Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa captained Montpellier to their very first French championship last season, and since he’s arrived on Tyneside, he’s been immersed in Newcastle’s immense struggle to avoid relegation.
Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa – great start to Newcastle career
And in the last two games with both Davide Santon and Massadio Haidara being out injured, he’s played two excellent games at left back for the side, and he’s 3rd in our voting for Man of the Match for yesterday, behind only Coloccini and Ben Arfa.
Mapou has already demonstrated something we already knew before he arrived from Montpellier – that he can play well anywhere across the back four.
And he has already started in every position along the back four for Newcastle in his 18 appearances so far – and watch how good this guy will be next season for Newcastle, as he gets used to the Premier League.
Mapou is a leader on and off the field, and once he learns English and settles in on Tyneside, we think this lad has all the attributes to be a future Newcastle captain.
And if nothing else he has already shown he’s up for the fight as a Newcastle player, and has shown guts and passion for Newcastle when wearing the famous black and white striped shirt.
Well done Mapou and long may it continue.
For the record Mapou played 219 times with four goals at Montpellier – and he has 3 caps so far for France, and only turns 24 on Wednesday.
He is already looking a good buy for Newcastle.

Comment #82“I’d put me house on Cabaye not being here next year”
Thats a big stack.
MA likes Cabaye…
You might be homeless next season.

Comment #84I’ve never seen a premier league side so impotent when it comes to attacking play. Our players are so static and Cisse is completely isolated upfront. It’s not a on off game that we see this. We have been seeing this the entire season.
And what’s with Pardew complaining about injuries. All season along the match squad he’s been able to put out has been more than decent. Even Manchester United once had to put in a completely makeshift back four with Carrick in central defence and Valencia as full back earlier in the season.
I really want Pardew to go. With or without injuries our attacking play is almost non-existant for the 2 and a half season he’s here. We need a different manager with a different idea who can take us forward.

Comment #85Great result yesterday although an abysmal match. Guti, despite the blockdown, was very poor. I really cant see significant improvement under pardew next season. His philosophy of football is unlikely to change, and we had sufficient talent there all season , injuries or not, to do better than where we are. Bizarrely, we are only a few points behind Swansea so he might consider it a success!! Long and the short of it, we are in a mess and I think both the mgr and club purchasing philosophy ( who decides on players ?? ) needs to change .

Comment #86Ibiza, it has nothing to do with Britishness. Not even remotely.

Comment #87It doesn’t matter who we get in for next season Pardew will make sure they are either played out of position, or coached to be negative in every match. Flair players will be sickened until they leave as I expect either Cabaye or HBA to go in the summer.
What worries me is that even if Pardew has a full squad I doubt that he knows who to start with the exception of his favourites Jonas & Tiote.
He will continue to play people out of position, then make ridiculous substitutions. Excuse after exccuse will fall from his lips when even a blind man could see the problem was down to him.
I’m dreading a part season of getting a goal and trying to hang onto the lead, or conceding and then only wanting a draw. I say part season because if he stays, we will be in the bottom 6 from the start and even Ashley will tumble to where the problem lies.
