions League a close race between Arsenal and Tottenham – it’s hardly surprising that Tottenham feel a little queasy about Alan’s comments – and of course it’s also not helpful that we’ve been hammered 3-0 and 6-0 in our last two games and Arsenal are a better side than either Sunderland or Liverpool.

Alan Pardew has come out and tried to correct the situation:

“It is definitely not the case that I would be happy for us to lose 4-0 against Arsenal on Sunday. I simply want our players and fans to be able to enjoy the game without looking over their shoulders.”

“Even though we are now safe, we will be putting in the same effort that we would for any other Premier League game.” “Our last two results at St James’ Park – against Sunderland and Liverpool – have been nowhere near good enough.”

“Sunday gives us the chance to put that right.” “We want to end the season on a positive, to finish in as high a position as possible and to give the fans something to cheer about on the final day of what has been a frustrating season.”

“Arsenal will be doing everything they can to try and achieve a Champions League spot, and we won’t make it easy for them – make no mistake about that. This is a game everyone at this football club wants to win.”

To be fair to the Newcastle manager, he was elated after the win on Sunday at QPR, because it  meant that Newcastle are safe – and the relief was there for all to see, and he made a flippant statement.

We’re not sure if we had been  interviewed immediately after the game, in our high state of ecstasy  – what would have come out of our mouths – nothing too intelligent probably – so no change there. 😀

But of course the Premier League is now a big money enterprise – and the manager had to put things right in case the conspiracy theorists come out in force.

But now if we do get hammered, it will not look good,  and it will be embarrassing after Alan’s initial comments.

Maybe that’s an added incentive for our players  to do well – and a win would be fantastic after such a terrible Premier League season.

Two wins in a row – wow – when the last time we did that?

Comments welcome.

Ed, if you’re reading, please will you conduct a poll on whether he should be sacked or not, please? Will at least give us a gauge on the collective feeling towards him.

Pards seemed emotionally a little overwhelmed in that post match interview and understandably so. He has been under immense pressure and has endured a traumatic period of long, long hours in the workplace for an entire season.

He has been fraying at the edges for some time it seems to me but it’s over now and if he is to continue then he has the off season to compose himself and prepare the squad correctly for a new campaign in which he knows what to expect.

I’m comfortable for him to remain in charge for one more season and as a deeply committed fan wish him well.

another photo of the away shirt. if it is navy it will look really nice, if it’s black it’s stupid

  • 6 donkey // May 13, 2013 at 11:53 PM

[He has been under immense pressure and has endured a traumatic period] thats his job and most of the pressure hes under is his own fault with his lack of abilty and blaming everybody else apart from himself for the mess were in sack him now and let him ruin another club not ours

Sorry but with as much sympathy/empathy as I can muster he’s a total rabbit in the headlights. If this is how he deals with pressure do we really want our highly paid elite athletes led by him?
This is how be really is.
It’s just not good enough for nufc.
We need grace under pressure, not gobs..te under pressure.

the new tops look ugly i’d prefer the one’s that were displayed on this site a few weeks back it was the blue and the white tops

sorry but as long as Pardew is in charge regardless of the reinforcement of players next season we are in for another relegation battle and then when this happens the Pardew lovers on this site needs a good kick up the ass and never return on this site.

pardew and his backtracking !- i wish he’d backtrack back to london for good !

  • 13 nick_9 // May 14, 2013 at 12:02 AM

I’m not quite sure he is grasping how us fans feel right now. Firstly dismissing the criticism from the 3:0 derby defeat and 6:0 home defeat after hat and now by joking about losing 4:0 after such a torrid season and avoiding relegation by the skin of our teeth. We need a performance on sunday, one to give us hope for next season and not think oh great how long is this going to go on for

  • 14 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:03 AM

    stuart no9

lol he should off stayed down London when we beat QPR

  • 15 boater // May 14, 2013 at 12:04 AM

I have no problem with the comment whatsoever. It just reflected what all the fans were thinking, at last, a game we can enjoy without the unbearable pressure of recent weeks and months. He’s the boss however and the comments were probably unguarded – but that’s the worst you can say about them.

I’m happy to back him going into another season too. I think he’s made blunders when the chips were down and the pressure told in the end, but with a good summer in the transfer market, we can look forward to getting off to a good start and perhaps see his strengths as a cool, intelligent leader resurface. We’ll never know if we do wield the axe.

I would just like to encourage him to be more aggressive in search of wins in the league – especially away. Injuries aside, there were too many times we were caught out trying to hold on to a slender margin. We have to be more bold.

Ive heard alot about UK players been lined up for summer Caulker, Tomkins, Huddlestone, Redmund, Sinclair, Punchean, Rhodes, Carroll, not sure if any r true but id love these players maybe not tomkins but the rest would add to our squad has anyone else heard about this? also pardew will be gone after arsenal new manager already been contacted and arranged.

Ahhhhh…Thump, if your still up and about ,

    ..Pardew or Benitez ?

  • 18 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:05 AM

Pardew said a few months back that he had passion for Newcastle and the fans doesn’t look like it considering he’s still here

  • 19 boater // May 14, 2013 at 12:06 AM

Black and white – okay according to your logic, people who don’t support him now should also disappear forever if we aren’t relegated under him. I’ll happily make that deal with you.

  • 20 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:09 AM

mate i think it’s just rumors with players, but i heard that some one saw Rafa’s agent heading up towards Newcastle and this was said last Thursday, but it could be more rumors.

  • 21 ONLINE GUY // May 14, 2013 at 12:09 AM

To think Pardew even had to answer questions on this. ..I’m not keen on him but he should not be taken to task on the 4-0 comment, even a fool would know it was just a daft comment in a moment of elation at the end of a harrowing time for him ..and to question him on it is just muck raking trouble making shit ..and you all know it . Childish ..of course he did not mean it and it shows a lack of respect and stupidity to dwell on it .

    Baft Dastards

  • 22 HAZZY1 // May 14, 2013 at 12:12 AM

Black and white army I thought they would be but Caulker has not had many games and spurs r looking for a CB also Huddlestone wants out for the same reason as for Carroll I think thats a done deal id love the rest as they add much needed speed and goals also Rafa is the name I heard was already tied up I can only wait and pray.

  • 23 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:13 AM

mate if Pardew did somehow got us back up top i’ll be happy to come of this site and hold my hands up and say sorry to every single Pardew lover on here and iv’e always kept my word

  • 24 ONLINE GUY // May 14, 2013 at 12:15 AM

Pardew is a nervous guy when the chips are down and it transmits through to the players .

  • 25 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:15 AM

i think iv’e read somewhere that Huddlestone is valued at 5 million wicked bargain don’t know about Caulker but would love them 2 at Newcastle

  • 26 HAZZY1 // May 14, 2013 at 12:16 AM

Ive stuck by pardew all a long but this year has been shocking no excuses we had good young players full of confidence now they look lost we need to have a manager who can shake things up not make it worse im sorry for pards id love him to prove me wrong but I just don’t see it far to many mistakes and he has put his hand up and admitted it was his fault.

  • 27 HAZZY1 // May 14, 2013 at 12:19 AM

Black and white army I only hear what people r saying but it would make sense to buy UK who r young and can progress I have a soft spot for caulker I like him when he was on loan at swansea I think it was then nothing just a game here and there he scores goals from corners free kicks and is quick and good at tackling I hope we snap him up before someone else.

  • 28 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:20 AM

very true mate, i bet if Rafa came to us he could turn young Ferguson into bale in half a season

  • 29 Black and White with an army lol // May 14, 2013 at 12:22 AM

what i like most about Caulker is that he can play RB as well
he could easily put Debuchy under pressure for a RB role and also put Taylor under pressure for CB

  • 30 Sazzer // May 14, 2013 at 12:38 AM

If those are lined up and new manager is coming on. I would assume he’s british or Pardew still in charge. With two Tottenham players it smells like The Red Hairy one.

Could be that want to upgrade our homegrown squad.
Puncheon would be free? Jonas (Hope)
    Caulker 10ish m £ ? Colo/Taylor
    Redmond 3ish m £ … Ferguson/R.Taylor
    Huddlestone 6is m £ Perch
    Rhodes 7ish m £…Sammy
    Tomkins 5ish m £…Willo
    Carroll 12ish m £… Shola

  • 31 Dondatta13 // May 14, 2013 at 3:03 AM

What happens if we have another home stinker and we actually get beat 0-4 at home?

    Can you imagine the uproar?

It would sully this clubs reputation to new, never before seen lows.

He’s an idiot for even thinking those thoughts, I won’t mention what he is to actually utter them in a press interview.

I just hope and pray that we don’t actually get beat 4-0 for the good of this club, the fans and football in general. It’s not within the realms of possibility that we get beat by that margin.

  • 32 Yorkgeordie // May 14, 2013 at 7:29 AM

How could a statement, meant to be taken as a joke, include the words ‘ to be honest ‘ ?

  • 33 Yorkgeordie // May 14, 2013 at 7:37 AM

I doubt if Rafa’s agent would be heading to Newcastle to discuss the managers job, when Ashley is based in the South.

  • 34 Harley // May 14, 2013 at 8:05 AM

It seems pardew can’t open his mouth lately without a barrage of criticism.
He obviously didn’t mean literally lose 4-0 he was just emphasising how important the qpr result was, with a little joke.
Some of you need to take a chill pill!
